[Q] Low wifi calling volume fix? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Was wondering if there's a way to fix the low in-call volume over wifi? I'm currently on the latest kj6 stock ROM, with the kj1 kernel and modem. This only occurs with calls over wifi. Will the paid voodoo app help fix this, if so please help me with the setting. Thanks in advance for your help.

I haven't had that problem since the early GB leaks. When's the last time you cleared caches, factory reset, etc?

Did that last night and also fixed permissions to no avail. Is the kj1 modem causing the issue?

Good question; I'm not 100% sure. I'm wanting to say a lot of people went back to KJ1 from KJ6 due to the inability to send large SMS messages. Though I can't say if any of them are using wifi calling & having the low volume issue. Have you tried just flashing another modem to see if it makes a difference?

I've always had this problem, though I haven't used KJ6 for more than a day...
As you've said, the long text issue was annoying, and it also wouldnt let me send pics.

I use kj6 with Kj1 kernel... wifi calling has no issues for me. I use it for 100% of calls at home as I have no cell coverage here.
Edit: just a note.... I haven't had this issue since early gb roms.

The reason I flashed the kj1 modem was cos of the long sms messages not sending. So I guess I'll need to call t-mobile and see what they say about this. Thanks guys for tour help.
PS: will also flash a different modem and test that out in the meantime.

Okay I flashed the kj5 modem and although the volume is still low, it's significantly a little louder than before. Upon adjusting the volume, it only lets me go no higher than the mid point as opposed to the lowest audible setting only on the kj1 modem. This is really baffling, and of-course when I call t-mo, they'll treat me like I don't have a clue about what I'm talking about. I'll continue to test this and report any other findings. Thanks guys.

Bali is only currently out with version 3.2, must've been a posting mistake.
Anyway, do a full factory restore and see if that works.
If not, ODIN back to KD1.
If you don't want to lose your Apps or Data (contacts, bookmarks, etc) use TitaniumBackup.
You can also ODIN Gingerbread KF2, which has proven to be very stable (little to no bugs) for me and many other users.
Finally, did you ever calibrate your battery when switching FW versions? It sometimes helps.
My bad 3.2bali uv. Told yall i was half asleep typing this. Lol. I really think my battery is culprit. But i did factory reset and went to kd1 deodex then back to black ice. Same issue. Uninstalled now im tryg trigger. And i thk if i do 3.2uv again i will disable lagfix. But my phone reboots every 5mins or while even downloading roms when on black ice & 3.2. Aarrgghhh. So we shall see. So far on trigger for 2 hours and no reboots. Maybe gm bootloaders effed up my compatibility with bali 3.2uv? Thanks guys. Or maybe tegrak is culprit?

Official KG6 Gingerbread bugs thread

I don't believe KG6 is the final OTA because I already found these bugs with it:
- Wifi range still shows weak
- Wifi calling still has audio and range problem
- Randomly loses data connection
- Randomly loses signal
If you have issues with this build as well, please post.
On KG6.
I've also had problems with incoming calls. Getting FC's after 1 ring then it goes to voicemail. Dialing out works fine though.
Can also confirm losing signal, I have to do a phone reboot because the phone gets stuck in airplane mode.
Good stuff.

Only with headphones that have a microphone, like the ones provided with the phone. With regular headphones the phone should utilize the phones microphone.
The only issues I am having so far is with low wifi. I had the issue with incoming calls crashing after first ring with kg4 but not with kg6. Only difference is with kg4 I did an advance data restore.

CM7/MIUI low microphone gain permanent fix/solution

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has found any solution to overcome the CM7/MIUI low microphone gain issue during voice calls?
The other party on the line barely can hear me during voice calls.
Have searched a lot and haven't found any fix except for the hit mute/unmute during call to temporary (only applies to that call) fix the problem.
Is there any other solution, like replacing system audio driver files from stock/other ROM to fix the low microphone gain issue permanently (well, at least till the next flashing)?
Never had any issue on stock Froyo or Gingerbread. However, not intent to return to stock due to this issue.
I'm on the July 15 baseband with Wind mobile in Canada. Currently using MIUI 2.3.2 with Faux123 048 kernel. Tried stock CM7, Trinity kernels, no go.
My wife has the same phone/system, however she is still on the June baseband. Same low Mic issue applies to hers as well.
Any input is greatly appreciated!

I would love for something as well, this issue seems to be out there for some others phones as well on CM7, i believe their intentions were to reduce background noise. Either way, if anyone steps in that'd be great. I have searched through build props, and system folders looking for anything that says "mic" I got nothing lol. If anyone has any thing they think I should search through I have time today so give me any ideas.

