[Q] No Deep Sleep on CPUSPY - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I wonder if someone can help me.
After the recent firmware update cpuspy was showing that my Transformer would go into Deep Sleep for 90%+. Was obviously happy with that
I got prompted that 12 of my apps had updates so updated them. Thought that would be OK as I was having no problems with them at that point.
However, it never goes into deep sleep now and the lowest it goes is 216MHz. The battery drain when I'm not using it is therefore greater. 2% overnight on standby is now 15%. Not OK
I had taken a back up using App Backup so thought I would use the (only) one I had before the recent updates. The problem is that I have not restored before and have forgotten the password I used. :Muppet: Anyone got any ideas how I can roll back the recent updates and try them one by one to find the culprit. Or any other solutions of course.
Thanks in advance
Alex

I had a fully charged Transformer and dock this afternoon and now the dock is dead and the tablet is at 3%. So I saw this thread and downloaded CPUSPY and what do you know, 60% of the time it's at 216mhz, 23% it's running at 1500mhz and deep sleep is only 11%.
Anyone know how to fix this? My dock is a B70 model and pressing keys while putting it on standby doesn't wake it up so I don't think this is a dock battery drain issue is it?
BTW: Running Prime 2.1.1 and roach2010 kernel.
Viffer, does your touchpad wake your tablet? Mine does. The keyboard doesnt but the touchpad does and it may be related to why it won't go into deep sleep.

P6210 - Huge Battery Drain on ICS

Anyone experiencing battery drain on ICS? I upgraded, rooted, and removed some of the bloatware to help. Thought it was fixed but my tab is dead again. Says the Android OS is taking up my juice. Was never a problem before. Could leave it on standby for days with HC. Now its dead in a day or less.

I initially saw similar behavior, but once I killed the cached processes once, and since have shut down to charge and started new, I haven't seen that behavior.
Do you have WiFi on? Could it be you have apps that are checking to be updated? I know in the past on my phone my Amazon Appstore has a habit of starting itself up and continually checking for updates for itself and for any apps I got from Amazon.
Tried it both ways...wifi on and off.
Try using CPU spy (free in market) or betterbatterystats (free- search for it here on XDA) to see what is eating up your battery exactly.

I noticed that I had a conflict between "Power Savings" settings and the "Display" settings. Putting them both at 1 minute resulted in an always on screen I had to disable the Power Savings to correct the problem.
I did have something odd happen yesterday that seems to have kept my screen on for 4 hours. When I got home and opened my case the tab was very warm, and shut off. And all but entirely out of power, before that it has used about 10 % in 17 hours of standby with about an hour of use, or so.
I think it is possible that an app that previously didn't keep the screen on is now for some reason keeping it on, and I didn't notice when I closed the leather cover.
No issues today, but I am going to try and see if I can find some release notes to tell me about the new download for ICS for the P6210, perhaps this is addressed?
Just to update I installed the betterbatterystats. I showed a couple of things that were keeping my tab awake. Once I fixed those I thought that would be it but it was still draining. I then installed juice defender and had it turn wifi off every time I turned the screen off. That did it. Was never like this before the update but at least its good to know I fixed it.
i suggest checking better battery stats for AudioOut_1 Partial Wakelock. its been draining my phone fast when i upgraded to ICS.
check it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629346
now my battery is working great.. i just left my tab for 10 hrs in the locker when i got the tab its still have 97% battery.
for me i just checked and changed my wifi sleep policy from never to when screen turns off and its fine now. :highfive:
I thought about this very issue; I decided to wait.

Did you download the ICS as opensource? Myself, I am deciding to wait for the OFFICIAL verson to be released.
I had the same problem. i even went back to HC to make sure
the issue is not there (it wasn't) and upgraded to ICS
again (full wipe all the time). No luck something keeps
my device unable to go to deep sleep.
Now i'm back at HC again

The version is OFFICIAL .
It's just available only for some countries.
i had the huge battery drain issue while in stock ICS..
the tablet simply refused point blank to go into deep sleep.. in HC it would but not in ICS.. i would take the tablet fully charged to work and not use it much there.. by the time i was travelling back it would be 60% drained in not using it througout the day...
recently flashed to aorths CM9 build and all my battery woes are gone.. now when i get back from work the battery is at 96%!!
battery drain during usage is the same but the CM9 build has awesome battery conservation stuffs for when you dont use it..
would suggest everyone who has these battery issues to move to CM9.. really helped for me.

