Currently have a g2x but thinking about getting the sensation. Which has the better screen?
Imo the g2x has a better screen
I like the Sensations display a lot better for the fallowing reasons:
1.Direct sunlight performance is much much better that the G2X. Probably the best I've ever seen.
2. It's bigger and can fit more on the screen along with making it easier to type.
3. The RESOLUTION. Text is so much more clear and crisp that when I go back to my G2X after using my Sensation, everything looks fuzzy on the G2X. Also the higher resolution puts more on the display.
4. Colors are brighter and more vibrant. Not as vibrant as a super AMOLED but pretty dank close.
The only categorie the G2X wins is viewing from a angle. The Sensation washes out pretty quick on angle viewing but straight on, its nice
My advice to you would be to take your G2X to the store and hold it next to the Sensation. Make sure both displays are cranked up to full brightness.

Obviously its just personal preference as that's a very subjective question.
That said....the screen on the Sensation in the MAIN reason I switched from my G2x to this.
4.3" SLCD with qHD res and an awesome 16:9 aspect ratio.
As far as REALISTIC viewing angles....this is perfect. Im not often laying flat on the floor with my phone 5 feet away trying to use it....
After owning both phones, I knew I wanted to look at this screen everyday for the next 2 years....
I'm blown away by this display....gorgeous.

Especially agree with this.
I really liked the G2X screen, but the advantages of having the higher resolution are the main reasons I prefer the Sensation.
I went with the Sensation although G2X might have a better camera. The reason I got the Sensation over G2X was the screen.

Off topic for sec... The still cam quality is debatable.
Do keep in mind one very important fact.
The Sensation does 1080p @ 30fps in STEREO.
The G2x does 1080p @ 24fps in MONO.
HUGE difference in quality for people who use the camcorder a lot....as do I.
Now back to the topic at hand....
Add LCD density for higher res look

THIS. also had to do with my switch. Sensation performs much better than g2x in terms of graphics quality. just too much damn bloatware
I have to agree with the consensus. Qhd really makes quite a big difference. Now if you asked which screen do I like better, SGS2 versus Sensation I would say I don't know.

Wifey has the Vibrant
which I imagine is comparable to the GS2 in quality.
No question, I've been spoiled by the Sensation's qHD. I'm an avid book reader on my smartphones, and the extra pixels seem to make a big difference, not to mention real estate on web pages.
The blacks on wife's phone does seem to still be blacker, but I'd rather have the extra pixels.

You talk about quality, but the microphone on the Sensation is almost unbearable! Where's the quality in that? Who gives a **** if it's stereo vs. mono if it's unpleasant to listen to in the first place?

A problem with every htc phone I've had. Galaxy s and iPhone has the best sound recording.
The issue is, if I recall correctly, that HTC uses a low quality audio codec to record with. Called amr or something like that

Define "better".
I agree with previous posters about the qHD screen. However the G2x's super amoled screen is brighter and has more contrast which makes it better for games and anything with a simple color scheme. But you can't beat the Sensation's screen for movies and TV - the 16:9 aspect ratio and more natural color rendition are an unbeatable combination.

The Mic is fine?
Sounds great on my 7.1 surround HTPC.
The G2x records in mono and it was obvious.
It's plenty good enough quality. Something must wrong with your Mic.
People have commented that it sounds like I'm on a landline when on a call.
Great quality.
Maybe your Mic holes are covered by a case? I don't doubt its crappy on your device....not mine though. Think of it this way ...better to have stereo craps, than mono crap.

The g2x does not have a super amoled screen...no phone out Samsung does. It has an ips LCD, which is a better tech than slcd in my opinion. If the g2x has the same resolution and screen size then it wouldn't even be a competition.

