Are you asking if the G2X will ever get Honeycomb? The answer is no because Honeycomb is for tablets only.
I do expect to see an Ice Cream Sandwich port towards the end of the year...not from official sources...but we have some really good Devs here...

If you're not grasping this stuff then you need to use the phone stock. It's _YOUR_ phone. _YOU_ take the risks when you choose to root/flash. So _YOU_ better read up and have a decent understanding before setting out on the project. </thread>

I would start Here. Mr. Clown, our moderator, made a nice thread of everything you would need to get started on this quest. Take a look under the Guides | Rooting: (The guides to the basics) topic. There you would find a whole bunch of threads that tells you what to do. As others have said, READ READ READ before you do anything. There is even a video guide too. Goodluck
First thing you need is root and s-off (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352)
Next you need to pick a Gingerbread ROM (CM7, MIUI, Gingerbeast, TPGB, AR HD, Coredroid, Leedroid) the list goes on. You can find them all in the Dev (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1018) section of the Inspire forums. I STRONGLY suggest reading threads in their entirety before jumping into any of these processes. Yes, they're long. Yes, they have a lot of pointless posts. But the important, informative posts that are there along the way make the read worth it, and will leave you with a MUCH better understanding of what it is you're actually doing
And I'll apologize for the people being pricks. It just seems the same questions are asked over and over again, before anyone even takes a look at the forum. It's easy to forget that we were all noobs once, hell, I still consider myself being in the process popping my Android cherry, and my understanding of these things has grown 10 fold since I got my Inspire. We all have learning that still needs to be done, it's unfortunate that some people have to take such an elitist attitude all the time

Honestly, what did you expect? Take a look around you. This isn't "gettingstartedwithandroid.com."
It's like asking "Hey, have you guys ever heard of rooting?"
It's going to be mocked, plain and simple.
As I said i wasn't trying to be mean (or an ass as you so well put), I honestly didn't think this was a serious question.
You kind of left your |OP| kind of vague, you could have been referring to getting your hands on the OTA gingerbread update( a leaked version), or you could of been talking about custom roms (which there are many gingerbread roms). I assumed you were talking about custom roms, which is why I asked if this was a serious question.

Don't apologize. What that guy just did is the digital equivalent of running into a fly fishing shop, knocking over a display and shouting, at the top of your lungs "IS THIS WHERE HOW DO I GO FISHING?!?" It's obnoxious and the people who spend time here actually trying to help people who are trying to help themselves deserve better.
Exactly.
Newbies should:
Search.
Research.
Read.
Reread.
Repeat.
Xda is becoming a mountain of duplicate contents.

I don't think there was any need for anyone to apologize. He can't take a joke then calls people names he deserves what he gets. This site is full of info and if you're to stupid or to lazy to read a little then again you get what you deserve.

God knows I'm not the smartest of my siblings but..... Is Ice Cream Sandwich basically intended to unify the Android community as a whole? As it should be in my humble opinion.... The way I been reading it, Google is even talking to manufacturers and Carriers to keep everyone "in line" if you would, with their build. So 1+1 does equal 3 right? Or am I reading into it? Just curious.....
I think it would be great if indeed this is so..... Porting a great ROM shouldn't be as difficult right? Or am i still reading into it too much?
Plus, I have a Gtab, well the wife does LOL.... And I get to play with HC and i love that UI and supposedly 2.4 will have a similar UI. Or did I read into that as well? Can you imagine the Sensation with a HC LOOK? SICKWITIT! I am a fan of sense 3.0 BTW, I'm just saying that our devs could crosstalk and tweak the **** out of it even more because everyone would have the same goal, literally, in their sights..... Or did i read into it that much more?
So basically just wondering if anyone has the skinny on this. The EVO 3d has a question but no definite answers so I figured I'd ask for our phone as well. Thanks for being patient with me... I get excited LOL. Good night.

I think we might have pissed them off pretty bad.
Yes they created a sub-forum for us.
Just so that we will stop whining.
But I feel it will stop right there.
Devs may not come in to support our device.
They will probably get the devs to boycott our device n never produce anything.
Then they will claim, "We opened a forum as requested but never promised to offer support for it......".
I'm not saying it will happen, but u never know.
Just my thoughts and rambles......

XDA mods do not have control over the devs.
The devs will do whatever they want.
Do not worry my friend....
We have already 2 custom roms in production and 1 chinese custom rom it seems.
The sun shines on I9103....
calm down friends, there is no need to fight against the admins.
IMO :
Even s2 users(Or fan-boys ) hate tegra. I don't know why. I am new here. I don't know what happened before. But we have much other things to do.
just leave them.
don't worry about ROMS.
Now Samsung confirmed ICS & more people will buy this phone.
And, I think that Chinese devs already have 2 ROM( i used google translater). here some devs are trying to do. in the future we will have more...

