[Q] Kyrillos mod instructions are not clearly - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Im about to install the kyrillos rom on my galaxy 3 i5800.
Problem: There isn't out a good HowTo from the guys who actually know as it works.
I loaded this 9.2 zip
(v9.2 update.zip => Hotfile [19/11/11]).
Click to collapse
It's just some folders representing an OS. I need a tar. Should i make one of it and thats all? Or do i need to download the 2 part thing 9.0 first? (
Kyrillos' rom v9.0 (Based on JPU) [06/11/11]
v9.0 OC => Part1 / Part2).
Click to collapse
The information there is very vague, sorry :/
Okay, i need a "ops" file for odin. Okay!
Do i need any special there? I cant see a link where to download the right one.
For now, i've just found one on a german developer board
See point 2.) there.
Is this okay? If not, where can i get the right one?
And as mentioned before, where do i get the latest working, kyrillos *.tar file, which i can set in Odin?
I've downloaded one *.tar file yet, it's the kernel v2.2.2 i guess. What's about it? What do i need to do with it? Should I set this tar in Odin? But if yes, what's with the rest (9.2 things)
( NOTE: Recommended Kernel: v2.2.2 => Download it from here (If you dont use bln i recommend hillbeast's test kernel 073 OC)
NOTE2: To flash an update, you dont have to install all the previously updates. The minimum requirement is v9.0.)

im kinda confused right now, i hope you can bring some light in it!

Download 9.0 tar files(both parts). When you extract part 1 it will ask you for part 2(browse for it and extract) and then you will get tar file and when you are in Odin select one package and flash .tar file
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App

You can find the Odin and "OPS" file in folder Extras ... it can be found when u download Kyrilos 9.0, and extract it there is an Folder named "Extra"
when u put newest kyrilos update u dont need to upgrade Kernel version
---------- Post added at 02:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:45 PM ----------
If u cant find the "Extra" folder write here I'll add it as attachment

Rom file is not called kyrillos**.tar. file that you need to flash is called "Flash_this_as_one-package.tar"
after you flash kyrillos 9.0, which you will get from those 2 parts, then you ll have to update to 9.3 (this is not mandatory, you can leave it to 9.0). updating is easier than installing rom itself. all you have to do is to boot into recovery go to install zip from sd card, and chose update file that you previously copied to sd card.

hi
ur wrong here
all u need to do is put both the downloaded file in one folder extract any one of them and it will extract the whole thing to one file which u can flash via odin
and for how to use odin their are enough tutes given start by looking in the rollup thread just read it carefully and its easy to use
good luck

On the first page there is instructions how to, but you've forgot to mention the main point USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

Hi guys,
You really helped me alot! I love you!
I successfully set up 9.0, then 9.2 and now, finally - 9.3! Working awesome'ly!
The only thing i dont like is if you tap an icon a cruel orange border occurs!
Just darken the icon slightly would be okay! Tested with all launcher apps

>>>>> UPDATE <<<<<
OK, folks!
For some unknown reasons a lot of users asking for a REAL ORIGINAL ROOTED ROM. This is a PD98IMG.ZIP file which is flashable via the boot loader.
Now I'll present you this ROM at this download:
http://www.multiupload.com/AURLLESU5V
- EVERYTHING is still ORIGINAL
- NOTHING has changed or added or modified at this ROM
- Bussybox is installed
- Toolbox is installed
- Superuser 3.07 is installed
The ONLY exception is the RECOVERY partition. I still like to use the 4ext to do some backups and other things. That's the reason why I keep this partition within the ROM.
Finaly here are common questions and answers about this ROM:
Q: How to update?
A: Just download the PD98IMG.zip and store it on your SDCARD. Unplug the batterie, plug it back and press the VOL-DOWN key for enter the bootloader. That's it.
Q: Does it work on every device?
A: Don't know. But it's working on every device with S-OFF
Q: This ROM is a peace of crap! Why the hell the "lib" folder is not within the "system" partition?
A: This question you should ask HTC. If you need the "lib" folder within the "system" partition please use an other image than this because this is ORIGINAL!
Q: Where I can add some support question about this ROM?
A: Use the trash bin because I will not give any support or add features or anything else to this ROM.
Q: Do you plan to do other things with this ROM?
A: NO!!!!!!!
Q: I love this ROM. But I want to do some changes and release this to the community. Is this O.K.?
A: From my point of view this ROM is Public Domain. Don't ask. Enjoy it and do it!
Regards!

multiupload is much better so its a plus =D
how can i root it, i unintentionally install it on my phone and i cant get rid of
U need to install the recovery.img from mike1986 ROM 6.1x
How to do?
Make a PD98IMG.ZIP file which contains the android file and recovery.img
Flash this and then install the superuser 3.07
But fyi - the lib folder is outside the system.img
So if you want to install additional things to this ROM it might be that this will not work.

the two that dont get deodexed is maps and google voice if im not mistaken. just replace them with the apk's from market. This happens for most all htc ruu's.
The important files still get deodexed though, and thats what matters.

u are spot on abt the 2 files that fail to de-odex.
need a clarify abt "just replace them with the apk's from market".... u mean, while de-odex, just remove the file and after flashing the rom, then install the 2 files from market...
or i need still to replace the file before zipping them back into roms?
anyway, thanks for sharing the knowledge.

