My wife and I should have our new Skyrockets on our doorstep today. We are "exchanging" them from the Infuse because it had a major problem of locking up when browsing and poor call quality issues. Hoping to see improvement with this phone.
How long does the Skyrocket take to charge? It seems like the Infuse could take 1-4 hours and that was horrible.
Thanks!
Brian
I've been getting mine to charge in around 2 hours or so (could take a little longer of course, but I don't think its ever taken more than 3).
However, some people around the forums, have noted very slow charging time. My experience (either using the Samsung cube charger or an HP touchpad charger that can put out up to 2A) has been pretty good.
That being said, I'm not getting phenomenal battery life. But it appears to vary wildly.
Enjoy the new phones!

Thanks for the reply...I didn't get great battery life out of the Infuse either...just about everyday, after lunch, it would go on the charger. Just part of Android I believe. I plan on getting a second battery in time.
I almost went with the HTC Titan...I have a Windows Phone for work and really like it. Lacks the geek power of Droid but I enjoy using it. Just wasn't ready to give up Android yet though I do have an Android Tablet.
Love my phone I'm rooted with custom kernel I get 8 hours batt life with pretty heavy use. Know your phone understand it!
Just got my skyrocket today. Upgraded from HTC Inspire. I was considering a Windows phone, but I have a lot of android apps. I seen some mixed reviews about this phone. I have 30 days to decide if I will keep my Skyrocket or swith to something else.

What's been your opinion of the Skyrocket coming from the Inspire? I've got the Inspire now and have been debating on getting the Skyrocket.
Get the white one. For some reason the white feels Studier screen is crisper and edges don't seem so round. I was edgy about the black one so i returned it but the white one seems like totally different.

How's the GPS compared to the Inspire? My Inspire is extremely accurate. I had the OGSGSII, but took it back because the GPS wasn't where I felt it needed to be. I rely on it too much since I travel.

I've had a Captivate, Infuse, OG-GS2, and now I727-SR... needless to say, the first 2 were basically worthless for GPS... the OG-GS2 was much better... and the I727-SR GPS blows the doors off the OG. After flashing the OTA 2.3.6 update., my GPS sees 23 satellites... locks 13... with 9ft accuracy within 4 seconds. Finally, SAMSUNG got GPS right!

I have read that battery life is horrible...what do you all think?
For the 24 hours plus I have had it, it is actually better than my Captivate was on any 2.2 ROM after proper recalibration, and at least on par with bone stock 2.1.1. I think HTC got it right with this one.
mine sucks so far. but im sure it needs to be "broken in" (here comes the debate about batteries not needing to be broken in)
Mine is decent, but then I plug it in the car charger as soon as i start driving so...
Mine is pretty decent as well... better than my Captivate was stock. The Inspire has a smaller battery as well (1230mAh I believe). So smaller battery with bettery battery life means HTC did something right to me
It's good so far. However, I got a 1600 mah from eBay and so far It's been great. I've been using it for 6 hours with constant use, full brightness and I still have more than half of battery left.

That batt still fit in the phone without any mods? And are they smoking crack? 105 for the batt? I'll stay with my current one

would u say better or worse then the Droidx, or an iphone4?
I have never used an iPhone 4 or Evo long enough to give you battery life. As for the Evo, probably close to the same actually. You see, the main reason that the Evo got the 1500 may battery is because of WiMax 4G. Plus the Inspire has more efficient technology, including the second generation snapdragon processor and the more efficient version of Sense, version 2.0

I think the battery life is great. MUCH better than what the bad reviews said it was.
With smart use (concious of wifi toggle, brightness toggle, gps toggle, account syncs...) the phone will easily last over a day. I use my phone a lot too, and I can't kill it in the day. It requires a little more attention than the iPhone 4, but the trade offs are worth it.
Full charge this morning. maybe 1 hour of web/email. 15 minutes of calls and stand by the rest of the time and I am at 2/3 at 4pm.
Not good not bad. Clearly for really busy times it will need a charge or a second battery (which I am planning to get).

I am guessing wrong price or a shill - are we sure the Desire HD battery will fit and function properly. If so why didnt HTC just use the 1500mA or 1600mA to start with?
It was actually $4.89. That's what I paid including shipping. I guess the seller got greedy. I copied that link from the confirmation email from eBay.

