It seems like nobody done this before for our phone, so i done it myself
Just a stock kernel with CIFS.ko , TUN.ko , NLS_UTF8.ko built in
Works fine for me except for 1 bug (it's related to cifs i suppose) :
- on samba server rights for folder\files must be 777 or cifs won't allow to execute\view any file
How-to install:
- drop .zip onto sdcard
- boot into CWM (worked for latest official)
- install custom zip
- reboot
I insist you make FULL NAND BACKUP
it's my first contribution to Android community so it's up to you - take all risks and use this kernel or not
View attachment ND01_kernel.zip
Sorry being such a noob, what do those do?
Sent from my Bulletproof_Doubleshot using XDA App
CIFS module is needed for CifsManager App. It allows you to share files between Android smartphone and any samba servers. (Windows shares)
NLS_UTF8 add's support for filenames in UTF8 encoding
TUN module is requered for OpenVPN client app
That's useful, now you should make an even more epic kernel. One that works well with CM/AOSP Bases. We have none.
That's a fun first contribution - welcome to the party!

Bad thing is it is there is a stock kernel with the same additions on Rootzwiki put out by Undead but I see no credit here so not sure if this is a repost...stolen or magically two people put the same modules into the stock kernel at the same time...these modules are not used by the majority of users so that's why most don't know what the did...so who knows but development is development...
Well this was posted first so looks like we can ignore most of what I said....would be nice to see some work done on the kernels...this is a start....

Just look at version line on your mobile :
2.6.35.10_ND_0.1

It'll be funny if I and Undead have same username and machine name, don't you think so ?
BTW:
can't you guys tell me if you mt4gs can connect to 5Ghz WiFi networks ?
'coz main reason i compiled this kernel is to find out - is that a driver version problem, or hardware not allowing me to see my 5Ghz network...
Flashed and got a WiFi error. Is this known or does it depend on the ROM I'm on? I'm running rubix

the device isn't advertised as dual band wi-fi so i guess it's just the hardware that doesn't support it

That's strange , 'coz mt4g and mt4gs use same WiFi chip (BCM4329), but mt4g actually have dualband WiFi (finds both 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz networks).

My wifi was broken with the OC Kernel, which I'm not sure exactly why because it technically shouldn't be since he included the drivers for our device's wifi adapter.
I'm sadly not using this ROM anymore though, I'm back with the snappier/happier CM6

wifi hotspot/usb tethering/radio all seem to be working for me on FR006
Am i doing something wrong flashing this kernal? Do i need to set scaling_max_freq?
or is there a way i can set the freq - to use something that works for me?
I just tried flashing it, and it boots up fine, but apps that grow to any sizeable spot in memory just close out - (no force close message even)
ATK and the browser both just close out after a few seconds, although i did get through a quadrant run.
Thanks for the help so far!!!

1) I'd do a titanium backup (free version) to save apps and other system data
From Clockworkmod :
2) Nandroid backup your current ROM to be safe
3) Wipe data / factory reset
4) update with FR00x of your choice, moved to your sdcard root
5) update with kernel on your sdcard root from here :
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?9jngudbz5x9u78z
6) reboot
7) Restore apps and select system data from titanium backup after installing from the Market
hope that helps ...
Fixed and broken....

Looks like the OC Kernel supports IPV6 and has a cifs.ko module so it fixes some apps like :
Google Goggles
CIFS Manager
But it also breaks (force closes) some apps that use a API to web resources (i.e. ad banners, browsers, etc) examples are:
Astro File Manager (free version)
Scanner Radio (free version)
YX Player (uses a browser interface)
A workaround would be to turn off Wifi and Mobile which works OK for Astro and only partially cripples xy Player , but renders Scanner Radio
unusable.
Any thoughts for a fix ?

Yea, no big deal, just thought you'd want to know. Thanks for the patch tho, working well for me so far.
Dual Mic also needs to be compiled into the kernel, and I'm not sure if cm7 by default has those drivers included or not- can't remember if I had to specifically had to add it, or if it was there and the config needed to be changed, but I know I had to do something to get it working with my gb kernel

I just flashed it to see what would happen and the issues with the Market are still there. Our ROM is a custom build that's based off of a Nightly, so our fix will require a little deeper dig. Hang in there, Adam will figure it out.

afaik, unless i got my facts wrong, the module is indeed included by default.
The only thing that is needed is to run 'snd3254 -dspmode 0'.
It is quite possible that I'm wrong because I'm not 100% sure how to test, but after setting dspmode to 0 and placing a call; I can definitely hear the mic in the back.
However, I realized that I forgot to include the init script to turn dual mic on. So thanks for reminding me
With that said.... 0.3 dropped.
I thought the tinny audio fix was already in cm7 since nightly 50-something? Or maybe it's been in since the 20's, I don't remember but I thought it was already included.

um I did read the post! I don't know if CM7 already includes all this or not on nightly 100??? Why would I flash something I already have unless maybe there is something in the package I don't have.
I have picked up an old project I was working on, getting Eclair on our phones.
Now you might think, why Eclair, it is much older than Froyo and we already have Gingerbread!?
The answer is simple, just because we do not have Eclair roms for our phones
Some people here think newer is always better, but that is not always the case
Eclair is already booting, but I have some FC's and launcher does not work correctly. Neither any other things work.
I was trying to get a logcat, but could not connect using adb.
Perhaps someone else can give me a solution for enabling adb?
What did I use to get eclair booting up?
Froyo bootimage
Compiled Eclair using Froyo-libs and kernel.
If you want to take a look at it, here is a pre-pre-alpha where nothing works
It is not the latest, because I'm already solving some problems.