Use whatever Rom you have on your device now, use a file explorer to get into /data/app and copy the Apk's specific to maps (com.google.maps) and voice (com.google.[somethingorother].voice) and copy em to your sd. Then plug in to pc, choose storage mode, and move em to your pc. Or if you're familiar with adb commands, you can go that route, but you need to know the exact filename of the Apk.

second method: delete both the map.odex & map.apk, then replaced with a map.apk - rom hangs on boot up
third method: delete map.odex & map.apk and continue to cook - rom hangs on boot up

[GUIDE] How to DEODEX stock ODEXED ROM using dsixda's kitchen

STEPS:
(1) Download & setup kitchen LINK.
(2) Grab a ".tar" file of stock ODEXED ROM, put it under
Code:
C:\cygwin\home\VAIO\kitchen\original_update\
(change the path according to your installation directory)
(3) Start "Cygwin" from desktop (if you are running kitchen under Windows).
(4) Type the following commands (Press Enter after each line of command)
Code:
cd kitchen
Code:
./menu
After pressing ENTER the following screen appears:
Enter Option : 1
(5)
Enter the options as shown above.
(6) following screen appears:
Follow the instructions carefully to extract files from .img file
(7)
After the files are extracted successfully, Enter the options as above.
Its upto you whether you want to extract cache.img or not, I prefer NO.
(8) your ROM's INFO:
Press Enter to continue:
(9)
Select option 0 (Advanced Options)
(10)
Enter option 11
(11)
Deodex both folders (b)
Kitchen will start deodexing both folders.
However, some apks failed to deodex, see the screenshot below:
(you can close the kitchen now if you do not want to add more MODs)
To resolve this, go to
Code:
C:\cygwin\home\VAIO\kitchen\WORKING_071212_094136\system\app\
and delete the odex apks (you can recognize them by their respective .odex files present in the same folder)
Make sure to delete both apk as well as its respective .odex file.
Now, download the attached deodexed apks & copy to the above folder.
THATS IT ! you have successfully deodexed both /system/app as well as /system/framework/.
Final step is to flash/copy/push these folders to your device.
I have attached "deodex.zip" file.
It is a CWM flashable zip.
just open it with 7zip (do not extract), copy all the /system/app/ files to "app" folder in the zip
similarly, copy all /system/framework/ files to "framework" folder in the zip.
DO A NAND BACKUP!!!!
Flash the zip via CWM.
If you have any queries/problems/errors, post here.
Thanks!
Thank you very much bro !

Modem.bin is pretty much self-explanatory. It is a "modem," its responsible for data connection and things of that sort. It is related to the radio of your phone.
What is a Radio ROM?
* The Radio ROM is the software part of your device that is powering on/off and controlling your radio interfaces. This includes Bluetooth, 2G/3G Phone, WiFi, GPS..... And it also includes the OEMSBL (Radio BootLoader) and other device specific firmwares needed for using your radio interfaces and for interfacing them with the OS (Windows Mobile/Android).
So I guess it is an important file.

the file is very much important but there is no need to include in custom ROM zip.
it automatically gets installed when we flash tar file via odin.
so there is no point in flashing it again.
therefore i advised to remove this from zip.

Speaking about deodexing, Is it possible to deodex a single file for modding purposes keeping other files odexed? Will this work?
For eg: Can I only deodex SystemUI.apk for adding the 14 toggles mod or do I need to deodex the entire ROM for it to work?
EDIT: In dsixda's kitchen I saw an option to deodex a single file. So that probably answers the 'is it possible' part.
But will it work?

[TUT] How to extract .ftf file to make custom rom - and few tips [2012 Xperia]