S II fan-boys hate Galaxy R because:
- they can not accept that there is a device that looks exactly like the S II
- they can not accept that there is a device that does the same as the S II
- they can not accept that we can support Tegra 2 Games NATIVELY (we have a tegra 2 processor) and they have to use a software mod to do that
- they can not accept that our device costs less then theirs
- they can not accept that if we overclock our i9103 to 1.3 Ghz, our device is much faster then a stock SII at 1.2 Ghz
But as you say, ignore the Galaxy R haters.
Our success is the best answer.
Peace!
is there any possibility that ICS rom is ported to INFUSE 4G?

You can't have ice cream until you're done eating yogurt. When you're full, you can have gingerbread. After gingerbread, you can trade it in for a Captivate and put ice cream on it.
Or just buy a phone that is actually supported by samy... Us Infusers are just going to be perpetually left out of the freezer... No sammiches for us
problem around here is the developers never wanted to work with what we have. froyo alone has a ton of potential left in it but with Sammy dangling gb in our faces the devs that made the infuse what it is just got to a point that it was a waiting game and they got tired of waiting. I think the best plan is to work with what we have and make the most out of it. stop jerking around wanting what's not there and just make the most of what is there. froyo on the galaxy s was miles beyond the infuse to the point I was uneasy about upgrading to gb on my cappy.
infuse owners have to realize the infuse has an expiration date. next time get an international flasgship or something closely related to it, that or a nexus where you will have updates for several years coming.

Hey, everyone, I just thought I'd help translate some jargon for the n00bz ... It'd look amateur without it, like a map without a color key, you know?
around here: xda-developers.com, one website and, really, only a little section of it.
froyo: three versions ago in the operating system of topic
jerking around wanting what's not there: asking for current software (...the nerve!!)
sammy: Samsung Electronics Co., or its $220bn parent company Samsung Group (total 2010 revenue)
dangling gb: Samsung's apparent plans to produce, release, and support Android v.2.3, Gingerbread ("gb")
cappy: Samsung Captivate, released July 2010 in U.S.
"froyo ... miles beyond the infuse" : Unintelligible
Okay, I hope I did a good job. Now, if the n00bz keep asking questions, we can do them the service of making our language transparent! Why they won't just get it is astounding... I mean, who would ask questions about new software, anyway?? Just blows my mind... and who could make the mistake of thinking there might be a straight answer about something promising, that is, the new practical features of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android v.4) on a forum dweller's tongue is just plain offensive! Enduring such ignorance is hard, but I suppose it's a must. Live & let live... keep up the tolerance, fellow Infusers.
point taken I guess. what is annoying is the xda moderators have 2 search engines. on is xda wide Google assisted and the other is forum/thread based, not only that but when you create a new thread it suggests threads on similar topics you should read before posting the thread right in your face. yet this will not be the last ics request or "is it available" thread... but I wasn't gonna go there.
as far as ics. it needs a really talented dev to find ways to interface the proprietary stuff from gb to ics. even if we got a bootable version it would possibly be months before it was usable as more than a music player. the galaxy s is very lucky to have a number of talented devs and a closer relationship to the nexus s. even though the rom end could be taken from the galaxy s the kernel would be a big undertaking due to different GPS, Bluetooth, radio, screen, and other componants.
Hm .. lots to think about, there .
Holding these abandoned devices in your hand makes you pine daily for updates on developers' progress toward what would appear to be inevitable. If it isn't, it is a commercial atrocity
By "interface," there, do you mean device emulation or rewritten device drivers? i'm attempting to assess the nature of the challenge, less so its magnitude. i do appreciate both this and the frustration with lazy users.

it could be emulation or I guess some kind of wrapper. like how Linux can use windows wifi drivers on a PC. driver rewrites need source code and/or documentation I would think.
I don't know the technical details but I know entropy has brought up things that have changed that may be hard to port. maybe if the cm9 team actually had an infuse. they have some real talent but the problem is getting it in the hands of an interested member of the team.
we lucked out with Linux bozo but I don't think its typical for a device to get a cm port without the cm team having involvement if the kernel is unique. on many older HTC phones kernels are somewhat cross compatible so those phones are a little more able to share development.
who releases kernels
! Who is responsible for developing/releasing kernels ???
