[Q] Droid 2 Global rooting? - Droid 2 Global General

Ok, so not to long ago I recieved a notification saying that my Droid 2 Global ws due for an update. My thoughts were "YAY!! NEW STUFF!!!". After I updated it I found out about phone rooting and I did some research on it. I came to the conclusion that I was going to root my phone no matter what. But I have tryed everything I came across. Which was only Gingerbreak, z4root, Petesoneclickroot, and I think thats about it.... Anyways none of those work.
When I tryed the Gingerbreak it would say its rooting but I left it there for like 3 hours while I watched a movie and it still wasnt done... I knew it wasnt going to work because it said it would take "2-3 minutes, 10 minutes at the max".
With the z4root I would install it and click on it and click Pearmanet Root. It would load for a little then it would just stop and go to the home screen of my phone. When I clicked the app again it would say it force clossed and after that it just would not open when I clicked it.
With the Petes one click root it would be going all well until it came to the rebooting stage. Once my phone shut off and started back up it would go into bootloader. And it would stay like that...
Just so you know what my phone is running and stuff its:
Model Number: DROID2 GLOBAL
Android Version: 2.3.3
If theres anything else you need to know just ask and please someone tell me and option to root my phone.

z4root and Gingerbreak won't work.
As it was described multiple times, DROID3 ADB exploit works. Pete's one-click motorola root tools should work; although it might fail if you had z4root.

i was
success to root using superoneclick 2.2(zergrush)

I used Pete's Root Tools for my D2G several times with no problems. It's pretty straight forward. You might need to SBF, because those other apps probably narsed up your ROM.

Also make sure you have the most recent drivers from Motorola. I have heard of problems being because of old drivers. Rootzwiki has some great user/dev threads on installing cm7gb. I would go there and follow the directions you find. Like the others said you may need to sbf to get a factory/known good state.
Remember: double & triple check everything before getting stuck up a creek. And make sure you have a way back before you start down that road...
D2G CM7GB

just used peters root tool.
worked excellent for me

If i had been rooted and then the update unrooted my phone. how can i gain root access. furthermore is their an app and lastly can i do it on a mac?

Look for DROID3 one-click root scripts. There's a version for Mac. This has been discussed many times, and can be found with a quick Google search, too.

root lost after 2.3.340 OTA update cannot get it back

Here's a good one for any devs. I have been fussing with this for 3 days and am at my wits end.
I noticed the other day there was a software update from VZW for my droid X. That night I get home launch ADB name all the renamed .apk bloatware back to normal, and DL & install the update.
After doing so I as expected lost root. No biggie I thought as I Had rooted my phone previously with little effort. Long story short after numerous attempts and now several different methods including z4, 1 click root, etc... I still am unable to regain root access, and am stuck with read only access to the file system.
I have posted on a coupe different forums with this query, and it seems to be a mixed problem. some are able to regain root, others are like me and locked out completely.
So.. the question here lies in this??? is there something VZW or Motorola have done with this update to disallow rooting, and if so is it possible to roll back my OS to stock 2.2 Froyo prior to this update? Alternatively does anyone else know of any tricks I may have overlooked in successfully rooting my DX.
Thanks in advance!!!
Same here. Tried z4 and onion root. Tried the terminal emulator method. Nothing works.

No, nothing they did. It happened because you accepted an OTA while rooted. Every root guide on here should tell you never to accept an ota when rooted, or you could permanently lose root.
i'm in the same boat as the poster. i accepted it while rooted, unrooted and then installed it. It appears i am locked out from rooting.

If you have problems with moving files, you can use Root Explorer to move them. Watch out for typos on the last step. Other than that, it definitely works. I have done it many times.
idk..
I did this, and everything worked up to the last step.
It read no errors, but nothing worked.
I figured out that it didn't actually create the directory, so I created it with rootexplorer, copied the file in, and then when i restarted my phone was bricked D:
I've since exchanged it, but I'm gonna hold off for official support before I try again.

