Currently I have caty 1.5 running as my rom with the baseband l997UCKK4 and the kernel 2.6.35.7-l997RYXKG3-CL366622. I want to know what other modem I can install onto my infuse with android 2.3.6 firmware and all the other stuff i mentioned.
Lately my wifi and mobile data connections constantly drop and reconnect, I was told in the caty rom post that its a modem issue not a rom issue. I was reading the roms currently made and how to install. However I read it is bad to use a modem for a kernel that isn't compatible. What modem would be better for me to use than the current one I have. Thank you very much for the help. It has been a tough couple of weeks with a bad root, then having to odin flash recovery and root, and being stuck for about a week without a working recovery and being able to backup. Has been smooth up until now, data means everything to me. I used several GB a month in data.
All the modems in infuse superthread are compatible...just choose one and flash away

It's hard to say what modem is best. What works well for one person may not work so well for someone else.
Personally, I prefer the kk4 modem.
As suggested, take a look at the modems in the super-thread and experiment a little (they're all compatible).
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
Install modem after modem, each for 2-3 days, and check out which suits best for you. Many here have KK4 as best. I have KI3 as best. It all depends on needs and wants of the person, and his/her hardware.
So I am having problems with wifi dropping out constantly. Mobile network stays connected fine when not using wifi. But the wifi is always dropping out after connecting. I have tried seven different modems and now a new rom, Zeus. I need my wifi, what do I do?

1. Change your router lease timeout to a finite value, say 1 week, from "forever".
2. Try changing channel number to something else.
I have Zeus, and have good WiFi with no dropouts.
Changed channel to auto and lease time to one week. I will let u know if this works. So far so good.

The size of modem.bin in both the files (UCKE3 and UCKD5) is the same -- 15,728,640 bytes.
Am not sure if all modem files are the same size or not, so putting this across to confirm myself that these two are what they are though the size is the same.

Cos some hardware gets better performance on certain radios. And many, if not all, love to experiment with different modems to see what suits them best. I love one with more battery compared to one with more speed.

They're both AT&T modems, the Infuse has never been sold by any other carrier. (That is going to change Tuesday...)
As to them both being the same size, that's common for partition/PROM/firmware raw images. They ARE different - different md5sums.
so what is the difference between the two?

Has anyone checked if there are differences beyond version strings? Then again, I don't see why you'd bother to recompile a modem to release a new firmware unless the modem had changes as well..
Just wanted to say that I've been waiting for new modems to try as the UCKE3 I was using was pretty poor in 3G performance. Where my old Captivate was getting solid 3G signals most of the time, for some reason I wasn't getting the same with the KE3 modem on my Infuse in the same locations and I was somewhat often getting only edge or no signal at all.
Having tried UCKD5 for a little bit, it seems like download speed is better and signal is much more solid so far. Need to do more testing, but I like it alot so far.

+1 to this. Looks like the signal is more stable in KD5 radio. Gotta see how it goes. Will report back after a day or two.

Pretty much not possible without major decompiler/disassembler experience.
The radios might even be encrypted.
Most likely E3 has a bunch of bugfixes not present in D5 since it's newer.

That was my gut feeling too... E3 is an improvised version of D5.
Flashed UCKD5 modem
The building I work in is notorious for killing the signal. I flashed the UCKD5 modem yesterday and so far it seems that I have better signal than with UCKE3. Will run this modem for a few days more then will try the other. I sometimes wonder what I'd accomplish if I weren't a phone junkie
I get a lot of random data dropouts, even when I switch to cdma only on the wireless network settings. Way fewer on cdma, but they still happen often enough that I notice them. I can go from looking at a web page one second to no connection the next.
On the road listening to pandora the other day, even with perfect reception on the local i595 corridor, I suddenly went from full bars and 4g to "searching for signal". It's happened a few times. Sometimes it fixes itself, sometimes I need to reboot or switch airplane mode on and off.
I know I'm not the only one having at least some problems. Can I get an amen, brothers and sisters? Seriously, I am becoming very frustrated very quickly with my very expensive toy. Maybe Samsung will take notice if enough people complain...
Should have learned my lesson with the epic on sprint, But these amoled screens are like cell phone heroin.

