Mod: can you please help me change the title to "[APP][1.6+] ICS Keyboard - IceCream Sandwich Keyboard"? Thanks
(The original thread was closed because of improper tags on the title, here it is again correctly tagged)
I have ported the IceCream Sandwich keyboard to work with most of the android devices. No root required, it will require 2.2 or higher to use speech recognition.

ICS Keyboard is the best port of IceCream Sandwich Keyboard on the market!
ICS Keyboard - The keyboard from Android 4.0 IceCream Sandwich
This is the keyboard from Android 4.0 (codename ice cream sandwich). I back ported it to work with all android deivces 1.6 and up. Everything is working except Speech Recognition will require android 2.2 or higher.
This essentially the same IceCream Keyboard you will find in Android 4.0 but I made a few minor adjustments to it to make it work a little better. It's also a better version than some other similar IceCream Sandwich Keyboards you will find on the market, such as the port created by johntanmi or NICK ZHANG.
It's even better than the standard IceCream Sandwich keyboard:
- Compatible with most android devices
- Features that are incompatible with older phones were removed to make the keyboard faster
- Bigger Keys!
- Reduced app size by exporting non-English languages as separate downloads
- More user friendly
Enjoy!
Tips:
- Long press "Enter" key to bring up smiley alternatives
- Long press on "/" key in URL mode to bring up domains
Please report your bugs via email . If you report bugs in a Market comment I CAN'T help you.
Supported languages layout: English, French , Hebrew, Arabic, German, Czech, Bulgarian, Catalan, Spanish, Esperanto, Danish, Italian, Finnish, Georgian, Russian, Ukrainian, Latvian, Swedish,Latin, Dutch, Portuguese, Slovakian, Slovenian, Greek,Serbian, Hungarian, Swiss
Included dictionaries:
English,French,Italian,German,Spanish.

Reserved for changelogs:
v1.1 'I' will now be auto capitalized for English
v1.2 Keyboard height fix for low-res devices
v1.3 Keyboard layout fixes, vibration duration now works
v1.4 Mini keyboard popup bug fixes, capitalization bug also fixed
v1.4.1 Fixed broken link in app sharing

Great! I've been using this keyboard here and there and loving it. It certainly is one of the best ICS keyboards out there.
However, is it REALLY necessary for the full Internet permissions? I know I'm not the only one who has been weary of this. I manually revoked it but ended up with a force close loop.
EDIT :
It's also a better version than some other similar IceCream Sandwich Keyboards you will find on the market, such as the port created by johntanmi or NICK ZHANG.

What exactly are you basing these claims on?
My android device is a Rooted Nook Touch and I've been trying many, many, many different keyboards to find something that has text recognition and spell check. I'm very excited that your keyboard works very nicely with the Nook. I have two suggestions for future updates. Please consider adding direction keys to the keyboard and please make it possible to make the keyboard smaller and have more text area available. Once again GREAT JOB!!
Could you add polish dictionary? So far this is the best (maybe you could import it or sth) https://market.android.com/details?...ucHV0bWV0aG9kLmxhdGluLmxhbmd1YWdlcGFjay5wbCJd
Thx.
My keypress sounds in this keyboard are extremely quiet, but are normal when using other ICS and non-ICS keyboards. Can anyone please confirm if this is not an isolated case?
I just gave this keyboard another try on a new phone since my last use and I really like it still (esp. with the lower memory footprint compared to the other ICS keyboards).
But again I still don't like the fact that it has full internet access (which you've mentioned is for checking updates). Now it's been a month since the last update, I hope you'll reconsider having that bit of code in there running everyday on everyone's devices (even if it's just at startup), taking up RAM and resources, and leaving some doubt in users minds. Eventually after development stops for it, the update code & internet access will still be there on everyone's phones.
The Android market does a really good job of updating apps already, so there's really no need to re-invent the wheel on this. If it weren't for the full internet access, I'd include it in the CM7 ROM I build for others by default, and would promote it a lot more too.
BTW the update check also drains battery on a portable device everytime it's started up, Android OS kills apps automatically when memory is low, so when it does and the keyboard restarts, it will drain a bit more using 3G data to check for updates. It's these kinds of practices in apps that add up for short battery life on most Android phones.
More languages
I would also like more downloadable language packs. I see that the other ICS keyboards do offer dutch, for example.
About those ICS keyboard ports. I don't think it will support the new enhanced spell checking of the current ICS keyboard. The spell checker is relying on 4.0 APIs and not on a portable library like in the "old" keyboards.
Can the OP confirm this?
excellent!"!!! i was searching that