Hi, I have dilemma, the time has come to buy new smartphone
I know this question was considered many times but let me describe my point of view.
My adventure with smartphones started with Nokia N82 and now I have HTC Desire Z. I was really happy having Desire Z and HTC made a real impression on me. Now I am considering to buy HTC Sensation or Galaxy S2. I really liked dev support for HTC and Cyanogenmod ROM and also other ones. I didn't use stock ROM. I am reading about many positives for SGS2 like display, camera, RAM and cons like Touchwiz, display resolution.
I would prefer to choose HTC maybe beacuse I know their product, I didn't have any samsung before.
My preferences:
For me the most important is performence, customization possibilities and dev support. I don't care about outside but only what is inside. I like sometimes to grab a picture or record a movie. For sure I am using the phone for multimedia: playing, web browsing and waching films. It would be nice if some newer games could be played smoothly. And I was really impressed by HTC custom ROMs (especially CM7).
Could you give me any view for situation repsecting my preferences? I wouldn't like to miss HTC and would like to have sure I will be satisifed if choose SGS2 (it said better performance/hardware).
I hope you understand my uncertainties.
Honestly, I think you'd be happy with either.
Both should be able to play new games smoothly e.g. Modern Combat 3.
Both seem to have a good range of dev support over here there's MIUI, Sense and CM ROM's so quite a few choices. Not sure about the GS2 but I'd expect there to be even more.
Overall, comes down to whether you want a Super AMOLED + Display or a Higher resolution screen, solid build quality or a slimmer phone and Sense.
Understand, but I have a little mess after all reviews I have seen and would like to know actually which differences are exaggerated and which are really negligible :/
For SGS2 in comparision to HTC Sensation I get known:
- SGS2 salmoled display better than LCD but worse resolution
- SGS2 1 GB RAM, for HTC left 200MB RAM free on stock ROM
- SGS2 pretty nice photos, better than for HTC
- SGS2 better movie recording
- SGS2 better movies playing
- SGS2 faster GPS sattelites localization
- SGS2 10 multitouch counted, HTC only 4
- SGS2 worse built than HTC (personally prefer HTC onecast built)
- HTC "death grip" issue
- personal - no experience with samsung products
- personal - fall in love with HTC - THE MAIN REASON OF PROBLEM TO MAKE CHOICE
- will CM ROM look and function similar on both phones?
So I am asking you to make some objective assessment of both phones.

Saying SAMOLED is better is subjective. I don't find it's greenish hue all that tempting. Also S-LCD is actually legible in sunlight.
As for ram? Who cares, both phones have zero memory issues, so that in itself is a non-issue.
The Sensation is a decent phone, but it does have a known heat problem (Use it with the screen on for 15 minutes and it's noticeably warm, sometimes hot). Also, the speaker isn't too great. Performance and customizability is very high though. MIUI, that one WP7-esque rom, AOSP GB and 4.0, Senseless roms, and of course Sense 3.0/3.5/3.6. We have a lot to choose from.
Ok, but SGS2 isn't so much customizable and do you think the same ROMs probably except Sense couldn't be find?
I never said the Sensation is a better option - they're both wonderful phones, but two of your points were kind of off is all. Screen type is 100% subjective and RAM doesn't matter as long as the OS has enough. I don't care if the SGS2 has 1GB of ram if either phone can get away with 600-700MB.

The Sensastion does have memory issues. The only reason I rooted and flashed was because Sense kept force closing even when I opened the smallest of apps. Granted, the update to ICS and possible Sense 4.0 may help things but if you don't want to root/flash, I would definitely go with the Galaxy S2.
I love my Sensation right now but the Galaxy S2 has a really, really great screen and it has great performance as well because of the killer CPU/GPU. But if you can, I would really really encourage you to wait for the new HTC One X or S or whatever.
No point in choosing either option IMO after MWC. Wait it out, get used phone, or maybe play with another OS in the interim. Come back for quad core, better camera, bigger battery, and HD screen. Also some of the quad core phones may be Playstation certified by end of year.
Superamoled plus is definitely better than super lcd except resolution. But there is not a big difference between samoled and super LCD. This is the only difference. But think about the future of your phone. Because samsung is the worst company i have ever seen. They won't publish ics for galaxy s ,plus and others. But htc community is bigger so sensation has a future. But galaxy s2 s future will be end by galaxy s3 s release.
I choose htc because I have used samsung before. And they really really pissed me off...

