[Q] Nexus S or Galaxy S Plus or nothing? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have at the moment a HTC Desire, and I would like to switch to something faster, nicer and better looking
Now I found a few ( cheap ) phones, which were the best ones.
That are the Nexus S and the Galaxy S Plus, what are you recommending?
The Galaxy S Plus has a faster processor. But the battery was better from Nexus S, and nexus s would get ( most of ) all updates.
What are you recommending? Would the Nexus S still worth the buying?
Thanks!
Edit: Or do you have a good review about the differences about them?

I know some1 with the SGS+ and its a fast phone but not even comparable with my SGS2.
Nexus S had a good ICS port and will get it official so i guess its still good enough to buy. Also the nexus s isnt very pricey: only 250 euro in my country (Netherlands).
Hope u make a good and pleased choice

That's just the reason I don't know what to choose, the Nexus S is 250 euro, and the Galaxy S plus is 270 euro... And the Nexus S would get official ICS... And is it fast enough to run a lot of games? To run for example Riptide GP? ( that water racing game)? And it has multi-touch?
@patpeewee You are the first one who replies xD on AndroidWorld no one did answer my question, it was nearly the same as this one. Thanks for that.

might as well stay with what you have, and wait for next year new phones

Yeah, but the nice phones are always 500 euro... Thats just the problem, I don't want to give so much money for a phone. Thatś just why this is a great change to get a new one I think.

Sorry, but I made it in the Q&A section...

here's a compiled list of the GN issues http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362556

That link is going to the Galaxy Nexus topic, but that one is really too expensive.
Anybody who has a few good things about both phones?

my bad, i was thinking you were also comparing that one
if that is not the case, then definitely stay with what you got
Nexus S and I9000 plus is the same as Desire

Then why did you have had all of them?

Poll!
Anymore poll voters? Please?

I've been looking at both as a possible replacement for my N1, if it were to die for any reason. Because i prefer a smaller screen those two devices are the only ones on my shortlist.
The SGS+ i ruled out because of lack of dev support and the only NS i can get is SLCD, not SAMOLED which pretty much rules that out too. Because of the low price i'd probably settle for it in a pinch though.
Perhaps you should do what i am and just keep what you have until you have to replace it?

I understand why you are saying that. But my parents and brother are having the galaxy s... I am using my phone the most, and it's annoying if they could run multiple games, which are lagging at mine Desire. That's just why I want a new one, which is even good as theirs... Nexus St is having the same processor... So it will be even fast as theirs... Please more voters!

Should I buy Nexus S?

I'm about to order a nexus s. I'm currently on motorola milestone which has a locked bootloader so I can't make my full custom roms. Is nexus S a good deal or I should know something about it before buying?
Advice would be really helpful.. thanks in advance.

there are like 7 pages in another thread about this.. go read that
yes its a good phone, people will probably come here and troll and say that its not good.
If you have to ask you should buy an iPhone.
lol ^ this
I just don't get why people make these threads. There are just so many of them, and in the end.. the OP is the decider. We as users don't decide whether or not you get it. We shouldn't be here just to persuade one person to get a Nexus S, you're posting in a forum where the majority of the users have the phone. So obviously, its going to be biased posts.
Go do your own research and figure out if its for you. Especially when there are so many other threads about this.
^ it's kind of hard for them to decide based off others opinions on the NS. This board is "General" meaning this is where someone would post a topic like this. And the OP isn't asking for unbiased opinions on the NS, just pros and cons. Would you ask this question on the Thunderbolt forum? Probably not...
A question like this is tailored specifically to the person asking, regardless of there being other topics similar, they OPs own question and answers they receive are unique.

