Hi,
I just bought my Transformer TF101 used.
Upon receiving it I noticed that I can not turn on the device after shutting it down if it is not plugged in to either a PC or power.
I suspect the original owner had this device rooted, then attempted to restore to stock ROM before selling. When I initially got it, every time I attempted to load the recovery partition, it would show a green android with a yellow triangle exclamation mark.
I have since rooted my device with Razorclaw 1.0.1, then installed Recovery Installer.
I now have build 8.6.5.19, Revolver 3.9.3, ClockworkMod Recovery v3.2.0.1, serial # begins with B08
However, I am still experiencing the issue with having to be plugged in to power on from a shutdown.
Having a more recent serial number I can not use NVFlash.
Any insight or advice the community may have on if I can resolve this issue on my own without sending it to Asus?
Does the power button otherwise function normally? ie, when the device is powered on, does the power button toggle sleep mode correctly, or does it bring up the shut down prompt when you hold the power button?

Power button functions normally, sleep, power off, etc. Its only the initial power up. It seems like something in the software, but I don't know enough about how it boots to tell what it could be.
When I boot into recovery (Power + Volume-) I go straight to CWM, is there a stage before that that I would be missing otherwise? As I described, when CWM is not installed, I bet the green android error.
Thanks

On mine with CWM 3.1.0.1 when I boot directly into recovery (power and vol.down) I immediately get another prompt which requires me to then press "volume up" to actually enter recovery.
You might be right about the software. Does your transformer immediately power on the moment you plug in the power cord (it does stock, really quite annoying actually...) or do you actually have to press the power button first (not normal behavior for my B50)

Yes, mine has the same behavior (turns on when connected), and the same bootloader before CWM, except before I installed CWM I was getting the yellow triangle error.
So based on what you are mentioning, the behavior is correct, except for the fact that it requires being connected to start up.

Hey guys this is my first post.
I'm running Codename 3.6.0 and just flashed AirKernel #224 (previously had #211) and ever since I've been stuck at boot. The Google logo appears, then the soft touch keys light up, then the Google logo dissappears and the keys remain lit with a black screen. The Nexus "X" doesn't show up. My power button is broken and I have been using a combination of volume rocker wake and button remapper to wake/sleep my phone. The power button has been shorted, the common failure on a Nexus S, so fastboot doesn't work, and I have no way of getting into recovery. When I run "adb devices" my phone doesn't show up.
There must be a way to fix this, any suggestions?

my power button is broken too(since last august 2011, lol), but it acts like its pressed sometimes. i pull out the battery then put it in when plugged in via usb. i press volume down as i put in the battery and it boots right into the bootloader. then i flick the back of the phone near the power button and it lets me select recovery with the volume rocker. then i flick the back of the phone again to chose recovery.

Decided to scrap my Nexus S, have had many technical problems with it lately, I think it's time to let it go.
Hello All!
My brother gave me his Asus Transformer TF101 to sell but it was heavily modified so I set about putting it back into factory state.
He had TWRP installed so I booted into that (recovery mode, volume down + power, etc.) and proceeded to do a restore. I selected the restore point and clicked "go." Everything seemed to work but now my TF never gets beyond the boot screen (the screen that says "ASUS, Inspiring Innovation..." and has the spinning circle). Obviously something went wrong with the restore and I can deal with that, however, I have a BIGGER PROBLEM now.
I cannot power down my TF. When I press and hold the power button it shuts down (the screen goes black) but then it starts right back up again. I have tried to hold the power button down for 3 seconds, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, etc. but it always reboots.
Can someone please let me know how I can stop my TF from rebooting over and over again?
Thank you,
Jan
P.S. The main reason why I am needing to power down is I am trying to boot into APX mode so that I can use Easy Flasher.
try vol - and power more than 15secondes. Until you get 2 icons (1 for reset 1 for boot android)

