Anything Hellraised should be OK.
Anything based on the AT&T leaks - beware.
I would think only stock (or mostly stock) AT&T ROM's would have CIQ. Ported I9000 ROM's, CM7/MIUI and Rogers ROM's are most likely clean.
Thanks. It's too bad I've preferred the ATT based ROMs so far.
when i saw the video on carrier iq i went through my phone trying to find evidence of it on my phone running cm7. it appears to be clean unless its running at some sort of linux level. not sure about what the phone is actually logging to internal/unshared logs though.
CM7 is ALWAYS CIQ-free.
The original Rogers UXKG3 release had CIQ but it was one of the first things gtg removed in Infused 2.x - Rogers CIQ was far less invasive than other CIQ implementations.
Froyo AT&T ROMs seem fine.
Gingerbread AT&T leaks for Infuse seem to be bad news.
I've been seeing people Hellraising what appear to be Captivate AT&T leaks - these could have CIQ.
For those wondering how to check if their ROM has CarrierIQ:

This is some good information. Thanks guys!
Fwiw, I just removed my Ciq and my handset seems snappier. Rooted stock froyo.

Oh, I thought Froyo didn't have it... I haven't run Froyo in so long I don't even remember...
Anyone know of a better way to remove it from the new gingerbread leaks?
My custom UCKJ4 rom tested positive for CIQ using TrevE's log testing app. Without hoping for much, I used the removal feature which results in a boot-loop.
I started picking at framework.jar and framework-res.apk to no avail. Specifically, I removed the folder com/CarrierIQ from framework.jar and removed the CarrierIQ calls and permissions from AndroidManifest.xml in framework-res.apk.
I might be having trouble maintaining correct syntax in the xml, but honestly I think it's a signing issue with the apk. I have tried copying the original META-INF folder into the root of the apk, I have tried signing the apk. I have tried isolating it to one file or the other, but each attempt results in an animation loop. In theming the framework, I have typically always had to copy the original AndroidManifest.xml along with the META-INF to maintain the signature.
I can provide logcat if anyone actually wants to look.
In recompiling framework.jar you have to make sure you copy the updated classes.dex file into the recompiled jar

Thanks, I had forgotten about the signature of the .jar as well. However, I am confused by the language you have used. Isn't the updated classes.dex from my recompiled jar? Do you mean to put the resulting classes.dex into the stock deodexed framework.jar?
I appreciate your pointers.

I did too. It seems it works on Froyo but not on the AT&T Gingerbread leaks. I still haven't been able to get the CIQ removed without a significant amount of force closes, but I'll be trying again today.

This quote is from AdamOutler's Google+ regarding CIQ
Its fragments of code scattered across the entire kernel. Its compiled into the kernel and runs undetected as a root kit. The logging is so deeply integrated that by removing files which contain CIQ, your device would not boot. It would take weeks of programming to remove it, then you compile a new kernel and install it on your device... then your apps would start failing.... yep, its in your email, browser, and other parts... its called a root kit because it runs undetected and causes undesired activity.

So don't be surprised that it's not an easy fix.

Market
Thanks for posting the files and instructions. This is awesome.
I noticed (accidentally) that some items are missing from the Market after performing this modification. I do not use any of the missing items, but I thought I'd let you know.
I was searching for a weather app, and MyCast does not come up. Pure Calendar is also missing. I only noticed because I usually see them there when searching, so I am not sure of any others. I also tried searching for the 2 apps by name, and they were missing.
I apologize in advance if this is a situation that is only applicable to myself and/or if this is the wrong place to post potential bugs.
you will need to edit the build.prop as the r2-d2 is not yet released.

* update - clean rom, will try pushing the apk from full rom in the am.
Can't get swype to work. Doesn't even show up as an option. Did I do something wrong? If not is there a way to get it back up and running?
* fixed - thank you motaboy for the quick response. Simply pulled apk from full rom, then installed through app manager on astro. So far it is working, no need for a root file manager at least for me.

Are you using the Full or Clean ROM?
If clean it is not in there. Open the Full ROM Zip file, go into the system/app folder, copy skype to your SD card on phone, use root explorer or a browser that can browse the system folder to copy the skype.apk to system/app on phone. Give it the proper permissions, and you should be set if you are running the clean rom. If not then it should be under keyboards in settings. You may need to enalbe it from there.

