Help!
Over the course of the past 2 days, I have struggled to get a new rom (Bionix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119986) on my SGS4g. I have soft bricked my phone, but was able to bring my phone back to life through Odin and Stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 Deodexed + Root KF2 [6/28]-corradokng
I can not get into recovery, but can get into download mode. I would really like to use a different rom. But I need help. I have read through many of the forum pages, but I guess I am too noob to follow the directions.
Is it possible to find a whole collection to just Odin my phone to a differnet rom?
I have looked on youtube for videos, which helped me with my vibrant (with overstock), but now I am just stuck. Yes, I have read the the noob guide, but not sure I understand it all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!
Eiresh
Try the GB Starter Pack. There's a link in my signature.
Also, don't use KF2. That's one of the buggiest ROMs ever. You're better off using Odin to flash RaverX3X's KC1 or any of the GB leaks (KG4 and higher).
I used to think the rainbow screen was "cool". lols

To make your life easier looking for the SGS4G Bible. It's generally on the first page of the dev forum anyway, but there you have it. It is full of amazing things you can do!
Flashing a custom ROM would be the traditional thing to do. I'm assuming you've never flashed a custom ROM before, much less on a Samsung phone.
So things to look out for would be learning Odin and ClockWork Mod.

In he bible i see a list of things to do but im so new to this i dont know the order of it all what do u recommend i do first??
The first thing I did after rooting was use this thread to learn how to flash my first ROM. From there you should be able to figure out where to go with your SGS4G fairly easily!
Im confusedddddd !!! jjajaja ill get it .... thanks so much !!
do i make the changes with the phone plugged in via usb or on the phone directly?? sorry its just im not fully understandig here
after you read that guide. download odin from the bible under the "useful files" section. then follow the noobs guide to odin (also in the bible) to odin "bali 3.3uv". i think it was posted by fbis in the dev section. this will give you the latest clockwork mod for the phone. with this...you are ready to flash. go to the dev section and choose your rom. when you figure it out. let me know and i will walk you through it.

Search around the forum and see what sounds good. Make sure you read carefully too, before there's another "OMG, I BRICKED" thread. Even in the event that happens, be sure to search around the forums for immediate answers too.
We can't really tell you what ROMs to flash, as everybody has their own personal preference. However, if you just want something simple to flash, I think nothing gets more simple than Bionix Frost by Team Whiskey. As long as you read carefully, there will be no problems.
Good luck.
First you're gonna need CWM, which comes with the Bali kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195860
Next you need a ROM, lots of people were using this rom (icbinb):http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1157593
If you're not willing to read and follow instructions then please don't try to mod your phone, you might brick it.
As many will mention to you and have mentioned, the bible thread is your friend:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117554
Read and click, read and click.
How about icbinb 2.3.4? I an currently running bionix frost

that sounds good to me ... mmmm im scarded im ging to ruin my phone but i want to do it
Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this.
Alright what I want to do is make a copy, clone, or back-up of my stock rom and if its at all possible to unroot the phone. Why? because if anything happened to my phone example I droped it and something like the 4g stoped working I would still like the use my insurance to replace it.
Now I've looked all over the forums not just on this site but others to see if this was a possibility. I was able to find a Recovery thread on the wiki but it says FROYO ONLY! Let me give you a little info about my phone it might help you, help me. Firmware 2.3.6, Kernel 2.6.35.7, Build Gingerbread, model SGH-T959V and I rooted it with the newest superoneclick. I'am really good with computer junk and with tutorials a simple link to lead me in the right direction should be all I need.
Another thing I was looking at was Valhalla Final T959V I seen a tutorial somewhere on that but lost it. A link to that would be really sweet.
Sorry if I'am being a pain in the butt but I do really appreciate your help. Thanks
Download sgs kernel flasher from the play store and antonx kernel from xda and flash that which will give you cwm then download your rom follow the instructions and flash away
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498 has a good way to flash AntonX's kernel to your phone. That will get you CWM and let you flash other ROMs.
That thread also has a "back-to-stock" flasher in case you need to return or service your phone.
You two are gentlemen and a scalars. I'll give them a shot when I get out of work. Thanks!
Hey guys.
Sorry for asking this, but Ive looked everywhere and tried 2 different kernels flashing with both heimdall 1.3.1 and 1.3.2, as well as odin 1.85, and I just cant seem to find the right kernel that will flash properly through either flash tool. All I want is to be able to put a new rom on this cappy I JUST picked up.
I have a motorola atrix and a samsung s2 skyrocket, and change roms like theyre underwear, lol. But with no official CWM that can be easily flashed through rom manager, Im having trouble figuring out how to get CWM on this thing. Im not a noob, troll, or whatever else people hate, lol. Its just that there arent any new threads in the cappy section about this, and all the instructions Ive found are at least a year old, and havent worked for me.
I just need to be pointed or guided in the right direction so I can start having fun with this bad boy!!
Thanks guys!!

