Hey everyone, I'm new here, as well as the "rooting community."
Well, here's the story. I rooted by HTC Sensation 4G and installed CyanogenMod 7.1 on it. My battery life has been very strange ever since. Sometimes it lasts forever on a single battery percent and then other times it rapidly drops. What causes this?
Also, the file attached is what my battery usage looks like.
(sorry I am restricted to posting the image link)
Why is it like this? Normally (before root), the display is at the top of the list.
Finally, if anyone could give tips (I know this is not the right section, but why make 2 topics?) on extending CyanogenMod's (or a rooted device, in general) battery life. I already have SetCPU profiles.
Thanks!
I had the same problem a few weeks ago. The massive battery drain was caused by a modem I flashed before with a different kernel.

What do you mean by modem?
There are different modems you may flash. Have a look at the android development sections.
Or maybe there are several background processes running.

Hi everyone. After many tries over a couple of weeks, I finally flashed cyanogen onto my Desire HD. Late christmas night none the less.
Instantly I've seen an issue though. It, or at least something, is consuming a lot more of the battery than it should. I have only installed one new lock screen and swype. I also understand it is a knightly build of cyanogen, so im hoping its something that can be fixed after a stable version is released.
To run a quick test, I unplugged last night for it to run without me using it and after 7 hours, it was down to 45%. When running the original sense rom it would consume much much less.
Is there something I can do in the mean time, as I am enjoying using cyanogen so far. A nice new kernel or a different rom anyone can recommend?
Thanks for the help.

First one is easiest, and i believe it works just as well as the other one. (not 100% sure, but surely extended my batterylife.)
The second also gives a little more theory of the whole thing.
Doing a check on wife's atrix2 bc her battery will drain very fast some times and other times not like 3 hours sitting on the table. i downloaded app OS Monitor to see if there was an app sucking the battery down. under message tab the cpu1: shutdown then cpu1:booted secondary processor it keeps repeating that over and over about every 10 seconds. has anyone seen that and is that something that would drain the battery very fast? any help would make my life better thanks

How do we do that?

Questions should be posted in the Q&A Section...

First of Apex is correct, this should be in Q&A. But since it is asked, we'll try to answer.
A little more info about the phone would be helpful in getting an answer to you. Is your phone root? If so, is it running a custom ROM, and what mods have been done? Is it running ICS or GB?
A good app to find a battery drain is BetterBatteryStats.
I also second the SuperCharged script as a battery saver (in most cases). It is quite easy to setup once you understand how to do it. Also be sure to read all of the first two posts in the thread. You will need to be rooted to run the script.
Hope this helps and hope we can get you squared away.

Seeing as how you have OS Monitor installed to try and track down the cause for the drastic discharge in battery, I have to assume that your wife's Atrix 2 is not rooted, and you are likely on 2.3.6, since the only way you would be on ICS is by obtaining root access and flashing either of the two leaked versions of 4.0.4. That said, we need to know a little about the 'usage' of the battery that is causing the sudden discharge. If you can go and get a screen capture (with another camera phone or otherwise) and post the screen shot of the battery statistics from navigating to Settings or System Settings>Battery>and show what the linear graph can tell us about the usage of the battery. How long has this issue been occurring? If not long, comparatively to the length you've owned the device, I'd rule out hardware issues. Likely, you have a rogue app, or something else like a kernel or power wakelock that is causing constant drastic discharge rates. I've written up a rather extensive guide for getting the most out of your battery (as seen below in my signature), and you can have a look at that to see if any -or all- of those measures are helpful. It sounds like the battery itself could also be the culprit, but again, without further information to go off of, it's so hard to pinpoint...
I have been sticking to ice cream sandwich as I saw that there were several negative reviews about the jelly bean update specifically regarding battery life. I was wondering whether I should update or stick to ICS. Also I am rooted currently on ICS, what is the best way to update to JB?
Flash a jellybean rom, and the new modems.

Hmm, I was kind of looking for an evaluation of battery life mainly and whether its worth it to actually upgrade since I treasure my battery life, so have they been able to fix the issues with jb?

There are several threads to help with battery life on jb.
Maybe I set up my device differently but I have not noticed any degradation in battery vs tw and this is from a month of consistent use.
I happen to do a similar setup and use all the same apps and I honestly can't tell a dif in day to day battery life. I still get close to or over 6 hrs screen on time on cm10.1 vs beans 14/13 w the stock kernel in a decent signal area on 4glte pi only and no WiFi at all but I use a Samsung OEM extended 3000 mah.
I too was pretty concerned about battery life. After researching, it turns out most battery related issue is centered around Google Now. This turns out to be true. Just turn off Google Now, then go into Maps>Setting>location setting, uncheck everything (especially "report from this device"), and you won't have any battery issue.
Also, install Greenify, and greenify everything that should go into deep sleep mode when you're not using the phone.
Man I couldn't imagine shutting down all the things I use. Only thing I turn off is GPS when I am not using it on tw. On cm10.1 I leave everything on and don't try to save battery...no issues. I do agree with going into maps and turning off location reporting

So , I have decided to upgrade to JB, but Ive forgotten how i should do this. Im rooted currently on ICS, but Im not sure if I have an unlocked bootloader ( how would i check?) .
Can anyone suggest a tutorial as to how I would go about doing this since im rooted.
Why don't you just flash a JB ROM? If you want to factory OTA I would search "how do I unroot my S3."

Hi everybody !
I'm new on this forum, so please tell me if I do something wrong.
Since approximately one month I have problems with my Nexus 5's battery, and a poor screen-on time (+/- 45 min).
I run stock Lollipop 5.0, with ElementalX r70 kernel, and I have the MultiRom mod installed, which I use sometimes to try different ROMs.
I didn't notice differences between stock and custom ROMs, but I didn't try for a long time.
May someone be able to help me ?
My Nexus 5 is one year old, I hope I won't be obliged to change the battery.
Thank you.
The first way you need to do is checking your wakelock in detail by using some apps like GSam Battery Monitor, or Better Battery Stat, you can find them both in Play Store.
See the sticky, first four posts plus last few pages.

Hi all,
I am new to XDA and flashing roms etc. I have currently flashed 5 times... mainly due to experimentation though. I am currently running Albinoman's CM13 Alpha build on my Samsung Galaxy S5. I have the kltedv build.
Since upgrading (i have always had battery issues) I have noticed that I have in my battery usage section I have an item called Over-Counted. yesterday it took over 44% of my battery usage!!
What is this item? What does it do? Is there something I can do to better manage it?
Thanks!

thats something that got implemented not too long ago, and im not sure why.
it is my understanding, that its some sort of mis counted battery statistics, and its not something using battery that you can fix.
i could be wrong, thats just what i thought it was.
Thanks. That is what it sounds like... My battery is leakier than a sieve. Hopefully my replacement arrives soon