Doesn't support swipe gesture??
thank you..
Could you possibly allow the key sizes to be changed? I use this on my rooted Nook Simple Touch, and it takes up half the screen, making it a pain to reach to the center of a 7" (something like that) screen.
Don't know if you're still supporting this app, but I was wondering if you could add more themes.
Thanks, and great app btw!
Is there any way to import a greek dictionary and where can I find it? Thanks
could you make an option to change smiley key into enter while on mms app?

Is there any dictionary? I mean polish dictionary?
almost same as smart keyboard
Downloaded and trying it out. Looks good so far. Layout of the T9 keyboard is a bit unusual, with the 0 beside the 1.
I use smart keyboard pro but will give this a go
Bug Report
In the T9 keyboard and with the T9 dictionary off, there's no way to capitalize the later chars (e.g. B and C, E and F, etc.) You can only capitalize the first letters on each key (A, D, G, etc.)
I uploaded a new version to the market. version 1.0.3
Fix FC when "Logic Symbols Keyboard" is installed on the device.
Fixed "No fullscreen in landscape" option.
Hi from the screen shot I can tell that its looking perfect. do you have any plans for adding Persian layout?
Do you have a plan to add Turkish support?
Hi, what about special support for hardware keyboards?
What would be the main useful feature? Definitely multiple pressing of the same key could show different accented characters for that key; usual way of selecting accented character from the on screen list is not sufficient if you want to write quickly...

Yes, I will add.
Hi,
may you help me to find the equal signal? (aka '=')
Regards.
press "123?" to move to symbols and press alt.
Going to try this out. It's hard to find a good replacement for the HTC IME T9 keyboard... this one looks promising so far though! Thanks!
Edit: one question so far: how do you add custom words? I don't see a way to do it when in T9 mode. I know the HTC keyboard had a dropdown and you could select "Add word" and it would add it to the dictionary. Is there a way to do this?

Congratulations for the great application, but a Tablet optimized version would be awesome too. I'm using this on my Galaxy Tab and the keys looks blurry because of the screen resolution.
Thanks very much for the great application (again)

Great job, and the voice input works on this one!
A few common problems I've noticed with other ports:
1) Does the bottom row show completely on MDPI devices?
2) Locking caps lock, then pressing shift again doesn't toggle it to lower case, but typing produces lower case letters.
3) Space bar doesn't have a key preview, so when typing the feedback is broken when space doesn't popup preview when other keys do. (A Google problem, but still would be nice to get fixed).
Looks and works awesome thanks for this. only one thing smilies is not working for me otherwise definitely a better keyboard than others on the market .

I have LG Optimus V, tried Johntanmi's & Nick Zhang's (at least latest version as of today), both cut off bottom space bar row in portrait mode, this one shows whole keyboard.
The update fixed the bottom bar on my desire. Thank you. Love the keyboard.
Tried version 1.2 of this keyboard and it beats all the others I've tried (johntami, nick zhang, binary bulge).
- Works on my LG Optimus V's screen (no half cut off space bar row)
- Caps-lock on & off bug free
- Supports themes
- Auto capitalizes 'i'
- Low memory footprint (6.4 MB service vs 18 MB for other ICS KBs)
- It has an app icon!
Just one minor thing I noticed, the stone themes are a bit too spaced out vertically and gets cut off at the bottom. Keep up the good work!
There's no donate or paid version of this, what's the catch? ad-supported? sharing private info? Noticed that compared to other ICS keyboards, this one requires permission:
Network communication
full Internet access
Allows an application to create network sockets.
What is that for?

