G2X Cyanogen & Videotron SMS - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hi Guys,
First time poster here!
I've read a lot about rooting and modding a phone, I was able to switch between my stock rom with Videotron & Cyanogen with backups and all.
I've had some problems with Cyanogen regarding SMS on the Videotron network. I instaklled Cyanogen last week and everything was going fine until I texted a friend and couldn't receive any replies from her. Tried Handcent, stock app and Go SMS Pro but the phone wouldn't receive her texts.
I reluctantly reverted to stock rom, texted her (she's on Rogers) and now I could receive her texts again. Really weird...
I really love Cyanogen but I can't stay on it if I can't receive sms from some people while other work (My wife can text me and she's on Telus).
Do any of you guys had a similar problem?

Check your SMS settings and APN's. I've experienced this before where I couldn't send and/or receive from certain people on other networks.
Try changing your SMS phone type. This might also be blocking it.
Or simply stop texting other chicks!

I'm on Videotron but don't text a lot, the only message I tried was to check out their ****ty mail client and it seemed to work fine. As others mentioned above, check your APN settings (especially the ones related to MMS). I'm running the latest 201 nightly.
Here are the settings from my APN Backup .xml file (I can post the entire file if you need it):
Line 571: <apn name="Videotron" numeric="302500" mcc="302" mnc="500" apn="media.videotron" user="null" server="null" password="null" proxy="null" port="null" mmsproxy="null" mmsport="null" mmsprotocol="null" mmsc="null" type="default,supl" />
Line 572: <apn name="Videotron MMS" numeric="302500" mcc="302" mnc="500" apn="media.videotron" user="null" server="null" password="null" proxy="null" port="null" mmsproxy="10.208.89.17" mmsport="8080" mmsprotocol="null" mmsc="http://media.videotron.com/" type="mms" />
EDIT: if you have a backup of the stock 2.2 ROM somewhere, could you copy it on a server where it can be downloaded? Could be handy if I needed to send the unit back for servicing. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Guys!
I was using the stable version of CM and I did notice that there were two apn, Videotron and Videotron MMS...
Can you send me your backup just in case.
Thanks!

A nandroid backup would work for me.
Here's the APN Backup file: http://depositfiles.com/files/i97nhfo93
You can backup/restore the included .xml file using the free app here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.APNBackupRestore&hl=en

I would have to do a factory reset on it first and then do a nandroid backup so that I don't give you a backup with my personal settings, correct?

I would certainly advise doing that beforehand, just in case.
No rush here, BTW!

Just to let you know I did manage to have my text working for my friend! Going in the SMSC hidden menu did the trick!
There were no numbers in the box, when I pressed Refresh, it loaded a bunch of numbers. I then saved the whole thing!
Thanks Guys!

Bumping this, saw another user asking for the stock Videotron ROM in another thread, if you have it, I'm sure he would appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

See this thread for nandroid backups of the Videotron stock 2.2.2 ROM:

Sprite Backup Problem - Restoring data on a new phone

I received a new/refurbed Kaiser this morning to replace my broken one. I backed up all of my data using Sprite Backup Version 6.2.2 yesterday, ready to transfer to this new phone today.
I am using the trial version of sprite backup and I understand that after the trail period is over you are unable to make any more backups but you are able to restore the backups you have already made. Therefore I assume that the trail period running out isn't my problem (even though it hasn't yet).
When I try to restore the data onto my new phone it says "authorization required" and closes the program.
How am I able to restore my data?
Do I have to buy Sprite Backup? I don't really want to as I don't plan on using it every week as a backup system and thought it was the most reliable method to transfer my data to the replacement phone...
Thanks
Any ideas?
this happned to me aswell... i bit the bullet and bought it
sent you a link via pm
Got this problem sorted now, the full version of Sprite is required to restore data on a different phone than originally backed up on.
Thanks a lot to itsallsubliminal for pointing me in the right direction.

