Looking for a Linux Version???
Go Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2260704
This solely uses the SD Card, which, by default is always kept mounted by
a partition. So, you wouldn't run into any trouble except when you try to
partition or format the SD Card.
I repeat, no need to mount any partition... By default, the SD Card is always mounted, so, I thought using it will be way better than using the /data partition
To take a screenshot:
Code:
Run "shot.bat"
Your screenshot will be saved in a folder named screenshots automatically.
To capture video:
Code:
Run "record.bat"
Press "Ctrl+C" when you have finished recording.
This will basically start recording your screen frame by frame, and automatically
save it in your SD card. Note that recording the video alone is not enough.
Do the following to pull those frames from the SD card, and make a video out of them.
Code:
Run "mkvideo.bat"
Enter the Name that you want to name your video. DON'T ADD AN EXTENSION!
The files will be collected from the SD Card, and a video will be made out
of them. Then, the temporary files will be cleaned automatically, from both
your SD card, and your system.

Take your time mate:thumbup:
Sorry bro i just found out how this can work out
I've to put it in root folder
It's working great now:thumbup::thumbup:
Thanks al lot! That´s what i was looking for.
I tried to get better Video-Quality (libx264 as *.mp4).
I modified the .bat
Code:
ECHO off
REM snaps mode
REM fb2png credits go to respective developers
REM thanks to whiskey103 for his screenshot.bat for windows
REM thanks to vineethraj49 for his mkvideo.bat (video as *.avi)
REM thanks to me and my computer

Someone knows how to make the quality better then with my modified bat?
Me again:
To use your shot.bat i had to download 2 *.dll´s to get "date.exe" working (libiconv2.dll and libintl3.dll). Without these .dll screenshot not possible.
Maybe you can add these two *.dll into your tool directory (don´t know if it´s allowed, check it here).
Download (GnuWin) Libintl.exe(?) from here and install it.
You´ll find the 2 needed *.dll at "C:\Program Files (x86)\GnuWin32\bin".
I´m, running Windows 8 Pro.
Maybe you can add (after changeing directory path) my modified "record.bat" for taking screenshots from running androidsystem
Code:
@ECHO off
REM Record_running_Android
IF EXIST %~dp0new ECHO new directory found! :)

FOR /F "tokens=*" %%i in ('%~dp0tools\date.bat') do SET DATE=%%i
MOVE %~dp0new\screen.png %~dp0new\%DATE%.png
goto loop

I´m using extSdCard as directory, because my Micro-SD-Card is mounted there.
Maybe change it like this:
Code:
@ECHO off
REM Record_running_Android
IF EXIST %~dp0new ECHO new directory found! :)
IF NOT EXIST %~dp0new ECHO new directory not found! :(

Remember that the *quality* is always the same. It pulls the images (frames) in the same resolution as of your phone. If you are talking about the FPS, you should modify this line...
Code:
ffmpeg -r 4
The -r switch controls the FPS.
Again, the FPS depends upon how many screens are actually captured by your device. If you have a fast SD-Card, and a fast processor, it is indeed likely that the frames captured would be more. You can try increasing the -r 4 by 2/3 frames and see if the video is suitable to your needs. (eg. -r 5/ -r 6, etc...)

Internal SD? Same path you use in your batch-scripts. Should work for everyone.
[The Script i posted before was for use on micro-sd (working for my device) - i have changed it later ( ) to use on internal-sd for everyone]
Only one problem: the name of the files... can´t use the mkvideo.bat to make a video... i had to rename them after captureing using Ant Renamer2.
But you can add the 2 .bat from me as a "Bonus" into your zip if you want.
Sure!

cool! i have no objection. as of mp4 encoding too, you could add it as a feature, but do release it in this thread only. I sure would give you credits for a version 2.0  i don't want xda to be weeded by one more thread. there are already many (by a gazillion n00bs )
I did some cool batch-scripts (modified scripts from yours). You can download from here. Extract and copy the *.bat into the android-shot folder.
What have i done?
E.g. you can set a different path for storing the *.png on your device untill they get pulled. You can also change the destination-folder (on your local computer).

