Noob on Sensation Xe needs help to root - HTC Sensation

As I received my brand nu Xe yesterday, I'm now on rooting it to delete unwanted apps.
I'm comming from Leo with Nand roms, where flashing was easier as rooting Android devices to me
Tried different threads, found different unanswerd questions about rooting, Hroot, S-off and stuff but to be honest, I have no clue how to do it with the XE.
I had the MAGDLR on it so flashing was like playing with toys, but now,....can't go on.
The stock rom which is on board on my TMO_DE XE is okay for me, no nned to flash another rom, but all I wanna do is to get rid of all unwanted sys app I never us.
Can anyone give me a helping hand on this?
thx in advance
P

Look on YouTube, theirs loads of videos on how to get s-off and rooting. Being the sensation XE doesn't make it any different from the original sensation just XE processors clock limit is 1.5ghz so follow guides for either

Hi there,
I just went to revolution website and followed the instructions in this topic: -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
I had no issues (I didnt super-cid or whatever its called). May I also recommend you look at InsertCoin ROM V3.4.4, it is fast and causes no issues. if you want 2.3.4 Sensation XE ROM, Virtuous v2.2 is great.....I'm stuck deciding which of these two to use as my daily
Good luck

LoL,
I successfully S-Offed my Xe now and downloaded the rom manager.
so, do I still need to run busybox or something?

you don't need busy box. If you are already S off and have clock work installed. You are good to go. Get you a ROM, transfer to sd, enter recovery, and flash away.
HTC Sensation 4G

CMR says that its NOT rooted, but I did with that revolutionary tool and it also downloaded CMR, but I can't find it

You need to flash a recovery through fastboot, then flash superuser through recovery. (or just flash a new rom) to get root

Be careful though because some apps may rely on the apps your about to delete, to function so be careful dude

If you got the custom recovery, and you are rooted, then download an app (this one),that way you can lock those apps that you don't need, so you can save some RAM, and battery.

If you're worried you're doing it wrong you might be
check out the guide in my sig. Very simplified and noobproof.

Thank you guys,
fortunatly I decided to flash a custom rom Now its rooted and I can delete the unwanted apps Damned, Xe is fast as hell. Guessed, Leo was, but now it breaks records

Wrong forum. this is the XL forum. THe XE and XL are completely different phones.
The guide for the Sensation and XE are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Best of luck.

that method not working

unfortunately, it is probably best if you ask the question in that forum though, as your question is not about sensation XL (which this forum is for) and the forum that was linked above is for SENSATION and SENSATION XE.

unfortunately in my case HTC Super tool v3 and revolutionary are not working. I am not able to S-off my HTC Sensatio XE (with beats audio) 2.3.4. I dont know what is wrong.
Is it possible that since i have downloaded the update HTC Super tool v3 is not working? also revolutionary is giving error and failed to root. Can you please help

Few questions about rooting

Hi...
I want to delete some apps like stocks...and i know i need to be rooted for it...
But when i trien temp-root with free3vo...deleted some apps and they were never deleted...
I dont want to perma root cz i think then i wont be able to get updates from htc...
I dont want anything more then rooting cz i love sense and thats why i actually bought sensation...
But now my phone is getting slower and i think deleting stock apps will solve it...
Is there anything just like one click root or i have to wait for unlock bootloader...
And i dont even have drivers for my sensation on my pc...so if someone can provide it...ill so thankful...its not downloading from htc site.
Thanks..
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
Temp root with fr3vo will not let you permanently delete apps. They will just return upon reboot because they weren't really deleted in the first place. Trust me when I say that htc is not rushing to get updates out to us. Or any of their phones for that matter. People are on their Facebook page everyday pleading for updates. Devs are way more eager so your best bet would be to flash a custom rom because then you are guaranteed an update to the newest android. You can't root without unlocking your bootloader. You can do this at revolutionary.io. The instructions are at the top of the development thread. Along with the drivers. Just because you root doesn't mean that you can't have sense. We actually don't have a real "no-sense" aosp rom yet. Go ahead. Free your phone from htc's grip. Then you can delete at your heart's will.
Okk...so you mean i would have to s-off i think...and which is the best custom rom according to you with sense...and can i revert back to stock rom if i want??
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
Yes s-off is the best option. The best you can do is do some research. Read the 1st post of the rom's thread and find out which suits you best.
Thanks...
But will i be able to revert back to original??