When the tf turns itself off just start holding volume-up, eventually the screen will stay blank and you are in APX mode, I've had this issue a few times, just hold volume up and it will eventually boot into apx.
Also try volup and power to hard reset then it will turn on again automatically, be sure to keep holding volume up, apx will eventually come on.
Hello,
Hopefully I'm in the right place for posting something that seems to be this simple. The start of my problem is that the tablet will not stay off. When I try to shut it down, it shuts down normally, but then it starts to display the battery icons like it is plugged in and charging, but it is not connected to power. I can leave it in sleep mode and the charging thing will not happen, but turning it off displays the power charging screen and it further drains the battery. I figured something is screwy with the system so I would try to reset it to factory defaults. Now I have the other problem...
So I am trying to restore to factory defaults and I know to do this I have to start from off and hold down the up volume and the power button for a few seconds and as soon as the tablet starts to turn on release the power button but not the volume up button, and it should get me into the recovery/download screen. Unfortunately that is not working. I hold down the Volume up button and briefly hold the power button (3 or 4 sec or so) and I see the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 startup screen and let go of the power button (still holding the Volume up button). Next I see the spinning blue circle around the Samsung logo and the tablet reboots. I can release the volume up button at any time after that and the results are the same, it just reboots. It's like it isn't seeing the volume button.
I have tried using the volume Down button instead of the volume up button but that too is just like I am not pushing any volume button at all. Once the tablet is on, the volume buttons function normally, so the switches are good.
Since I got this tablet used could someone have loaded something onto it preventing it from being rebooted into recovery/download mode? Maybe some custom firmware or something. I'm at a loss as to where to go next. Since I can't boot into recovery/download mode I can't get into Odin.
Any help is appreciated.
Rick
Hi. The tablet isn't rooted, is it? Can you try to boot it into download or recovery with the "quick boot" app from google play?
I don't think it is rooted, but I can't tell for sure since I can't connect to the Google play store. I tried downloading using the web browser, but my battery dies before if finished. I'll try swapping batteries and see what I can figure out. Thanks for the idea.
Rick
No, the device is not rooted. it also is not charging and I had a heck of a time getting it to connect to the play store. I think I need to try and reload the OS, but without being able to get into ODIN, or reboot into recovery, I'm not sure how to proceed. any suggestions?
When the battery thing appears do the power- volume up thing and hold it until the gtab logo appears.
I've tried that, and it just boots up as if I wasn't holding the volume button at all. Once the tab is booted, the volume buttons work as normal. I've even tried putting a different power/Volume/IR unit in (from a working tab with a broken screen) and that didn't make a difference.
I left the tablet all weekend and it just keeps showing that it is charging when not plugged in. By Monday the battery was 100% dead. It won't even charge. If I replace the battery with a battery from a working unit I'b back in the same place where I can't get it to boot to Recovery/download.
Sorry if I am duplicating but couldn't find it anywhere.

Bootloader = power + volume down.
Select recovery from bootloader.

Or if it's off, just press power and release and right away press and hold volume down until it boots into bootloader.

The bootloader button combo, while technically correct, is a bit incomplete, and in my opinion one of the primary reasons folks have trouble getting into bootloader (as it gets described this way quite often). It leads some people into believing you are supposed to press both simultaneously, and release them, which will absolutely not get you into bootloader.
What exactly works and doesn't work varies a bit by the condition: phone is fully booted, stuck on boot screen, off, "Fast boot" is selected in Settings>Power on Sense ROMs (the deep sleep power function, not the adb/fastboot function). But the following always works, AFAIK:
Hold down the power button until the capacitive buttons flash several times and the phone powers off. While the screen is off, press and hold the vol down button. DO NOT let go of vol down until the white bootloader screen comes up. If the phone boots normally, or boots into SAFE MODE (looks like normal boot, but SAFE MODE in all 4 corners of the screen, and no 3rd party apps) then you pressed the vol down button too late. You can actually press vol down during, or even before pressing the power button. But the important thing, is NOT to let go of vol down until you get into bootloader.
For recovery, there is no button combo that boots the phone directly into recovery. You must select it from bootloader, or an alternate means (such as fastboot command). But there is not button combo for recovery as there is on some other phones.
Vol UP and power puts the phone in Qualcomm download mode, which I do not believe has any useful application for us users. So I would advise staying away from it.
This might be the stupidest quetsion ever but, I'm totally helpless.
I need to access the recovery, I flashed a rom which stucks at the boot screen, I need to flash another yet I cannot shut this thing of. I keep pressing the power button for 10secs, 3buttons starts to flash and screen goes dark. When I let it go, it restarts.
How can I power of this device without accessing the OS?

Hold it until the buttons stop flashing, about 20 seconds.

I keep pushing the button for way longer than that. Still it reboots.
Take a look