You probably jumped the gun there. These phones are actually pretty hard to truly brick unless you flash something to the "phone" in Odin. What directory were you creating? All of the directories that you are trying to work with are already there. All you have to do is put two files on your sdcard, move one of them to /system/xbin and then flash flash the other. I've done this probably 50 times in the last month and with the exception of a typo the very first time, I haven't had a single problem.
Don't use SuperOneClick... I had problem after problem when I used it to root. "de-rooted" (not sure that's a word) it with SuperOneClick then used Z4root. Everything worked perfectly after that. Also I was making a mistake when trying this step I think - "adb push path/to/recovery.bin /sdcard/recovery.bin" I was stupidly starting adb shell first then trying to run adb push. Hope that helps some.
I am debating rooting also, just a bit hesitant and reading everything i can for now. Which is the best root method so far as i can tell there about 20 different variants.

Everyone has their own favorite. Personally I use both SOC and Z4, depending on where I'm at. I've never had a problem with either. Good choice, though, reading everything that you can find.

i dont know what you are reading but with regards to the US Cellular Samsung Captivate there is O N E method and really only 1 method.
SuperOneClick 1.55 which can be downloaded right here at XDA.
its pretty friggin dummy proof really.
And just incase you were thinking rooting gets you everything (like 3 of my coworkers) rooting just unlocks the door, its up to you whether you want to walk thru and start installed and flashing mods but jsut to ROOT the phone allows you to do things not being rooted will not.

Actually I SOC didn't work well for me. z4 worked perfectly on my Mesmerize. I had problems with SOC.

my friend no offense, but if you had problems with superoneclick then you got problems.....
the biggest problem is the creators instructions, he tells you to disable usb debugging then to enable it when it says waiting for device... to bad you cant because the usb cable is plugged in and you cant do anything like that when the cable is plugged in.
i leave debugging enabled because it needs to be on to run the root.
30 seconds later i am rooted,, easy as that.
It's totally cool that it worked for you.
I'm just saying that I followed the instructions of SOC (not that there are any instructions, you just click on the big ROOT button) and then tried to install Clockworkmod.
I could not get anything to work properly. I then used z4 and it worked.
I'm happy to hear that it worked for you though but "I have no problems" not sure why you have to go there.
You realize that there are lots of reasons why something may work on your phone and not mine right? Also if you want to get picky you called it the US Cellular "Captivate". If it's from U.S. Cellular then it's the "Mesmerize". Maybe that's why SOC worked for you and not me...
I also had problems with the SOC method of rooting my Mesmerize... It looked like it worked but the method for flashing CWM wouldn't work. Kept getting access denied errors. Z4root worked like a charm though. Don't know why, don't especially care either way.

Does z4root install superuser.apk and buysbox? Also with z4root which version of superuser.apk does it install, I noticed the creator has updated the apk recently here:

[Q] Rooting and gingerbread update

I've spent some time on the forum trying to find an answer, but obviously that didnt happen.
I have my GS4G and want to just ROOT it without installing any rom to replace the firmware.
1. If i root my phone, can i do JUST that? or are there other steps after simply rooting that are considered important for the stability of my phone?
2. After i root my phone, will i still be able to do the kiesmini/OTA gingerbread *official* (not leaked) update?
My main reason for wanting to do this is for the bloatware and increasing performance, and to just have overall more 'control' (similar to the feeling of wiping a new computer from the manufacture's preloaded poop).
I have superoneclick v1.9.5. I used it as a test on my old MT3G, and installed the GingerYoshi rom, and all worked very well. I just dont want to brick my GS4G, as i paid full price D:.
sorry if this has been asked/answered, i try to play by the rules, but just didnt find my answer.
thanks,
Greg
Super one click root 1.7 was what I used. It just roots the phone, as any other rooting method should. You can get ota fine...I always did. Never had a problem.

Just so you know there's no one-click root method for Gingerbread for the SGS4G yet. Maybe around the time the official ROM comes out there will be.
what does:
"error:more than one device"
mean?? That pops up when i hit root. I only have one phone connected to my PC.
I'm assuming its multiple instances of ADB running? Im not sure..
*EDIT* My mistake lol. still had my MT3G plugged in, my bad!
successfully rooted. Thanks

[Q] Samsung Epic 4G Touch Root Problems! Any Help?