So i've been planning on getting a new phone for a while now and I love the speed of my One S. Has anybody used the One X? How fast would you say it is in comparison because I think the One S seemed faster but then again I haven't used a One X with the sense 4.1 update and I know that was a huge update for us. The phone got a hell of a lot snappier and smoother. I was planning on getting the nexus 4 but if you look at the forum for that the battery life and build quality is extremely disappointing.

Nice and brief lol!
Only the memory is slower, the processor is faster and the GPU is better. Other than that, it's slightly fatter and can't hold a charge for long
only advantages of the X are:
- screen
- NFC
- more storage
one S (s4):
- better CPU chipset for performance, heat and power efficiency
- faster
- aluminium uni-body
- much better battery life
- better audio
- 1080P recording is smoother
However, JB has made a huge difference to the X for audio, performance and battery life (but it still isn't as good as the S and plus chances are the S could improve even further in these areas when it gets JB)
You want to be looking at the X+ or preferably the XL if you don't need any more than 32GB of storage.

Cheers for the info. I'm not that interested in how good the One X hardware is because the One S is fast enough it's just I long for a phone with a hd screen that is larger than 4.3 so the One X fits my preference perfectly. I also need more storage for my music collection and the price of the One X is really good now so I want it. The only thing that lets the One S down is the screen. It's not bad but a pentile super amoled display at a qhd resolution is hardly something to boast about in late 2012. What do you guys think about the Nexus 4? I really wanted to get it but after looking at the threads there are so many design flaws with it and the battery life is supposed to be terrible. (One X battery is better)

Really informative reply thanks. May I ask why the audio on the one x isn't as good? Surely sound output through headphones is just as good as they both use the beats amp? Or do you mean mics and recording? I've just looked at the One XL and in the UK it's confusing, they sell it at a Qhd resolution and it's a compeltely different phone to the american XL. I do want the One X+ but at £470 it's really not worth it. That's an extortionate amount of money for an HTC phone and everyone knows that HTC phones lose their value incredibly quickly

No problem
Regarding the nexus 4, it looks great, however;
- camera not as good
- battery life not as good
- audio not as good (more so the loudspeaker performance)
Personally the only advantages it has over the S (that apply to me) are;
- better NLED
- better and bigger screen, although quite a few users are saying the screen looks washed out compared to other LCD based screens
- better software support and you get updates much quicker
Although there is something wrong with the software on the N4, the battery life should be much better and I am betting that a software update will improve it so it will be as good as the S if not better (S4 pro + 2100mAh + power efficient display and with stock android, which should be very well optimised thus we should be seeing much better battery life from it )

Thanks for your opinion. I actually considered the GS3 but after looking at many sites and youtube video comments the One X comes out on top and the screen is a big priority of mine and the SGS3 has an inferior screen that is no where near as bright as the One X. Well I've found a good deal on the one x+ so I'll probably buy that if I get the money! Massive amount of storage less reflective screen. Better battery life. I'm drooling haha!
Some people will call me mad and no one probably cares but I'm coming back to the one s! I sold mine back at the start of February and I bought a nexus 4. The nexus 4 is a nice device but stock android is incredibly plain and the software keys take up so much screen space the screen is barely bigger than the one s (except when watching videos)
The sound quality is also a big step down from the one s, The audio on the one s is 100x better the DAC and beats are the reason for this I think. And the nexus 4 is a lot quieter. Everyone's moaning about how quiet the volume output is and I'm pretty sure its hardware.
The camera is also a major downgrade, the pictures my nexus 4 takes aren't much better than what my HTC wildfire took! I'd just thought I'd let you guys know my opinion on the nexus 4 if you consider upgrading to it but I think apart from the bigger and better screen the one s beats it in every way. As for the s4 pro and 2gb of ram I've hardly noticed any difference in real world usage.
So anyone thinking they've had enough of the one s, just think you've still got a great phone I've just sold a nexus 4 to get another one s so that's how much I miss it. I'll need to get used to the non HD pentile display again which will probably take me a week or so but I'm looking forward to it A lesson to anyone who loves htc sense. Don't buy a nexus!
I don't wonder about it. One S probably will remain the best android phone of this size until HTC M4 out at Q3 end hopefully. The only weak point on One S is QHD pentile screen(some said no microSD) and all the other stuffs are very good to excellent. If I have budget problem in this year, I can imagine I could use it til next year, it's a very powerful phone. Indeed, I decided to hold One S as my backup phone though I may get a M4 or M7 later, or give it for my parents.
Plain stock android is always bad because you got too little function and settings but the best thing on nexus is you always have a perfect working CM rom. The most updated and bugs free CM. There are many hardware problems on N4 like camera and sound, make it the worst Nexus in the record.

