I tend to see bigger and bigger smartphones coming, some can easily considered as small tablets (Samsung galaxy Note anyone?)
I don't know if bigger screens are easier/cheaper to manufacture, which would explain part of this big size trend, but IMO a smartphone should be easily usable with one hand, the thumb being able to reach the whole screen without stretching too much...
So I decided to make this poll, as I don't see much people complaining about this!
Please vote and let manufacturers know what's the best zize for a smartphone!
Comments welcome!
I like 4-inchers

I think 4inch is perfect, bigger resolution is better than bigger screen.

Sorry, I felt like it was more a general discussion subject, but you are right a poll is a question, and i've ticked the "this is a question" box.
Totally my fault
3.5 to 4 inches probably....
3.7-4.0"
Nothing bigger.
The bigger the better!
I've only had 3.7 and 4.3 screens, I hope my next phone is has 4.7 or something.

I've got an upgrade coming my way soon, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what to get.
I know the galaxy nexus will be released in the next couple of weeks, and will be one of the most powerful and beautiful smartphones on the market. But as every android user knows, there will always be something better released two weeks later.
This is where my problem arises. The quad-core transformer prime will be out soon, which means quad-cores in phones will start appearing in the near future. My question is, is it worth waiting until the beginning of 2012 for these quad-core superphones? Will the benefits (battery life, speed, performance) heavily exceed those of a dual-core phone?
I'm a patient man, I can wait. But if the added benefits of two additional cores aren't really worth it, then I have no problem grabbing a GN for the next two years. I want your general opinion though.

I just dont get why the manufacturers bother with spending so much money on developing a user interface and then keeping it relevant with the latest android versions.
People say that they do that to differentiate their phones. When I see samsung, HTC, SE, motorola and LG phones I can clearly distinguish them on hardware.
Does google not allow them to release a stock phone or what? Basically it will be like we have several different versions of a nexus phone. Look at LG what good does it give them to have their user interface? Nobody says anything good about their software, they are so late with updates. LG makes respectable hardware for the price but because of the software thing I will never consider their phone.
I honestly think it will actually give the manufacturers a competitive advantage especially struggling ones and the money they will save on software development they can perhaps use it to lower the prices or something.
The vanilla interface is a bit rough in my opinion, i'm glad my HTC has sense
i find samsung contacts and dialer much better than vanilla one, i really miss them in cm7
Alright, I will go over this issue again. The members of this community who like to hack and tweak their phone are the gross minority when it comes to the consumers. The average consumer does not understand the hardware or anything about the phone. They see a phone with a pretty clock that can open an app quickly. If the manufacturers didn't offer their personal touches, there would be nothing to differentiate themselves from their competition. Consider us lucky though, we have a great community offering us any flavor of Android we choose for our phones.
That's the reason why some people chose the pure google experience. You know the Nexus One, Nexus S, and now the Galaxy Nexus. It would be nice that other manufacturers would make phones without any costom UI and other things, and the updates would be rolling out from google over the air. Welcome to reality...?

This was a thread for general discussion, there are many threads at the forum with a "?" in the end. This is the second time it's happened I really dont get it. I wasnt merely "asking" something for me but just something for general discussion.

Yea, it is stupid. Some people don't understand the English language. The Q&A section is not meant for questions without a definitive answer...those questions are meant for discussion. Some of the mods are real geniuses though.
I think he just sees a question mark and moves it. Its happened to me before and it is kinda irritating.
Rather than having manufacturer skins forced down peoples throats, i'd like to see a unified Android Theme Changer integrated into the OS. Manufacturers could then release devices with their own selection of Themes, including an option for 'Vanilla'. That way everybody has a choice.
Any additional software should be released through the Market for those that want it. One Nexus release a year is not enough for those of us who like our Androids unadulterated.
As Nexus One owner I creamed my genes over a multi-touch display I saw a while back that tracked up to 8 fingers at once. Is this a standard feature in newer phones or is it limited to select makers or models? It seems to be quite hard to find anything about this. I was wondering in particular about the Galaxy Note. (What a SWEET phone)

As technology evolves, manufacturers will make their devices as interactive as possible i.e. most likely newer devices (with good specs) will have greater multi-touch capabilities. Take the G2x for example, it can support up to 10 multi-touch points at the same time. So yes, you could say it is limited to select devices, but that is the manufactures choice. A device needs to have suitable hardware to support these things.
I always customize my phone by custom roms and etc... Free Wifi tether is important too. So a keyboard would be really nice but not sure if I would need it and is it really that important to benchmark a phone? I think Glide but I have had the SII and really liked it but I think glide would be better for keyboard and they both will get ICS so....???
I say the glide. The keyboard looks really impressive.

Really depends on your needs. If you do a lot of typing, you want the glide, no question. But if you want dev support and more power SGS II is the way to go.

Hi,just wanna ask is it worth trading my gs2 to gs3?tq
Sent from my GT-P5100 using xda premium
i think its not worth buy s3, i have s1, s2, and s3 and must say s3 is not much faster than s2.
GS3 has a better screen and faster CPU/GPU, but it's not MUCH better. Only the screen is much better. Also, the GS2 has a MUCH better camera than the GS3 (I've had the GS2, I have the GS3 now).
Owh.so ill just stay with the s2 for now.any other models that on par with s2 to buy?
Sent from my GT-P5100 using xda premium
Honestly, the only other phone I would look at is the One X (only the Tegra 3 international version). It looks and feels really nice and isn't too expensive anymore since the S3 came out.
yeh the one x is an awesome phone, i own it myself, better screen than the screen on gs2 and gs3,

the sgs3 is much faster than the sgs2, in my opinion
Sg3 is faster because of software optimisation. For now I prefer to go to a gs2. This worth for money u spent.
one x n gs3 is great. On my view its not value for that much money.