I'll post this in pretty basic terms for ease of reading.
A kernel in general terms is what makes the phone run. It's the nuts and bolts. In linux you have different kernels and they all provide certain features. ROM's run on the kernel and provide the screens if you will, the features of the phone. Kinda like your computer's operating system.
Modems/Radios are firmware that control the baseband radio chipsets on your phone device to communicate to the data network for your carrier. You connection to your carrier. Specific to your phone and carrier.
When you have an odexed system you basically have apk's and odex files inside of your file system. The idea behind it is that odex files load up on boot to help speed up loading the APK's. However, it makes it hard to modify the system APK's since it loads parts from odex and parts from the APK.
Deodexing is basically repackaging the APK's and odex files so that they are reassembled and therefore making sure the application package is back in once piece.
This allows the ability to make theming modifications (battery, clock color etc.) without conflict, knowing that the application package is back together.
There are no ROM's per se yet for the SGS4G there is the Bali Kernel which adds some great enhancements made by Dr Honk, see it in the SGS4G android development forum.
There are also SGS4G deodexed kernels such as VUVKD1 DEODEXED from Krylon360 or Whitehawkx, also in the Android Development forum. These builds of the kernel provide the ability for theming, with Whitehawkx build you have the ability to do custom lock screens, there is a mod for supporting custom boot animations etc.
Hopefully this helps you understand more

ok, so Krylon360 is working on CWM for the SGS4G and (at some point) talks about using KD1, so how can I go about flashing KD1 to my phone without using a windows PC (i have a mac)?
Sorry for noob question. I've been studying hard lately and with all the recent developments it had been overwhelming. Anyway.
I have been trying to download the modded recovery binary needed for CWM 3.0 directly to my phone using the multiupload link provided by Krylon360.
When I try to download it on my phone I get cannot download content not supported on my phone. Am I doing something wrong that I can't download straight to my phone? Do I need to check to a box somewhere?
Do I have to download the recovery binary and CWM to a computer first and then to my phone?
Is there a way I can do this with just my phone? I have Root explorer pro, super manager, file explorer, ect...I was really hoping to do it using my phone because I don't have full time access to a pc.
Thank you very much for taking the time to reply.

Dose this work for 4G as well??
Thanks in advance!
Been waiting for this hack. Does not take, keeps it Sprint Hotspot . Running ACS ICS v3.5 EI22. Tried NoCIQ version.
EDIT: Was reading in the OP about a CWRecovery bug and may need to flash. Haven't tried it yet but it came up wireless hotspot and feel pretty sure about it. I didn't have this problem having to reflash it before, but now I am using ACS Recovery. Thank you so much for getting right on top of this cause it a hack I use a lot. Unless someone has made a very recent breakthrough, limitations of the CWM flash procedure prevent the zip from doing the modifications necessary (unpacking an apk) to modify the existing files, so a complete overwrite (replacement) is the only option. Without the breakthrough mentioned above, this will always be the case

You lived up to your user name
He didn't ask a yes or no question, it was option A (modify) or option B (replace)...
But I'm just teasing you for a minor oversight

removed
was a different zip causing my problem.
Thought it was my rom but it seems after flashing this (mod works btw) my system updates under setting causes fc if I try to even go into it. Meaning I can't go in to update profile or prl anymore.

Do we need to keep the DialerTabActivity.apk?
The dialer I am currently using matches the rest of my theme, so I'd like to delete the DialerTabActivity.apk from the zip file before flashing with CWM. Will removing it break the functionality of the hotspot hack?
EDIT:
Installed the zip file with the DialerTabActivity.apk removed and seems to have installed correctly.

You are missing some system files like sprintandroidextension.apk and sprint_app_updater.apk. I think there is another devicemanagement.apk maybe.

lovin' it!!!
Just wanted to say thanks! I haven't had to use this feature till now. My roadrunner internet service is down so I put this into action and it works beautifully. It's just as fast as roadrunner turbo (maybe a itty bitty smidge slower ) and it's a solid connection. Calling up roadrunner tomorrow to tell them to kick rocks. I'm so thrilled about this. Having that extra $30 a month from not having to pay for internet service is really gonna help me out. I am so very thankful for this and the fact that it's not illegal to do this makes it even better. All you devs ROCK!!!! Thanks!
Actually hotspot is a paid service of Sprint's. So technically by using a hack to bypass payment it is theft of services which is illegal.

Flashed NOIQ version, soft bootloop. Running Marcusant's Revival v1. Removed DialerTabActivity.apk, flashed again. Still bootloop. Going to reflash rom without wiping, but any ideas meanwhile?

