Guys, I don't know if that also has happened with your kindles, but there's no way to create a folder on my ADW.
No way at all!
When I was using Go launcher EX I could create folders easily, but with ADW it just doesn't work.
Someone is having the same problem? any workarounds?
No, it doesn't work (and ADW Launcher hasn't been updated in a while so I'm not sure if there is a new version in development or not). It's the same with shortcuts and custom shortcuts too. It's a pain, as I quite like folders, but I'm just sitting patiently for CM7, and then at that point, I probably won't care!
lol I just posted a similar problem with apps that use folders. Did you have this problem before the update?

Yeah, this has been a problem since day 1. Doesn't seem to be just ADW either, Go Launcher Ex has the same problem. Clearly something in the KF stock ROM that disables these things.
I also started a post about the creation of shortcuts ("Car Home") and the lack of the OS recognizing that when I click "Add shortcut" it should give me a list of applications.
I suppose this is related to the lack of being able to create folders. There has to be a way to fix this without resorting to going to CM7. I'd like to be able to keep the Amazon functionality with the vanilla OS feel.

I'm suspect it's buried deep in the kernel somewhere, and I'm not sure it would be any easy fix. I could be wrong, but bearing it mind it doesn't provide any errors, Amazon must have disabled it as part of providing their custom UI.
I'm with you though, I quite like the overall feel and coloring of the Amazon interface, and it's pretty damn functional with a Launcher enabled despite the minor issues such as this.
For some reason, when I was using Go launcher I was able to create the folders, but not shortcuts. Its really strange...
I side-loaded the ADW apk 1.3.6 but it doesn't seem to work on my Kindle. I know this is off-topic but I was hoping someone could tell me which version is best on the Kindle. Every time I go to install it and open it says the ADW.Launcher stopped unexpectedly :/

Simi Folder Widget has got you covered
true, and it works even though the market says its incompatible.
I was able to create folders in Go Launcher, but only by putting icons on top of each other. You have to be really precise though or the icons just move out of the way. Huge pain, took me a couple minutes for EACH folder I made. Haven't found a way to do this in ADW yet...
Hey Guys,
the new update for ADW solved the issue, besides ADW feels a little bit faster on my kindle.
BTW, folders can only be created by putting icons on top of each other, just like we do using Go Launcher.

Thanks to you, my Launcherpro has been collecting some serious dust.........thank you x10 for the best launcher available!!!
Thanks for the update. This is by far my favorite launcher.one suggestion, is there any way to get the cube and book transition in next release. Keep up the good work.

Maybe I'll try out ADW Launcher EX now that ADWNotifier is free. I saw no reason paying for a "feature", which is standard with Launcher Pro.

Can EX import settings from the free launcher yet?
Hey, I installed ADWLauncherEX form market. Now, I'm running into some problems:
The Launcher won't save any settings, I set. In fact, every time I exit the settings dialog, the changelog pops up again. Anyone know, what to do about that?

edit: found it, you have to use an app like root explorer and delete 2 directories located in dbdata/databases.I don't recall their exact name, but they both contained the string "adw" and were almost at the end of the list.

Thanks, that did the trick. Found only one folder cointaining the string "adw", but it worked nevertheless. If it weren't for these internet forums I'd have grey hairs by now.

no worries man..i found one aswell, but most of the people with the same problem wrote they found two..
Nevertheless it works like a charm so..
Launcher works great for me so gar on a Galaxy S. However, I noticed one annoying thing: Loading the shortcut list for applications takes an eternity (I have 300+ apps installed). The same thing goes for the dialog in ADWNotfier, where you can select the SMS oder Mail-App. This definitely needs some code improvement.
Hey, I downloaded the app yesterday and it still wont download to my phone I have the captivate and it just runs a bar saying authorizing i left it overnight and it still has that running so i canceled and redid it, still nothing it wont physically install whats wrong?
I love the speed of ADW EX.
Only significant complaint so far is that there's no direct access to System Preferences from the launcher menu. Shouldn't have to go into sub-menus to access the system prefs.
Question: Is there a way to get SMS/Gmail/Voicemail notifications in the dock?
Both LauncherPro+ and Go Launcher will attach such counts to the relevant icons, but I don't see this in ADWLauncher EX. In ADW Settings > General Preferences > System Preferences there's options for "Show notifications" and "Bubble font size", but I have no idea how these apply. I sent myself a SMS, and though my Notification bar was showing one message, there wasn't anything visible in the Launcher itself.
-edit-
OK. Got it working. Didn't realize I need to download ADW Notifier as well.
Would be nice if the notifiers were smart and only wiped the numbers after you actually read the email (for example) rather than as soon as you open Gmail though. That's how Go Launcher seems to work.
So far I'm liking this. I am having a problem, and I don't know if it's a feature or a bug. Every time I swipe down on any part of the screen the notification bar will come down. I switched back to Launcher Pro and it did not do this. Also when switching to the hidden dock it drags the icon form the normal dock. I would also like to see a way to change the dock backgrounds like on Launcher pro. And I'm with saltorio, It would be nice if there was a system prefs from the main menu. But I could get used to it where it is now. Keep up the good job.

