So, here's my story. I am trying to gain root access to my Galaxy S II Skyrocket. I see a lot of posts/replies of other people having success with SuperOneClick 2.2 using the zerg exploit but for some reason mine just hangs and doesn't go any further. To kind of backtrack, I was able to root my first Galaxy S II Skyrocket, but then I had charging issues so I exchanged it for a replacement. Now, the replacement will not root. And even with the first one I had a hard time gaining root. It took me several, several attempts to get it working. I don't understand what I'm missing. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Few things...
- Samsung Galaxy S II is currently on stock 2.3.5 with firmware UCKJ2
- USB debugging has been turned on
- Samsung USB drivers have been successfully installed on PC
- Using Windows XP
- Using SuperOneClick 2.2 with zerg exploit
- Tried uninstalling USB drivers and reinstalling
The status one the SuperOneClick is as follows...
Killing ADB server
Starting ADB server
Waiting for device...
That's it. Nothing else beyond that. And on the right hand side it indicates this...
It's keep stating that 'daemon not running... starting in now on port 5037' and it keeps looping and eventually does not move.
I've tried using different methods of rooting this such as Skyrocket-Easy-Root and Doom's EasyRoot 1.0 and the 'daemon not running... starting it now on port 5037' message occurs on those as well.
PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON because the regular Samsung Galaxy S II and other devices go through just fine. I know it can be done because obviously other users are successful with root and I was too with my first Skyrocket.
The only advice that "I" can give you is to post in the correct forum. You'll likely get a much quicker response than posting in the development section. I'm sure there's someone over there willing to help you. Good luck my friend.

install through cwm it may fail once or twice but it will work

Use this method ..... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526
You use odin to flash cwm recovery tar......then flash the super user zip in cwm.....
The files needed and instructions are in that thread....read them carefully, and follow them exactly ....its really very easy
Try to do factory wipe again. I was having problem rooting after Odin. I did a factory wipe and www tried it and it worked.

Do THIS. I'm not sure why you were even trying all that other stuff, but this is the proper root and CWM installation method.

I just got my infuse yesterday, i tried using the rage against the cage root program(infuserootunlock), but even after installing kies and my drivers. it still says error: device not found. But, i can adb to the device.. So, after trying that a couple times(none being successful). I decided to use superoneclick, which has now frozen pushing su-v2... Im hoping it will work, but i dont see anything happening on the phone...
What can i do to root? Can i push an update.zip? Ive had a captivate and it was reletively easy to do.

When you root the Infuse you will not see anything happening on the phone screen itself.
If you cannot root and all else fails, here is a way you can over come the problem: You can put your phone into "download" mode and flash this froyo 2.2.1 odin flash rom from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251&highlight=unbrick
I know your phone is NOT bricked but if you read all the information in the link above you will see that if all else fails and you cannot root, just follow the step by step guide in the link using Odin3 (tar file rom flasher).
After you flashed the phone you can simply use the superoneclick to root it.
I have done this several times already. After you root it and install Rom Manager you will be able to install/flash custom roms the zip file method which all the devs here use for their custom roms.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
I had that same problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. Tried bout everything I could think of even different usb port. It took alot of trial and error to be honest I dont even know what I did. Just that I finally got it to work. Both the one click and the unlook/root.
It took me 4 tries with super one click. I unplugged - remounted then unmounted SD card - switched USB ports and it finally took.

I've tried every method. Odin doesn't recognize my phone. I've downloaded drivers a half dozen times. I've gotten every file set up only to have odin just sit there without giving me a com.
Then I've tried several versions of z4, oneclickroot, and gingerbreak. Nothing works. I'm wondering if there's just no way to root or flash my phone.
I'm on an sgs i500.04
Gingerbread 2.3.5
K EI20
Was rooted with oneclick till update, through kies, to gingerbread.
Cspire.
Anyone please help. I'm going a little crazy over this.
i give up
I guess a way just doesn't exist for my phone.
Things I've tried unsuccessfully:
DoomLorD.zip (every version) (Unable to copy SU files, reboot, not rooted)
OneClick (every version)
Gingerbreak ( '' )
z4
SDK with adb recovery (E:signature verification failed)
Odin (will not recognize my phone in download mode)
Cannot get heimdall(sp) do download.? probably couldnt use it anyway.
I thought to wait on a rooted ICS version, and would love to flash that to my phone, but have no ODIN! Go figure.
Anyway, I guess there is just not a way to do my phone. It resists all methods. Does anyone else with a i500 Showcase on the kies update to gingerbread 2.3.5 have this problem? Is this Cspire gingerbread unhackable?
Hey, sent you a pm...