Once you have cwm you can backup your original rom. If for some reason you want back to original rom, you can restore it with cwm.
Thanks...but as i am a nood...
I tried s-off with revolutionary but it showed me sofe error communication with phone is intrrepted unepectdly try again later...so i couldnt s-off n cant even find some help on it..
So i thought the other way...first flashing the 1.45 on my phone then getting bootloader unlocked with the htcdev...
So guys can you plz guide me to most easiest and simplest guide to flash it...

New to Android here. Does CWM backup the original ROM in it's "pure" state, i.e. factory fresh? Or does it backup the ROM based on your phone's current state.
I'm coming from an iPhone, where the iOS files were easily accessible and I never made back-ups. I have so many questions about Android modding. This forum is filled with information, but has my head spinning.

I would surmise that its a backup of the phones current state. I was still s-offed after I restored my phone to my stock backup after a botched adb push.
Take it a day at a time, took me about a week to get up to speed on this thing. Learning how to use adb and knowing a few basic commands will make your life easier.

It is indeed a backup of the current state. You will be s-off as long as you don't take an update or change your bootloader. Your bootloader is not included in a backup as it is not necessary.

ROOT Sensation

Alright I am a noob, I have legit looked everywhere but all I have been able to do is find noobproof rooting methods and those won't work for me!! I had an LG optimus one and I rooted it simply using the app Gingerbreak, flashed a whatchamacallit recovery thingy......and installed cyanogenmod. I forget exactly what I did. See I am really new to all this. Basically can someone tell me what is so different between rooting an optimus one and a sensation? and can someone direct me to a post that DOES have a simple way to root, or at least take the time to write one here? I would appreciate it EXTREMELY MUCH.
Thanks!

I was like you just yesterday but lost my virginity last night ( as far as rooting goes). It's super easy to do. Check on YouTube there are vids that show you step by step how to do it. I didn't want to root my sensation before cause I didn't know anything about it. But last night I just did it and my current rom ( android revolution HD 3.6.1) is beyond amazing. People who don't root have NO idea what they're missing. It's a must. Anyway you have to use the revolutionary method to get S-off. Getting S-off doesn't mean you're rooted it "just" mean you have an unlocked boot loader and you can achieve root. But yeah check the vids on YouTube just type how to s-off and root sensation and follow the exact same step. When you're all done, check on YouTube again how to flash a rom, you will b a pro in no time!
Thanks!! yeah I did root my optimus one like I said and flashed cyanogenmod but my phone stopped receiving texts as soon as I did...I thought it was the fact that I rooted it, but in fact it was cuz I didn't pay my phone bill for two months so i was afraid of rooting after that for fear that it might happen again. But yes, so,
where does busybox and superuser fit into all of this?? I recall when i rooted my optimus one superuser appeared on my phone...and I had to download busybox separately. Is busybox necessary for flashing certain roms??

You can download both from Android Apps. Sometimes when trying to download an app (eg.Titanium Backup) it will ask if you want to load busybox or superuser. It is not very difficult.

I can't get over how simple rooting and flashing a custom ROM really is.
Took all of twenty minutes including downloading all the files, I'm now S-OFFed and running ARHD 3.6.1 with the recommended radio and my phone is absolutely flying - Quadrant benches of 2800+.
And as above, if I ever need to go back to stock I can either restore the backup I made when flashing the ROM, or flash a stock RUU and job done.

Right, the issue is covering ALL your traces for warranty purposes, ie if something goes wrong physically (internally) with the phone.