As the title says, I have the Samsung Galaxy SII Sprint's variation. I rooted my phone when it was on the version before Gingerbread EL29. I used the SuperOneClick method to root my phone and after doing that, 'Superuser' was installed on my phone. Everything was going fine until I accidentally updated my phone to Gingerbread 2.3.6 EL29 via Sprint's over-the-air update. I know it sounds dumb from me but I really knew that if I updated my phone I could mess up my root privileges, but that pop up update was showing up each 5 minutes, that in one of them I accidentally pressed 'install'. Now I have tried to unroot my phone with SuperOneClick but 'Superuser' is still there and when I access an app that requires root privileges like 'Wireless Tether' it says that my phone is not rooted. I also tried to do a factory reset and root again with 'SuperOneClick' but it freezes up (I guess it's because 'Superuser' is still there?) I was also thinking on installing a rooted rom but I don't know if I can install custom roms (I don't know if I have CWM and if it will mess up because I'm not rooted?..) Right now I just want to get the latest rooted stable release possible.. Sorry for extending myself but I wanted to give all the important details as possible as I am new in handling root phones and also in this forum. I will appreciate any help, thanks!
-James E.
Btw you might want to ask in the epic forums. You will get slot more help. I would use sfhub el29 oneclick

Can't root Motorola Droid Ultra

Hey guys,
Recently I tried to root my Motorola Droid Ultra using MotoRoot and the way it works is that you download it from xda dev. and side load the apk onto your phone. You then run the setup inside the app and then the phone is rooted. I am very familiar with the rooting process but the thing is whenever I try to install moto root it says application not installed and I have checked and made sure that I can install apps from unknown sources and sure enough I can. I tried installing the apk through ADB too but it still gives me the same message it says application not installed. I have even turned off verify apps but it still doesn't work I have also enabled developer options but still not budging same message every time. What am I doing wrong??? I need help.
Helpful info: This phone was purchased in Early December 2013 so it's pretty new but what happened was when I got the handset I tried to root it but it gave me the same message then 1 day later after I bought it the phone randomly shuts off and I can't even get into the bootloader or go into recovery so it was basically dead and there was nothing I could do about it so I went back to Verizon 2 days after I bought the original handset and they replace it with another droid ultra and everything works fine but I still can't root it :crying:

I'm having the same problem. I messaged jcase about it to see if he maybe had any answers as to how to fix these issues such as the failure to install or did not download messages. The was a quick and easy one as well that I had mentioned in the message. The response I got was useless. He told me he was **** with windows and easy guides so I should wait till someone makes a windows version of the hack so that I can download it and root... I have games and stuff that I want to hack and bloat I want to get rid of.. Now I'm being told that I need to wait on a windows version of the rooting system to be made so that I can do all this... Why hasn't anyone done this yet? Idk mang but I have the same problem as you and no one is making our lives easier. Hopefully someone else reads this and respond with something that is of help. Post here if you find any solutions and I'll do the same.
Are you on 4.2.2? If so, the only way to root at the moment is to follow the pwnmymoto steps 100% PERFECTLY. And when you say you tried using ADB do you mean you tried to push the files(pwnmymoto.jar + su) to your sd using ADB and then use telnet and all that fun crap? This link: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2444954
Anyways, but if your phone's version is less than 4.2.2 I believe the app should install as a normal one would.

Don't attempt to root a phone until you've read the instructions completely. Things go easier if you read the entire thread, even if it takes a while.
Of course, it's important to read the beginning of the thread... like the first post, which says you must be on 4.2.2 (the camera update).

Sorry, but unless it's a dev edition there is no known root method for 4.4.4 with or without a pc.
I could rootear my phone droid xt1080 verison with the program kingroot using PC version only for a few minutes. but I served to remove very persistent malwares. I would love to unlock the bootloader to switch to cyanogenmod but it seems impossible. probe by many means. sorry for my bad English.
same... is there any other method to permanent root