[Q] How can I get a generic IMEI number on my SGS4G

Hi everyone,
I just picked up a GS4G and want it to work with my Tmobile web2go account but am having some trouble. Some people simply delete the EFS folder but that doesnt work and I have been able to reset the IMEI to all 0's but that gives me problems too.
I have read some people that have a generic IMEI number (004999010640000) or something like that and was wondering how can I get that on my phone. From what I have seen, it is due to flashing a certain rom or messing with the nv_data file. So which rom can I flash to get a generic IMEI or anything else I can do?
Thanks for any help anyone can offer as I would really like to save a few bucks and keep my data plan as it is. Thanks again
the generic actually doesn't work. It won't give you service.
Ive been playing around with it but after 2 days, I am still able to make calls and connect to tmobiles 4g service with the all zero imei.
For anyone wondering, I first deleted the efs folder (dont recommend unless you have 2 backups), restarted and then it came back with a weird imei of weird characters. I was able to make calls but couldnt connect to 4g which is my primary reason of doing this. So I edited my original bin file with microsoft word and changed a few numbers around, replaced it into my efs folder, then got the all zeroes imei. Then I flashed it back to stock via odin and after this, is connected with my internet plan just fine and could make calls fine as well. I thought about leaving it like this but then flashed it with valhalla black edition and it still connects just fine with an all zero IMEI. I still would like to try it with a bin file that gives an IMEI of 004999010640000 but for now, it works for me just fine.
I pay $5 a month for data from Tmobile (Web2go/Tzones) and didnt want to upgrade and am glad I finally got it to work after a few hours of messing around. If anyone has any questions, let me know. I look forward to poking around the SGS4 threads for awhile until my next phone.
Hi mendezj666,
I just got my SGS4G today and I also have the $5 a month data plan from tmobile. Can you please share where to change on the nv_data.bin to do the trick? I appreciate that.
Thanks

Have you read up on this phone and know how to root and install roms and know how to use odin? (All very easy to do) I just dont want to get blamed if you mess up your phone and want to make sure you have at least two back ups of your nv_data.bin file (preferably on your computer as well as your sd card).
Also, just to make sure, it asks you to upgrade everytime you access the internet on 4g, right?

Thanks for the quick response. I use EFS_Pro_1.4.7 to backup and restore the efs folder. I just upgraded the phone to SMS-KJ6-beta2d_Stock-Rom_with_Bootloaders-One-Click. I do have two backups of EPS folder on my PC and my sd card. I also made a CWM backup.
Correct. It asks me to upgrade my data plan which I want to stick as long as I can. It works great on 3g on my rooted ICS HD2, but I want the 4G speed.

K, just want to make sure. You shouldnt have any concern of bricking your phone since you're just editing one file and can always replace it but as with all flashing, just doublecheck everything. Delete the entire efs folder on your phone (you may have already done this), restart and should have a weird imei number of characters. On one of your backuped efs folders, find the nav bin file and open it with a hex editor. Then I just changed around a few of the numbers in the first lines randomly and saved it. I might have used Microsoft word to edit the bin file but both should work. then i put that nav file in the efs folder on my phone and rebooted it and put it back to stock via odin. Then when it restarted it still had the IMEI of all zeroes but could connect just fine on 4g.
This worked for me and hopefully works for me. If not, I MIGHT be willing to send you my own nav bin file that I personally use (which I wish I had at the start since it would have been much easier from the start) as long as you arent in my city. But thats a big risk since it might make my 4g stop working which would really suck
Thanks mendezj666. Please check your PM. Thanks.

SMS enabler for MZ602, MZ616 Rooted Devices

Guys,
Since SMS / USSD Mod can be done successfully on XOOM 3G, MZ601 Devices, I thought to ask if you guys need to test this on MZ602, MZ616 Rooted Devices.
For that, I need testers with the following devices:
1) MZ602, Some 4G LTE devices are thought to not be able to have SMS enabled because of carrier blocking... We will check about that..
2) MZ616,
I will also give a script for roll-back procedure in case the MOD doesn't work...