[Q] Root with S-OFF

Hello everyone,
This is my first post and sorry if this question was already answered, but I couldn't find the answer to my particular question when I searched for it. I just recently got my Sensation for T-Mobile a couple weeks ago and rooted it but do not have the S-OFF because of the OTA update to 2.3.4 so I used the HTC unlock method. Is there any way I can get the s-off because I am finding it difficult to flash a lot of ROMs I want to try since a lot of them either never load or they just go into an infinite boot loop? Thanks for all your help and advice and I'm hoping I can gain more knowledge thru you guys since this was a big leap for me from a Blackberry 9700.
I recently rooted my HTC Sensation and got the s off following the directions provided here on xda. Then installed Revolution HD. No issues with that either. I just followed the directions there also. Did it not work for u?
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA App
No, it didn't work for me. My friend told me that the alpharev method used here on the forums wouldn't work because I downloaded the OTA update to 2.3.4 when I first received it out of the box. He told me that only the htc unlock method would work to root my phone but I wouldn't have S-off. My phone is currently rooted right now with no s-off so certain ROMs won't flash or they will butt I'll hey errors in them.
I find that strange. I'm no expert but my Sensation was running stock Android 2.3.4 before I rooted and it reads that s is off. I went to revolutionary.io/ download for Windows filled in the info for the beta key save the zip file and and launch it then enter the beta key. Then just follow the prompts from there. Did u do that?
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA App
Yup, I did exactly that a number of times but it didn't work. That's weird. Maybe someone else on here can help me get full s-off on my sensation. What's your service provider ? Cuz mine is T-Mobile and it came stock 2.3.3 but I did the OTA update and was able to root it but get no s-off
hi,
just to share my experience ... On Asian Starhub
i have updated to 2.3.4 via OTA before i root and s-off, and eventually supercid.
Followed the guide step by step.
The rooting , s-off and supercid process is smooth as butter ( as some dev quoted ).
Flashed Bulletproof 1.4 and now InsertCoin 3.3.0.
Perhaps u can provide more phone details like your current Hboot version and which part of the process you are stuck so that some experienced member can help u out easier.

Sorry if I'm asking the obvious or if this has already been covered, but did you first go to the HTC dev. site and follow their specific instructions for unlocking the bootloader? If not, do that first, then use Revolutionary to root/s-off, wipe your phone to factory (I always wipe dalvik cache and cache partition, too), then flash whatever ROM and kernel you want.
Let me know if that helps any.

I have a custom ROM flashed on it currently, I ran the revolutionary app and it suddenly closed on me and i also got an unforseen FC on the home screen of the phone. I flashed back to my nandroid backup of my stock rooted ROM and still the same thing. Suggestions? I saw on another post I should try doing this on a different computer. I tried different methods of connecting the phone via usb with mounting it as a drive, charge only, htc sync but to no avail. I did have htc sync running and it did sync up properly.
I tot we should uninstall HTC sync .... Only leave the HTC drivers alone ....

When u install , then uninstall HTC sync . The HTC sync drivers will be removed but HTC drivers remains . That's the drivers we want to keep. Alternatively , u can just install the HTC drivers. How to Avoid a Bricked htc sensation unit.

Hi guys!
I bought my unit last december2011 and had it rooted and flashed the bulletproof rom.
I'm thinking of upgrading the software by using the official htc ics upgrade.
My questions are :
1. Is it possible to install the update even with the rom i'm using, bulletproof.
2. If i did download and install, is there a possibility that may device will be bricked?
3. If my unit got bricked, will the shop where i bought my unit knew that i had it rooted if i am to claim that it had been bricked because of the ics update that i installed, to get it replaced?
Hope you could help me on this.

1. You could try, just by searching for a update in settings, about phone, system update.
2. THe device wouldn't brick, but assuming you have s-off it would probably wipe that. And at the moment you can't s-off hboot 1.27.0000 which the ICS firmware updates it to. So your limited to the amount of custom roms you can install. But if your just looking for stock ics you'll be fine
3. Depends on the shop.
Hope I helped!

Ok,

So I think you should look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21711154#post21711154 follow the instructions, and you will have a Sensation XE with ICS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849 is probably the best rom to use.