Early results show Juice Defender is helping a lot with mine too. Thanks for the tip!
Next morning: Just the free version of Juice Defender using the default profile took me from 35% overnight drain yesterday down to 3% overnight drain today. That's not bad. It should be even better tomorrow because I've turned off all location services after seeing that BetterBatteryStats says Google location is the worst single offender at keeping wifi going overnight.

Could you tell me how you "killed cached processes" please?
I am having similar battery drain. I am in the process of completely charging battery after it drained 40% in sleep mode last night, wifi off in sleep mods, notifications off, sync off.
I have already done a reset to factory, tried draining battery, and recharged in off position.
Nothing is helping so far. I have installed better battery stats, and CPU spy this morning, and will have data tomorrow morning.
thanks for any help

I had the same exact problem ever since the stock ICS update. My Tab Plus is all stock, no mods at all. The battery would completely drain after one day, and I have very little on the Tab Plus. Nothing helped at all, so I finally bit and did a factory wipe. The battery drain stopped immediately, so I started changing the settings back to the way I like it.
Then, next day the battery went completely dead again! I back tracked and figured out exactly what it is which makes absolutely NO SENSE - turning off wifi in sleep was what was draining the battery! See my screen captures. Notice on the first screen shot, as soon as the wifi stays on the battery drop bar stayed almost flat.
I observed a similar behavior on my 100% stock AT&T GS3 phone also, turning wifi off during sleep causes more battery drain.
I'm getting "suspend backoff" under kernel wakelocks which is preventing my tab going to deep sleep when unused. Everytime I wakeup in the morning my tab is dead. The only solution I found was to turn off wifi if I'm not using it. Anyway fixing this?

Juice Defender. The free version of the app, using the default profile, should take care of this.

[Q] Dock Draining battery

Both running stock or CleanROM I have the issue that when I leave the tablet undocked my battery will last days or weeks with the screen off. When I connect the dock and turn off the screen the dock battery will drain to 0% within a couple days and the tablet battery level would be lower than if I had left it undocked.
I've installed better battery stats and deep sleep batter saver and the device is verified in deep sleep 90% of the time.
Any suggestions?
Think that is how it designed to work. Dock will keep trying to top up the tab when it drops below 70% and then when the dock battery runs out it requires extra juice from the tab to keep it alive.

I think my question may have not been clear. One should assume that the addition of a second battery should increase the overall runtime of the device not decrease it. Instead of getting the extra hours of battery life I am getting less battery life with the dock attached.
Same problem
I have the exact same problem. Ive got all the right apps and settings suggested from XDA and still my battery drains when doc is connected.

Ditto, same here.
I'm starting to think this is a common problem, and not just some random one that I was having...
So I installed better battery stats and it is indeed the dock that's draining both it's own battery as well as the infinity's battery. I think I had about 4 hours of asusdec_wake lock coming from the dock when I let it go to sleep, but the strange thing is it only appears to happen after about half an hour of sleep before it kicks in for me (I should point out btw that I'm using a tf201 dock and running cromi-x 4.4 with _that's kernel). After removing the dock from my infinity, I no longer got the battery drain from my tab, but when my tab was docked, the keyboard seemed to drain like crazy along with the infinity, but only after being asleep for about half an hour to an hour. I suppose this is just a 4.2 bug that ASUS might be able to release an update on, or sbdags, as it seems he's done a better job with bug fixes than ASUS has.