I had problems too, i just figured everything out and this worked for me.
To do this successfully, you need to be running gingerbread on your cappy.
1.) go to goo.gl/4vmPj
2.) read EVERYTHING and make sure you understand it.
3.) Download the Odin and Kernel they provide. I suggest the kernel v.7.05 that it recommends too because other versions gave me problems this version worked the best for me.
4.) follow all the steps there, it will give you cwm recovery AND root.
5.) Now you can flash any rom from the captivate android development section like normal but this first time when going from stock to a custom rom, DO NOT wipe data/factory rest in cwm!!
6.) Enjoy :good:
Appreciate the help fellas!
I followed your link anwarkhan and corn kernel worked perfect! Just complete my first backup of stock, so now its time to play!! lol
But my ACTUAL problem turned out to be odin not recognizing the device. I didnt realize it wasnt seeing it.
Turns out I just needed to update the samsung drivers on my computer. I thought I had done that through heimdall, but aparantly not.
Just went in and manually updated them and voila!
Thanks again guys
Yeah, Heimdall installs it's own drivers, and those specific drivers are only installed to the one usb port that u r connected to with ur phone at the time of the install.
Odin uses the drivers from samsung.

Awesome!! Thanks again!!
Quick question.
Why are you not supposed to do a factory reset when coming from stock?? Just a little curious.
Sent from my SGH-I896 using xda app-developers app
Not sure why that was posted. Because when flashing a Developer's Rom it will be a full wipe rom anyway, usually.
And ur apps and other stuff u should have backed up before flashing.

That's what i figured. Anyway, I'm happy to report that i am now running aocp 4.2 jb, rooted and recovery'd, lol. Thanks for the helpful hints fellas. Let the games begin!!!

No problem, I'm glad everything is now working for you. && you aren't supposed to do a factory reset when coming from stock because if you do, when you flash the rom and kernel and reboot, your cappy will directly boot into recovery and recovery only and wont boot into the rom. That's the problem I had a few days ago which took me a while to figure out.
Hi can someone help please
I tried to install slim bin, then my phone display a "phoenix" and do not do anything else,
Then I wanted to revert to stock and followed these instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13132341 # post13132341
My phone now only generates a mesage "Vibrant" when I star the phone and nothing else.
can you help please :crying::crying:
Would you look under the battery and verify that your phone model is SGH-T959V. Or as we know it sgs4g.
The thread you pointed to its not for sgs4g. You pointed to the vibrant. Major differences.
I assume you meant slim bean, what one did you flash. AFAIK, none of our kernels or ROM's have phoenix in them and I've flashed most of them. lol.
I see that op has another thread asking for someone to reupload kg4. I hope that he finds the correct info/Rom. His first flash was a vibrant Rom.
Kj6 is the current gingerbread stock release. Search for lumin30 posts on heimdall one click back to stock. Read, read, read (desexton's advice that still sticks in my head).

Just flash a stock rom with Odin or Heimdall and youll fix it. BUT, before all, be sure of your phone model, vibrant is not the same than SGS4G (SGH-T959V<<< this letter make the difference). Good luck
The vibrant didn't have the V after the 959... Yeah, crazy, the vibrant is SGH 959 & the sgs4g is SGH-T959V..silly Samsung making it difficult. It's confused many.
My phone is SGH-T959V, i realized that the thread was wrong after I try to install the rom, I think this has F... total my phone :crying::crying:
Yes Slim bean, to be hones i don't no what i have done but this is the third time that i have install a rom and always i have fond the download link here so i believe that i have fond the rom from the forum but from hum i don't know .
You'll be a pro at this in no time. Find/search for one of the one click heimdall kj6 packages (lumin30 has a great guide or bhundven has a sticky, and both deserve thanks). I would start there. Read lumin's guide.

Well guys, Ive been searching long and hard to find out how to do this and keep seeing I need to use Odin. I have no clue how to use Odin and consider myself lucky that I was able to even flash CM10.1 Jellybean successfully. I do have a full backup of my original rom. I just want a rom that will work. CM10.1 is good but I wasn't able to get my apps put back on (I followed the instructions on how to do it but it keeps giving me a formatting error). It seems this phone hasn't worked good at all since it had the stock Froyo on it. The 2.3.6 Gingerbread update worked except for that texting issue of to many characters.
I have been reading that lots of people seem to like the Valhalla final rom. I have the Samsung Galaxy s 4g (T959V). Or do you guys recommend another more current rom? I am really clueless about how to do these things. Also, when you root a phone does that mean you can no longer get apps off Google play?
One more thing, what's the deal with different kernerls? I know nothing about them either. Are they just to do with communicating with the hardware or is there more to them?
I see different launchers and know nothing about them or if I can use them for my phone. Wouldn't know how to install one either. I'm sure I can customize what I already have but don't know how or what to try. Maybe that should be first. I would really like to have my facebook app back though. If you guys could just give me some links, that would be great too. Thanks in advance everyone.
If you want to go back to a bml gingerbread rom you have to one click back to stock.
