I was looking through most of the roms and almost all of them have ad free on so there are no ads. Is there any way to turn that off? I was wondering because when ad free is on Hulu plus will not work because it needs the advertisement to run. Any help would be great.
You can force stop it under manage applications. That always works for me.

You can also remove it with a file explorer under data-apps and reboot to remove it permanently.

the real answer to your question is, yes.
if you do not have AdFree for Android installed, install it from the market. there is a 'revert' option that will get rid of the adblocking.
force stopping the app or removing the app 'adfree' does NOT get rid of the ad blocking
Thanks. I was also looking at roms with sense 3.0 and Hulu plus doesn't work either. The only reason it doesn't work is because the advertisements won't load. Roms like rcmix and virtuous unity. I'm really confused why because they don't have ad free.

here's a rundown on how adfree works:
adfree will modify your /system/etc/hosts file with entries to prevent your phone from communicating to the ads. essentially creating an entry for every site with a loopback (ip address of 127.0.0.1)
some rom devs will insert the already modified hosts file into their build, and some will drop adfree program in. most roms will already have this modified hosts file, which prevents ads from popping up. also, as far as i know, hulu plus doesnt work on a device that is labeled as a desire hd. using a rom that is derived from a desire HD rom will basically fingerprint your device as a desire hd.
I tried to use hulu on ClearDroid with adfree disabled and it still would not play video. The app is just poorly written. ClearDroid is a lightly modified stock ROM. The service isn't that great either, it works on my 360 but I never found a reason to keep it.

So would there be any way to get rid of that file so that the rom does allow ads?

once again.
install ADFREE FOR ANDROID
it has a REVERT button
IT WILL GIVE YOU A STOCK HOSTS FILE
You could always just blank out your host file.
Mount system to r/w, goto system/etc then open host in text editor and delete everything except 127.0.0.0 localhost. Mount system to r/o and reboot.
Feel free to make a backup and this can all be done in root explorer.
THXX guy it works now
Ad blocking on your android will save you data, it is very helpful. just like on the pc.
so i will start a list of all the sites and include my own host file. what i do is use a program called hostsman and download the hosts from there. feel free to add your own. thanks guys.

For the last few days, I have been getting a notification about "new information" or some such. I hit it and it opens the browser and takes me to a spam site, saying I have won an air mac, iphone 4 or ipad 2 which is of course bull****.
I've got lookout (premium) on my phone, but it says no malware on the phone.
So if I could just figure out what program is posting the notice..I would have my culprit.
Rebooting phone doesn't help. Clearing cache, history, form data in browser doesn't help.
Tonight I cleared /cache and davlik-cache. Will have to wait to see if that helps.
The website the browser goes to is com-ws.us/test/.....
Whois shows that to be a new registration (Dec 13th) in the UK via godaddy

Nope, none of them caught it. Apparently these products only let you know which apps can do things, but not which did them.
Anyone else have any ideas?

Airpush should let you know what app is set to push notifications.
What is the actual notification you are getting and what icon does it have next to it in the status bar when u see it?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
If you have adaway then add "api.airpush.com" (without the quotes) to the list of sites to block and then redownload the hosts file. That will take care of airpush spam without having to download anything (who knows what data the airpush "opt out" app tries to collect).

Either a green plus sign in the notification bar or a red star with a red circle in it. The notification text is "You win! an iPad2 is yours!" Or similar.
Airpush detector showed no apps.
When you select the notification' it opens the browser and takes you to a ws-com.us website.

I didn't have adaway, but do now and added that host. Lets see what that does. If nothing else, I may put a network sniffer on here to see what's up.