No but if you were to ask. Should I get a Thunderbolt or a Nexus S on a Thunderbolt forum. Of course the majority will say Thunderbolt. And there is another "Should I get a Nexus S" thread with the pros and cons listed.
I was asking myself this question 2 months ago and ended up buying it. If I could go back I would have waited for the next successor for the nexus s. That being said, if I had to buy a phone right now I would get it
I think there are a lot of these threads and on the surface they seem silly especially to ask in the forum full of fans. But I also think it's valid, who better to ask about a product than someone who owns it. Maybe the bothersome part of the question is not what he asked but how he worded it.

If your are really looking for a solid reliable phone that has the bootloader that can be very easily unlocked to flash roms and root it in 3.5 min lol then this is the phone for you. I know there's alot of people on here saying that yes you should get it no your getting obvious good feedback on a forum full of people that love this phone but you'll need to look at the pro's and cons tho. First is that I went from a Evo 4g lots of developers on that bad boy then to a g2 still HTC and lots for developers working on ports everyday then to the nexus s all in about a month. now I do have an amazing phone nothing really to complain about BUT that if your a flashaholic there really isn't much which does stink but if you have found a great rom with all the features you need in a everyday use then your good like me. I have found the best rom with performance built right in with great battery life and all the nice little features that I need to keep me happy. Then there's the cons Samsung made this phone and porting and roms wont be flowing out the door. there's a few features that a lower phone really can't say lower but the galaxy s phone have the glitz and Glam of features that where taken away to give us the pure google experience. So the media hub is gone the TV out put features the this the that is all gone but if you like to have a really stable newish 2.3 out the gate then I would get it. I had only seems pics of the nexus s and I normally do a full look over and see YouTube videos on the good and bad but I took the leap and got it off Craigslist and didn't do the homework and man was I surprised I'm so happy I got it for the price I did and how sweet this phone and the potential it has.

For what it's worth, I'm probably returning my NS. After the iPhone 4, Desire Z and the Atrix in the past few months, the NS feels CHEAP. I hate even holding it. Especially since the N1 was one of the greatest phones I've used in terms of it's design.
I would vote for the Atrix, its a dual-core, it's smoother that the NS, yes, you don't have too many roms, but who cares... it works really well with the stock after you freeze Blur.
I hope Google doesn't cheap out the next Nexus.

I purchased the phone the day it released, and it's still my favorite.
Picked up my Nexus S a week ago. I have owned them all, and this Nexus S is my favorite. I had the iPhone 4, and it was like a toy compared to the Nexus S. The Atrix has nice hardware specs, but the Nexus is just as fast and isn't locked out from ROMS.

Which of these two phones to buy?

I'm searching for the best replacement for my good old "Super" HD2.
I'm trying to decide between HTC Sensation or Samsung Galaxy S2.
Anyone can help me decide?
They are both very good phones and i'm thinking of trying the SGS2 because i have been a Big fan of HTC and Sence, but now I starting to get curious about SGS2.
Please give me some help decide.
I'm going to post this same question on the SGS2 forum to compare the answers.

I think from this thread you will get everyone telling you to get the sensation and the one on the SgS2 forum they will be telling you to get that
I say try both and decide for yourself, after all it's you that's using it
... ... ... ...
From all the reviews and tests I read on the net, SGS2 wins all the most important ones, but I'm thinking that HTC is always a better phone for the future becose developers tend to turn to HTC devices more that others.
So I think that with Sensation I will get more costume Roms and more unofficial develepment.
For me the most important is not the present speed of the phones, because I know that will change in the future with new roms and costume roms.
The most important for me is the Costume roms support and unofficial developers support.

Got my Sensation yesterday unlocked on Vodafone upgrade. I have to say that after using SGS2 for 4 weeks Sensation is little bit disappointment. Available memory out of the box with no apps installed is about 140MB (compared to 520MB on SGS2). Can't get used to new Sense UI but I've loved it on my old Hero. SGS2 also is much faster out of the box. Sensation feels nice in the hand, it's more "solid" compared to plastic SGS2 but seems to be a little bulky and not as sleek as SGS2. One thing i've found better on Sensation is wifi signal strength which is really good. As i am quite impatient person i don't wanna wait for unlocked bootloader too. I'm sorry HTC, but Sensation goes on sale. :/
Bear in mind that is my personal opinion.
Edit:
SGS is very easy to flash, you can even unlock it to sim free with no hassle. Regarding custom roms Samsung gave free SGS2 to Cyanogen team, so soon we should expect some CM7 love. Also MIUI port is coming soon.

