[Q] Can't access settings anymore - help needed - HTC Sensation

Hi,
Just got new Sensation XE - s-off'ed, rooted, all good. Downloaded AnTuTu had a look at and decided that I didn't know enough to go playing with things like the CPU so uninstalled about 5 minutes later.
Now the odd the thing is, I can't access the Settings anymore (HTC Phone ones) - can't do it from the apps menu/list or from the desktop shortcut - everything time it just brings me straight back to the homescreen with the clock on it. It's a bit weird.
I've turned the phone off and on again in good IT tradition - reinstalled AnTuTu (haven't touched anything, just opened and closed it) but again no joy.
I am getting a bit concerned as I'd really need to have access to the settings.
So, any ideas? I really don't want to have to s-on and sned back to Orange after only 48 hours.
Cheers
Paddy

You don't have to send something like this back. It's definitely User Error, I don't see that you tried to
a) wipe your phone
b) reinstall rom
My assumption is that you've probably deleted an important /system/ app and brokeded it! Just reflash the rom...

Well what you can try to do berfore wiping and flashing a new rom, try go into recovery and wipe cache and go into advance>wipe dalvik cache after that do a fix permission in recovery and reboot phone, it will take awhile to boot up due to wiping cache after try to go into settings again see if it works,
if it doesnt then do as stated about jus back everything up, a wipe/data reset and flash new rom

[Resolved] [Q]AOKP boot loops after premature battery pull

I've had AOKP (can't remember which version..) installed for a while now and it's been acting funny, boot looping from time to time, but a simple battery pull fixed it each time.
Today I was turning off the phone to switch out the battery, and pulled out the battery before it had finished shutting down the "proper" way. Now when I turn it on, it gets stuck at "Initiating Swagger" with the pink unicorn. I've tried wiping the dalvik cache and formatting /cache.
I'd like to preserve some of the photos and texts, as well as all my apps which I, completely stupidly, didn't back up with Titanium Backup even though I've been meaning to for a little while now. I'm ready to reset and install a new rom if I have to, but I was wondering if there was a simple fix I'm overlooking since all I did was pull the battery out too early, rather than having done anything substantial like installing a new rom. Really appreciate any help, I've been phoneless all day and would love to not go through the motions of a whole new rom.

Looks like pulling the battery while it was shutting down corrupted some essential scripts on your device. So you have to flash a Rom to fix this. Dont worry coz there is something i do which can help you if you want to keep your apps n all. What you have to do is take a clockwork mod recovery backup right now. Then wipe everything including data, cache and dalvik cache. Now flash your Rom. If you want your apps n all then flash the same Rom you had. Now after it is flashed and working, boot to cwm recovery. select backup and restore then go for advanced restore. Select the backup you took. And restore data alone. This should make your phone look like it had never been flashed again with the Rom. Just like you had it before. And if even now the bootloop continues, do the same but first flash the kernel then Rom then do what i asked you to do. Hopes this helps...
Thanks man, that's a great idea, I didn't even think of that. Unfortunately I tried it, without and then with the kernel and it still didn't work.
What I ended up doing (for any of our posterior who happen upon this post) is installed the newest version of AOKP (which I actually didn't have previously), and downloaded an app called nandroid manager, which pulls apps/data, SMS messages, call logs, everything from any nandroid backup. I'm restoring all my stuff right now. Thank god.
Interestingly enough, even after I wiped everything multiple times, when I connected my phone to the computer it had all my photos & other data still on the internal storage. Weird as hell. But whatever.

That's because a wipe does not affect sd card or internal storage

Well.. It do affect internal memory on low phones. I am not sure bout devices having large internal storage but wiping data usually removes everything on my internal.