Those details won't suffice to determine what you need for flashing ARHD ...
As you are running custom Rom I can say that you are soff...but to be sure can you post a screen shot of your bootloader that would be pretty helpful.
Also post your cid ...this you can get it by fastboot command
"fastboot getvar cid"
(Assuming you have fastboot/adb setup)
Also there is the best noob proof guide for flashing ARHD...chk that then you can flash any custom Rom easily

"fastboot getvar cid"
(Assuming you have fastboot/adb setup)
Also there is the best noob proof guide for flashing ARHD...chk that then you can flash any custom Rom easily
Here is the link to guide

Currently doing backup through 4ext. wish me luck brother. i'll update you later.
do i have to make a titanium backup of all user and system apps or just the user apps?
If there are some settings in system apps u want yo backup like mail , take system as well, if u only need savegames of games, take user apps

If there's no option in titanium backup(don't use it atm) , its okay to delete it only on sd card

You can't install official ota ics update with custom Rom. It must be stock Rom with stock recovery.
Soff will stay same after update so not important you don't need to s-on to get ics.

I have yet to flash the ARHD zip file. after i updated the firmware, i tried to open the phone to delete the file but the device did not go through the normal booting process, instead it just keep rebooting after the logo flashes. any ideas why?
These are bootloops.. Which file did you want to remove ? Did you really installed the 3.32 firmware before flashing the rom?

Sensation does not update from GB with OTA

Hi !
Just bought this used Sensation XE with Gingerbread 2.3.4 and when I downloaded update to 4.0 from Software Update I am unable to install cause during installation the phone switches off and reboots to a screen with a Triangle and an Exclamation sign and a small cartoon android next to it.
After waiting for nearly 10 minutes I took out the battery and booted again and now it is running GB once again normally.
I am afraid I might damage my phone if I do again and so may have to go to HTC service center in Bangkok once again. ( I live in Bangkok )
But any advices please ? ( I downloaded once again and checked to see if I had downloaded the entire file the first time but it is the same )
Afraid I am a noob with HTC. I had a Samsung Galaxy S and I had rooted it and must have installed more then 10 ICS on it but with HTC it is not the same and more complicated though I LOVe the Sense compared to Touchwiz now !
Please help !
Thanks !
Is the phone rooted now?
It seems you got rooted rom.. Normally for the ota update to happen three conditions has to be met..
1.cid match (which is matching in your case bother wise you won't even get the update)
2.stock recovery
3.non rooted stock rom
Check whether these conditions are being met or not..

Hi,
Yep as ganeshp has said, check your phone maybe it's rooted. If no and you still have some dificulties, try to install RUU from here:
filefactory[dot]com/f/c87a2330449af512
Yes...I just discovered its rooted. ( being used had no idea )
Since It's not easy like Samsung to unroot, pls advice me what I should do ?
1. Can u advice me to unroot and HOW ? ( the instructions on web is very confusing )
2. Since It's rooted can I install custom Rom but which case do I loose the radio ?
3. To install official ics it says open Bootloader. How do I find if my Bootloader is open or not ?
4. On the white screen it says Locked on top. Does it pertains to S Off ? Do I need to open that too ? And how ?
My sincere aplogies for so many questions but I know almost nothing about HTC.
My thanks !