Guess I forgot something in device-files

Non-working RIL could be caused from three things:
You missed LG services into makefiles/.rc files (if you want I can PM you some strings to add to .rc files)
Wrong libs (easy to check)
Non-prelinked libraries (define TARGET_PRELINKER_MAP (or some like that) into device_thunderg.mk and modify prelink-linux-arm-msm7xx7 or some like that with names of unlinked libs. You can see what stuff isn't prelinked with a debugging-enabled linker you can find into Swift-sense Mur4iK GT540 post. For prelink address, use google because I don't know
Would this have any actual speed benefit?

Oh crap, forgot to supply the bcr4329.ko indeed.
I'm going to try to get a running 3.0 by tonight, if I don't have it finished this evening, I'll upload the WiFi module from the build (using 2 different OS's to work on, Linux for compiling, and Windows for everything else, and working in Win is much easier for me ;p)
Edit: beginning with the really lame methods of getting 3.0 to run, first attempt is done I think, just copied over files, and modified some of them, nothing really special, starting compiling in 5 minutes.

Question- What advantages will 3.x bring over 2.6.38 kernel? Will it make my porn load faster?
Answer-No,it wont bring any magic,but
Easier updating the kernel to add security and performance boosts from mainline Linux kernels
More support for new versions of Android
Android 4.0 was built upon Linux Kernel 3.0.x and therefore expects kernel 3.0s APIs
Faster, more secure system
Because it's just better

Also, what exactly did u change in the source code ? I shall compare it with mine and see if anything important comes out
Good start bro! 3.0 kernel help us to port Sense 4 without masturbating
First of all we can boot it with golf config but we need to change physic offset, gpios and irq's and edit memory bank's, because we have older radio than golf
If it will boot, we can port other stuff from pico kernel, like himax touch screen or bcmdhd, or bt stack

Good start bro! 3.0 kernel help us to port Sense 4 without masturbating
First of all we can boot it with golf config but we need to change physic offset, gpios and irq's and edit memory bank's, because we have older radio than golf

Thanks, yeah that's what I thought, allocate more memory.
This will help both Sense 4 and cm10 and future android versions, and might even solve the friggin unstable mobile data......
If this works,we can think about caf msm 3.0/4
Lirokoa already kanged lots from golf kernel, its better to use the whole thing

same with me, the kernel doesnt wont boot. but this is a good project, im join with your team. and golfu kernel is available in my github so we can rebase the repositories.
I'm here for help

Count me in too... will get the kernel source asap for Compiling....

I was able to compile the kernel by making several changes to source code but it keeps restarting after showing the htc logo
AFAIK, msm7k chipset has a hidden UART(serial port) which can be used for early kernel debugging ... However, in order to access this, we need HTC ExtUSB cable. But I cant find one at local shop
This is a good project, but that won't be easy without access to JTAG hardware (I'm not even sure we can access to the JTAG header on the phone).
Anyway, I think first step is to get USB up and running so we can get adb.
So the best would probably to disable everything we can except usb, and once its up we can move forward and enable driver one by one.
Hey,i have created a new repository here- https://github.com/sakindia123/htc_pico_kernel_3.x
Happy to see so many developers interested!
Kindly fork the above repo and send pull requests to the same!

I will be uploading sources to my github, hopefully together we can atleast make it boot(inspired by the Galaxy S Plus' Caf-ics-3.x port).
Also, what exactly did u change in the source code ? I shall compare it with mine and see if anything important comes out

Our school has alot of books on it...
Those languages are pretty simple... If you know VB completely then C wont be tough. And yes! You should know real nos.,integers etc really well!

Dude seriously? We are taking about porting Linux Kernel to a board here. And you are taking about numbers and integers here. -_- FYI no language is simple to master. AND C ISNT.
@Sarthak forking the repo, will help with whatever coding I can. Just to improve my programming skills more.
Did you guys give a thought about kexec? You could possibly boot a live kernel over your booted one (Google for it) I couldn't due to some **** with the bootloader on my OMAP. But give it a try on ur msm7k till you guys can get UART.

Hey op.. What exactly did u do to combine 2 sources together? Maybe u missed some file?

Sent you another pull request, somehow trying to get rid of that **** error (Which should be a warning!) Defined but unused function. Will try to make it compile properly today. But rest is upto you i.e testing and debugging.. can help fix up stuff though
The 'defined but unused function' errors are created by 'Wundef' and 'Werror' gcc flags in the kernel Makefile . To get rid of this remove '-Wundef' and '-Werror' options from KBUILD_CFLAGS (on line 373 of kernel Makefile)

Have u tried it?
I tried removing -Wundef , didn't work. -Werror was set for implicit function declaration.. which was correct. I compared the Makefile with another Source(3.0.y, and I don't get error for unused functions in it) the flags were same. So I don't know why I get a fatal warning in this source.
