[Q] Switching carriers / confusion - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys, I've been with Virgin Mobile, a prepaid subsidary of Sprint for a few years now. Virgin Mobile phones don't have SIM cards, so I've never delt with those before. I found out that T-Mobile has a prepaid service plan for the same price as my current plan, and I am wanting to switch over to them because I feel that Virgin Mobile has an appalling lack of good (or decent, for that matter) android phones. Here are a few of my questions:
1. Can I use a T-Mobile SIM card in any Unlocked phone? Even phones on another carrier such as Verizon or AT&T?
2. Is there a difference between T-Mobiles Pre-paid SIM cards and their contract SIM cards?
3. Would I have to get my phone / SIM card unlocked before I can use it in another phone?
Thanks for any help you can offer me.

Bump?

Perpaid sim cards do not differ from contract sim cards.
Your sim card will work in most unlocked phones from other carriers. Verizon uses CDMA technology, and does not use a sim card, but they do have a few world phones with sim card slots.
I've never used a prepaid plan, so I'm not sure as to which devices will be compatible. From what I understand, (I could be wrong), iPhones and Blackberry devices are the only devices not compatible with prepaid sim cards.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

[Q] Verizon Phones and GSM

Hi,
I have a friend in the US that uses Verizon as his Cell Company. He does a lot of traveling.
So, 2 statements and then what I am looking for:
1. International Phone calls on a Verizon Phone is prohibitive. (duh)
2. Verizon has a GREAT International Data Plan.
Is there a phone that can run on Verizon (CDMA) but has a 2 SIM card slots that (unlocked of course) that can be used with a local country SIM Card (GSM). AND also allows one to use the Verizon SIM to allow access to the Data Plan. Crazy? I do not think so. Possible? I am not sure.
Any guidance is appreciated as it would be nice to have only one smart phone when travelling.
Regards and thanks in advance.
Jim
I believe the CDMA touch pro 2 has a sim slot but it has to be unlooked oli and cmonex have a thread that unlocks your phone for a small fee head over to the touch pro 2 CDMA forum to find out more
Thanks, I will check it out.

Does the Skyrocket have a SIM socket?

I realise it's a bit of a noob question but I do a fair amount of travelling and would look at getting a Skyrocket if I can unlock it and use different SIMS depending on which country I'm in at the time, I know from previous experience that some of the North American providers 'hard' lock their phones to only their networks.
I currently am carrying a i9100 SGS2 which I'm pretty happy with however I'm also looking at the GNote and perhaps any other Samsung phones that support 4G(LTE) and will let me swap SIMS.....all suggestions and comments welcome.
Yes it has a sim card slot

I believe all GSM cell phones have SIM card slot(s). I am thinking to get the AT&T Samsung Skyrocket phone. But I am wondering about your statement/question ("if I can unlock it..." to use other carriers' (local) SIM cards while on travel outside AT&T service areas.
Has anybody succeeded to unclock it? And how?

If you have been a customer with AT&T for some time they will give you an unlock code if requested.

It depends on the device. If the device is new to AT&T they might not release the SIM unlock code. I have been with AT&T since they took over from L.A. Cellular and AT&T would not give me a SIM unlock code for my Infuse a month or so ago. The Customer Rep gave some BS excuses. Luckily Rooting and unlocking the SIM could be done without AT&T.
The Skyrocket is a different story, I am also interested but could not confirm that it could be SIM unlocked.
Some folks reporting some paying service could do it and some said they do not work.

Dumb question...Unlocked Sensation on Verizon

So...I have a company phone with Verizon and they (my company) won't let me activate an Android on my line.
My BlackBerry has a SIM card (and since I don't quite understand how factory SIM cards work, so...), can I just buy an Unlocked Sensation and stick my SIM card in it?
Thanks...
I don't think that's gonna work. Sensation is GSM phone, but verizon uses CDMA. It's not compatible.
Dang it...forgot about that...

Lg G2X how to unlock

I was wondering how to unlock this phone to use the non contract plan for t-mobile. Can i just buy a t-mobile sim card o is their more to it
If you put in a t-mobile sim it will work. You don't need to unlock it to use prepaid.

If it is a G2x P999 it is a T-Mobile branded phone. T-Mobile or Wind Mobile in Canada are the service providers for this brand.

So can i just use a sim from tmobile then or do i still have to unlock it i got it with a 2 yr contract so i think it is locked
If you already have a prepaid sim card that works, all you do is pop it in the phone and it'll work.
If you have a bad IMEI, the phone will never work...it'll just be an expensive brick that can only do WiFi.
The only reason you unlock it is if you want to use the phone on a completely different carrier, or for international sim use.

[Q] Difference between Verizon S3 normal and prepaid version?

Hi everyone, I intend to buy this phone from Walmart (selling at $150) and use it internationally with GSM carriers. However, the Walmart version is a prepaid phone in a prepaid specified box and someone on Youtube (who did a review video for this version) told me that this one does not have a sim card slot which make me feel so confusing. I would really appreciate if anyone who know about this matter can help me to clarify it.
Thank you so much.
the verizon prepaid version does not use gsm towers
you can only use cdma carriers