[Q] chameleon os superuser or root problem

I run chameleon os custom rom on Samsung infuse 4g. Superuser by Clockworkmod got binded/imbedded into rom. Was working fine, then out of nowhere got disabled under superuser settings and will not change back. I select apps only and all other choices but as soon as I select it, it switches back to disable. Google play no longer shows it as an app that I have downloaded so I can't get updates. I have tried installing it again both by just downloading it and by disabling it under app management and downloading it, but both ways when I open it tries to downloading binaries and fails. Same thing happens with any other superuser I try to download. I cannot get it to work. Please help. I no longer want chameleon as my rom because of too many issues with it constantly rebooting and internet only working sometimes. i want to try another rom but can't with superuser not working. You mean to say you cannot boot into CWM recovery and flash a different ROM? Interesting. I have an HTC, and the steps to rooting it are in a different order... that after unlocking the bootloader, you install CWM, and then optionally root the stock ROM with the SuperUser package (those who don't do the last step are usually flashing a ROM instead of mucking around for another second with the stock OS).
SU shouldn't be needed for custom recovery. But maybe Chameleon does something weird like not give you a custom recovery you can boot into? If that's the case, you could pop the device into download mode and go back to stock with Odin, effectively starting from scratch.
still need help, thank you.
I am starting to believe more than before that the actual problem is that somehow my phone got unrooted. How do I set my phone in download mode and use Odin? I usually wipe the cache, install the rom, install gapps, wipe cache partition, and wipe dalvik cache. I have never flashed a rom before. Or even better what is the best way to root my phone again now that I am using chameleon? I believe if I can do that it will fix my problems and I can install cyanfox (the latest rom I have downloaded). Do I use super one click? That is what I think I used before but now that I am not using stock rom I don't know what to use.

If you are unable to get into ClockWorkMod recovery (hold Vol-Up+Vol-Dn keys while pressing Pwr button) and have it do anything (so your wipe, install, gapps, dalvik - that process would be called flashing). Then I would Odin back to stock.
For this, you would need to get into download mode. IIRC (just sold my Infuse), it is (with the device fully turned off) hold both volume buttons in while inserting the micro usb cable (that is subsequently inserted into your PC). The ODIN program comes with the download packages (hopefully), so extract the whole package, and run that.
Odin should pick up the phone in the first column as "COMX" (e.g. "COM5"). You are good to flash. To the right, there are PHONE and PDA buttons, click on each, and select the corresponding file (that was also in the package) for each (so PHONE will have something like PHONE.tgz.md5). Once both files are loaded, make sure re-partition is UN-checked, and press Start (or Go, or whatever the action word is). This will take a few minutes, but the COMX column should highlight green with "SUCCESS" in the end.
That's all there is to it. The reason why I'm shying away from SuperOneClick is that it was designed for stock gingerbread/froyo, so it has the potential of breaking something. Hope this helps.
EDIT:
Alternatively, you could try pushing su to the device with adb (depends on how you lost root):
Code:
adb shell mount -o rw,remount -t ext4 /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system /system
adb push su /system/xbin/
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
... with this file (extracted).

I am now running cyanfox which runs android 4.4 and Google.process.gapps has stopped keeps popping up. To get rid of it I have to do a factory reset but after a few days it always comes back. I have Googled the problem and tried numerous things to try to fix it but everything only works temporary. What should I do besides get another phone? I can't afford that right now.

I wouldn;t suggest another phoen is things are working well genrally. The problem could lie in the GApps package or the ROM itself. I use the PA Gapps package. If you are having rouble with that one, try from a different date. Just wipe dlavik in between to prevent any nastyness.
If it still persists, try another ROM, like Carbon.
tried installing the new gapps
So far, so good but I won't know for sure for a few days. I'll keep you up to date. Thank you
what version of android is carbon?
Do you have the link for carbon rom for Samsung infuse 4g? And what version of android is it? My phone runs better with those gapps but I am still getting the same problems. I will give it a try but if carbon doesn't work I am definitely going to have to just get another phone. So far I'm. 0-2 on custom roms for this phone. I thought cyanfox would of worked cause I got it off of xda, which really makes me think this phone has some sort of hardware problem but carbon has been around longer. So maybe it will work better.
Carbon is on XDA as well too, and it is based on CM 11 / Android 4.4 Kitkat:

Hope this works for you... :fingers-crossed:
problems solved
It appears it was definitely a problem with the ROM. Phone has been operating 100% better. :victory: My cache needs to be cleared frequently and some minor problems with the Facebook back but when isn't there problems with Facebook lol. But as soon as I clean out the cache from my apps, everything is running like new again. I greatly appreciate your help. I can't thank you enough.
Was working great then more problems
Joel,
Carbon was running great for me but then all of a sudden android.process.acore has stopped kept popping up along with all sort of other things stopping then eventually GApps not working again. I have erased my contacts, Erased Media, unchecked all my Syncs, I have tried all sorts of other Gapps packages and even another ROM (cyanogen 11) and they work to begin with then the same problems keep coming back. Is it because I went from Gingerbread right to Kitkat? My phone hasn't worked for about a week now with me trying all different ways to fix it. Do I need to install Ice Cream Sandwich then Jellybean before going to Kitkat or do I just need to try even more GApps? I used to install new ROMs all the time but android has changed so much over the last couple years and when i had to get rid of my old phone and went back to my Infuse 4g the old ROM was just completely outdated and now I can't seem to get this right. The phone itself is still a great phone and I don't understand why I am having these issues. I factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, install new ROM, install GApps, wipe cache again, and wipe dalvik again. I usually don't wipe the cache or the dalvik until after the ROM and GApps install but just lately have been doing the extra wipe just in-case because nothing else is working. But that has failed too. You have been a great help so far and I can't seem to fix this on my own, so again I turn to you for help. Please help me figure this out.

It's possible. I mentioned this before somewhere, but this could be the after-effect of a small /datadata partition, which having a separate partition is standard in a KitKat ROM (at least for this phone). When it fills up, there's no telling what happens.
Both BeanStalk and CM11 have /datadata partition alternatives (the separate partition has been abandoned) built in. You may want to try one of those:

Unfortunately I couldn't find something similar for Carbon.
Thank you!!!!!!
I hate to count my chickens before they're hatched but I truly believe that was the problem. Even Facebook works now. But I thought I had it fixed before then just under a week and it completely messed up and I couldn't even get it to work for a day after that. But it works now. I can't thank you enough. If you ever come across one for Carbon ROM please let me know. This is a good ROM but I liked Carbon better. Again, thank you Joel. :good::good:
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to bother you again Joel but I have a major problem again and I dont even know wht happenned. You have helped me through evrything so far and I couldn't be more thankful. There may be nothing you can do to help me, I don't know. I was using my phone as A Wifi Hotspot when out of know where as soon as i got on facebook on my tablet my phone rebooted on it's own into Clockworkmod recovery. when I reboot it, it goes right back into recovery, it wont read the internal sd card and it wont install any zip off any inserted sd card(it reads them but wont install anything, it always pops up with android guy on his back with a red X and a generic error). it lets me erase cache but won't erase delvik cache or format anything, the screen just flashes and it pops back a screen. I dont think the phone overheated because it wasnt hot to the touch at all. I was only using it as a wifi hotspot for about 30 minutes when it happenned. i had used it as a hotspot many times before with no problems and i dont know how it woud be a virus when i wasnt on any abnormal sites. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

If you can get into Download Mode, I would Odin back to stock. Are you AT&T or Rogers? There are a couple recent threads in this forum with download links, although people have been having difficulties with finding the AT&T variety.
Unfortunately, that's all I can recommend. Good luck.
we'll see how this works out
I just checked and it will go into download mode. So I guess I just need to find the AT&T thread of Oden and hopefully that works. I have never done it that way before but I read your previous response much earlier in this thread on how to do it and it sounds pretty simple so hopefully I can do it. If you can find a link to the at&t version before me it would definitely help but I will see what I can find.

I would recommend Option D for what you need, but AFAIK, the links on this page are dead.
If you go to the last page though, there is a link for Option C, which would work for your needs. Hope this helps.

[Q] Is my Galaxy Tap2 Bricked? Keep rebooting.....