I don't recommend buying any batteries online that claim to be replacements for the Inspire, but are much larger in mAh. They are likely fake, unsafe, or the same battery you have currently with a different mAh size that is untrue.

So... I lost my DINC last week and I can pay Assurion 90 bucks for a replacement (probably used and probably one of the later models without the AMOLED screen) or... Verizon said I can get a new Droid Charge for 199. I've heard so much bad stuff about the Thunderbolt that I'm tempted to just go ahead and get the Droid Charge. I think the phone looks gorgeous, but I'm worried Samsung will be slow with the Android updates. I can live with that really.... I'm just wanting something that is fast, nice to look at and use and has good battery life. It also looks like the Charge has a nice useable camera in comparison to HTC phones. While, I might miss Sense.... I don't dislike the way the Charge looks.
Are you happy with yours? Any thoughts or extra info?

About the updates. Because its a "Droid" phone the updates might be quicker. I would think if they didn't give good updates it wouldn't just hurt samsung but the droid line. because if someone hears the droid charge didn't get so and so update the normal person would think the whole line of droids is bad. I'm just guessing and if this doesn't make sense sorry I'm very tired

i got the charge and after a week and a half, i went to a thunderbolt
pro:
-awesome looking screen, great for under the sun
-good camera quality
con:
-camera takes ages after taking a picture, to be ready to take another photo (2-5 seconds) I've missed multiple great photo ops in the week i owned the charge.
-rtf system lags, and the voodoo lagfix is a bandaid. even the animation of speedtest apk studders (when it's scanning for a server)
-4g reception is poor, average of 5mb/1mb. most places my wife's thunderbolt got 4g, the droid charge didn't(sitting at a restaurant, at the park etc.). additionally, since i got the thunderbolt, my 4g average has been 10mb/3mb
-randomly lost all signal and takes about 15-20 seconds for it to be restored
i would most likely never touch another samsung phone until they come out with another nexus
i also have both phones but prefer the thunderbolt ... sense is faster and smoother than touch wiz, the social integration, i think, is better, if that matters to you...also the browser seems to perform better and the keyboard (or any of the replacement ones) feels 'snappier' on the thunderbolt than the charge ... now the charge is really good in sunlight, as someone said, which can NOT be said for the thunderbolt ... big minus for the 'bolt, as i use my phone outdoors a lot!!
games seem to lag more (angry birds, etc.) on the charge and i've also already scratched the back of the charge in several places, inadvertently, and there are two little 'pits' in the screen of the charge
while there are plusses and minuses of both, i find myself using the 'bolt more as it's just all around, a much faster phone ... at least in my experiences.
Sounds to me like someone with a h**d-on towards Samsung. Obviously I only have a couple of weeks worth of experience with the Charge, I got it the day they released it a couple Saturdays ago. But I drive a truck so I am in and out of a lot of different 4G areas. I run speedtest.net as I am going through areas and I find the speeds on average to be well above what you are claiming here. Not only am I running the speed tests, they are being run on my laptop which is connected to the phone via wifi hotspot. Have I seen some 4-5dn/1-2up 4g speeds? Sure but I have also seen 21.6/8.5 in the greater Cincinnati area !! So far I have been able to test speeds in Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, OH, Cincinnati, Charlotte, NC. The vast majority of the time I am seeing speeds of between 10 & 15 mbps on the downstream with 12mbs being a fair average. Suprisingly enough, much of the time the upstream speeds are similar to the downstream!! From my experience, the ping times are 75ms on average with a high in the 110 range and low of about 65ms. This is real world testing in many different 4g areas ...
As for the Charge? I love it. I personally don't like the feel of the HTC Sense overlay. I know many love it and good for you!! Plus, the T-Bolt doesn't even come with Swype installed on it !! As stated, I am all over the place and I have never once had any type of issues with lack of signal. I am on the phone a heck of a lot during the course of my day and it has always been rock solid ...
I drive a truck also and I can agree with you. My Co-Driver has the Bolt and our 4G speeds are close most of the time. The Bolt does get better ping times sometimes, and it kicks the Charge's ass in a Quadrant test, but Im assuming that's due to more RAM. On another note, both of our phones were charged this morning and ATM mine is at 40% and his just died.
Another thing I really love about this phone is the media player. Its AWESOME! That was a really big issue for me, as I listen to alot of music and I like it loud. I've had the OG, DX, the Thunderbolt, and I still have an iPhone, and the media player on this phone kills all of the others. With the exception of the iPhone, the others don't get loud enough. The music clarity even trumps the iPhone and I have a $500 set of Shure headphones that I listen with.
My opinion is that the Charge is a great phone and even though the Thunderbolt is faster, its at the expense of poor battery life. Once the developers open this phone up though I think it is really gonna make a big difference. It may not be the fastest, but its well-rounded and will be a great phone to ensure you keep that Unlimited data plan, until something better comes along.