I have tried to root my Samsung galaxy s running 2.3.5 with base-band s:i500.04 K.EI20 for months since updating with kies. I've tried all of the same methods listed by the original poster has anyone worked out this issue as of yet? Please help if possible.

Who is your carrier?
jbreakfield, you're alive?
samsung drivers
Do you have proper samsung drivers installed for your windows version..Also check to see if usb debugging is activated. Im no expert but hopefully this helps.
Another idea is to try a different usb port. I had one go bad.
I spent about a day uninstalling, rebooting, installing several different drivers. Also rebooting after each new install. No matter what I did ODIN wouldn't see my phone.
I got the idea to try another usb on the back of my desktop pc.
ODIN finally connected!
Hope this helps. Regards.

enable debugging on the phone, plug it in, if you need drivers use the ones inside the zip file. Run the program and hopefully the rest is pretty self-explanatory.

I am just starting to learn about android and I was having a bit of difficulty following other peoples tutorials on how to root a phone. I have a samsung galaxy s 4g for tmobile with firmware 2.2.1 and am looking to root the phone. If there is another topic explaining this clearly feel free to link me to it and then close the topic. All I need is a tutorial on how to root my phone because I'm rather afraid I'm going to brick it on accident. Sorry if I broke any rules mods, I'm just getting started on android...
You can use superoneclick to root it. Very very easy.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
okay so get superoneclick from here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
And can someone just give me a very brief step by step on how to do it? I have USB debugging enabled btw, should I disable it or? And I know for you guys its REALLY easy what I'm asking, so sorry about that, I'm just not very experienced about android.
UPDATE: I'm following the video at the end of the superoneclick topic.
You can also use Odin to flash a modded kernel that will give root and custom clockwork mod recovery.

Search the forum for "GB ext4 starter pack". I can't get the link from the mobile app.

Or give superoneclick another shot. It does take a bit sometimes and may seem frozen. I had to do it twice for it to work on gingerbread. Also make sure you have the current version. Do a google search for it and find the most up to date one.

Last option is to read up on flashing and try one of raver's kick ass roms. They are rooted.

How to put latest version of android on SGS4G
Sorry about the numerous posts, I have now successfully rooted my phone (I know its not impressive...). Now I have a few questions:
1. How do I put the latest stock android on my SGS4G? Or the latest "good" version of android on my SGS4G?
2. Since the phone is default on tmobile, I was wondering, will I still be able to do wifi calls? What I mean by that is, when I got the phone, it had a wifi calling app that turned off cell phone connections whenever I had wifi.
3. Will I be able to tether without tmobile charging me for tethering? I do have a data plan.
4. I know rooting is basically like gaining administrator access, but what are the biggest advantages of rooting? Just a personal question to you guys.
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP GUYS. It really helps.
It might be better to keep this thread on topic. Your original question is one mentioned many times over in the forum, but since this is a newer thread maybe you can share with others looking to root how you successfully rooted your phone so they can learn from you. Pay it forward in a sense.