Shoot it this way my friend - I will test
I know that sms mods work wonders for non US GSM Xoom devices,
would love to see it work on US CDMA/LTE Xoom.
Im down to test as well. My xoom is on a granfathered plan that has unlimited data and texting.
BTW my xoom is the lte model
Great. Thank you guys...
So plz send me your framework-res.apk and your location/carrier.

Here is the MOD
SMS-USSD enabler for MZ616: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?oacihj4kniap2qn
Rollback in case it doesn't work: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bqo75tl6k7nata2
How to install:
1) download both files to your XOOM SD CARD
2) reboot into recovery and flash the mod (enabler)
3) reboot to system
4) make sure you have your SIM mounted for 3G.
5) open the messaging app (will be installed by the mod) and send an sms to another number; or better if you use gosms pro from the market. and send from another number to the one in your XOOM (send/receive tests)
6) open phone and dial a ussd code *#1234#; the number is different from provide to provider.
7) test and report back.
8) upon failure, nothing works, flash the rollback zip from recovery to go back to your original framework.
Hi, I tested your framework-res.apk but had to install (and recover) it with adb and busybox, because I don't have a custom recovery. Afaik I can't install one at the MZ616 due to the locked boot rom. If you know a way to custom recovery like twrp, I would give it a try
The result of swapping the framework-res.apk was the tablet was hanging in the startup with the "waving" Motorola logo.
One thing I noticed was the size of the new file: with 4881 kb it was very small compared to the 8254 kb of the original one.
Is there anything I may have missed, or any other clues?

Aha, I thought you are rooted which to me should mean you have unlocked boot loader with custom recovery installed. Didn't know you don't have that sort of recovery not installed... you got a boot loop maybe because you used the stock recovery .
Don't worry about the size of file, it is just a matter of compression level during building the apk...
Unfortunately, I don't own mz616 and I yet don't know a way to get twrp on it. Please lease with runandhide05 who might be able to get twrp up and running on your device first.
I'm working with runandhide05 on custom recovery.
But I also made some progress with your framework-res.apk and mms.apk: I installed them again (just to be sure) over adb shell with busybox, and now it worked and my xoom 2 rebooted fine. Now I can receive SMS, but only one time to read with SMSPopup. Sending does not function (I'm using Go SMS). I don't see any other SMS app, but the phone app shown up. If I try to open phone, I only get the message that contacts won't responding. If I open contacts, everything shows up ok, only the phone links don't work. I get the message thart com.android.phone is not responding.
Hope that helps yuo investigating further.
Best regards Lothar

On your ROM, stock one, do you have phoe.apk? Or MMS.apk without installing my mod?
I mean before you install my mod, can you check /system/app and see if you have MMS.apk there? If so, please send them to me. I am afraid the ones I included are for xoom1 family, not Xoom 2

Alright,
I did some modifications to your framework-res.apk;
Indeed, there was this config defined in your framework
"config_text_sms_receive" but there was no send config
What I did is that I added send configuration "config_text_sms_send" and complied it. Also, changed the MMS.apk to a generic one that works across devices. I decompiled the compiled APK and I can see it persists in bools.xml and in public.xml; therefore, the reference was created successfully.
From SmscSettings.apk that you sent, I can see the option that your device can set the SMS Center number. You may wanna try to check that and put the SMS center number the same as the one of your phone "of course from the same service provider". And then try. I hope this works for you know; I can't test it cuz I don't have MZ616 device.
Here is the link; download it and flash it. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?2b317ejrp7my9ew
In case you need to rollback, couple of posts earlier I included the rollback to original framework.
Good luck and let me know how it goes.
NOTE: I also enabled SIP capabilities for you; so I think you will be able to use your device as a SIP hub and SIP phone over IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem).
Hi, this is really good news. It is a shame that this function is left out of the deveices ...
Is there any chance for getting that running on the MZ608, ICS4.0.4 ?