Upgraded from my problematic Thunderbolt and no regrets. I love the Charge.
As everyone else before me replied, I also have both. I definitely prefer the Charge over the TB, but really it depends on the end user: you. Which do you like better? Which can you see yourself using for a while?
You can read over a thousand posts from people like us, and each will prefer one over the other. So take everyones replies with a grain of salt, including mine.

I have the tbolt and my cousin has the charge. I think they are both great phones.
The charge has a better screen and battery life (out of the box) imo.
The tbolt I believe has better dev support atm, since the charge just came out. People complain about the battery of the tbolt, but im rooted with the extended battery, in 4g area and my battery lasts 1 1/2 days on moderate to heavy use.
I think the pros and cons to each are slim, it just depends on what you prefer. Go to the Verizon store and compare them both. I think you will be happy either way.

Thank you for all your input!
I luckily had my lost DINC returned to me today, so I'm still going to go tomorrow and check out the Droid Charge and see if it begs me to take it home. Now, I just am not so desperate.
While I love everything about HTC phones, I think the display on the TB looks like crap. I got my DINC the day it came out before the amoled shortage and the switch to SLCD and that alone is the reason why I cried when I lost it. If the Thunderbolt got better battery life and had a nicer display, I'd def. go that route.... but until HTC brings an LTE phone to Verizon with a display as nice as the ones Samsung makes... I think I'm moving towards Samsung. I'm just trying to weigh the positives and negatives of going with the Charge now or seeing what else Samsung throws our way and when Verizon officially pulls the plug on unlimited data. (Not that I'm a data hog, but with 4G and all the great things that it can do, it seems pointless to be limited for something that doesn't cost them nearly as much as they are passing on to us.)
The Charge is the first "modern phone" I had in years. My previous was an HTC Windows Mobile at least 3 years old, maybe older than that. And before that were Palm phones.
I spent time debating between the Thunderbolt and the Charge and I really couldn't be happier I went with the Charge. I'm in NYC so I have 4G all the time pretty much. Speed tests as high as 25 mbps down and 10 up.
My deciding factor on the Charge vs. Thunderbolt was battery life. I can't imagine having to constantly keep a Thundebolt plugged in all day and 8 hours of life with average use was not acceptable to me at all. The Charge battery life I can live with. I just went 2 days without charging it with light use, and even under heavy use a nightly charge is all that is needed.
Unfortunately I took the OTA update as soon as I turned it on so hoping for a new rooting possibility so i can remove/freeze the bloatware but that would have been an issue with the thunderbolt too.

Hi guys, picked up the sensation this afternoon. Actually had a hard time getting one as several stores were sold out. So I am sure this phone will be popular. In any case, I know many people are worried about the day to day speed differences. From my perspective, one is no faster than the other. Sure maybe the G2x gets better quadrant scores, but who cares.
My big worry right now is battery. Believe it or not, I would get roughly 14 hours of fairly heavy usage on the G2x. So far with the sensation, after 30 minutes of doing pratically nothing it is down from 100% to 89%. Is this normal??? Most of the usage is because of the display which is set on auto. Keep in mind I have not gone thru any charge cycles yet.
If this is the norm, I will be returning the sensation even tho it is such a great device.
The first day i used it the battery was awful, it gets better with every full drain and full recharge.
Enjoy your sensation! i love mine
I loved the G2x, but after returning 4 to Costco and getting them pissed off at me. I had to leave it behind in favor of the Sensation. The g2x had too many issues. The screen bleed, the always lock up using Skyfire browser. (fav browser), locking up on appts. Just drove me crazy.
As for the Sensation, I have owned a HD2 and loved it after I used Mdeejays roms. So I knew what to expect from HTC
Likes vs. G2x. It has had no issues or lockups in 3 days now. I can use Browser with no lockups. Programs run fast and smooth. Yes the G2x seemed to run a little faster. But it is not a big differance.
I acutally really like all the Sense and bells and whistles. Social networking and syncs work better then the g2x and any phone I have had.
The Netflix app works great and I live in hotels for work so its great to have.
Phone is rock solid.
My few gripes, ALmost too much STUFF in phone to use. Takes a learning curve vs. the Vibrant or G2x vanilla Froyo. But once you get it, it rocks!
I like the G2x Music player better, as well as the Camera is better in the g2x. But the camcorder is better in this one.
Battery after using the Battery calibration tool is way better for me with this phone vs. the g2x. I would go thru a charge in the LG phone in half a day of heavy use. This phone last almost all day with heavy use.
the build feels better with this phone. G2x build was good too. Galaxy s felt cheap to me.
I am very happy vs the troublesome but great G2x.
thanks for the reply. I was wondering which battery calibration tool you used?