drawbacks of your method :fingers-crossed: :
not all devices are fast enough to process the "capture>pull>remove" loop which you have implemented.
except that, awesomeness quotient is great. you have added support for capturing the screen while android is running in normal mode :victory:
It can be just downloaded and extracted into the folder where you already have the files... releasing it as version 2.0
p.s. Guess its time for me to update the linux version

Maybe i can make 2 batch files (pulling as a second step). Maybe add the pull line into the "mkvideo_mp4_running_android-universal.bat".
I can test it after sleeping :silly:
And you´re right: its not so fast like in recovery (on my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3110)

Hello!
So I recently stumbled upon some information that while flashing all kinds of Roms, you might lose your IMEI, thus being left over with a nice paper weight.
To my understanding this information is stored in the EFS folder (though according to this thread it is actually stored in modemfs).
I googled around and saw many options: PC software, terminal commands, apps etc.
Since each phone utilizes this option in different ways, which would be a good way to backup these folders in case of emergency on the S Advance?
Thanks!
SOLUTION:
These are the commands from the ADB shell, but can also be used within the terminal.
Backup Process:
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 of=/sdcard/efs_backup.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 of=/sdcard/modemfs_backup.img
exit
exit
adb pull /sdcard/efs_backup.img efs_backup.img
adb pull /sdcard/modemfs_backup.img modemfs_backup.img
Restore Backup Process:
Code:
adb push efs_backup.img /sdcard/efs_backup.img
adb push modemfs_backup.img /sdcard/modemfs_backup.img
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/efs_backup.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7
dd if=/sdcard/modemfs_backup.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
exit
exit
Thanks to @mr.harsh and @KINGbabasula for help and KINGbabasula for making the script!
Please note that the restore commands haven't been tested out, but theoretically its supposed to work.
If someone has made a backup and wiped his EFS folder, he wont mind testing it out

in the terminal type:
Code:
su
cp /dev/block/mmcblk0p7 /sdcard/efs_backup
cp /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /sdcard/modemfs_backup
check that efs_backup is 10MB and modemfs_backup is 16MB.And this is for JB.I don't know about GB but most probably they'll be same...
Thank you for your quick reply.
I tested it out and got the sizes you said.
The restore process, if ever needed, is the same cp command only changing the source and destination?
Whats the difference between the CP command and the DD command?
Any way to do this from recovery or ADB?

Why use the CP command and not the DD command? Or in this case it doesn't really matter?

Still don't get the difference DD / CP
As for the commands you posted, I was asking for the restore process, so I am guessing it will look like this:
Code:
adb shell
$ su
# cp /sdcard/efs_backup /dev/block/mmcblk0p7
# cp /sdcard/modemfs_backup /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
# exit
$ exit
Is there a "push" command also (to be used like the pull command)?

I'm not sure but i think that you need to use dd to restore because you are going to flash 2 partition like flashing kernel.
You can do this (i repeat Im not sure)
Code:
adb push efs_backup /sdcard/efs_backup
adb push modemfs_backup /sdcard/modemfs_backup
adb shell
$ su
# dd if=/sdcard/efs_backup of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7
# dd if=/sdcard/modemfs_backup of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
# exit
$ exit
Pay attention cause if you dd to a wrong partition you may brick

Hmmm, so this is a pickle.
Wrong partition is always a problem, but since I also checked a thread by @frapeti, I am assuming the partition numbers are correct, though I don't know about the commands. Since we saved using CP shouldn't we also restore using CP? Otherwise I would say save using DD and then restore using DD.

No because cp copy the content of the partition. dd format the partition then copy in the partition

Oh, alright, so to sum up so people can use this for future reference:
Backup Process:
Code:
adb shell
$ su
# cp /sdcard/efs_backup /dev/block/mmcblk0p7
# cp /sdcard/modemfs_backup /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
# exit
$ exit
Restore Backup Process:
Code:
adb push efs_backup /sdcard/efs_backup
adb push modemfs_backup /sdcard/modemfs_backup
adb shell
$ su
# dd if=/sdcard/efs_backup of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7
# dd if=/sdcard/modemfs_backup of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
# exit
$ exit

That was fast
Guessing the only way to test out the restore option is if someone that made a backup and wiped his efs/modemfs folders, to test the script out.

