Wi-Fi Sharing Battery Drain - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi all,
I just rooted my phone tonight and froze a bunch of bloatware using Bloatware Freeze found in the Market.
I went to go study and listened to music on my phone for a few hours and noticed that "Wi-Fi Share" used more battery than anything else including the display (something like 30%).
What is this Wi-Fi sharing? I've had my phone now for a week and have never seen this show up in the battery stats. Is it just a coincidence it shows up right after rooting or is it directly related to the rooting/bloatware freezing process.
Also, I did not freeze Wi-Fi Sharing or Wi-Fi Sharing Manager because I did not see them on a previous forum post on safe to freeze programs.
Thanks!

I started seeing this on my list last night. I'm not rooted either. Not sure why this is now hogging up battery.

Freeze wifi sharing and manager!!!!

Freeze apps on the skyrocket
After i root my phone, first thing i do is freezing all my bloatware apps and for weeks i had very bad battery life (the awake time was always ON - very annoying) after reinstalling again same rom i had before (complete wipe) i decided not to freeze any apps - that did the trick, 3% loss after 9 hours sleep time.

[Q] Play Services crazy battery drain on brand new installation

I was having a few battery drain and stability problems so I decided it was time to do a fresh install of Android. The main culprit was Play Services but it was always a different thread and I could never get the problem under control. I was barely getting through a 16 hour day on a single battery charge even with only an hour of screen on time which is insane for these droid maxx's.
I flashed stock Android 4.4 and accidentally unrooted myself in the process, but that means I am 100% stock kitkat with the late April mini update.
I still have the Play Services battery drain bug.
I killed half my battery yesterday in like a half hour of screen on time and 7 hours of idle. The phone won't sleep. Google Play Services still shows as the culprit in the battery settings.
I've disabled Now, location settings, sync (it literally doesn't sync anything), wi-fi, and interest-based ads. (All tips I've seen from people that have had the bug across XDA). I've let Play Services update from 4.8 to 5.0. And it still won't let the phone go to sleep.
Anyone have any other thoughts on the issue? I'm ready to pull my hair out! I have no idea what's causing this bug but it's driving me up the wall.
BTW I don't have any meaningful screenshots right now because I'm not rooted yet. I'm going to try jcase's pie method to get root back and post via BBS, but in the meantime I've heard this is a fairly common issue, so I threw the post up in case anyone else has encountered and solved the problem. What I'll share in the meantime is that my phone has been off the charger today for 1 hr 39 min. Play Services has kept it awake for 1 hr 38 min.

Ive had this problem too... Only I am on 4.2.2. Only fix for me was either nandroid'ing back to a previous state [temporary fix] or using Xposed + WakeLock Terminator to prevent GPS from getting WakeLock [So far has been permanent for about 1 month]
There's a couple of ways to address this. As noted, this is an issue with the play services abusing the GPS. In addition, it's a problem with the stock firmware. As I am sure you want to continue using GPS, these options allow you to leave it on.
In the GPS configuration, it's possible to reduce or turn off access to GPS to individual apps.
There are apps that allow managing app permissions. You can use this to revoke access to various things. Use it to revoke play services access to GPS.
If memory serves me right, these don't require root.
I managed to get root back so what I'm experimenting with is the app ops settings. I'll report back with an update. Thanks for the ideas guys.

"Android System" keeping phone awake 24/7, draining battery life- T-Mobile Z3

"Android System" keeping phone awake 24/7, draining battery life- T-Mobile Z3
I startes noticing that even after quite a few charge cycles, I'm still getting 4-5 hours of SoT over less than 24 hours. The phone is awake 24/7, and Android System seems to be the cause, but no idea why. Does anybody have any suggestions? I've attached some screenshots.
Factory reset?
Sent from my Z3
Maybe you have some apps causing wakelocks, showing through Android system? My dad had massive data usage from Youtube which confused me until I uninstalled an app that used YouTube.
Yes something that you have installed is causing the Android System to run for extended periods.
I would first try, disabling some apps in the settings menu, to see if that helps. (like throw, bluetooth, NFC, wifi, hotspot) see if any of those help
I would factory reset, and be very careful about what you install back onto the phone initially.
Or instead of reset try, clearing out all apps and re-install one by one untill you hit a bad one. If that does not work I guess reset.