Hi, sorry for the late feedback. I checked your new framework and mms and the new mms shown up as an app and could be started. But there is no change with sending SMS and also old received SMS are not seen by the apps (mms and go sms). Only the sms popup app is showing an incoming sms just one time. If I try to send a sms with mms, I get the message that mms is not responding. The other messages or behavior has not changed to the previous test. Could it be that one app is blocking access to the sim card?

Any news guys?

Fix Permissions Deletes Texts.

Before anyone starts telling my I posted in the wrong section, I just want to say I did not know exactly where to post but because it was on my Inspire Phone, I assumed to post it in this section. I'm running Existz aospX's ICS ROM BR6 but the issue does not pertain to the rom. Using ClockWorkMod's Rom Manager (v. 5.0.2.0) I ran Fix-Permissions; After doing this however, I rebooted my phone and noticed the some text messages were missing. I was wondering if there is anyway to recover the texts? Because this shouldn't happen to my understanding. I have the database file for texts but I'm not very sure if the texts are "physically" inside it anymore. If anyone can assist me I'd greatly appreciate it!
I dont think there is anyway to recover those messages. Just backup what you have now, and reformat

Terms, Conditions, and Background
Please consider the following carefully before even thinking about flashing this ROM:
--I have no idea what I'm doing
--I have never done any dev work before this
--I only did this because no one else has done it
--Installing/flashing this ROM may brick or otherwise destroy/render your device useless
--By downloading, you hold me completely harmless and it's all on you!
ROM building process:
--I rooted the ROM and installed TWRP
--Deodexed the ROM (pulled the files, deodexed, created a .zip of the deodexed files, flashed the files back)
--Nandroid the ROM
--Extracted boot/kernel and system partition
--Renamed all the Knox stuff to .bak
--Built the flashable zip
--Tested flash on TWRP and CWM.
(a lot of search, trial and error on figuring out some of the steps)
This ROM DOES NOT wipe the data partition. So your setup will remain
This ROM already has the SD card write fix flashed to it
I made no other modifications
Credit to jovy23 -- I used his META-INF from Note 4.
If you choose to proceed and use the ROM after warnings above....
1) Do a full nandroid first. In fact, do two! Backup using TWRP or CWM.
2) Download the ROM and compare MD5 just to be sure
3) Flash using TWRP or CWM
4) Wipe cache and dalvik
5) Reboot and enjoy
6) If you get a bootloop, I wouldn't know why. Restore from backup.
7) If you're on ATT using the T-Mo device (like I am), once this ROM proves to work for others, I will post the AT&T-specific settings here.
Download

Afterthoughts
--Please hit/say "Thanks" if you deem appropriate
--Please be nice. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm only sharing in case someone else want the same I do.
--If you can contribute and help improve this, I'm all ears.
--Please do not mirror, repost, or otherwise share without my permission.
--In case you're wondering, I wanted deodexed because it gives way to theming/customization. I also thought I read that Xposed requires deodexed in some cases.
--Did I miss anything?
Well, here goes nothing.... Enjoy.....

Thanks for letting me know. That is great news. Now we have something to work with....
Dirty flash should be fine since it's the same as the stock. Just be sure to clear the cache and dalvik.
Bout to root/recovery and give this a whirl. I cant stand how terrible my battery life is anymore. is this debloated? like the ATT stuff?
Edit: Wait, theres no support for the AT&T Variant in terms of root/recovery?
Great Job and Congrats!!! @snovvman Don't sell yourself short. Your contributions are very important and appreciated. I'm sure this Rom is going to inspire more conversations, ideas and development. Perhaps we'll even get a dedicated US forum soon. Its nice to see 915T getting some attention. Can't wait to give it go......

I agree, it's good to see things starting to happen
Thanks Snowman for this rom! You've got to realize your the first one to drop a rom for the T-mobile variant of the note edge. You made history! Will be testing out soon. I'll let you know the details.