Hi bro, i need some help here, suddenly my GT2 (GSM) will auto reboot after every 15-60 minute. It was running fine for the past 10 month since have install cyanogenmod cm-10.1.3.
The weird part is, not only it reboot, it will do a rollback to a fix setting every time it reboot.
- Let say, as a normal you have many application install, many photo or file in your phone
How it happen, as a normal user, I went to uninstall any application via application manager or Delete some photo from my gallery. It show success deleted..... but soon after few minute my phone rebooted by itself. After this reboot i notice what i just delete/remove come back again. Seems like there is a restore being done.
I also try to reset to setting using phone manager, and it fail
I try to boot in to recover mode, such as
clear data/factory reset
clear cache
go to advanced>wipr dalvic
Install cyanogenmod cm-10.1.3, cyanogenmod cm-10.1.2 or even cyanogenmod cm-10.1.1
I have try clear data/factory reset, clear cache, go to advanced>wipr dalvic
or any other combine setting i can think of.... it fail too
once i reboot my phone, it still went back to this Fix Setting, every thing just come back.....
even i select install new OS
Any ideas what happen?
Thanks

Read about these issues from various thread, this is happened due to broken emmc. The only step will have to replace it.
If someone can developed a kernel to prevent this issue which is happen to omap4 device
Unfortunately most kernel, maybe all current kernel, did not apply this.

So this is due to broken emmc, and i need to ask someone to replace it at some cost
is there a way to check the issue is emmc or just some software/firmware/rom issue
Till now, my phone still stay the same, it will reboot after sometime. I even try to flash it with other ROMS and even update my phone with the latest CWM or PhilZ, i even get the message of update success/status ok. But after a reboot, my phone still went back/revert to that same "OLD" setting with every thing still there. Restore to factory still fail, look like my phone is as good as a brick phone...
Anyone know of a way to resolve it?