In Settings>Power Management, there is a selection called "App power consumption". Have you checked there? There could be an app listed that drains the battery.
I had checked app power consumption, and unfortunately it didn't give me any further information. Better Battery Stats is also almost completely useless without root, but I did try it and saw Performance Manager or something to that effect was what was keeping it awake (in Kernel Wakelocks). I ended up doing a factory reset, and it seems like it's working fine now with the same combination of apps.
I think I disabled something I shouldn't have using pm block (package), since after some searching it seems like the phone might have been constantly searching for a blocked package, keeping it awake. It's working fine now, thanks everyone for your suggestions!

Why do Android System, Android OS, & Bluetooth account for majority of battery drain?

Why do Android System, Android OS, & Bluetooth account for majority of battery drain?
On my old Galaxy S4, I found that the screen was almost always the highest battery drain -- and if I saw some app using close to or more than the screen, then I knew something was wrong. However, with my Galaxy S5 (running OptimalROM 13.1), I am consistently seeing Android System is the highest drain, followed by Android OS -- at times I'm getting only 10 to 12 hours of life, but other times I get over a day -- in both cases, it's the Android System and Android OS using the bulk of the power, never an app.
I also see some odd things like Bluetooth using nearly 10%, even though it isn't connected to any devices the entire day -- why would it use that much on standby?
I also see Google Services sometimes using over 10% -- I think that was while I had Google Maps in the background (not navigating).

I believe that is the new normal. Unfortunately, "Andoid System" in our battery stats is nonspecific: that heading actually covers dozens of little apps and functions. With each successive generation, the phones try to have more features.
You can get a little better idea with GSam Battery Monitor: by clicking on the "Android System", it brings up another window showing you all of these processes. That doesn't mean you'll be able to do much about it, though.
I was able to solve one major problem with ridiculous battery drain by looking more closely: I have a lot of mp3s and pictures on my sdcard. Android system was scanning them, but Samsung indexing service was also scanning them for no useful purpose, and every time I rebooted it would start chewing on them again. I froze the samsung indexing service and the battery life improved by many hours per day.
Where do I disable the Samsung Indexing Service? I doubt it's causing problems, but it's useless to me.

The safest way is to use Titanium Backup to "freeze" IndexService and, optionally, "S Finder". If you run into any issues, you can re-enable them easily by "defrosting" them.
Disabling them doesn't affect me at all because I use a file explorer to browse to my files directly.
OK, I installed GSam Battery Monitor a few weeks ago. Today I am dumbfounded by what my phone is doing -- after undocking it for just two hours and not using it at all, I notice it is hot in my pocket, so I pull it out and see the battery has already dropped to 78%. I check the list of open apps, and there's not much there -- my phone dialer, Camera, Chrome (with no pages open), and Messaging -- that's it.
I check the GSam battery usage, and it says the screen is using 2%, the cell radio 2%, the WiFi 1%, and the rest is "App Usage" -- I click on apps, and Kernel (Android OS) is using ~60%, Bluetooth is using 22%, and Android System is using ~10% -- so they combine for 90% of "App Usage". My Bluetooth is "on" but not connected to anything -- indeed, it is paired with only one device, which I have not even turned on in months -- the phone is getting all of its data via WiFi, which is only using 1%, yet the Bluetooth with nothing to do is using 22%!
What the hell is going on?

I know that sometimes it gets hung up if it encounters a corrupted media file while scanning for them, and that produces the symptoms you're describing. Scan your SDcard (it's fastest to do it on a computer, but there are many ways to accomplish this) for any files that are of size "0 kb" (that is, zero kb) and delete them. See if that resolves your issue.
Also try clearing cache and dalvik cache, just because that can alleviate strange problems for no discernable reason.

Battery/Lag issues since replacement & 6.0 update

After my original phone went into bootloops after the marshmallow update, I got a replacement within 1 day (thanks, AT&T, they really surprised me with customer service on this one). Unfortunately, my replacement has been full of issues. For starters, I used to get maybe 1% per hour max battery drain with idle and screen off with location and sync on (would be 97-99% in the morning if it was 100% before sleep), but now it is 5+% per hour, same battery as before, even switching it with my spare, no difference. I have Greenify installed and have a decent number of things greenified, but I don't want to have to also turn off location and sync just to get still worse battery life than I had before. A factory reset did not fix the issue. Google Play Services seems to inexplicably be taking more battery than phone idle now but it is not enough to be explaining this battery issue fully.
Also, I get lag in various applications, including pre-installed system applications. Most noticeably, Chrome and Chrome Beta have the same issue of freezing 3-10 seconds before the page is completely loaded which is an extreme nuisance. Reinstalling the apps and clearing the cache/data did not help. Various system applications run with lag too. I moved some applications to the SD card and the settings app was lagging so terribly it crashed a few times.
Any ideas to my phone woes?

[Fixed] Standby battery drain

Hello everyone!
So this thread is for those guys that are still having the standby drain even after trying everything and got no help.
My Device Is not RootedSince last 2 weeks my device was having super standby drain and I couldn't help that.
First I thought that it was due to the battery wearing out. But I had this phone(exynos version) for around eight months and that is not enough time for the battery to drain out fast. So I started looking for the fixes in the xda threads but none of them had a mass effect on what i was suffering from.
Then I read about that app named the "Better Battery Stats".
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats&hl=en
I used this app to monitor the usage that was being done by different apps.
Most of the battery i.e 61% was being consumed by the apps that were running in the background. And the second big consumer was the android system. So as was mentioned in most of the posts what I tried.
1) Settings> Display> Resolution> Fhd to hd
2)Settings> Device Maintenance> Battery> Save Power and All apps put into always sleeping apps.
3)Setting> Connections> Location> Google Locaation History and disabled it.
4)AOD Disabled.
5)Sync Disabled.
6)Wifi> Advenced> Keep wifi turned on while sleep and set it to never.
7) Reset> Reset network settings
8) Boot into recovery and wipe cache patition
9) Reset factory data(Wipe everything).
And after doing all these steps nothing much changed my battery life since when i after resetting my phone again updated all apps from play store and resetting battery got an SOT of around 3 hours.
Then I again started searching for the problem.
I installed the accuBattery app from play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digibites.accubattery&hl=en
And saw that phone was not entering deep sleep for hours that was causing the standby drain!
The major reasons for the drain were.
1) TOUCHWIZ HOME!
2) Google Chrome.
3) Facebook app.
To fix that I applied Lawnchair as my default launcher.
set the theme to dark. Disabled the location permission in the facebook app. And disabled google chrome.
Other settings that also helped were
Change the resolution to hd. Disable google location history.
And boom.... It worked Like a Charm....
Now to add an extra something to the battery life i switch to MID Power Saving mode. That Also helps alot when phone is not being used as it stops background data usage by apps.
Now the average sot that i get from my phone is around 6 to 7 hours.
And the phone sleeps like a baby. 5% Drain in 10h and wifi was on for the whole night. Deep sleep for 9h 41m.
PS: I use most of the time my phone for gaming and heavy usage.
Hope this will work for you guys too.
Screenshots Are attached for the proof!!
Thanks for this man
How are your notifications? I'm having a lot of trouble with delayed notifications, emails/messenger/etc just wake up when I take the phone and I don't even have to wait more than 5-10mins for what seems to be doze to kill everything.
I get whatsapp calls that I miss because the phone never receives it.
And STILL my battery life is far from great.. borderline bad I'd say. So sad
In settings go to device maintenance and hit battery you'll see an option for "always sleeping apps" enter any apps you don't want to run in the bsckground, which will probably be most of them. Saves a lot of data and a lot of battery.