Internet access is for the new version check and notification. When you open the app, the app will detects and notify you if your current version is outdated.
It won't send any personal information to anywhere.

Thanks for the quick response, I think it'd be less suspicious to drop that feature & permission request. Probably would speed up loading the app & use less memory too. Android Market already handles notifiying & updates and the user can control all of that at one place, including allowing background data.
vllwp, thanks for this port! Just noticed a few quirks:
1) I have sound on keypress enabled, and for some reason it sounds more quiet than every other keyboard I have (including the other ICS keyboards).
2) When I long press the smiley button, it selects whatever is on the upper left of where my finger actually is. So, it is currently not possible for me to select any of the 3 rightmost smileys which are :'( :-$ and . By the way, I find these smileys very ugly. Is there a way we can edit the selection?

The paid version allows you to apply keyboard skins. The free version doesn't.
Love this keyboard. An issue to report: if volume as cursor is checked, the volume never releases from the keyboard and it disables a visable volume change for ring volume. This is on an evo 4g with cm7.

Hey
I really like this keyboard. its the only one which has come close to filling the void left by htc ime mod keyboard not working on ICS.
However, im having the same problem as the user above. I cant seem to add words to the dictionary whilst typing. For example. im simply trying to add the work 'ok' (english - english dictionary) as i dont want it to always come up with 'okay'
However, when i write 'ok' manually, it doesnt ever show it in the suggestions bar, it still has all the normal suggestions i would see when using predictive text
Am i doing something wrong? Have i got a setting wrong?
-----------------------------
Right - i figured it out. Its because i was turning off XT9 when typing a non-dictionary word. It works if i keep it on and long press keys
so...the next suggestion Is it possible to have the word in the editor change to what it thinks the word is whilst your typing, instead of when you click space or punctuation?
Good keys, and i like using it!
I'm finding that it's not suggesting words that are in my dictionary. they are there for around an hour after I add them but when I go back to use the keyboard later it doesn't suggest those words again. I look at the dictionary in the settings and those words are definitely still in there
Any idea why this is happening?

Have you ever been annoyed with extra options in a QR code reader when you just want it to scan QR and show the result? This was the reason why I started to develop my own light and clear QR reader - Obsqr.
Obsqr features in a nutshell:
can scan QR codes of the following types: URL, e-mail, geolocation, Android Market link, phone number, sms, contact information and plain text.
open-source ( find the sources here - https://bitbucket.org/trikita/obsqr )
is based on the zbar lib
ad-free
can be ran on x86 Android devices
English, Russian, Swedish, Dutch, Portuguese, Italian, German and Turkish localization. If you can speak other languages and would like to help with the translation - let me know!
Obsqr on Android Market: https://market.android.com/details?id=trikita.obsqr
Feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions on this app!
NEW It's been a while since we last updated this app. Now after a big refactoring a new update is coming. You will notice new almost-Material design and some other changes, and of course new bugs. So if you would like to become a beta-tester - please, join the Trikita community https://plus.google.com/communities/103557309699012391832 and follow this link: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/trikita.obsqr
After we ensure that v2.6 is stable enough - we will publish that one and will work on QRs with mixed content (e.g. text containing URLs or emails) making Obsqr better than ever!

Very good app, congrats!
Why it stretch the camera?
Thanks for information!
On my device it's hard to notice. Suppose, a camera and screen ratio are very different on your device.
I think I should crop the photo image to fit a screen ratio in the future versions.
I've fixed ratio problem. Now it doesn't stretch camera preview (since release version 2.3).