Agreed. I always do a full drain to where device shuts off on it's own....then for good measure I turn it on again. It'll usually have just enough juice to boot up, then shut right down. Then it's a full uninterrupted charge. I've always repeated that process for the first week or so of the last 5-6 devices I've owned.
Not sure if it's overkill, but I've never had any real battery issues....except for the G2X having horrible batt life with GSM/WCDMA Auto enabled. Had to switch to WCDMA Only and it tripled the batt life. I've yet to see if the Sensation suffers from that bug..... first day I've owned it
Oh and I LOVE this device....

That is odd. The Sensation has better definition based on all reviews I have read and is higher in pixel count there for not as big. I think the G2x had much better brighter color. But the Sensation is a cleaner pic if that makes sense. Much like the reviews say. I think both have better pic as do reviewers then the Amoloid Galaxy s. But I read the Europe Galaxys2 blows all of them away with the new amoloid.
What did you not like about the lockscreen. I like the new circle. I find no lags.
But I do agree the G2x was snappier and faster. But I like this one muchbetter all around.
I have been rocking vanilla android for some time now. Mytouch 3g, Nexus, Nexus s and G2x (wifes phone now) and it is a bit of a learning curve for me since I have never had anything with sense on it.. But in time I am growing to like it, I would not say I prefer it but I can get used to it.. I like the g2x for what it is and I am growing to like this phone for what it is. Anyway the Sensation is just something to hold me over until the next variant of the Nexus series arrives.. hopefully by Thanksgiving

gay.
Coming from an Evo you'll probably think the Infuse has amazing battery life. People complaining usually have a rogue app or are victims of the random Gingerbread battery bug. I've experienced great battery life on both my rom and CM7. By great I mean ~16 hours with heavy usage... 4-6 hours of display on time (browsing and other random stuff) and 1-2 hours of listening to podcasts or music with the screen off. I'm usually connected to wifi except when I'm on the road and brightness is usually set to auto, sometimes to 30 or 40 percent. People have reported 2-3 days without charging if they stay connected to wifi and use the phone very lightly.
Yup, I've gone 3 days with light use and still around 30%. Of coarse, that's on infused though
I get 3-4 days on my captivate with 3000mAh battery makes my phone a lot thicker though
Not sure if they have good extended batts for infuse but the stock battery is a good size. This is my next phone when i resign next month.