Is sbdags a custom rom? I'm assuming so. Also your use of the tf200 dock should make no difference. Its been proven besides a firmware change and a slight color change the 2 docs are pretty much the same. I also believe this maybe a 4.2 issue however I have seen this before the latest update with my doc. It does appear to kick in after about 30 mins to an hour for me also. I am trying out a new app that I hope will help called DS battery saver. Ive tried others before to no avail but I figured why not give this one a try. I keep my infinity on the doc all the time so I hope they can fix this issue...

sbdags is the creator of the awesome custom rom, clean rom inheritance xenogenisis, he's also the second poster in this thread. I'm currently running his 4.4 rom and it's incredible! (Thank you @sbdags btw for the amazing rom, you'll get a kind donation once I can get this internship thing figured out :highfive I kind of figured that having a 201 dock wouldn't make a difference, but I just thought I should mention it. As for the draining of the battery, I think we can just assume it's a 4.2.1 bug that can hopefully be patched by ASUS or by one of the awesome developers. I've also tried DS battery saver, and I think it told me the culprit was screen on, but after installing better battery stats, I got a recurring wake lock from the asusdec_lock. Oh well, it's not the worst thing ever right now to just undock the tablet, or remember to shut it off while docked.

I'm not so sure i want to try custom roms yet. I hate not knowing if its the rom or my tablet when trouble arises. I wonder what it could be in his rom that makes this issue go away or does it not? Was not sure if you were saying it cleared the problem up or not.
I have better battery stats & its telling me asusdec_wake was on for 11h 50min. Not sure what that is, assuming it woke the tablet up. Sounds similar to yours though. I do know the google services was what always shows in the battery stat app by asus. I hate to undock as it involves removing my whole case which protects both doc & tablet.

Oop, yeah, sorry, I probably should have made that clear that the problem is still present in Clean Rom Xenogenesis 4.4 and most likely with Stock Asus 4.2.1, so flashing a custom Rom won't do anything to solve it to my knowledge, so I wouldn't worry about that. In order for better battery stats to do it's stuff, you need to set it to "since last boot" and then just restart the tablet. At least, that's what I did to make it work. After that, better battery stats will start collecting data about what's waking up your tablet from sleeps, but it's still kind of hard to pinpoint what app is causing the issue.
What we know for sure is that it's something to do with Android 4.2.1 and being connected to the dock while the tablet sleeping is causing it to drain both the batteries of the dock and the tablet, but this doesn't occur when it's disconnected from the dock, and the tablet sleeps just fine. Also not really sure if this is relevant, but when I had my tab sleeping, it went into deep sleep, but after about half an hour of deep sleep, it had that asusdec_wake lock and then it bumped up to I believe 510 mhz for the rest of it's sleeping time. So, maybe it's a stock kernel thing?
Here's what I think is happening.
Asus don't allow deep sleep whilst the device is charging. When using the dock the device thinks is it is charging so doesn't deep sleep. The devices keeps waking, drawing charge from the dock which eventually runs down.

That could be a reason, I'm just confused as to why ASUS would add this, as I never had this problem in 4.1, but after 4.2 it's happened every time I had my tablet in the dock and let it sleep for long periods of time, and it's not cromi 4.4 as it appears to be the case with stock as well. Also, not only the dock drains, but the tablet drains too, but it's only when docked. When I'm not docked, I go about 1% per hour drain, but when I am docked, I'll go about 10 - 15% drain. Oh Asus, you crazy!
Could this be related to the option to wake-up by pressing a key on the dock, by any chance? I could just be spouting rubbish (which wouldn't be a first), but it seems to me that such a setting would require some kind of wake process.
Do you have it enabled?
I vaguely recall there being a similar issue with a fairly similar-named process a while back. I think it was the wakeup setting back then, but it could also have been Maps and Location Services.

I froze maps and turned off all location access and turned off all wireless functions (location, bluetooth, wireless, etc.) from my tab and it still occurs. It's possible that it could be the asus power saving thing for the dock which is the only real thing I have enabled for the dock, but I'm away from my tab at the moment, so I can't exactly test this theory yet.

I believe asus is releasing a new update for our tab in a couple weeks. Over on the tf300 forum, I heard they got a new update that I'm not entirely sure what it fixed, but it may or may not have fixed the battery issue, I'll have to look into that. So I would wait before jumping the gun and downgrading, but that's just me, it's a free country after all.
But as for now, there is no fix that I'm aware of.

[Q] Latest official updated, still using 100mA in standby

Hi,
I'm currently on 10.6.1.14.10-20130801 build, which I installed cause of battery usage in standby with the update before that.
Well, tough luck, tablet is still using between 100 and 130mA in standby which never happened before these updates.
I did not install any new apps after the updates.
Any tips for troubleshooting.
I even disabled wifi in hopes that it would help, but no luck, so I left it on.
Though I noticed that in the battery usage panel, wifi is on almost all the times, even though I have 'keep wifi on during sleep' to never :?