[TUT] How to extract .ftf file to make custom rom - Flashable ZIP [2012 Xperia]
This tutorial is for developers who want to make their own custom rom based on official firmware. OK, let's start.
Explanations:
Inside every flashable zip file there are two folders - system and META-INF:
1) system folder - That is actually your ROM and all it's content (If you ROOT your device you gain access to this folder in your device).
2) META-INF folder - That folder gives instructions to your device (ClockWorkMod) how to flash ROM, sets permissions...
This is method to get Stock/Official system folder that you need to edit to make custom ROM.
You will need to find/make yourself contents of META-INF folder - You may took it from another ROM and (maybe) edit.
NOTE: If you use this method your ROM will work for both Locked/Unlocked bootloaders, and it will require that you have firmware your ROM is based on already installed before flashing.
Click to collapse
How to get contents of stock/official system folder - Extract .ftf file:
1. Download .ftf file for your device.
2. Extract .ftf file using 7Zip.
3. You will get system.sin and other files. You only need system.sin file so delete others.
4. Open flashtool and inside flashtool open SIN Editor to dump data from system.sin - you will get an ext4 file.
5. Open ext2Read and extract ext4 file.
6. Done.
Click to collapse
How to put CWM into your ROM:
OK, Now you ask - Why do I have to put CWM into ROM? Let's explain:
CWM is custom recovery that you use to flash zip files to your device. There are two types of CWM:
1. For both Locked and Unlocked bootloaders - Recovery is in the system folder of the ROM.
2. Only for Unlocked bootloaders - Recovery is somewhhere else (You don't need that).
Because your ROM is based on official firmware it will be for both Locked/Unlocked bootloaders.
Therefore, you will flash your ROM in CWM for both Locked/Unlocked bootloaders.
And if you flash you will replace system folder of previous ROM. Because CWM was in that folder of previous ROM - You will lose CWM.
That is why you need to put CWM.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Find CWM for both bootloaders for your device.
1. Copy sh file inside files folder to system/xbin.
2. Copy other files inside files folder to system/bin.
3. Go to META-INF/com/google/android/ and you will find updater-script.
4. Add the following lines to it
Code:
set_perm(0, 0, 0755, "/system/bin/recovery.tar");
set_perm(0, 0, 0755, "/system/bin/battery_charging");
set_perm(0, 0, 0755, "/system/bin/battery_charging_help");
set_perm(0, 0, 0755, "/system/xbin/sh");
Thanks srl3gx for tutorial.

How to add ROOT into your ROM:
Want your custom rom to be rooted? Here is how:
1. First you need to choose from two great root management apps: Superuser (choose ARM one) and SuperSU(I prefer SuperSU).
2. Download zip file.
3. Go to "system" folder in downloaded zip and copy files within their folders to its place in your rom (same directory - if was "app" then copy in "app".
4. Edit updater-script to set correct permissions - Find that on someone elses rom, it should look just like for CWM, but for those files.
5. Done.
Click to collapse
Useful notes:
1. Don't edit any file in zip with Windows Notepad or else you will get an error in CWM - you need Notepad++.
2. When you put system and META-INF folders into zip set compression to - Store.

[TUT] How to extract .ftf file to make custom rom - flashable ZIP [2012 Xperia]
This tutorial is for developers who want to make their own custom rom based on official firmware. Note that as of 2012 our Xperias use ext4 file system so other tutorials won't work.
Inside every flashable zip file there are two folders - system and META-INF...System folder is ROM content...and META-INF gives instructions to CWM how to flash ROM Content....This is method to get contents of SYSTEM folder, you must find META-INF yourself....
1. Download .ftf file for your device.
2. Extract .ftf file using 7Zip.
3. You will get system.sin and other files..You only need system.sin file so delete others...
4. Open flashtool and inside flashtool open SIN Editor to dump data from system.sin - you will get an ext4 file.
5. Open ext2Read and extract ext4 file...
6. Done...you will get contents of system folder that you need to modify...
7. IMPORTANT - When you later make zip choose compression - Store
PS: Don't edit files with Windows Notepad or else you will get an error in CWM - you need Notepad++...
Maybe later I will make Screenshots

I already knew this method. However I congratulate you for your initiative. :highfive:
Well I learned something else. Before it only used to extract some files. I did not know we could do this way the custom roms.
I'll try to make a custom rom.
However verified that the file size of system.ext4 is 665,654 KB. Once extracted using ext2read, is only 467 MB.
It is normal for this situation? Instead of decreasing, should not increase after extracted?
Kind regards,

However verified that the file size of system.ext4 is 665,654 KB. Once extracted using ext2read, is only 467 MB.
It is normal for this situation? Instead of decreasing, should not increase after extracted?
Kind regards,
Jorge Moreira

That was my problem too I ended up with an ext2read error and less size
But ext4 is Linux system partition and not zip file. Maybe flashtool made partition that big so every file could go there easily and it couldn't set exact size.
There is no other tool on internet, only ext2read.

OK, don't forget to add CWM and root into your ROM. Actually I will rewrite my post in few days.
OK, the tutorial is rewritten. But it is not done. I will finish the rest later.
i did these steps[even without adding CWM ,just making a flashable stock rom(not included cwm) from cwm] ,but while want to install zip (my custome rom) from recovery ,installation after 2 seconds facing with error("installation aborted")
what is it's reason?
thanks

I understand now.
First that zip should only make use to you to learn a little bit more about development. To install that you need already to be rooted with CWM installed.
Second it doesn't install because our devices use a little bit different things. Edit and change every MTD to EMMC and every yaffs (or similar) to ext4. (Notepad ++)
I have only one recovery, from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2034639
Where I need to put it? in zip file or in system folder?

Yes, Iv'e done this before.
1. Rename the .ftf to .zip and extract system.sin with winrar.
2. Get program Called Internals Linux Reader.
3. With Flashtool use the option extract data from sin and select system.sin and extract data.
4. With Internals Linux Reader Mount Image and Copy everything inside the image to a folder.
5. Go into folder and highlight everything and right click and press add to archive (WINRAR!!!!!!!)
6. CHOOSE ZIP AND DONE THERE YOU GO!
NOTE - YOU DONT HAVE META-INF FOLDER SO YOU WONT BE ABLE TO FLASH!
