Having started to learn a little about rooting and Roms, I managed to install Redux2-31.08-Test on my HD Desire. Lovely Rom - really like using it - however I now need to sync with Outlook 64 bit on Win a 7 machine (also 64 bit). I am aware of Gsync for Outlook and the ways that Google Calendar can be used, however I was attempting to find a way to re-install HTC Sync on the Desire. I have it on the PC but is there any way to obtain it and put it onto the phone ?
I have looked through the forums and can't find an answer to this.
Can anyone help please ?

My name is Dubie76. I am a Blackberry hybrid creator. I come from driphter.com where I am a global moderator. I have recently decided to go with the HTC HD2 and I can say that this thing is a different animal!!! What I want to know is what is better to go with. The winmo OS or flash a custom, or flash a android OS?
Next question is why when I try to install active sync it says outlook is not my default mail client. I have office 2010 and it is set as default. Do I need active sync? I assumed I did because when I tried to install the HSPL2 unlock app, it can never connect to my device however when I look at mu computer, I can open it and browser my phone. So what's up with that?
if you want to sync contacts and calenders and files then you need activesync (only for xp)
Windows Mobile Device Center for vista and win7
i ran stock rom for the longest time. when i flashed for the 1st time, i regretted waiting so long. i always loved my phone but after flashing i think i became obsessed with it. the customization possibilities are endless and there are great chefs serving more roms that what i can digest.
OK, just pulled the trigger on an upgrade and went with the Captivate. $49 from Amazon was hard to resist. Upgrading from a Tilt 2 that I love, but just can't deal with the WinMo bugs any longer. Was considering a Droid X, but the Verizon plans are just too pricey. Hope I made the right decision and that Froyo will be available for this phone pretty soon. Need to get up to speed on Android when the phone gets here Friday. Been running XDAndroid on my Tilt 2 for a month and liked it even though it is very crippled. Hope I can get and give help here. Thanks to all who make XDA such a great time-waster.
i came from the tilt 2 and i hated it more and more with each passing day. i ran XDAndroid or energyrom... it was always laggy no matter what interface i used. I've tried spb mobile shell, titanium, sense, android..
when you get the captivate... make sure you back up your device id. i've never ran the stock rom once... i flashed as soon as i got it. compared to the tilt 2, you'll notice that the response is amazing and you'll never be able to go back. I bricked my captivate once and I had to use the tilt 2 until my jig arrived and it was torture.
enjoy, my man!
Thanks for the welcome. Phone should be here on Friday. I don't want to start off with a custom ROM, but I would like to know what enhancements I should make to the stocker. I've been a WinMo user since 2003 and know all the ins and outs, but Android is new and so very different. The main thing I would like to do is sync with Outlook, if that's possible. Not crazy about using the Google cloud for my personal info and I prefer the Outlook interface. Any help in that regard is much appreciated.

Just a heads up right now, there is no easy way to sync Outlook with this phone that I have ever seen.
Welcome... I'm in the same boat w/ Miami.... WinMo since WinCE and my last one was the original Tilt.
1. First thing you'll want to do is read this and then root the phone
http://samsungcaptivate.wikia.com/wiki/Samsung_Captivate_Wiki
2. The easiest way to do a direct sync with Outlook is to use Kies
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731454
On a slightly related note, Pocket Informant has an android beta out right now.
If you used this in WinMo then you're going to be very disappointed in the native Android Cal

Good Luck and again, Welcome...

Did you have any luck with the Kies/Outlook sync? I've followed those directions to a T, had no errors at all, and no Outlook data anywhere on the phone even though it said it had synced successfully.
yes... worked perfectly after I did the following...
1. Installed .Net4 & the USB drivers to PC
2. Turned OFF USB debugging mode
3. Used HomeSwitcher to (temporarily) change back to the default launcher
4. Used a program called FileSearchForKiesFix to find all of the filenames on the phone that are longer than 16 digits. This solved the MPT crash loop issue
....and Kies connects every time I use it
I, too upgraded it from winmo, as well.