Successfully got around bootloader sprint g900p s5 Bog1 firmware

Hello I'm sending this post now because I'm going to need somebody's assistance. A quick story I have been doing this for about 3 months as far as my first root to a flashaholic. I have successfully got around my bootloader. The problem is I'm not 100% sure how. I have a good idea of what I did but I don't know exactly as I am NOT a dev and I am new to this. I catch on rather quickly though and have found a passion for modifying my android and this site has been my number one contributor. My goal is to give back and help others out as well. I started off by editing permissions in my system file along with floating feature, csc, features and the customer XML. It was somewhere right in one of those files that I did this.. I simply changed the permission or function and immediately when I did I was prompted by super user to let boot animations by JRummy apps creator of the toolbox to allow permission which I did. The problem is as I didn't realize what I did at the time until I reset it as I changed about 10 different things. About a week prior I tried installing the boot animation into different file folders which was the two options that they suggest. Nothing happened of course my bootloader is locked and i wasn't surprised. Well I changed the permissions that shouldn't have in the calling feature section and I got stuck with force close force close so I hard reset into the factory recovery and trief to clear the cache partition which was unsuccessful. I then decided to install philz custom recovery so I could do a good clean out because obviously the factory recovery is garbage but every time I tried to change it it would stick me in a boot loop after being successfully flashed and in use for at least 24 hours. After I wiped the dalvik cache and the cache partition with Phils I then decided to try one last flash with a custom ROM and everything flashed fine. But once it rebooted I noticed a completely different boot animation and to my amazement it ended up booting and upgrading all my apps it started up normal. The rom I installed was real rwilco's mostly stock version 1.2 G900PVPU3BOG1. After that I decided I was going to take another chance and flash a few modification files. Once again succesfull. This morning I decided I was going to try to do a backup and restore. I backed it up with Phil's recovery and then I restored it. Restoring gave me a bit of a problem as I had to delete the cache and the dalvik cache. I then restarted the system the first time it didn't work or I didn't wait long enough I'm not sure. The second time I hard reset it introduced a normal boot and it started back up and was upgrading all 590 something after they have. Before I did any of this I was working away at a stock rom that I managed to modify a file in. This would be the aboot.mdn i believe. I was able to open it up into a notepad and replace it with the older version in the text part only so the file name itself stayed the same. I don't know if that played a major part to it or not. But I have sense flash recovery and files without getting stuck into a bootloop and with this new firmware almost every time I turned it off and on it would put me in a boot loop just because I was rooted. I attempted to simply change a new battery that I ordered powered off replace battery powered back on and was stuck in a boot loop. I have been making it my goal to somehow crack this thing. This is where I need help because I am still a noob I always just happened to poke in the right places I could care less about reaching 10 posts so I can post links if you like after I upload my information you can go ahead and reset that. I am here because I can seriously help and this website has been a major contributor to me becoming a flashaholic. I am at work right now and have already attempted but I'll go down to a 3G signal if that. I have absolutely no reliable internet here but within 5 hours I will be home uploading to my Google Drive a copy of my manifest and CSC, permissions, and features files. I have also created a clockwork recovery which I am going to upload as well I need somebody to help me go through these and pinpoint exactly what I did so we can get a legit thread with the fix. I somehow basically flashed a new boot animation which i think is blocking my other boot. I have confirm this working I have 2 screenshots I'm going to upload. Anybody with real experience and actually knows what they're doing I would appreciate your help in this matter.. And actually knows what they're doing I would appreciate your help in this matter. I just need to get home to my laptop to upload. Thanks xda you guys are awesome and I hope this is finally my opportunity to contribute and give back.
i ran out of time and couldnt proofread. sorry about that lol'
in my drive account i have a 1) factory rom that i modded aboot.mbn. 2) The backup "philz" cwm recovery. its my full backup apps and all down to the boot image that replaced the sprint yellow screen and the samgsung boot logo. 3) The system files that i have modified.. csc, features, floating feature, customer xml... 3) screenshots of rom info and adding others of some of the mods as we speak. still need 15 mins to finish uploading the sys files
if someone can figure out exactly what i did we have a fix. i have since flashed 30+ mods with no bootloop. email is [email protected] just incase for contact purposes
h t t p s: // drive. google. com / drive / folders / 0B5AfudcH1XDQMVFZdFhVTFdYQ0U---has many spaces only way to fit link
the system files have been diificult to et into my drive. most did not want to copy and the size themself. the full custom restore is in my drive already along with some screens. i have also set my boot animations to random and have about 20 or so cycling. also after restore make sure to wipe dalvick cache and cache. also some of the apps might fc i didnt have them fully restored when i created backup. i added a backup file in drive that has full copy.

Stuck in a bootloop + CWM question

Edit: Solved, see bottom
ROM (D6633_Customized HK_1290-5630_23.4.A.0.546_R6C_HK_SuperSU2.46_XZDR2.8.21-signedv2)
Bit of a dumb move on my part. It all started when my snapchat stopped working, I updated, and then Titanium Backup wouldn't restore the data properly (giving me "parse error"). I was trying to fix that and read online that sometimes this is caused by improper permissions, so I booted into recovery mode, couldn't find the option, but somehow decided "hey, maybe my root permission (?) is wrong slash it's 6am and I just watched a wild 2016 election end" and I hit the button. Now my phone is stuck in a bootloop.
So my question:
1) What exactly does re-root phone do (in CWM), and why would that have messed me up? Is it because I have a pre-rooted rom?
2) I wiped cache and delvik and it doesn't help
3) How do I fix this? I was thinking of loading a SuperSU zip on the SD card from my computer and flashing that, assuming somehow a corrupted root is at fault. I can't seem to get the thing in ADB mode as a side note.
3b) If that seems like a good idea, does it matter what one I use?
4) If I reflash the ROM, it should keep my apps and stuff, ya? I don't actually care if my phone is crippled, I just need it to work long enough to properly back up some media, and mainly get my whatsapp over to my new SIM card. If I can't get in it's forever stuck on my old number which I don't have the SIM for anymore.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Edit: I don't know how to delete this. Anyways, with other resources I found out that because I used a pre-rooted ROM, there were issues with using CWM to try to do the rooting with its built in functions, softbricking the phone. Reflashing the original pre-rooted ROM worked fine.
