I, like many a XDA member, switch phones pretty often. This year I have been through a Nexus One, Samsung Vibrant, G2, and tomorrow I am ordering a MyTouch 4G. I have purchased 3 games from Gameloft. I have Sandstorm HD, Let's Golf, and Dungeon Hunter.
I bought Sandstorm on my Vibrant, and the other two on the G2. I was hoping to get all three games on my NEW SHINY MyTouch 4G. According to Gameloft though, the games only work on the device that you purchased the game for.
Now is it just me or does this sound like total BS? I mean why is it that every other app developer that dev's for Android can let you re-install purchased apps when you switch phones, but GameLoft can't. Is that F*%#@!$ ridiculous or what?
I mean I can see if I was to switch from android to iPhone, or WP7, but we are talking about a switch from one device to another. I am pretty sure they don't reprogram each game for each android device. I really love gameloft games but this is basically a deal breaker for me. If they don't give me all of my games on my new device, I am through buying games from them. I buy a lot of apps. I would guess that buy at least one per week.
Anybody else think this policy is BS and just a ploy to make extra cash?
Love it
I love Gamelofts Policy +1 for Gameloft WIN!
I find their policy absurd. That is why they will never have me as a customer until they quit being draconian and greedy. I think if they want to compete with the rest of the dev world for android they need to learn to play nicely in android playgrounds. If not they will not be around except for the people who think their policy is awesome. I feel really sorry for the ones who are not rooted who cant backup their gameloft games so they can play them on their new or replaced android phone.

Lies, Spend more money make them richer so they can invest in R&D for better Games.
You know what?
I would also appreciate cross-platform support..
E.g. you pay for the full version of "Documents To Go" on your Iphone.. you still have to buy another Licence for Android to use it to the max there..
That's something I would like to see them reconsidering..
But of course switching devices with the same OS should be out of question..
I support pirating Gameloft (after buying first copy).
Policies like this are the reason they aren't selling as well as on the friggin Apple Store.
Dude, I just discovered this policy today which led me to this thread. I'm pissed cuz I just got a new G2 and the two games (MC2 Black Pegasus and Asphalt) can't be redownloaded on my new G2. This is just ****ing ridiculous. I paid nearly 5 bucks for those games. **** that. They lost me as a customer. NEVER AGAIN. They can bet I won't be downloading their games (officially) ever again. Bull****....
their games are the only ones that I don't buy.

2. their games won't work sometimes

I have recently become aware of this and it is a disgrace. They should put their stuff in the Market and all this goes away. I am currently in negotiations with their "support" people to see if anything can be done. I am not hopeful.
Is there a way of flagging this stuff with Google perhaps? Certainly, I would not buy anything from outside the Market and nothing from Gameloft again without properly checking these restrictions.
Supposedly, their policy has been changed according to Android Police. I haven't seen anything on their site that says so and actually attempting to download games fails for my new phone. Put in a support request, will see what happens.
Ok to start off, no flaming, respect to game devs for android, but I am asking myself why don't we have decent games? Why? Now I love the games we have, but there's only a 100 or so out of 10000000 games on android market that are worth playing. If you go to 'just in' in the games section then all there is are puzzles and low quality sex games. WTF! Seriously this is getting worse. Android market is growing and growing with apps but they don't really have games that give us the full potential of our high tech devices, they look more like games for the HTC g1, I am very dissapointed with this and my next phone is going to be a iPhone despite the amazing feautures of android just because of the quality of apps. Or shall I say games more because one of the main reasons to get a android was to play some awsome games. Gameloft is doing a amazing job to give good games. Love angry birds, adequate other game dev's, but that's about it. The rest are just low quality rubbish. Not flaming just my point of view. Waiting for iPhone 5 if this doesn't improve. This started when I played COD : Zombies and cut the rope on my friends iPhone 4.
What's your thought please share

It is easier to develop on iPhone because there is a one -fixed- kind of device. I mean, no different resolutions, no different devices, no different hardware on devices like android. Of course it is easier to develop. Nevertheless, still there is better applications for Android. Or am I wrong? iPhone is more like a "showcase" which is useless in real world -in my opinion-. But I would buy iPhone if I want games.