I never have the Kies connection problem, and never got the MTP loop issue when I synced it. Getting Outlook to sync properly is the only way to get my dad to keep his Captivate and not get an iSuck4.
Hi all ,
As the title says I have a Desire S on it's way and should be here tomorrow and I have a couple of questions .
1,
What's the best way to transfer the contacts and calendar from my current phone to the Desire S ?
Is it best to set up Google Sync on my Windows Mobile and use that to sync between both phones ? or is there a better way ?
I am currently using a HTC HD Mini .
2,
What's the best SatNav program for the Desire S , using offline maps ( Saved to memory card )
I am using TomTom at the moment on my HD Mini and it works perfectly .
It's my first Android phone and any guides / tips are most welcome.
My last few phones werea all Windows Mobile .
Thanks in advance .
Hi!
1.) Congrats
2.)The easiest way is certainly through google, Going from asus P750 I remember some programs to transfer data across platforms, but it was not very reliable (national characters lost etc...)
3.) I'm currently using iGo which I used on WM too, but sadly iGo can not be purchased normally for Android, it's a company solution only... so unless you want to .... iGo, I'd recommend Sygic or something similar...
4.) Wait for the phone to arrive to raize questions, I'm sure you'll have many
Thanks for the reply ,
It turned out to be easy to get my contacts and calendar from my HD Mini to the Desire S .
I set up a gmail account , and used ActiveSync on the HD Mini to sync to the gmail account .
When I turned on the Desire S for the first time and entered the gmail account details , it downloaded all my contacts .
Love the phone so far , I'm still finding my way around Android...
Same with me, i'll get my Desire S this Sunday. Before i use Samsung Galaxy Ace.
i've several question
1. If i get s-on, may be it not possible to root it atm. so my question how i can remove advertisement in some app? (last time i used adfree but i know it only work for rooted phone)
2. Where i can found flashing tools and firmware for this device? (last time samfirmware give me all of this for samsung)
Thanks before
1. u can't
2. look at the desire s android development forum, there is a thread with the OEM roms
For the of-line Navigation, I don't know which is best, just to avoid the included HTC Locations. I paid for a full perpetual licence, it refused to work and Route 66 refused to refund me.
However, I can certainly help you with some tips! I have done a beginner's guide on this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097538
Here you can download my tips and suggestions in .pdf format. I updated it yesterday.
There should be at least a couple of helpful bits in there for you!
now unable to unroot because my PC can't ID the device (my tBolt) which I have discussed in other forums (links prohibited here)... I'm relegated to the world of hacked ROMs for the time being.
But no matter what ROM I flash, this bug has me locked out of the ability to sync with my windows media player, i.e., I can no longer rip CDs and sync them to my tBolt (or sync any media for that matter). This is one function I really need back!!! every time I try to sync my droid... I get a message similar to... 'unable to ID device - contact manufacturer'
I have searched the forum, but can't find any advice on this problem.
thanks for looking - any help would be MUCH appreciated!
FIXED... reloaded HTC Sync Drivers on my PC and all seems good!
Hi .. please where I can download Twitter_1.5.0.xap, facebook_2.8.0.xap and Whatsapp_2.8.10.xap, because I can not install from the marked on my HTC HD2 with ROM Windows Phone 7.8
I need to install this programs on my HD2 with USB.
I don't think this is possible. Even if you have XAP files, you have to reinstall them every half a year, because apps installed from Visual Studio are time limited.
I don't think it's possible/efficient because AFAIK you can't connect using older versions of apps. Just ask for a working market won't you?

Hi :good:Thanks for answering me. I install the old version of facebook and works well. But not so with the old whatsapp. I searched with Google a long time but could not find the new versions. With Android never had this problem, searching the web you can find any of the marked application without problem. So far I have not found any updated applications on the web for download to my pc.

Hi Sunny.. I now use the old Facebook 1.0.0 application from Microsoft on my HD2 and it works great, despite being old works well, but what I want is to have my Windows Phone 7.8 with the latest software of Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter.
I can not install programs directly from the market because my WP HD2 I can not activate the Windows Live account.
I need activation WP with my Windows Live account.
I am an expert in making changes to my HD2 ROM :fingers-crossed:. I use Android since I bought my phone, but now I want to experiment with WP. These three programs are the basis for daily use of a smartphone.