This is a T-Mobile stock ROM, so it has full bloat of T-Mobile. Many [of us] use T-Mobile's hardware with an AT&T SIM (and account) because of exactly what you discovered. AT&T has decided to lock the bootloader, which makes root more difficult and generally no direct/easy recovery support.
On the subject of bloat, it is easy enough for me to make a de-bloated version. We'll see how things go with the stock, and if there is enough demand, I'll produce a debloated version.
*** For me, I usually start with a full-bloat ROM and freeze/disable the apps I do not want at all, use Greenify to suspend those I use occasionally, and use Autostart to manage the rest. This way, I have full control over what runs and what doesn't. This way, if I later decide I want a bundled app, I simply re-enable it rather than having to look for the APK.

Cheers. Thanks for the kind words. I hope it works well for you. I did it out of desperation!!
BTW, I am also working on a Sprint version, since I also have a Sprint Note Edge.
I have been trying to get carrier-specific Edge Forums for some time:

(You can add your voice to requesting a dedicated forum in the thread above)

Ok so here is what I've done so far testing this rom. I decided I didn't want to do a dirty flash with the rom so I did a nandroid backup in twrp. Got that done and deleted data, cache, and dalvik-cache. I then did a factory reset right there one menu back. It booted up fine and was seeming to run fine. Once I got past the the setup wizard I then went to the play store to download my apps. Therein was my problem. It wouldn't download anything. It would say downloading and download the app a certain amount and just stop. So I canceled it and moved on to another app. Downloaded and just stayed on installing. Never completed. I just couldnt get my apps to download.. Not the op's fault. It was said to firty flash, but I'm letting those know who are wondering outside the box. Maybe someone else is able to fix that issue. I then went back to twrp and restored my nandroid backup. Only problem I have now is I guess the fingerprint memory for my finger got erased. Kept saying no match. Backup password let me in. Was that a relief. Now when I went into the settings to change the backup password and fingerprint it says wrong password and fingerprint doesn't match. Real weird. So if your going to try this stuff disable the fingerprint reading on lockscreen and other things. That might help to relieve some fustration. Now I've dirty flashed the rom on top of my other and there doesn't seem to be any problems besides the finger print scanner. I'm sure a factory reset or another rom with work fine with it. Hope this helps someone!
Thanks for taking the time to do this. I was going to make a debloated ROM I just have not had the time.
Your a boss for doing this
Anyone having trouble with appstore not installing apps or things hanging go into settings then storage then click cached data and clear it

I have no idea, how this thread got 1 star.
I'm downloading the latest ROM that dropped-NK3. I'll see if I can work up a similar setup as the NJL deodexed....
Also if it wouldn't be to much trouble maybe you could also make a debloated rom

Debloating is pretty easy to do. To me, though, is defining what is considered bloat. I can use some guidance. If you (and others) can provide a list of apps that you would like to see excluded, I think I can get it done.
Haha I don't know what other people's definition is but mine is taking everything out except what is needed to run the rom but that's probably to much so I'm guessing people mean no t-mobile apps or samsung apps but we would need some samsung apps for the edge apps so idk

Guys debloat yourself its very easy...everyone uses their phone differently. Some people use Samsung apps some dont. Some use all Google apps some dont.. Ill tell you how i do it hopefully it will help..
1.Create a folder on the root of your ExtSd called "Debloat"
2. Using Root Explorer navigate to System/app, System/privapp and Data/app, remove all apks you dont use and place them in the Debloat folder. Dont remove anything beginning with com. or Sec...if you dont know what it is Google it, thats what i used to do, if your still unsure freeze it forst in tibu. Now you have them all incase you need them again.
3.Reboot and cross your fingers.
You can also freeze whatever you want to remove in Tibu, reboot and see how it goes for a while. If no ill effects boom start at #1 and remove them.
I personally dont use any of the Sammy stuff so i remove it all, all the cloud apks, push, store, etc...if you dont print from your phone remove every print apk, and so on.
Its simple guys give it a shot☺