So is ADW ever going to get some widgets similar to LPP? Would live to give ADW a serious consideration but having to pay for other apps just to make up for ADWs shortcomings doesn't make sense.
One of the things I really like about the version of ADW that comes with CM7 is the ability to configure the "double-tap" feature...a feature that's lost on the ADW EX. I had to switch to GO Launcher anyway, b/c I needed folder support in the app drawer.
Does anyone know of an app that brings back the customizable double-tap?
Thanks, and thanks for all the great work, everyone.
Pull the apk out of CM7, install it on your current ROM, and see if that works.
I thought adw still had that... well the market version used to have it. I dunno. but yeah there is no perfect launcher. sorry I don't have a suggestion. maybe a home switcher or lockscreen app since both types of apps sometimes hijack the home key to make sure they always work and will then call up the launcher app.

I'm running CM7 as my ROM now. The double-click is part of the ADW bundled with it, which I don't want to use b/c of no folder support. There wouldn't be a separate .apk for just the double click, would there? I'd imagine that'd be part of the ADW?
Give it a try. Normally apps are bundled into their own apk files.
Has a working solution ever been found to address this issue?
Hey guys just letting everyone know that the GO Dev Team has just released the beta for GO Launcher HD v1.0 -- a TABLET SPECIFIC version of their famous GO Launcher EX.
Check it out:
http://golauncher.goforandroid.com/2012/03/go-launcher-hd-v1-0-beta/
Fantastic. Exactly what I wanted the tablet version to be.
Issues:
6th folder created does not stay. The folder deletes and the icons are dumped to the all apps page.
Spelling mistake for the word "systme" When adding a widget. Should be "system".
Screen transition from portrait to landscape takes noticeably long time.
To much space between top of screen where google search is and first row of widgets only in portrait mode. Landscape is good.
Need ability to add more rows than 5. Even the custom option doesn't allow it.
I love it on my Epic and I am really liking this so far. Have not tried Apex but I have tried Nova on my phone and still found myself going back to Go.

Installed many different launchers to find that the default still the winner. About this one in my opinion need lots of work. (lag, wallpaper resizing issue, widget will not added unless you restart the launcher). Am not new to go launcher its installed and working perfectly on my Samsung galaxy Tab since a while with no issue....
Again its just my opinion with Go launcher HD.

I'll have to try this out, but I've never liked Go Launcher over ADW or Launcher Pro for my phone, its always been slower and takes up more resources compared to those 2, but we'll see how it runs on the tablet
Edit - runs really nice on the tablet, thinking its going to be a keeper
It's very polished and good features so far. Once/if it has internal icon theming controls similar to ADW I will probably use it exclusively.
I noticed that sometimes when moving or resizing widgets the launcher gets stuck in edit mode.
Aside from that and a few other bugs, this will be my new default launcher once it is out of beta stage. The amount of features and the ease of adding icons, widgets, and folders is really great. I'm glad the decided to make a tablet version of their launcher.
brilliant launcher, haven't had a problem with it at all, landscape to portrait does take a while, haven't tried folders yet... the dock bar is something I've been looking forward to, looks good too.
For a first Beta this is running very smoothly. I assume in the near future they will add many more features and themes similar to Go Launcher EX. The Go Dev Team always have put out timely updates. One of my favorite features that I have only seen in Go Launcher is app drawer folders.

A damn good start. I love the old Go Launcher but this new one is kind of nice. They need to fine tune the wallpaper application, also the window transitions are adequate but nowhere near what Nova launcher has done. I will say this, this is one of the nicest Betas I have used.
Just wanted to post that people should check back with the OP link. Version 1 Beta 2 is available.