And I agree about the resoloution, but now the new android devices are always 400x800 so why not have specific games just for those.

No, I'm not saying Android is not for games. I'm saying that iPhone is. Android has a different target in mind. Of course there are plenty of games, from sports to FPS, but if you're not ok with them, well, iPhone is the only way.
If you're just complaining why android doesn't have "cool" games, well, do a forum search, you'll find plenty of threads about this. No need to open one more.

I was just expressing my opinion, and gaming is one of the things you do on ur phone when u r just bored sometimes on the move. Im not complaining about android, in just thinking what's so hard about making a good game on android. I think android market should have some requirements on devs making games to sell to improve the standard rather than people just publishing basic puzzle games or sex wikis lol.

Mine is 480x320 and I love it. And I am not going to buy a "huge" device. And I think I am not the only one.
That would mean review over the market, and that may lead to an annual fee to post applications on the Market. I don't personally want to pay a fee for just posting my free apps, nor I'd like if I were selling low-price ones. Applications on the Market are indexed though by the community: if the majority of the population likes a sex game, then it will be in both the main screen and in "most popular" of their category. As of new games and apps, it's up to the developer to publicize it, just like I'm doing.

why do gameloft games comes after 3 or 4 months after it came for iphone?? android phones have more powerful hardware than iphone..sometimes when i search for gameloft games for android..the iphone ones show up and there are so many amazing gameloft games for iphone which havent released in android like "sacred of odyssey" "shadow guardian" "nova 2" "dungeon hunter 2" "eternal legacy" "star battalion" "asphalt 6" "hero of sparta 2"....why so much hate towards android will we get those games any sooner? is there anything we can do to get them soon?
Lets face it, they have a huge fan boy following. Hell even the media it's biased towards apple, so of course they are going to cater. Their app market it's also bigger, giving them more competition, no matter how useless some of them are. That and from what I hear, doing know the truth of it because I don't know how to crack, android apps are easier to pirate. Kind of annoying, but then I sit and look how much freedom I have with my phone, and it makes me feel so much better. Yep. iPhony devs only have one primary OS to deal with, whereas Android is often customized by carrier, phone model, region and version meaning devs have to work way harder at developing on it.
Some developers have pulled off some pretty awesome **** with Xperia PLAY's touch-pads.
Gameloft, on the other hand, has been spotty - yet playable.
Splinter Cell Conviction, however, has been the only one I can say was absolutely unplayable. You'd think they would naturally figure something out that's functional since other devs have laid out the groundwork to perfect control schemes, but I ran into an update today that somehow rose the bar on horrible touch-pad usage (which is amazing because Conviction already held the title as the worst).
Now there's no analog movement whatsoever... the entire touchpad workspace is now just simulating the touch-screen, and movement is tied to the d-pad... and with that, all the auxiliary functions that should be on the d-pad are spread out in completely unnatural-feeling places.
I could understand if Gameloft hadn't already churned out some workable touch-pad control schemes, but it's like they un-learned all their accomplishments from MC3, N.O.V.A. 2 and Shadow Vanguard.
Stay classy, Gameloft -_-.
When did you buy Splinter Cell? I would never buy an old gameloft, they are just bad. Espaccially the one wichwhere availeble before the Xperia Play came out.