Nevermind, I found out that it's the dock and it's a bug in the rom.
So while it's docked it will never properly sleep and go through both batteries.
Undock, reboot, and it sleeps normally.

[Q] TF300T won't deep sleep when unplugged - kernel wakelock: battery_cable_event

Hi folks,
I've been struggling for weeks to figure out why my TF300T started draining battery so quickly during sleep (e.g., 20-30% overnight). After lots of research, setting tweaks, use of diagnostic and battery-saving apps, having my SD card in vs out, hard reboots, factory resets, etc. it seems the problem is simply that the unit generally does not enter deep sleep. Furthermore:
Using Deep Sleep Battery Saver to try and force it to deep sleep
Using CPU Spy to view time in deep sleep and
Using GSam Battery Monitor to view time in wakelock
it appears that if my unit plugged in either via the charging cable or into the dock and I have DS Battery Saver working, the unit goes happily into deep sleep as logged by CPU Spy. If, however, the unit is not plugged in it will get no more than a few seconds in deep sleep, if any, and the elapsed time instead will accrue to time kept awake due to "battery_cable_event" as shown in View Kernel Wakelocks using GSam Battery Monitor.
Googling "battery_cable_event" and related terms did not get me very far. I did find a thread on the XDA forums where someone speculated that this process was causing them the same problem (i.e., preventing deep sleep), but other than 1 other person saying they had the same issue, there was nothing more about it I could find.
Does anyone have any information at all about what might be going on here or a potential solution? My tablet is rooted but unlocked and stock ROM. Is it possible that a custom ROM would not have this issue? I can of course provide more info on what I've done but I didn't want to get too long-winded. I'll just end for now by pointing out that my tests have been done even fresh after a factory reset with no apps run other than the above-mentioned ones so I could see the numbers. It does not appear that I have a draining apps issue, that is.
Thanks very much in advance to the community for any assistance.
--Foobius Bahr
Just an update: I talked with ASUS tech support and the fellow was actually fairly knowledgeable and as helpful as I could expect under the circumstances. He understood all of what I tried and did not suggest a bunch of silly things to try. He says there is no record of anyone contacting them with a problem related to battery_cable_event and that he thinks it means a chipset problem, i.e., hardware, since testing right after a factory reset didn't help. Unfortunately, since I bought my tablet in June 2012 it is out of warranty, so I am out of luck. The info is getting passed up in case it's possible that this kernel process could be misbehaving for a reason that can be fixed without having to send it in and have the motherboard replaced. Doing that would cost almost as much as buying one of these today.
If anyone has suggestions I'm all ears because I'm stuck with the tablet and a dock and the former is out of warranty anyway.
tf300t
Hi friend, i have same problem. Only thing that helped was airplane mode. On 4.1 my tf go to "sleep of death" and now on 4.2 he wont sleep
Hope this will work for you too.
Thanks, all. My sort-of workaround is that when I have the tablet plugged into the dock that counts as "plugged in" so I just try to have it docked whenever I want it to sleep so it doesn't drain extra fast. This is not a solution to the problem, but doing the best I can with what I've got.
Cheers.

[Q] TF700 Crombi-kk not sleeping

I installed Cromi-X in hope that it will fix the sleep problem, but alas, same old.
I'll be trying a newer version, but would like some input on what could be the problem.
Currently I'm on Crombi-k
kernel -3.1.10-that10+
Without sleep the tablet is unusable, the battery has already shat itself after all the discharging.
Please help!
You gotta look at what you have installed. Use Wakelock Detector and/or Gsam Battery Monitor to examine your setup.
Just yesterday I woke my TF700 on the latest CROMBi-KK from sleep after at least a week of not using it (it was not shut down but WiFi was off) and I had 90% of battery left.... Couldn't believe it...

It's a kernel bug introduced in the last Asus update.
It won't sleep if it is attached to the dock, simple as that.
Since the update I've been using is as an expensive paperweight.
I tired Crombi in hopes it would fix it, but alas no hope.
it didn't affect everyone but a lot of people had their tablets crapped.