Couldn't agree more! I found as well that it has something to do with CM7's reduced microphone gain values to prevent voice distortion. Read about library file libaudio.so might as well "involved".
It is not that significant, however I'm using the phone frequently for voice calls and always mute/unmute is a little annoying.
I customized, fine tuned everything else to my needs and if this thing would finally get sorted as well i could lay back and fully enjoy my device (kidding, still would messing around with flashing around).

Exactly my thoughts, that's my only true complaint about CM7. People don't seem to realize it though I don't know if they are the type that always talk loud or what lol... but I definitely noticed and know its true cause I restored my 2.2 left my self a voicemail & recorded with voice record... and then went CM7 and left a voicemail and voice recording and it was crazy different playing through speakers and through earpiece. So I don't know what else to do....

yup, I tried GetRIL and tried all the different RILs (rebooting after installing each) and no difference. It's definitely something in the CM code. Somehow it doesnt react well with this phone's mic setup.
hope it gets fixed cause i'm never going back to stock.... soooo slow

Part of this problem is the ROM and part of it is the kernel. CyanogenMod had this really bad at one point and they fixed it a little with a kernel tweak and then improved it a little more with a change in some of the audio drivers. So, it is hard to get it right. I have not really ever had this problem and I have been running MIUI GB based with the Trinity Kernel by Morfic (if that helps anyone).
Ya all of what I presumed it seems to be a hit or miss but it isn't just the g2x, which made me believe that it really is an issue even though people don't have it. I don't talk loud on the phone but maybe I need to start lol... either way willing to deal with it... p.s. I had the issue on all miui roms all kernels no matter what I tried.

[cwm][modem]kd1/kj2 port from sidekick 4G

This is a modem from the Sidekick 4G. It has the same radio as our phone so it is safe to use. I have been using it for the last day and have experienced better performance, more signal stability, and less reboots.
Current known issues: none
Current known fixes: fixes text send error for messages larger than 160 characters
Fixes wifi speed issues in some Roms
Reported better signal for some people
Flash instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/Flashing_a_modem
This is experimental. I am not responsible if you break your phone, etc. If it doesn't work for you, it's not hard to flash back to our modem. This will not brick your phone unless you do something stupid. I am not here to teach you how to flash. Read the wiki.
There are two modems here, KJ2 and KD1. Try them both and see what works best for you. KD1 worked better for me. KJ2 was finicky with data.
I hope this helps!!!

Kd1 connects to play store without issue, I'm running vb-final

Kj2 Seems fine. Definitely more stable connection, and ping response times on speed test are way better, averaging around 60ms. GPS works, play store works, correct time is shown, etc etc. Will continue to test and keep posted on the reboot issue.

Guys, just a tip.
Flashing modems through cwm is "DANGEROUS".
Suppose you have t959v kj6 modem, and you have wifi on, and then you flash t839ukv kj2.
You may go into a soft bootloop. (Turn on, 15 seconds later, soft reboot, turn on...etc)
This is solvable by reflashing your old modem.
In order to avoid this error TURN "OFF" WiFi BEFORE FLASHING.

Never thought about the potential issue with flashing a modem before. I hadn't had any issues, but I'm never on wifi...this is useful to know!
I'm pretty sure I had my wifi on and I can turn it on and off just fine.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
Turning on and off isn't the problem. Once you are on the new modem for more than 5 minutes, there is no problem.
Just don't flash while it is on.
I have experience

Also it is just a possibility. Maybe it might have to do with wifi calling idk. That's just my suggestion.

I flashed with wifi-enabled, and it didn't cause any problems. So far I've gone 10 hours without a reboot. The only problem I've had is it's a little slower connecting to mobile data in low signal areas.
Im using the kj2 modem and I'm now getting anywhere from 1-3 bars consistently with no negative battery drain! Thanks for this find!
Also, no 160 character text failing to send errors

Random Signal Drops?

I get random signal drops on the stock T-Mobile 2.3.4 rom. I have updated to the March Baseband using the LG updater tool. I just got this phone 2 days ago and I was wondering if there are any fixes for this?
Sometimes I jump from 4g > 2g.
Sometimes I jump from 4 bars > No signal.
These both happen even if I'm not moving.