I've noticed the connections are quite ****ty. I thought it was just me because I live in a 1 bar area for both 3g and 4g. It's odd how my connection is always on 4g when I wake the phone up but the minute I start browsing the web it decides to drop me to 4g, it's so unreliable I'm forced to use my slower home connection(30mb/s but since it's wireless it's below 10mb/s, so slower than 4g)
What modems are ya'll using? I had those issues with EE4 but since flashing the EP1Q modems onto my EE4 rom, everything has went smoothly.
I've never gone to the GB leaks so I've never changed the modem.

Stock EE4. I should try flashing a GB leak, or at least a leaked modem fw. I don't know why I haven't yet.
EP1Q radios still suck. I get slower 3G and still get the drop to 1x problem.
Does Samsung create these or does Qualcomm? What about for the Nexus phones?

That's only true if you flashed them previously. I went back to complete stock first, then 1.9.1 and then flashed 2.0. I'm on EE4.
Hello All
I Recently updated my baseband after much frustration with GPS and pleased to say i now have GPS instant locks. real instant locks 1-2 Second. Now, I am really wanting to flash a custom rom w/out losing my current GPS state. Can anyone confirm that has done the same thing (updated baseband and achieved instant locks) That after you flashed a custom rom you still have instant GPS locks? and which Custom rom you flashed? Thank you in advance EVERYONE.
You can flash a stock 2.3.3 based ROM, and GPS will work perfectly.

I'm running Gigglebread, which can be found on RootzWiki.
I've never experienced an issue with it, and GPS locks are pretty good. I average 14-16 hours of battery life @ 1.2GHz OC with -100 mV underclock with Faux123 CM Kernel.
For a stock based ROM, I would recommend Tsugi's 2.3.4 ROM.
Thanks for your reply. I ran tsugi previous to updating my baseband and yes tsugi was great. Does it not matter that it is stock 2.3.4? And not 2.3.3 based. Gps wise?

12/26 update- I ended up reflashing weapon 3.0 (rom i had previous to Tsugi) I ran that the longest of any rom, i really liked the functionality of it: fast, quick panel toggles etc were super useful. only problem was GPS. After update/re-root/re-flash of weapon. I am excited to say still have instant GPS locks!! YAY. Thanks FatalityBoyZahy for helping me decide whether i should do it or not

I'm so glad I found this, cuz I'm xtremely satisfied with weapon 3.0 and dont wanna go back to stock,,,,
So just to recap a bit, you went back to stock, updated baseband, reflashed weapon and all is good? when you reflashed did your wipe cache & dalvik and format sys?
And also, are you having any problems with usb not mounting extrl sd to computer?

Yes. I was running tsugi, then updated baseband, reflashed CWM using NV flash, Rooted using JBoxer posted root.zip, then reflashed weapon, before flashing I followed whitehawks directions in OP: I wiped/ data factory, wiped system. Then flashed the rom, Everything runs perfect as it did before only now I get instant gps locks, data, wifi, mounting ext and int sd works perfect as it always did. Hope that helps
Now an even more stupid question. I have service through Cincinnati Bell... if I want to update my baseband, do I need to find a special file? Or will the July basebanf thread work? Is that baseband file specific to T-Mobile ?
If I need a specific baseband for Cincinnati Bell, would anybody know where.to go for that information? It seems that the.Cincinnati Bell G2x users are an ultra small group .. so threads are limited.
Thanks in advance.

I updated my baseband and now every ROM I've run has almost instant GPS locks. Granted, stock and 2.3.3 based roms like weapon and Tsugi or even Baka get quicker fixes, but to me, you can't give up the added functionality of CM roms like eagles or Phoenix blood. Flashing any other rom shouldn't alter your baseband at all. The new baseband in conjunction with apps like GPS fix and faster fix should add up to almost instant locks on any ROM.