So far no extended batt has tested at more than 2500 actual (despite claiming to be 3500).
Disclaimer: This method may have been due to the fact that my device or digitizer (I'll explain further) was damaged or I had a lemon. But here is my story:
- Sold an unlocked 4S for $450
- Wanted to try out Android and hate Sammy devices...
- Decided to give HTC One X a try
- Didn't have an upgrade so had to buy an unlocked international version because it released earlier.
With my international HTC One X from Malaysia, I would barely squeeze out 2hrs of screen time, and would have to charge my device 2-3x a day, and have yellow light leakage and spots around the screen. The device would get hot and had screen flexing and sensitivity issues. Right out of the box it was glitchy and the OTA's didnt solve much. I went from ROM to ROM to ROM and battery saving apps to CPU controls for a solution. I would literally drop 2-3% every minute, and sometimes in a matter of 5 mins I would drop 8% battery. I did the built in Battery test and would get 90% after an hour and it would say batter health = good. All of this to no avail, I WAS FED UP!
I was sick of it and found someone who wanted an International One X and had an AT&T One X. He knew about the battery and screen issues but decided to trade anyway.
BOY OH BOY! The difference is night and day. It's been a few days and I have never been happier with a phone. I get close to 4 hrs of screen time on the same level of usage on one charge. 3-4 hrs of music, 1 hr web browsing, texting and phone calls all day, facebook/twitter 2-3 hrs. No heat issues and no dropoff in performance even with just 2 cores. NO LAG or random reboots at all. If anything the device feels faster! While in hoboken/nyc the other day I got 4G LTE (since AT&T doesnt have LTE all over jersey yet) and it was freaking amazing. Close to the speeds I get with my FiOS connection at home.
Anything with Nvidia in it or on it I've ever owned so far has been faulty and been a nightmare. Idk if its just my badluck or coincidence.
But thats my story. I talked to my engineer buddy and he said my phone deff had a bad digitizer/screen that was eating the battery unnecessarily.
Anyone with their thoughts?
Yea S4 is more power efficient than Tegra 3 the only thing it bests the S4 is in its graphical capabilities

The only other gripe I have about AT&T's decision making is the storage. But what can you do? I don't listen to all of my music anyways.
Not to mention the wifi (squeeze test) crap.
Glad we have the less problem ridden version here.
I've never been happier with a phone.

I made the switch just as you did because battery life was terrible on the Tegra 3, due to a VERY outdated kernel and 40 nm?? whereas I believe the Snapdragon S4 is at 28 nm and a more recent kernel. That really does make a huge difference. I usually just text, fb, and browse the web and with auto-brightness, auto-sync and widgets on I get ~ 4 hours of use whereas on the Tegra 3 I got about < 2 hours. I was just as fed up and disappointed as you were.
Re: battery, I will say this:
Only charge it on the charger it came with. Charged it s couple time on my Touchpad charger, and while it appears to charge up faster, the battery will "drain" faster.
I haven't even opened the charger it came with >_<
The S4 is pretty superior in every single way besides gaming, but even then the S4 is pretty damn awesome haha.
Glad to see you are enjoying it.
If you really wanna have some fun, download linpack and watch pure domination. 226 bone stock..

Not sure I understand how that would be possible. If the battery is fully charged why would it drain any faster if it was charged by a different charging method?

My perception just from observing the international One X forum, is that the Tegra 3 SoC on the international versions is glitchy as hell, causing various serious issues, and that NVIDIA is notorious for being slow to fix these sorts of bugs.

Never thought that maybe the screen/digitizer could be causing the battery drain.
How hot was it getting? Every One X I've had gets pretty hot.

Even with the s4 I don't know how you guys are pulling 4 hours. Are you using it all at once or sporadically throughout the day?

I have been getting 4 hours of screen time since I got my one X on Saturday. Pretty consistently actually. Usually right at 4 and a half. I use it sporadically at work, usually 2 hours worth by the end of the day.
Then when I get home I do pretty much the same thing, I browse XDA while I wait for games to load on PS3 or Vita.
I do not stream music or anything.
Sync files with dropbox.
Wifi typically on.
Screen with auto brightness enabled.
Minimal game play (I have a PS Vita for that but I occasionally succumb to Words or Temple Run)
My idle time can go up pretty high if I so choose but I will only get the 4.5 hour screen time on auto. Which is good for me since that's what I got on my Atrix with the brightness at minimum most of the time

Best I ever saw was 3.5 hrs screen on time by the time I was down to 50%. Probably would have gotten 6+ hours if I kept it going. That was with very heavy internet/FB/xda over a 6 hour period.

I'm getting so frustrated that I can't get a One X with that battery life.

Yeah, it was hard to go from such great battery to the other HOX I returned the other day that would MAYBE pull an hour screen time. Here's hoping that this new one I got today will be like my first one.

I wanna go back and test what I had on the old One X but I don't remember if it was 1.85 rooted or cleanrom 2.1.

I'm getting 2 to 3 hours screen on time with around 15hrs off charger and my battery will be at about 15%. It definitely does the job for me!
My acer a500 and my GTX680 card have both been fantastic I guess I got lucky with my nvidia stuff.