But without using any search buttons, it would seem.
I think there's another thread about that question somewhere.
I went back and forth on the spec for hours and hours. However, once I got to play with both phones in the store the answer was clear in a matter of seconds.
While you can't buy a bad phone between these two, you can certainly buy the wrong one for you. Optimized ROMS will find their way to both phones sooner or later, so I wouldn't worry about performance too much. How the phone feels in your hand or how you experience qHD vs SuperAMOLED+ is hard to change though. I highly recommend you go out and try both phones.
In all honesty, The Galaxy S II may have slightly better hardware, but TouchWiz ruins it. I know that you've already decided, but as far as overrall phones, no one beats HTC.
Hardware isn't slightly better, it's much better. Only metal casing, wifi strength and screen resolution (but not a screen quality) is better in Sensation. Personally as soon as I rooted my SGS2 I started using ADW Launcher. Now I'm using Regina 3D Launcher and really love it!
I don't care how good the hardware on the Samsung is compare to Sensation,I'll go with HTC everyday. All Samsung phone is a piss of ****, it feel like a toy ,cheap plastic, it'll breakdown in no time. Samsung always want to be ahead on tech and rushing their release making their phone plan rubbish.

I would have done the same thing if I could. I am with T-Mobile so I wouldn't get 3G from it so that would make it basically worthless to me. I am also a big HTC fan, I have only ever owned HTC Android phones since the G1 but the SGS2 does have better hardware specs. I am jealous of their ram and 21mbps data speed. If the Sensation came with those two things it would make it the perfect phone to me.

[Q] new phone advice?

hi guys n girls
looking at getting a new phone tomorrow and just wondering what u guys would recomend
ive been looking at the htc evo 3d
the galaxy s 2
and the galaxy note
really not interested in an iphone though as i hate apple
any advice would be greatly recieved,
many thanks
steve
ps current phone is the galaxy s 1
I have an Evo 3D and enjoy it, the Galaxy 2 is excellent as well. The Note is not in the US yet, but I plan on getting one soon. AT&T looks like they will have it first, though I somewhat prefer Verizon.
At the end of the day there are a lot of good phones, it depends on what the carrier has. I could go either way on AT&T and Verizon, so I'll probably go with whoever get's the Note/Journal first.
galaxy s2 if u want good performance and nice phone
Hi Steve,
Well you said it all by saying the names of the candidates. I wouldn't get the HTC because either SGS2 and Note have a really good performance (better than HTC Evo 3D i'd say), also i've known HTCs for having bad camera performances..
I have the SGS2 and it's just amazing, i love how smooth and fast it is.
If you want a bigger screen then you know the Note is for you, you can also use it to make drawings and stuff like that if you're creative or in the other way around, if you want 3D, the HTC is your phone.
In my opinion i'd get the SGS2, i don't really like HTC phones because of their UI and not really good performances overall.
EDIT: also, the SGS2's camera is really good imo, i love its quality and the videos are stunning as well. Don't forget how thin and light it is!
Good luck on your decission
Galaxy note is better if you like a big screen
thanks for the replies,
just thought are there any other phones (uk market) that anyone would recomend over these
i do like the idea of a large screen and also like the idea of 3d photos
y do they make it so hard to choose now lol
cheers
steve
Lol yeah, you could check LG phones or Sony Ericsson Experia (or future Sony only Experia), but i don't recommend LG because of their bad SO update reputation
There's a lot to choose, but my suggestion is the SGS2 or Note.
Depends on your price. I had a galaxy s 2. But the forums were full of idiots and noob questions. Plus being honest what the hell is the point in all that power when battery isn't the best.
Anyhow Bought a nexus s unlocked from cpw for 199 and put the extra 150 towards a holiday. And now I have a gorgeous looking phone with a great community behind it. And great support from Google. No UI over the the phone. So despite not being dual core. Its fast.
And don't even start about quadrant!!!!!! Lol

Gal Nex worth it now?