They may be but go launcher is perfect with the folders like iPhone. Its also very quick to load.
Skang-a-Lang ROM: The Fascinate Continuum
Yeah nothing beats ICS-Stock-Launcher in Terms of Speed and smoothness. I currently just use the normal Go Launcher Ex with a minimalistic Theme and I like it ( I use very fancy screen transitions so you cant really notice the lag )
Does this Beta already support themes? Guess I will just give it a try, my TF101 is charging atm >_>
Greetings
Ok, so I've been really getting into theming my Transformer Prime, and like most people I think, get frustrated when I have to redo things after flashing a new ROM. I find using Nova Launcher to be pretty spot on with backup then restoring settings which, most times, will get all your widgets working correctly with little configuration needed from there.
So the only thing I'm really left with is a good way to change, backup and restore app icons. Nova launcher is good at restoring the icons for the home screen, however I'd like something that would change the default app icon for installed apps.
I found this thread on StackOverflow that states that you can change the app icon by just replacing the image for it -without- unzipping the apk. This is great in theory, however when you update the app to a new version you'll loose that customization obviously.
I'm looking for an app, that when run, will present a list of all installed apps, let you choose it, then pick a custom icon. The app would then change the apps -default- icon, meaning that change would propogate everywhere in Android, so you wont have to mess with setting different icons for your launcher, and launcher X widgets, and drawer would also get changed.
When you update your apps and run the app icon themeing tool then it would, again, present you with a list of installed apps and you could just choose the newly updated apps and change the icon again( or better yet the app would do that for you! ).
Anyways, I have no idea if this is possible. I'm not sure if the icon in the apk for an app are all standard named, if it is, this seems possible. If it's not, then if it's in the apks manifest file then you could extract the name of the icon, and copy the new one in it's place under the same name.
If either the icon names are always the same( doubt it ) or if it's in the manifest file this seems pretty doable to me.
What do you all think? Have you seen anything like this app out there? What do you do to change / restore app icons( system wide preferably, not just in a particular launcher ).
Vote above and if it gets enough traction maybe we can convince a dev to look into it. Obviously you'd have to be rooted, but I think most everyone would be ok with that
EDIT: I did find this thread, with a windows tool to do kinda what I'm talking about. If it had / has backup, restore for when you update apps then it would be perfect. Would prefer an on device app, but I'll take what I can get.

Hello everyone!
This project is for the Catapult Open Source Launcher or just Catapult for short
What is Catapult you may ask?
It is a launcher that I have started that is currently a port of the stock launcher and CyanogenMod's Trebuchet.
What does it do?
Not much ATM, but with the help of this great community it can do a lot
Currently I am the only developer on this project but I would love to get other devs involved as well. With help we can turn this into one of the most powerful launchers yet
Currently the sources reside at https://github.com/LG-Android-Coding/android_packages_apps_Catapult but if it picks up speed I'll move them to another place.
Please help in this project
Thanks!

I wish for it to be a powerful yet open launcher. The last one similar to this was ADW Launcher and hasn't been updated since 2010
There are many powerful launchers out there, but barely (if any) are open source
I aim to change that. Any feature you want, if you code it, we'll add it
I guess it will be up to us: What will this do that Trebuchet does not do (besides the name translation to English ?
The look is certainly similar (both draw from "stock"). Trebuchet has been ported to cm10, will likely try one lifted off another ROM.
Trebuchet's problem now is fragmentation. For cm9, I have found several downloads, mostly different. Some have properties right on the main properties pane (I prefer this), other have them buried somewhere under system properties (I have never found them), others have none (but honor my desktops). We should have one place, GIT or other download place, for Catapult current version.
Because of the common source and because many of us are using Trebuchet on cm9, it would be a great convenience and boost for Catapult if it honored the pre-existing Trebuchet desktops and settings. To be up and running after flash (or push), not having to fall back to adw, would be great!

I think ICS launchers (Stock/CM/Apex/Nova/Holo...) look and feel quiet similar. However SGS3 launcher has many advantages eg. able to create folders in the appdrawer, sort apps, hide apps... I like it very much. If we can have these plus themes, this launcher will be the best launcher.

Actually what i really would like to see here is speed, Im about to flash your CM10 and we both know the P500 is fairly underpowered but a very good work horse when it comes down to it. Theming should also be up there as a priority. Im gonna download the source and scratch around a little, if i get a theming solution, i will push it back to git. Simple things like frame/border colours, icons for now
If you get a working theme solution I will love you forever and ever

This may end up a new thread if some Dev takes the -- multitasking launchers for small displays:
1. Tiled, side by side a la note 2. Resizing so do in paranoid.
2. Cascaded -- first one still relevant and maybe best: web OS, now open source. Resizing so for paranoid.
3. Pulse! This reader has elegant and usable interface. Can see a whole launcher based on this. But less radical and quite relevant here: the bottom program bar becomes slide-able and includes icons or thumbnails of active apps. Select or slide between as in pulse.

There are several sliding taskbars around but from what I read of their descriptions, they are more customizable app-drawer subsets rather than task switchers. They also waste screen space with another taskbar--what I have in mind would use the regular one.
I think I'm just gonna let this die. No public interest at all. Might develop it on my own and if it gets good enough I might actually release it.