Hi, I just wanna ask. Can I just copy the efs and modemfs folders to ext sd, then to restore I just copy and replace both files to its actual location using any root explorer (ie: es file manager)? Just asking as I read this guide on backing imei part.

Thats wrong, to backup using cp use something like cp [original efs] [sdcard/backup folder]
I guess it's better to use dd command for this purpose:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 of=/sdcard/efs_backup.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 of=/sdcard/modemfs_backup.img
To restore just switch if with of (input file / output file)

I edit ( vold.fstab ) for swaping sdcard with external_sdcard .
but now my tab dose not show any storage ?
tab: karbonn tornado
problem resolved
Flash with stock rom, and its done :good:
Download any stock rom from here :
androidxda(.)com/download-karbonn-stock-rom-models
:victory:
or you can change it with ADB PULL
Here some text which i find on net :
Download the Android Debug Bridge from here, and extract the contents (to the same directory).
Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable and open up a command prompt (Windows logo key + R, type cmd and press Enter).
Once that is open, type the following commands:
cd <entire path to adb.exe file>
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system (if that doesn't work: mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system)
exit
exit
adb push <path to original file> /system.etc/vold.fstab
adb reboot
That will grant root, mount the system as writeable and then push the original file and overwrite the modified one (and reboot your device).

I don't know about Android Commander, but a simpler way (in my opinion) would be to use ADB. You may have already installed the Android SDK (if not, go here). I assume that you don't have modified your System Path.
Move your vold.fstab to C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools or C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools
Go to the android-sdk folder, shift+right click on platform-tools and choose "Open command prompt here"
Next steps depends if you have a custom rom (a) or not (b) (see comments).
We take root privilege:
a) If your device is 4.0 or above, type adb root
b) Type adb shell then su
We make /system writeable:
a) adb remount
b) mount -o remount,rw /system then exit
adb push vold.fstab /system
adb reboot
This should do the trick.

to pull (read) should not need root.
adb pull /system/etc/vold.fstab
or
adb pull /etc/vold.fstab
what output did you get?
_____________________________________________________
adb pull /etc/vold.fstab
edit vold.fstab and change the following line:
dev_mount usbdisk /mnt/usbdisk auto /devices/platform/tegra-ehci
to
dev_mount usbdisk /mnt/usbOTG auto /devices/platform/tegra-ehci
save the file, and go back to the command line
adb remount
adb push vold.fstab /etc/vold.fstab
abd reboot

But i dont get any of em
I soft bricked my tablet trying to change the boot splash on the tablet. I need the stock param.bin to flash back onto the tablet to get it to boot again. I can only get into download mode at this point.
To do this, first we have to find where the param.bin file resides, so fire up a terminal:
Code:
su #gain root
cd /dev/block/platform #this will take us to the folder we need the name of to run the dd command later
ls #copy the output of this command and cd in the next command
cd *pastethefolder* #the folder copied from previous command
cd by-name # change into by-name dir
ls #you will see PARAM in the output of ls
pwd #the output of this command will give us the absolute path of the param file
#copy the output of pwd
#now we can run the command to pull the param.bin file with the path copied from previous pwd command
dd if=/dev/block/platform/********/by-name/PARAM of=/sdcard/param.bin bs=4096
#this will give you a copy of the stock param.bin.
I really appreciate anyone who would possibly take the time to do this and get it to me sometime soon.
Is this what you're after?
Yes and it's now fixed you are awesome
i wanted to edit this file in /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_instances
& make the file written as 0 . so, something like this, echo 0 > /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_watches
but i cant edit this file at all... i tried to change permission to 777, -> 'modification failed'
i thought to use magisk module, then i heard - module cant edit /proc folder
now, is there any way to esit this file in any ways??? plz help me!!!

You must be root in order to edit the file.
Code:
