[Q] I have a couple of important questions

I'm new to this whole rooting thing and I just rooted my G2 last night because I wanted to do more, now I have a couple of questions.
1. How can I use a different ROM and bring all my current apps, data, contacts etc. to that rom?
2. Which folders are unnecessary on my phone?
3. Should I delete all the rooting materials after I'm finished?
I'm still using the stock OS with setcpu overclocked but I want to test a new ROM. Somehelp help me :/

I would first create a NANDROID backup of your current ROM using ClockWorkMod Recovery. Then I would download Titanium Backup (Pro) and create a backup of your USER apps/data only. It's not safe to try to restore system apps/data after flashing a different ROM. But user apps/data can be easily restored via TB after you flash your custom ROM. Contacts are synced up with Google, so you don't need to worry about them... they'll return as soon as you sign in with your Google account.
When you say folders on your phone, do you mean on your SD card? That's really up to you.
In terms of ROMs, I'm loving CyanogenMod v7.1.0. But ROMs are all personal preference. If you need more help with any of these things, there are awesome guides all over XDA. Good luck.

Definitely not on this one. If you happen to screw up your system and have to reinstall your ROM, you have it still on your SD card. ROMS generally only take up about 50-300MB on your card and if you have a large card, it shouldn't be an issue unless you download every ROM known to man.

But for some reason, every time I reboot PyroMod it bootloops me for what I don't know -____-

Im using TastyGinger on my G2.. Tried a few roms from eclair to gb and most of the time I need to reinstall my apps.. i tried using TB to bacup my apps.. but when i tried and restore after flashing new roms, tb gave me an error.. so i decided to hv this perception everytime i wanna flash a new rom, i must start from scratch..

1.Just back up all your current application and system data with titanium backup, then restore after u flash that rom. its doesnt matter how many time u change rom coz data that u backup in -titanium backup folder- untouch. for contact i recommend u save to google. 3.its up to you man.

[Q] After the ROM Burn

I am fairly new to this but did burn the Synergy ROM to my Verizon Galaxy S3. Very nice but:
After wiping out everything (Dalvick/Factory Reset, etc.) what is the best method to get back to where I was.
I have a full Titanium backup but I am sure that I do not want it to restore everything since some things are from the VRALHE version and the new Synergy ROM is from the lastest VRBLK3 (v4.1.1) ROM.
So what is the best method to get all my programs and settings for them back into the phone? Anyone?

You can use TB for all downloaded apps. I wouldn't use it to back up system apps as it causes problems when used if different roms. I would buy mybackup pro. It will let you backup contacts sms mms phone logs dictionary and a few others. Between those 2 backups the only thing you'll have to "setup" would be your home screens if your not using nova or apex. I use apex which let's me backup my screens so I can flash a new rom and within 20 min my phone will look as it did before the new flash minus any new features the rom might have

As much as some people are changing ROMs I wondered about this. I went through TB and turned off the restore on all the system apps. Quite a pain. So now I will stop it from backing up the system apps in the first place. I am using GO and it allows me to backup the screens.
Was hoping there was some magically quick method that did it all. Guess 20 mins is best.

Can backup and restore all data and system apps + data. Do not restore system data. That is different from system app data.. Do not use the option to restore system data. Data to any app is fine whether it be data or system app. There is no difference between system and data apps except that system apps are not as easily deleted. All roms have the same basic system apps. If you want an app to stay in rom regardless of data reset you move it to system. Apps in system are not removed by a data reset.

Thanks for the help. I turned off backing up system apps. When doing this I noticed that TB can make a zip file of the backup. That should be sweet. Couldn't we have ROM Manager burn the ROM and then install the TB zip.
If the above would work this could make life much easier since I would not then have to install TB find the backup and then install it. Everything would already be reinstalled.

Backups before Flashing

Hello fellow ROM-flashers!
What do you do too keep your setup when flashing, what do you backup? settings, data, accounts and so on.
Is there any good way to backup and keep your settings, and so on... or do you have to redo all that after you flashed a new ROM?
Perhaps its recommended to do it all over again and again? ... I use Pandoriam 5.7 and are happy with it :good:
But then again 6.0 around the corner I sure I want to have the latest update. Dont we all?
I find myself redo my phone settings more then I actual use my phone

Wouldn't it be awesome if there was a way to update it as you do with a stock ROM.. so you didnt had to wipe all when you go from 5.7 to 6.0 for example.
I guessing there are a lot of reasons why this isn't really a valid option... but would be great

But yeah, buying titanium backup is the best purchase you'll ever make if you often flash ROMs with full wipes. The batch backup/restore process is brilliant, I have it also saving my backups to dropbox so if anything happens to my phone, I have a copy there too (4G is awesome for this).
I've also found the best launcher is Nova, using Titanium Backup to backup and restore Nova, I don't even have to setup my homescreen again (4 sized widgets, 4 folders, completely customised - you can see it in the homescreen thread in the Q and A forum), even the widgets are there after a full wipe which wasn't possible with other homescreen launchers. The only thing I setup fresh each time is my work exchange account.
By the way, you mostly DON'T have to wipe between ROM versions. I always do because that's how I like to do things (and due to the above I have the process sorted), but most poeple don't..

When updating ROM's - I do a Nandroid + SMS/Call log backup + Titanium backup of all user apps +data.
I the upgrade the ROM over exissting without any data/cache wipe. If I run into FC's after updating the ROM, I either restore my Nandroid or do a clean install of the new ROM and restore apps + settings from my Titanium backup.

I use online nandroid to backup full data. Works a treat and you can use your phone while backing up!

[Q] Is it possible to backup settings and data before custom rom?

Good morning to everyone.
I have a stock One S, but now the S-off is possible, I would like to install a custom rom.
My question is: after rooting the phone and before installing the custom rom, is there a way to save\backup all the settings\achievements of the apps and system programs that I used in these 6 months?

Yes it is possible. I used an app called Carbon (free in Play Store) to backup my apps and their data. Carbon also has a feature to backup sms and call log but for me it messed up received times and dates of my messages. So use some other app to backup those... That might have been fixed in newer versions though. Be careful with system app backups especially if you plan to go to an AOSP based rom. They might cause problems in your new rom.

Titanium Backup as well. Not easy for newbies, but choose backup -> backup all systemdata, then uncheck all and check those with the titanium icon. A backup of data/app with all your apps and settings is a standard function of titanium.
You can see an example on the attached pic.

Keep in mind that unlocking bootloader erases all your apps and their data (mass storage stays untouched). So your data will be erased before you can root your phone. Carbon works on stock unrooted phones as well as it's basically the same as doing an adb backup from your pc. Titanium is way better when you get your phone rooted...

I don't know what an AOSP based rom is, but I wanted to try the ViperOnesS because I don't want to lose the Sense.
With my previous Nokia I was used to backup everything[/U ]with a simple click, using the Nokia Pc Suite.
With this Carbon app do you think I'll be able to do the same thing?

Carbon let's you select the apps that you want to backup. And I believe it also has an option to select everything at once... When you have your custom rom up and running you can then either restore everything from the backup or restore only the apps that you want. Apps being in phone/internal memory shouldn't matter.

Yes. When you flash a new rom it is usually required to do a factory reset (meaning erase your personal apps and data). That's where backup apps come in handy. When in custom rom, install the backup app (Carbon or Titanium) and it will see backups of your apps and let's you restore them.

[Q] How to backup all apps on android

Hi Everybody
I got nexus 4 i am quite new to android.
I usually install new ROMs on my phone just to explore about their features.
Actually when ever i install a new rom i have to do wipe all data or factory reset if i don't do that i start getting weird errors like android.media.process stopped etc so to make sure new ROM works fine i always wipe all data and all apps that i installed are gone.
I am looking for a way to so that i can save all the apps on my phone into one backup file and then when i install new ROMi just recover from that apps backup so i don't have to download them all again.
Does anyone know a best way to do that.