1.download supersu app ..there inside settings ..there is option to do permanent unroot
2.to decide you can install custom root or not ..you need to post the complete details of the bootloader ..(bootloader is the place where you went in point #4)
3.you did opened the bootloader in point #4
4.ignore the locked part ..post the next line something like "PYRAMID PVT SOFF/SON RL " (if SOFF lucky ..you are eligible to install custom roms ) and probably you are SOFF as you are rooted (unless you are SOFF or have "UNLOCKED" bootloader you cant have root ..but you have LOCKED and root ..so you are most probably soff)
confirm these ..and ill give you the proper guide based on the answers
Hi my friend,
Today unrooted my phone and installed gb stock ROM 2.3.4 in order to have company update ( or i update via ota ) but...made a stupid mistake.
I have copied and pasted my inquiry in a new thread . It's as follows :
I unrooted the sensation xe today. No experience with HTC whatsoever. By mistake installed RUU Gingerbread 2.3.4... but of Sensation instead of Sensation xe.
Now have all specs showing of Sensation like 1.2 GHZ and no Beats Audio, etc.
My question is this :
I have downloaded now ICS update RUU file ( the correct one for sensation xe ) but it says that my phone Must Be a Sensation XE and nothing else.
But after this installation of Sensation RUU , isn't my phone just Sensation now or I still can update with power off into bootloader from this ICS RUU since in reality it is a Sensation xe ?
Or do I need to install sensation xe gb first to upgrade ?
Please advice. I don't want to plug in my usb and install wrongly.
Any way out please ?
Thanks in advance.

first flash the gb sensation xe ruu ..then only on the top of that apply the sensation xe ICS OTA
but first if you got OTA (over the air update) not RUU ..then do as above
if you got ICS sensation xe RUU ..then you can ignore the current condition of the phone and can happly apply ICS xe RUU (small hint XE RUU will have _LE_ in their name)
but seeing that you were able to apply sensation RUU on sensation XE i think you are SOFF ..which makes solving problems easy
Thanks ! But during unroot , s-off is on so cannot update from RUU . The software shows a phone on left side but now it only shows an outline of phone. And does not update.
So now I have sensation xe running gb 2.3.4 with regular sensation software instead.
It's unrooted and bootloader locked and s-off on.
Pls help !
Thanks !

I didnt get you
now you have sensation xe ..and are you getting update on it ?
if so are you able to download it ?
can you post your cid and the ruu name you used for your sensation xe ?
I am unable to provide u with RUU details cause in the office now but its like this :
In the beginning I had bought this second hand sensation xe but rooted and with GB 2.3.4 which I wanted to update to 4.0
Company refused cause it was rooted which i did not realize at that time.
So, searched the net and found how to unroot which made me think that after this I will give it to company HTC to update official version.
Little did I think that on unroot my phone will then loose Beats Audio and in all respects become the first Sensation !
So now It's unrooted, s-on , locked like out of the box except with wrong software ! And I don't know if anything can be done about it !
Yes, after unroot i had downloaded Software Update from Settings and it showed me the downloaded file in a long list which then I Extracted by pressing the Menu key.
After extraction I installed by touching the file and the phone went into long reboot and back....to the same.
Hope this helps though I will send u RUU description today evening ( I am in Thailand )
Kind regards.

i dont believe it has made the phone s-on. not possible by simply fashing a ruu. please fully turn off the phone, hold down volume down + power. when bootloader boots copy everything onto a post here please.
yes post the bootloader deails as heavy_metal_man said .. but after power off remove battery ,reinsert it then do the rest as he said
Sorry. I did not explain properly.
After flashing RUU I had to go into Command prompt and type 3 commands. Can't remember now. Too complicated. This was to restore my s on from off.
Thanks !

That was the BIG mistake you did ..turning SON after SOFF (fastboot oem writesecureflag 3 command right ?) is not required at all ..unless you want to return the phone for warranty purposes..as SOFF wont hurt you anytime ..when you stay on stock (also fyi the unroot process doesnt include turning SON)
now post the complete output of this following command excluding IMEI..with phone connected from fastboot to pc (the same way you did SON using the three commands )
fastboot getvar all
Thanks
Though I do not understand this completely i will go home tonight and do my best to comply.
Thanks again.

yes you can absolutely but dont update to ICS via RUU or OTA if you want to root and install custom roms the easy way
Please, pls, can u in that case provide me links to root and recommend a stable custom ROM ?
How to instructions would be great.
I am a noob of the highest caliber when it comes to HTC.
Tried to find links to root for my phone but afraid I might mess up again.
I trust your judgement and u have been so quick on yr replies that It's so impressive and I thank u for your kind help !
Best regards