So I'm done with the sensation, all the "remove all sense, add fast in topic title" devs (no offence, but I personally think there's too many of this already).
I'm now thinking of getting a Gal Nex, only because of the AOSP development over there. but I am a little worried it might be slower than my sensation (1.5ghz vs 1.2, anyone? and the gpu?)
So in your honest opinion, do you think an upgrade to the gal nex is okay?
(btw, please don't go "if you didn't like sense and want aosp why did you buy the sensation. I got this because of the hardware, not some crappy sluggish UI HTC made.)

ive been through many phones already. i came back to the sensation because the specs of the current phones are all the same in some way. i chose sensation for build quality, looks, and camera. and especially with the One series coming out, wait for it.
Galaxy nexus is not an upgrade from sensation, it is a side grade. It's better in some ways but worse in others.

As above poster said, it's a "side-grade" rather than an upgrade. It's most likely that cpu doesn't make that much noticable difference: 1.2 should be enough to run contemporary apps (they're usually designed to be compatible with slower phones, hence why iPhone can get away with underclocking for instance), especially since you don't game. Ditto for the GPU. This should also lead to better battery life - along with having a more powerful battery, of course.
That said, there are a lot of quirks with the Nexus itself (and, to some extent, Samsung's handling of it). Camera, MTP USB protocol only, nonremovable SD card, question of whether car dock will ever be made. Make sure you research and are happy with all of them before buying.
It's been a few months, so the Nexus should be getting pretty cheap. I would get it for at most $600 U.S. Price promotions often come out here, though I'm not sure about in your geographical location.
I assume you know about the alternatives showcased in MWC that are coming out in a few months. Huawei Ascend D (the "fastest phone") is rumored to come with stock ICS for example. Galaxy Nexus is still probably the best bet right now for longer term dev support, however.

There are some amaizing development on diffrent kernels on the GN. So with a costum kernel you will brobably not feel like it´s going slower atleast...
Well, the Galaxy Nexus is a great phone, so is all of the Galaxy lines and it's variants.
But it is rumored that the S3 will come out within 6 months. If you have patience wait for that
If not go with the Galaxy Nexus, or Galaxy S2.
Personally an Infuse 4g User (Variant of the S2).
I really wouldnt get the Nexus and go for the S2 or wait a month or two for the Htc one X and im sure there will be AOSP roms for it soon
The one X looks like a beast even with the htc sense on it
The Galaxy Nexus is an awesome buy, the trouble with always waiting is that you end up buying nothing
As said its a side grade, but you get the benefit of quick novelty updates. Personally I would wait for A15 cored phones instead.
$1 gets you a reply
And this is why I bought my Nexus before MWC ...

YES YES YES, nexus ALWAYS gets support from google no matter what, for about 2 years. The one thing I have witnessed with android is horrible support and update timelines for every phone other than the nexus line. Plus if you're not happy, the nexus always has a rather big dev community
there are some really good changes in the new one so I think its better to go for a new one if you really like

A big doubt about CPU

I know that is a very trend topic but i am going to buy the HTC One S and i want be very sure.
The version that our store sells is the Z560e, i read that is a bit slower and use more battery but is a substantial difference ?
There are a big difference talking about modding ?
i am so unsure.

About modding yes, htc otas come in a longer time. JB took about three more months. The dev community support is also far smaller.
About the GS2: in my opinion (and not only mine) the One S (I have the other variant, though) is better in everything... But most of all, it's htc software that is far better optimized and functional. If you're going to stick with stock software I suggest that you buy it immediately! Otherwise the question is more arguable, but I would go with the One S in the end.
