After rooting by sometime, i receive notification from market about availablity of update for super user. Should I update? Or it will make problems about rooting

Hey guys sorry for this noob question. So i rooted my s3 and have superuser. My friend has S3 with att and he has super su instead of superuser. I was just wondering why is that.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Superuser is written by ChainsDD and superSU is by chainfire. 2 different apps (& binaries?) that do the same thing (manage superuser access for you).

is it possible to switch which superuser application to use?

Yes. Download SuperSU then open it and let it update binaries + give it normal superuser permission first.
Then go to your downloaded applications and unistall any updates to Superuser. Finally, get Titanium Backup and then Uninstall Superuser.
Oh yeah and Reboot afterwards

Superuser it's what gives you root access (overly simple answer before somebody yells that I'm not exactly right)

If your question is to find out if you are rooted or not, there is an app in the play store called Root Checker that will let you know if you have TRUE root access.

Although, I just thought about it, we could of just had him open SuperUser because it will tell him if it was unable to gain root access.

Is there either a superuser or super su app installed? There should be. Try going into whichever one you have and update binary, then rerun root checker and make sure you allow access when it asks for it

You only need one or the other, not both. Stick with whichever one came with the Rom. Go to the app and under settings choose update binary. If it asks for permission, grant it.
Delete whichever one you're not using.
And all custom ROMs on here are rooted

I've noticed with superuser I've sometimes needed to run the update a few times before it'll work.
If this has been a problem since you first flashed the ROM, I'd recommend doing a complete wipe of everything and reflashing the ROM

I updated &It Worked Thanks
I had root custom cwm recovery had JB ROM installed and flashed solid ice 2.0 and booted up. Once in tried installing ROM toolbox and couldn't get root access. I still have custom recovery and super user but I have no root access. I did searches and followed all instructions but couldn't find anything on my current situation. I've never flashed a ROM and lost root. I'm on sprint but have my girlfriends s3 rooted on Verizon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I lost root on my galaxy nexus, I just restored a nandroid backup and I was back in business. That should work assuming you have a previous backup.
Try opening SuperUser and updating your binaries.

Thanks but I have no option in super user to update binary.

In super user store to the left. You should see some green and possibly Red writing. Touch there and you now have the iron to update binaries.

yes you do...open super user, slide your screen to the left, under the info tab look down and tap update binary...so easy a
caveman can do it!
Haha, not on this version Just says it's out of date. I think there's some kind of a flashable zip to update right now.

Just for clarity for future users who stumble on this thread, which method worked: updating your binaries or installing whatever is in the dropbox link?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Yes it was the flashable zip that kintwofan was so cool as to post. That's what enabled me to update binaries on the version I'm on. Great idea, that's why I wanted reply with the success but I should have clarified

Superuser app? If so you can just remove the app from /system/app and then download the new one. And it'll install.

Just update the app from playstore..
Update it.. Close the play store or you can just open it from store after update..
After opening it will ask for installation method.. Select normal one.. It will get updated.. If asks for restart.. Restart..
There you go app is updated..

No it doesnt cause any problems regarding your permissions..
After update when you open an app with root permission it will just show pop of granting and denying of permission..
In short after update you just have give permissions for apps one more time.
Dont miss the thanks if i helped you
Just flash the latest super user package
