Samsung (as with many other phone makers) makes an effort to customize the standard android experience by making small changes and tweaks to not only the launcher and lock screen, but also to several of the "standard" apps such as Email and the web Browser.
At the same time, Samsung is using AMOLED technology for the screens on their newer handhelds. Unlike LCD's, this display technology uses near no power to display a "black" pixel, and full power to display a "white" pixel (when the screen brightness is maxed out.)
Given that inforamtion, why would Samsung customize android apps to make default background colors of WHITE for devices with AMOLED screens? For example, the "email" application (not gmail.) The message list uses a WHITE background. There's no way to change this. Common sense dictates that if they used a DARK (or black) background, the phone would use less power while displaying the message list... Even while reading a message with this app, it's possible to set a "black" background for the message body, but the header still uses a white background!
I've noticed on samsung honeycomb devices, they also "customize" the browser to force as many WHITE backgrounds as possible. The browser tabs are white (instead of the android default black.)
Is this some hidden agenda by Samsung to sell spare batteries?
You are giving them WAAAY too much credit...
Do you really believe they could even come up with that idea???

Hello everyone, I am an Italian partially sighted, and then I have big problems of view. I note with regret that Android is very configurable, but with more difficulty.
I have a HTC Desire with root privileges.
I would simply like to change most of the interface, not pleasure, but to use it, for example, I have to change anything that has white background with black background and then put white text, here's a list:
- Change backgrounds with blacks and whites to white text (it is called high-contrast)
- Change buttons with clear background and insert new ones with black background and white text
- A little larger all the characters
- Enlarge icons
- Have all black keyboard with white keys
- Have different software with a black background and white text
How do you see there.
I am a programmer and I also know Java and I have the android SDK installed, the only lacks experience in this system since I got two days ago.
I installed without success, Open Home, in the sense that I did not get good results.
Can you help?
I am willing to install something already done or create something from scratch I just do not know where to start, I know that Android is based on the topics of XML, but I do not know where in the system, such as retrieve and re-enter .
Excuse me for my bad english
Thank you all.
Ale
Been browsing around here and following the skyraider and all of ID's threads and there was something I felt was missing from both the sense and vanilla roms. I spent a bunch of time on the regular android theming threads, and this is what I have created so far.
It's in no way a fully polished, and easily flashed or MM'd theme (i don't like the idea of using MM)
See the pictures below for what I've gotten to.
What it consists of:
LauncherPro Plus
Apps Organizer
SwitchPro
TAJM
BattStatt
Pure Calendar
Desktop Visualizer
MinimalText icons
LauncherPro icons (from their website)
Zegoe Font
Sweet Chicago skyline background
I used LauncherPro to get a more customizable screen layout and remove the notification bar. I also love that it lets me change the icons for the dock (and the swipe gestures are nice)
Apps Organizer condenses a lot of my used apps, and Apps Organizer lets you pick custom icons as well
I used to use extended controls and SMODA widget but i didnt like SMODA's colors, so i switched to SwitchPro because of its working 3g on/off (a must since I need my battery to last a full day while I'm on campus). You cant clearly make the buttons out on the bottom, but they are nearly invisible until i touch them and they become white. Might not be everyone's liking but I dont need to see them.
Pure Calendar was used since I rely on my calendar and gtasks, and it was transparent which is what I really wanted.
Here's where I could use some help
I would like to be able to change all app icons to grayscale without using MM. I realize this might mean replacing files within apks for programs which wont be entirely possible
I wish the text size for TAJM was customizable, its too small and I would like BattStatt and TAJM to better use the home screen real estate
Package this into something more people can use/ customize without having to download all of the apps seperately or even use the apps (flashable?)
Still need a new lock screen. I liked the rotary one but I dont think that will look as nice since it uses a gray transparent bg. If it could be fully transparent, just leaving the two buttons, and the music controls either be light gray for off and white for on, that would be awesome.
I'm open to ideas and criticisms, just spent a few hours this weekend trying to gather all I needed but if someone knows a better way I'd love to know.
If there is any interest in this, I could package up the icons and fonts (sorry can't do the apks since most are paid apps). Just need to collect the info for the creators so credit can be given.
There are so many beautiful themes to make the home screen and wall paper beautiful, but I just don't understand why is there apparently no way to modify the lame white over black background in some of the things like Settings, the apps tab, etc., or at least I haven't been able to find it out.
Does anyone know of any possible way to do that? A simple change of background/foreground color would be nice.
Is there some way to reverse the default color scheme for ALL apps (and settings) to White Text on Black Background?
I think it would be great and much easier on the eyes if we could do that with our web browsers, and just about everything else (when we felt like it). Or is there an android web browser that can do that (like with some reader apps)?
An easy theme switcher would be nice also, so that we could switch from one theme to the other as quickly as possible. Does one exist or do we have to always do that via recovery?
Black or White background
It is of course a matter of personal liking whether you wanna have black or white background on your settings. Medically speaking white font on black background will leave you with after image and hence is fatiguing in the long run. I am an expert in this matter. So be careful before you change your theme. G. Tab is actually a breath of relaxation as it comes with light background. Please don't change it.
I also want that feature so much....to save battery, cause black colors consume less power
does anybody do have this answers? looking for the same especially for the sms default scheme or pallete.
This is a shout out to the developers of the Gear 2 apps.
Please make better use of the screen it has. A lot of apps use the defaults fonts and style. But this means that list or checklists have only 3 items on a screen. But making it 4 or 5 with a smaller font and closer to each other, they are still good pressable and certainly more readable and enjoyable.
Now it's a lot to Android Wear, and boy is this a waist of empty space. Especially the Moto 360, but also the square screens. It's one of the reasons i didn't choose for Android Wear.
And with the introduction of Samsung Gear S, they have put in more thought of using the screen. I like this to go to the apps as well.
Good example apps are:
GearTasks
Gear Notes (except for the list)
Messages (when system font size is set to small)
Also please take advantage of battery savings on AMOLED screens by using black backgrounds for UI - or at least make it an option. I will always use an app that does that over a prettier white or colorful background.