Thanks. Ive actually ran those mentioned roms and gps fixes (when I was on old baseband) for me personally they had too many bugs in the features I used most. Great roms nonetheless, just lacked in areas I needed. Weapon s works perfect for me. I understand roms do not change baseband, I was just curious as to if it affected the gps functionalityThanks again for your suggestion s
Well I suppose that is why we have a recovery Nvflash.. I'm gonna give it a shot and see what happens.
I'll let you know and then we'll have the answer to whether basebands are carrier specific.
I would sure love to have GPS locks... on average it takes me over 10 minutes to get a lock. GPS status shows that I see and am using 5 or 6 satellites .. but when I open maps... it just takes forever to get a lock.
Lets see what happens ........

Stock and CM7 based roms mount the internal and SD card differently. You will experience problems if you install applications to your SD card on one type of rom and move to another. Changing the mount point manually (editing vold.fstab) will fix some of the problems (ie. your programs will launch properly) but will disable USB mass storage as the rom will try to mount the wrong (virtual/)directory to the USB path.
This is just from my own experience going between EaglesBlood(CM7) and Weapon(Stock). I'm not an expert at this but I tried five or six different changed to the vold.fstab and couldn't get everything just right after switching from EB to WG2x.
Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a way to make the current structure of your internal/external storage work with a new structure, and have USB mass storage functionality. I just haven't found it.

Very brave! I would have done it in your position too. Instant Gps locks was a must for me. Looking forward to the update. I'll be praying for a good turn out
Flashed following instructions ... it appears the basebannd was not cell provider specific. Or, if it is, entering the apn information straightened it out. I have the July 15th baseband and my phone still works.
However, it makes no difference in my GPS locks. They are still slow. Maybe I will edit the GPS configuration file as mentioned in a couple other threads.. and see if that coupled with the new baseband will improve it.
If you care at all, I will post an update.

Absolutely I'm always open to learning. Thanks for your update. Have you tried gps running stock? Immediately after updating baseband, our did your just reflash weapon immediately to test run gps?
Did.not test run ... immediately reflashed...
However, in the GPSconfig file I disabled the wifi wiper (very bottom of file, change value from 1 to 0) and I had instant GPS locks.!!!
I mean instant.... less than 5 seconds. May be a fluke so I'm gonna drive around and periodically open maps to see how long it takes to lock in.

Absolutely made a huge improvement. Once I made that change to the gpsconfig file, I have had GPS locks in less than 1 minute.

I get crappy wifi on ucld2 as well, but everything else is better, so I deal with it.
I also have the same problem with m skyrocket. After installing the latest ucld2 ROM once, it started happening with all the ROMs including GB.
I am currently back to GB.
Just as a side note, my skyrocket works fine at home, it is just that it dosn't connect properly to office wifi even though my laptop and kindlefire connects without any issues.

Try LeeC's modem that is UCLCA3 adapted for ICS. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567213
Also, I am using mohan_kr's Embryo ROM with the D2 modem, and the Wifi problem is not there. I was previously on full bloat with UCLD2 and th modem was bad. I used LeeC's to good effect in that case.

I don't think there is a "best" modem for CM10. From what I understand, it depends on your actual device, your distance from towers and your usage patterns (e.g. how often you hop from 3G to 4G). I could tell you my limited experience with various modems and CM10, but it could prove to be unhelpful for your specific case. That said, the G7 modem worked better for me on both AOSP and JB/TW roms. I live in a cellular blackhole and my phone bounces between basic phone service coverage to 3G to 4G. When I was using the latest modem (K1 I think) and an AOSP rom, I don't think I ever saw my phone get a lock on 4G. And TW roms would always say "Network Extender" (instead of Verizon Wireless) on the lock screen.
In short, try 'em out for a day or two and see which one works best for you.
Every radio/modem is going to give every single user a different experience. There is no single "best" one because everybody gets various results. What's "best" for me may not be "best" for you. Only advice i can give you is to try out different ones and if you find that gives you really good results then stick with it, there's no reason to fix something that ain't broken
Okay. Thanks both of you! I live in a cellular black hole too and am very surprised I get to send texts at all because its just my phone,my bros iPhone, and Motorola phones that even get service in my house. I'll try swapping them around a bit starting with the factory one and ending with newest. Thanks!