I got it around when the $0.99 sale was going on. Pretty much stocked up on any Xperia PLAY Optimized GL game I didn't have.
I bought SC: Conviction a long while ago during one of the 99 cent sales and finally got around to it yesterday after beating Rainbow Six. Right when I started it it asked for an update. Holy crap you are correct, the game is straight out unplayable. The right touchpad doesn't work half the time and when it does it randomly fires your gun or "activates" something. You need to reach your thumb over to the left touchpad just to be able to look around, but as for targeting people and getting headshots? Nearly impossible. I think I may just dump it and not bother finishing, its just plain frustrating to play.
The sad part is the production values on it are amazing, the graphics and all. But the controls are beyond horrendous.
Then the strangest part, Rainbow Six was unbelievable. Console game quality production values, amazing graphics, good voice acting, and the controls were dead on perfect better than any other FPS I've played on this phone. How were both of these games developed by the same people (or did Ubisoft make them and Gameloft distributes under license)?
Y'see, this is why I own an Xbox. I played the Gameloft Conviction on my iPod touch about a year ago and hated it. <3 Xbox Conviciton <3

Yeah.. I have a PS3.... plus this game was only a buck, if I had paid $5.99 for it I would be really angry.
Even though you're only paying a dollar for a game I understand your expectations can't be super high, but you expect a game to at least be playable. This one absolutely is not. Its just strange because Rainbow Six is the complete opposite and one of the best games on the phone ever, IMO.
I sent a nasty email to GL just a moment ago regarding Sacred Odyssey force closing and the crappy SC Conviction. I have 3 different GL email addresses and I sent an email to each one. It seems so far this year I have been having nothing but unresolved issues with GL, either its games or there online multiplayer issues. And I stated that in my email. I was unaware of Sacred Odyssey not working on 2.3.3 at all and bought the game only find I cannot play it. I swear I am so close to just telling GL to kiss my a$$ and just get my games from them elsewhere, I mean if they cannot uphold their end of the agreement to supporting a game why should we have to pay. We are expecting to at least have a functional working game(s) and most dont work and have serious issues, some worse then others, so basically we are just throwing $$$$ into GL face for a non working game(s). This in my opinion is stealing from their customers. They take your money, you think you are getting a functioning game and BAM! Screwed. Well screw you GL. I utterly despise you and your complete lack of support, I know why GL doesnt use the android market, because if they did Google would hound their asses to fix their games and by having to use their wapshop they have you by the balls. I know people will reply to this message and say "just dont buy their games" I wont enymore. I am sick and tired of their bullsh!t and their lies. I hope that somewhere GL employees and their bosses see this post and realize they are becoming a complete disaster and a joke. They make pretty games, but you donrt buy a game just to look at it. So I say lets stop buying there games, and I was going to make a thread on their forums but forget it, there has been a thread there for months where people list their issues with Xperia PLAY games and its just being ignored by GL. The only person replying to anyones posts is Nik, and that persons reply is "I have forwarded your message to your support department".... more like trash bin. GL are a bunch of a$$holes. Sorry for the rant, I didnt mean to type this long of a message, I am just so extremely tired and angry with them. And no I dont want cheese with my whine.......

Gameloft's really good at giving you what they already have. And they're actually very prompt about responding considering how most big companies make you fight through 15 minutes of automated hell just to get horrible customer service.
...the problem is that they don't do too well at fixing what's wrong. Eternal Legacy, for example has an issue with the touchpad that makes you go flying in diagonal directions if you use the touch-pad at all... this means that the game was able to be released without ANYONE noticing that the analog won't even let you walk straight... I mean damn, that's a pretty critical issue.
I do appreciate that they gave me Starfront: Collision for free, but I kinda wanted Eternal Legacy to be fixed... this happened over half a year ago without them fixing it BTW.

This is exactly right about them. They are always very friendly and more than happy to give you a free game for your trouble, I got 9mm for free for complaining about Shadow Guardian and how theres a bug that basically makes it impossible to complete the game. That said, I like Shadow Guardian better, I want to finish it. I and MANY others informed them of this bug months ago, and yet they haven't done anything to fix it, and I'm sure they are still selling the game, broken.

The guys with the shield you have to aim for their legs, which is tough, or you gotta just keep moving and get on the side of them. Or use a powerful weapon like a grenade launcher.
As for SC, its because they changed the mapping, it seems that they mapped the whole touch screen to the touchpads. So the right touchpad does that when you look around sometimes. if you use the left one it won't but its way uncomfortable to use that way.
I'll write a complaint then...

