[APP] VPNC Widget 1.18 repacked with different icons - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I have used the app VPNC Widget from a while to access VPNC /Cisco VPNs using the tun.ko module for a while, but think the widget provided in the APK is rather ugly.
Attached is a new apk of 1.18 with some different widget icons. Its been signed with a test key.
I had to 7z it up, as the forum won't accept .apk extentions (nor .gz, which is strange)
Prerequisites:
If you already have the original apk installed, then you will have to uninstall it, as this modified version won't install.
The widget icon is now simply a 32x32 shield icon.
White is disconnected, and green is connected. The VPNC OFF, VPNC ON and VPNC Starting text is still there.
I did not develop this application. The original is available on the Market.
@mods, I think the [APP] part of the subkect ought to be changed to read [MOD] as this is not an app that I have written nor a new app.

[Q] Touchwiz: Hacked my Email.apk, icon missing, app works

Quick background: running on a Samsung Captivate with stock Froyo 2.2
I hacked my Email.apk (details here). The modified APK is working fine, but I have to access it via a normal shortcut. The icon for Email has disappeared from the bottom row of the TouchWiz interface.
I'm looking for information on how this bottom row (which presents a static set of "Phone", "Email", "Browser", "Applications" on every screen) is configured. Primarily to get "Email" back on the bar, but also to maybe modify this bar in the future.
Any pointers?
Nevermind, found it, very simple to fix. See http://www.intomobile.com/2010/07/22/samsung-vibrant-t-mobiles-galaxy-s-phone-gets-reviewed/ for details.
Feel free to lock/delete the thread.

Change the bottom bar icons?

I was wondering if there was any way of altering what is shown along the bottom bar of my Epic 4G Android 2.2.1 phone. I have a new sms app that I use all the time rather than the stock app and i'd like to change the icon in the bottom row. Is it even possible without having to use a custom rom or rooting or anything?

The bottom bar is the dock from the launcher. I don't know which launcher you are using but on Launcher Pro if you long press on the icon you will be able to change it. I believe Zeam you have to add the icon to your home page then drag it to the dock. ADW is also something similar.
To clarify the above post, installing a new launcher does not require root. However if your carrier filters your market you may need to download the .apk file on a pc and install with a file manager from the sdcard. Remember to check "unknown sources" in the android menu prior to attempting the latter method.

[Q] rename apk

hello expert forum, I've been modifying android apps but so far I've only managed to change the icons ... well I want is to rename an application (the name that comes to install it) ... not to edit file devo use tools and devo ... any opinion or answer is welcome thanks

yes
I'm not much into developing apps. Mostly basic ROM stuff but changing the apk name should be possible. I'll look around and see.

If you just want to get different names with icons on your homescreens there are other options available as well.
Some launchers allow you to modify the app name and icon when you add it to your homescreen. Or allow you to rename a shortcut when you long press it (Go Launcher)
My current (AOSP) launcher does not have that feature. But I worked around it by using one of the many features of Tasker. Just create a task that launches a particular app. Give the task your preferred name and icon. And drag a "Task cut" widget to your homescreen for that particular task.
Another benefit of these approaches is that whenever you update the app through the Play Store you will not have to reapply you custom naming and icons. That can save a lot of time with many app updates each week! What may not be nice is that the apps will still show their native name/icon in the app drawer.

[REQ] App & Shortcut Widget from HTC Butterfly

I would really enjoy being able to use this widget. I had extracted the apk file, (along with the 3x2 weather clock), and eventually got them installed in the system/app/ folder, but the widgets aren't present.
Perhaps someone would have a way to convert these to work on the M8? I'm mainly just looking to get the App & Shortcut widget, but the weather clock would be a nice bonus.
Thank you!
[EDIT]
I went over to the HTC One threads and found some apks and tried them. I got the app to appear in my app drawer but when I go to add it to my screen, but it just crashes. I have it installed as a system app and set the correct permissions. I'm guessing the apks just need some modification for Sense 6 since they were set for Sense 5. Any help with this would be amazing.
UPDATE:
I have extracted an apk that ALMOST works. I can add the widget to a screen, but it force closes when I try to assign an app to it.
I have included the apk, so any help would be great.
I pulled the apk from the Verizon M7 NuSenseSIX rom, so props and thanks to those developers.

Handshaker apk installed, no app interface

I downloaded and installed the Handshaker apk and installed it on my Pixel 2. It shows up in my Application Manager, but there is no icon in my app drawer so I can't add it to my home screen or launch it. How do I go about creating a shortcut on my home screen, or if not that then how do I find the application to manually launch it?
Thanks in advance.