Isn't hotspot included in Macusant's ROM?

Yeah but it's broken. Wifi tether works but stock hotspot seems to run better overall. If it helps the noiq zip did rename it.
Back to where I was with broken hotspot but working everything else
ACTUALLY now hotspot works. Didn't before, after these shenanigans it does.
Hi everyone. I've been reading around xda for quite a while and would first like to say thanks to all the great devs and others on here who have really helped to make the infuse an even better phone. Ok so this is my first post so I hope I have the right section. My question: is it possible to pull the sgs2 wallpaper pack from gtg's Infused rom? I've searched everywhere and can't find a wallpaper pack like it. I'm trying to complete my sgs2 look on my infuse with CM7 and wizmod2 theme. Thanks for any help!

Try searching for the wallpapers in the rom zip. Normal locations are the framework apk if its just one. Or a separate folder in the ROM if they are multiple.

Thanks dman . I didn't realize you could pull files and even apps from other rom zips. This is awesome. Looks like I've got some more tinkering to do.
Edit: also, just wanted to thank you dman for all your hard work as a dev

Yes, but only selective apps. You may, but should be careful with the android build version. Some apps are compiled from sources, and those might not be compatible when taken from one ROM to another. But others, like add on apps, can be taken.

You can use tw4.5 which is a modded version for any phone but I've found it to be buggy. there is also a framework mod that can be done to get it all working. I'm actually gonna play with that tonight.

Dani, I actually am looking into that framework mod at the moment but I'm still a noob at all this so reading up on decompiling the framework jar. Let me know if you have any luck man cuz I'd really like to get this working. Thanks

I think the tree structure within framework.jar is a bit different but it may still work, I still haven't tested it, I got distracted. you can use apk tool or smali to decompile it, baksmali or apk tool to compiled it.
I don't mess with apk manager because it tries to do to much for you and isn't really useful because the apps don't usually work when you are done, you wind up having to pull files from the Finnished apk and dropping them in a copy of the original because the signing doesn't work with system apps.
I have searched xda over and cannot find where to download a couple of apk files. I've seen people mention them in places but no where to download. So I have an idea floating around in my head and need two apks to see if I can make it work... needed are...
1. Stock touchwiz apk for android 2.3.5 that was on the skyrocket out of the box.
2. Gallery3d apk that also came stock on the 2.3.5 out of the box.
If anyone has these or knows where I can download them from either upload or send me a link.
If I can get my idea to work I will then post it and give some kudos to whoever helps with these files...

Haha, good luck!
what im trying to do id get the issue with the wallpaper resizing fixed for those who dont want to install a custom rom. my idea is it worked fine on 2.3.5 so i just have to figure out what the difference is in the code and whether its a gallary problem or a touchwiz problem or a little of both. ive tried every launcher on the market so im hoping the problem is the gallary and i can take the apk from 2.3.5 and drop it in the system app root folder and it work. if that dont work ill have to start looking into the code and see if there is a difference. its all wrote in java so i know java from my computer programing days... but there has got to be a way to make it work....

Those apk's are stock, not deodexed. So if you are planning on dropping them in a custom rom, I think you will have to deodex them. Or I can upload the deodexed versions if you need them.

I'm running ucle2 and can't resize wallpaper other than cwm recovery and rooted and debloated I am stock. So do you think they need to be deodexed for stock ucle2? I'm not installing the touchwiz as a matter of fact I hope I don't need it but if I do it will just be to look at the code and see how it differs from ucle2 touchwiz if any at all. I'm hoping I can drop the apk and odex file in the root system app folder replacing the ucle2 with the 2.3.5 gallery and I'm hoping it run it and I can once again resize wallpaper and have ucle2. I like to have my cake and eat it too...

no, if you're stock you don't want deodex, so you're good. No idea if it will work, though. Lol
I'm guessing there's more to it than just switching out a couple apk's. I dunno

Kinda yea. Didn't know there was a forum for it already. My hope is that it will work without any changing code you know keep it simple until simple don't work... I noticed last night that both 2.3.5 and ucle2 both use the same touchwiz30 so maybe I'll get away with simple....
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Well of course simple hasn't worked so now I'm about to check code.. oh what fun. When I drop the 2.3.5 apk in the system app folder it opens for a short few seconds and force closes. I've tried fix permissions and of course wiped cache and dalvick cache so its close to working but close just isn't good enough... but I have not gave up yet. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated....