See if you can bring yourself back to the July baseband. You may have to go without 2.3.4, but you could get yourself a better functioning phone instead. Lol.
Once on that, maybe try a stock 2.3.3, OR a custom rom.
I'd suggest flashing cwm and trying qwes 2.3.4 .. then use titanium backup to freeze the bloat or remove it. Prolly wont help, but its worth a shot before downgrading the BB.
I had hella issues with 2.3.3 which led me to xboarders modified stock without bloat and most of my issues went away...
Then I went to cm7 and had no issues at all. (Unfortunately the new bb doesn't work with cm yet)

The only time I have had that issue was with arcee's selfkangs of ics/CM9. But once I switched to aokp, I didn't have any issues with signal dropping.
This phone was a **** show for T-Mobile and LG. To be honest with you, the phone functions way better with custom roms. Cm7 with faux kernel (stock voltage) and I didn't have an issue.
The quality control on these phones was prolly crap. You may have to play the mix and match game with roms and kernels.

Try Hellfire Phoenix.
I know you said you don't want to do custom ROMs, and I'm guessing you'd rather avoid rooting (since you said it wasn't currently rooted), but honestly...you're not going to have a good experience w/your G2X unless you do.
I bought my G2X, when they first came out, and haven't been happy with any of the Tmo/LG updates/releases. Including the 2.3.4. I have noticed better GPS lock w/the 2.3.4 release, but I'm also getting random signal drops, and having issues with wifi calling...even on kwes ROM. (I should mention that kwes 2.3.4 is far more stable than the LG release)
The best experience I had, was with WeaponG2X (2.3.3/July bb). It was stable as hell, and had lots of nice extras. I may end up going back to that. However, I have also noticed, through my years w/Tmo, that I will get signal drops off and on for awhile, then they stop. So, it could be that Tmo is messing with their towers or equipment, and it's not actually our phones. If my issues persist, I may give up the better GPS lock, and go back to Weapon & the older bb. For now, I'm going to wait it out a bit.
Good luck w/your G2X.

I know you said you don't want to do custom ROMs, and I'm guessing you'd rather avoid rooting (since you said it wasn't currently rooted), but honestly...you're not going to have a good experience w/your G2X unless you do.

Well, I really don't want to flash any custom roms unless it's ICS. I have AOKP on my Hp Touchpad and I love it; however, on all ICS builds the camera isn't working (namely AOKP, which is the rom of my choice). Since the camera isn't working on CM9/ICS builds I won't flash them since I use the camera regularly.
Now about CWM, I just flashed using NVFlash the experimental touchscreen version and I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick. I'm now in the process of removing tmobile bloatware (ex. WIFI Calling, Mobile apps, etc).
Anyway, I'll report back with the results.

What's your battery life like on AOKP?

Don't think so.
Does this happen while on wifi?
Does it actually prevent you from using the phone.?

Yes this does happen to me on WIFI, the service drops out and I'll miss important phone calls. It does not however prevent me from using the phone
What bloatware can I uninstall without any worries, so far I've only froze them all.

I just got this phone.. I'm not made of money.
The July baseband did the samething as well. That's why I even upgraded the baseband, to see if it'll fix the issue. I'll root and remove the bloatware myself. I don't want to install a custom rom yet.. Is this an issue with all G2Xs?

Post your results. In my experience this is as clean a phone can get.

What's your battery life like on aokp

I leave for work about 130 and when I get off at 11 I would have about 60 to 65% battery left. On breaks and lunch I use the piss outta the phone.
With 2.3.3 I would get about 7 hours and it would die..
With 2.3.4 I have about 50% left at the end of work.
I can't wait till the new baseband is compadible with aokp, I've got really high expections for the battery life.
With cm9 kangs (i hate to even call aokp a kang, but it is in the name) the free app videocam illusion ( I think that's the name) allows video recording but the quality isn't best, but it works. The native camera apps will take pics, but forces closes on video.
Id run aokp see how that does. Then if its all good, try fauxs kernals. Keep in mind before flashing a kernal, backup ur rom. Just in case fauxs kernal has issue.. ( I can run faux kernals with stock voltage, when I do the undervolt, I have issues... some phones can handle it, others can't).
Hope my rambling helps.

Deleting bloatware on stock kernal didn't help, so I switched to AOKP. So now I'm testing that out to see if I still get the random signal drops. If a custom rom doesn't help I'm going to try a new SIM card, maybe the one I'm using sucks.

You convinced me, I gave in to AOKP. And it's freaking awesome, on par with my hp touchpad. I don't care about video recording, I just really wanted to keep the awesome pictures this phone takes and I did.
What's the benefit of fauxs kernal?

From my experience, faux kernals make the phone a bit quicker. Also with his kernals, when my phones asleep, (screen off) battery life is majorly improved.