Thanks for this. It's nice to find an application that just does what it's meant to without lots of unneeded options.
Hey,
for me apps like QRDroid where bound to my search Button on my phone..
But your app does not show up on that App list wenn i hold the Search Button, could you add that feature
Nethertheless this is by far the best QR Code scanner i've been using I hate how all the others are bloated with features no one wants
It is a pleasant surprise to have an app that doesn't require a shopping list of permissions to perform a simple task.
I am a fan before I even finished the install.
Fantastic work, my friend! I get all happy inside when I come across simple minimalistic apps that can do what they're intended to do AND do it better than other bloated ones.
There has to be a way to implement this into the main main AOSP camera app. IMO functionality like that has been missing for quite some time. Maybe you can contact and work with whoever develops camera mods for the Cyanogen team? I dunno...

Hey now it works on my phone with qHD screen. One trivial bug though, when i click to open the link, i get haven't set a default browser, so i get complete action using dialog, if go back from here, i get blank screen.
Thanks for your work.
hi...
i can translate to german
and testing on desire S (different rom's)
Any plans to add WiFi key QR code support? Like Barcode scaner has, thats the only thing missing from the app & thats all thats keeping Barcode scanner installed on my phone. If you added this i don't think i would need any other barcode/QR scanner. So far the app is grate nice & fast clean & simple its just what i was looking for.
I could also translate into german and test it on Nexus S (4.0.4)

very impressed with this keyboard app, switching to it from swype
So far I really like it. As with previous TouchPal releases, I still wish there was a way to add more alternate characters to the main keyboard (accessible by long press), but oh well.
How can I easily select a work for replacement?
As an example, I think it is crazy to switch to an alternate layout to choose a quotation mark ("), then go back to the main layout, type the word/phrase, then switch back again to end the quotation.

How can I blacklist suggested words that I never want? For example, whenever I try to "curve"/swipe lol, I get Loll.
And won't it use RAM of 35MB+

Hi there! Congratulations for your great work
Only one thing is bothering me when i use touchpal keyboard and it is very simple for you to fix it. In Greek language the symbol ";" is exactly the same as the symbol "?" in English and in simple words it is the question mark. When i use the ";" in Greek, touchpal automatically adds a space before it and doesn't add a space after it. Can you make the ";" symbol in Greek language to act exactly like the "?" symbol in English?
Thank you
Even after I disable the auto correction of words... the words still get auto corrected
Can you people please fix it
Also you have any plans of adding hinglish Language support?

Boom! I just bought Swiftkey 20 mins ago...
Looks great, but there is one feature I am missing, that exists in Swype.
"Skip next space" which is used to combine words. This is very common in some languages, for instance german and swedish. In Swype you get this by swiping from space to backspace.
A deal breaker for me, so I guess I'll stay with Swype for now.
Looking forward to updates!
Great to see this. It's really nice. However, I have a half-second lag after swiping longer words like "problema" (Spanish). It looks like the delay is larger in non-English dictionaries. It can be lived with, but I switched back to Swiftkey to test and it has no delay at all.
Also, the swiping isn't good at all in Catalan language.
Also, some of the themes are beautiful! Although it looks like the suggestion bar can't be themed (the lines around the words are not "nice" or "elegant" ).
Anyway, great to see this! Keep it up

Thank you for the feedback. We did a lot of work to improve the performance. It looks like we need to work harder
BTW, we are going to offer theme customization in the next update or the one after.
this keyboard is the best because its ram usage is comparatively low
and SUPER SLEEK looks keep developing
First Keyboard that I try more than one day ! Love it, thanks.
Is there a way to disable the "+" when we don't use the Tweeter plugin ?
It would be nice if every language suported "TouchPal Wave - Sentence gesture", like Serbian for example. Otherwise I don't see why would I switch from swipe to touchpal .
No1 keyboard!!!!!