Someone else had this problem and found it to be some live wallpapers that were installed. I doubt it would have been winamp.
FOUND IT. The free version of Bloat Freezer.
I installed a sniffer and it found this:
apikey=airpush&appId=23340&imei=b0ec891afc8c881867d891bc906321e3&token=ec178b3329bab921f52ec46160b1ff29&request_timestamp=Tue+Jan+03+12%3A01%3A09+MST+2012&packageName=com.bloatfreezer.free&version=10&carrier=Verizon+Wireless&networkOperator=Verizon+Wireless&phoneModel=ADR6400L&manufacturer=HTC&longitude=0&latitude=0&sdkversion=4.02&wifi=1&useragent=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28Linux%3B+U%3B+Android+2.3.4%3B+en-us%3B+ADR6400L+Build%2FGRJ22%29+AppleWebKit%2F533.1+%28KHTML%2C+like+Gecko%29+Version%2F4.0+Mobile+Safari%2F533.1&android_id=b7b691711e46ba6b&model=log&action=settexttracking&APIKEY=airpush&event=trayDelivered&campId=14855&creativeId=27768
Funny airpush detector didn't find it AND I got the adfree update to bloat freezer.
That's the end of that app!

And now I see bloat freezer has been pulled from the market.
Oh well, Titanium freezes stuff just fine.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
I have never used an app to freeze.other apps. If there is an app I don't want, like bloatware or stuff like Facebook, twitter, HTC mail etc., I just use root explorer. Navigate to system/apps and then rename the apk's extension to apkbak. Makes the system not recognize it as an app and therefore never runs, and if I need it again, just remove the bak and its good to go. Has worked for me on every Rom I have had since the OG droid

You try to install the original whatsapp first and sign up for an account and than go into settings and before you uninstall, wipe data first before uninstalling than install whatsapp plus and it should work fine.

How is this related to WhatsApp?
Sent from my OmniROM-powered LG Optimus 4X HD
Thread closed as posting WhatsApp+ is considered warez on XDA.
Thread re-opened. As you are all aware, WhatsApp+ is no longer allowed on xda-developers due to a C&D letter sent by the developer. Because of this, we had to temporarily close down theme threads related to the app until a consensus and a way forward was reached with the rest of the administrative group.
I am glad to inform you that such consensus was reached earlier today and it was decided that as long as the WA+ app is not being distributed, that there is no reason for theme threads to be shut down. With this in mind, I ask you that you do not share or discuss ways of getting WhatsApp+ in any, way, shape, or form within our forums. Failure to do this will result in thread closures and administrative actions against the one(s) doing it (this includes sharing via pm as well).
Thank you for your cooperation.

I guess, that's how it works. Same thing here, but i don't care.
Also, you can still see blue ticks from others even if you have your ticks turned off.
Anyone else is having some problems with v6.47?
The "writing" or "recording voice message" status should be fixed and hidden if you have online status hidden, but it doesn't work.

Any one know if any of the previous ad blockers will eventually work on 4.4. Just tried the latest version of adaway and I'm receiving an error. Just wondering if these apps will be supported any more. I read somewhere Google was cracking down on adblockers. But God knows I hate seeing ads in apps that don't offer a paid version that's ad free. Thanks.
Don't know if this is supposed to be in Q&A. Thought if there was an apk out there that worked it could be placed here.

Adblock plus. No problem.
Not working here
Adblock also not working on my Nexus 5. So far I've tried adaway and adfree and I can still see ads in chrome. Gained root using cf-auto-root.
Just succeeded in applying the host file.
Have tried before and failed, so I had given up.
But gave it a try more, and now it works.
Here's how you get it working:
1. Start the app and give root access, download and apply hosts file, this will fail.
2. Exit the app, force close it, erase data.
3. Open the app and run it again.
4. Profit.

I'm seeing ads on this page too so i guess Adblock Plus isn't working either. Perhaps the apps just need updates to work with Kitkat or maybe Google have found a way to stop the blockers from working somehow? I've only tried on Chrome so far as it seems to be the only Browser that's working properly on our phones.
Adaway works for me, sometimes doesn't enable hosts on the first try but just keep trying

For anyone seeing ads on Chrome, that's because you are using Google's Data Compression Proxy.
You can disable it by going to "Settings -> Bandwidth management -> Reduce data usage" and turning it off.