Real late in the game you are jumping from these bars that are between two walls that are closing in on eachother. You need to get to the last part within the time limit or you get crushed. The problem is that its actually impossible to do, you get crushed before the walls are even close enough to crush you. Someone posted a video online of the iOS version and I did it at speed vs the video exactly and it was impossible to pass.
I posted about it here and someone else had the same problem, and then I emailed Gameloft and they agreed it was a known bug and they haven't fixed it yet.
So I can't finish the game at all?

Correct, and Gameloft has known about it for at least 3 months if not more. But hey they will give you a free game if you complain.
Even though the general consensus seems to be that In-App purchases are a HATED thing by consumers...Devs keep coming out with apps that utilize it.
I'm curious to see how many folks from XDA actually have payed into IAP.
I have on ios, ive spent 7$ on dead space. But most games i just use the iap cracker hack, downloads iaps for free lol

They do not push you to buy, but they implement a reward/delayed gratification system that humans succumb to, justifying in game "coins" purchases for the impatient.
I have a lot of games that use this: tiny tower, svz, dead trigger, contract killer; none of these force purchases.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Recent news about Dead Trigger is what piqued my interest about IAP.
Basically Madfinger blames rampant piracy of Dead Trigger as the reason why they recently dropped the price of Dead Trigger from $0.99 to FREE.
To which I think it's a load of BS and it's more likely they're using known issues of piracy on Android as an easier-to-digest public announcement of the pricedrop...Versus the truth, which is that their IAPs are doing very well so they're going to give the game away to entice more people in so they'll also use the IAP.
Call me a conspiracist, but since when does giving your product away for free as a piracy deterrent a good business model?...Photoshop has got to be one of the most pirated piece of software out there, you don't see Adobe giving it out for free to battle piracy though.
Actually, I prefer iap than downright paying for an app that might not deliver as promised.
Most games that use iap are actually more challenging/fun/satisfying when you go through them without spending real money to make them a cakewalk.
iAP is actually ok if it was equal to the amount that is usually charged for paid apps. However, most dev see it as a way to earn more money by crippling the game so much that it requires iap. Dead trigger seems to be ok without purchasing iap.

I agree.
Would like to but can't
Being from outside the US, I have not figured out how to do an iAP.
I can buy from the Play Store through my browser, but so far, have not been able to purchase via iAP.
While I do not play games on my Note 2, there are occasions where I would like to make an iAP.
So, long story short, if I could figure out how... I would.
Though I hate it. I would rather have a free version and a pro version I can buy on the forum through my browser on my computer vs. iAP. That way I can buy them too.
I do spend money on in game purchases, even though I think a lot of it is borderline evil and essentially charging people to cheat.
I really think there should be regulations.
I mean paying money to change some memory value in a single player game seems like a scam to me. Seems dishonest. Selling actual content is ok, but selling cheats just makes me angry!
I mean buying gems is essentially a money cheat. So sometimes I use freedom app to do that instead. And if you think cheating is not ok, then you clearly have not been alive back when every game out there had cheats FOR FREE!
And then we see the glorified gambling boxes everywhere with undisclosed chances to get what you actually want. Its the wild west.
I feel bad for the 'whales' that spend thousands of dollars on a game, because their addictive tendencies got exploited and in 5 years from now the game will be taken offline.
Also paying for power makes many games unacceptable for me and like 90% of mobile games do it now. You always have to pay for power, power increases over time. Its basically a game subscription if you want to be competitive, except instead of $20 per month, you would have to spend $300 per month to stay competitive.
And the saddest thing about it all is that consumers accept that stuff. And so do legislators. FOR NOW. But times are changing. The Wild west of mobile casinos will end. Soon you wont be able to do micro transactions in certain jurisdictions if your game is a pay-for-cheats lootbox/pack casino, and good riddance.