I completely agree, the fact that I'm giving up a phone with a hd display for a phone with a qhd pentile display is a credit to how good the One S is. I'll only probably have it for about 4-5 months and then I'll get the HTC One when my contract runs out but the One S is great, I suppose I'm just a sense maniac. I love HTC sense.

I personally think the higher resolution is great for text but apart from that it's hardly a big deal. The resolution of the one s is fine for videos and picture viewing etc. I certainly see absolutely no point in the 1080p full hd screens that they're putting in these newest flag ship phones! So I don't think it's worth it although it would be nice. Anything above 4.3" i'd say it certainly is worth a higher resolution than qhd.
I'd have to agree that 4.3" is likely the sweet spot for this screen resolution.
I'm also switching to a One S soon; I currently have an LG Optimus L9, mostly for audio purposes since a large majority of my smartphone time is spent listening to music (for its price, it's sure low on distortion and seems to be able to drive my NuForce IEMs with no fuss). Being an avid GSMArena reader, I was pleased to learn that the One S still holds some of the lowest distortion readings of all smartphones ever reviewed (and that the Snapdragon S4 really zooms on this particular device).

You'll love it, the sound quality is superb on this phone. It's half the reason why I missed the phone in the first place! The jellybean update made the audio a bit distorted and the volume was too loud so I don't know if that's been fixed but I know the sound quality was immense on sense 4.1 on ice cream sandwich.
Wow, you guys are updating quite fast! I just bought my one s (for a bargain) and I'm hoping to keep using it for 2 years. My previous phone was a galaxy s1, so compared to that, the one s really flies

Some people will call me mad and no one probably cares but I'm coming back to the one s! I sold mine back at the start of February and I bought a nexus 4

1080P is still useful if you are going to read some low quality pdf documents(probably scan via scanner) but WWW should be enough at 720p.
Do you think third party apps are more optimized (more fluid, stable...) on nexus 4 than on htc one s? Im thinking of switching to an iphone because of this...

Nexus is not necessary better when you only stick with stock plain os. However, if you are willing to flash Nexus CM rom with 3rd kernels then the answer is 100% yes. But N4 is really bad at music, camera and voice call(or use BT handfree instead)........really really bad
iphone is good if you can live with the tiny screen.

+1 to this
Apps run a little bit smoother on the nexus 4 but stock android and 4.2 are the main reason why. I just think the hardware of the device is rubbish. The dac is poor and the camera is awful. The nexus is good if you want a snappy stock android phone.
If you flash acid audio engine, music with earphones should be great, as it is on hos with cm and that mod.
Ill wait for ios 7 and key lime pie to decide, but I really dont see why not choosing a nexus instead of any other android phone: the SO is far more polished and software is always up to date. However when I see even nexus devices lagging in browser ,for example, I doubt a lot about android as SO...
Aside from the camera and sound I wouldn't go back to the one s , yea the widgets look better on sense and the theming is cool but I got rid of the soft keys thanks to a ROM and now I have the screen space jack and I really love the display ... I just wish they can make a nexus the size of a one s with HTCs camera and Googles freedom ... I know Google said the next nexus is going to have an insane camera so that might be the one!