Sorry, I noobishly thought I was posting a new topic on my previous reply actually, and when I realized my mistake it was too late. And good suggestion btw.
So basically all I did was, install the drivers of my phone, which can be automatically done with the superoneclick software (in other words, the superoneclick software can install your phone driver itself)
in case your wondering where I got the superoneclick software from it was from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
And then click http://shortfuse.org/ and download it from there. On the top of the topic on the xda forum, it should tell you the latest version of superoneclick, and download that one for shortfuse. Once you've done all that, all I did was one, turn on USB debugging
1. Applications
2. Settings
3. Applications
4. Development
5. Check USB debugging
Then connect my phone (SGS4G) to my computer, and when the screen pops up on your phone asking you if you want to use it as a flash drive blah blah blah, just exit out of it, and click flash on your computer in superoneclick, from there everything should be self explanatory. Its not hard at all, but I suggest being careful since you can brick your phone (which is probably expensive).
Sorry if I did anything wrong, feel free to correct me.
if ur on 2.2.1 u can use z4 root one click 5 minutes ur done no computer needed its an apk file and u can temp or permanant root good luck
You are digging up old posts and anwering questions that have been answered??
Side Note - As of the last 8 months I have not seen the app mentioned above recommended as a method to root.
So here's the deal I'm fairly new to rooting and all that. So I recently upgraded to the official Gingerbread FW 2.3.6 via Kies Mini and now I want to root. I'm not sure if I just messed up by upgrading to 2.3.6 cause alot of ppl are saying you can't root with it. So I tried anyways using the latest version of SuperOneClick put phone in USB Debugging, and installed the Infuse drivers straight from Kies Mini. So I hit ROOT and it stopped at Step 5 and didn't work. I tried over and over about 10 times and even downloaded a earlier version of SuperOneClick and watched tons of YT rooting videos but can't get it to work. I'm a big noob also can someone help me with unzipping files. I know u can use Winrar but its not free antithetil way to unzip? I really just want to root and flash Zeus V6 and use ICS Launcher it looks REALLY good.! Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Okay, so I got the GS3, rooted it, and everything was going great. Granted, I'm a noob when it comes to android and all their fun little gadgets, I kept the stock ROM on my phone... than T-Mobile sent out the update for the phones, I didn't unroot my phone before the update. I updated my phone and it is now NOT rooted. I have tried to root my phone again, but have been unsuccessful. My phone now says its modified, and I can't check for updates... the app called Triangle Away no longer works, and I can't get my phone to say normal status. My phone is still NOT rooted, however, it says modified. How can I root my phone now that the update has come out and has been installed on my phone that originally was rooted? I don't have a backup of my stock ROM when it was rooted because the update deleted my backup that I originally had. I have a 2003 DELL Latitude C610 with Windows XP Professional installed on it, and was wondering if my laptop was compatible with rooting my phone? The first time I rooted my phone, I had to use a friend of mines laptop because I could not root it on my laptop.Thank you for reading, PLEASE HELP!
My advice would be to flash the stock ROM that you updated to, with an insecure kernel that allows root. You will also need a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM (find them in the first forum link below).
You should check out the T-Mobile Galaxy S III Android Development forum for a bunch of ROM options. Here is a thread within the forum mentioned above that details all of the information you will need, along with the ROM download links and plenty of instruction.
If you are looking to stay stock, I would suggest flashing the pre-rooted T999_UVDLJA ROM, located in that forum. Since you lost root you should just use the Odin method to get your new ROM loaded. Once you are up and running, I would suggest getting a custom recovery on there ASAP for backups/restorations etc.

Okay, I will try your suggested methods and get back to you when I can.. thank you for your help
Okay, so I tried to flash the stock rooted ROM onto my phone, but the Odin program keeps getting stuck at "Get pit for mapping".. now I tried it on my friends laptop when I first wanted to root my phone and it worked, however, my friend isn't exactly willing to help me at the moment. Any suggestions? I have used multiple different cables and the cable I used on my friends laptop is the same one I'm trying to use on my laptop.. could it be my laptop that's causing the problem?
Hmm sounds like it might be related to your laptop since it worked before with your friend's box... Try setting Odin to Windows XP Compatibility mode with admin access. Unplug all usb ports except for your mouse/keyboard and try again. Hopefully that will let you get Odin past the "Get pit for mapping" issue.
Looks like this "Get pit for mapping" issue has been run across before, try reading up on it here if the above method still won't work.
Yeah, I couldn't manage to get it to work with my laptop.. I got it rooted with a different one though and made a nandroid as to prevent any problems on the future... Thanks for the help you had given
