New to the Sensation - HTC Sensation

Well my Vibrant has been replaced on a warranty exchange with a Sensation! I loved my Vibrant, but am looking forward to this device.
Just curious if there is anything i need to know about the phone? Pro's Con's.. quirks.. whatever..

It's probably the best phone available on T-mobile right now, other then the HTC Amaze 4G

welcome to world of frustration. Where you would curse the poor battery life, and wonder while using internet or making a call that why device is heating up so much...

The sensation is seriously the best phone I've had. As far as battery life goes, please read through certain posts on the forum on how to increase your battery life. I am using MIUI 1.11.18 ROM with Bricked 1.6 beta 1 Kernel and I have been getting incredible battery life. Having said that, I also use other tools like FauxClock to actually underclock the processor and Juice Defender to improve battery life even more. I'm certainly no techie but reading through these forums has helped me immensely. I can't recommend enough you research the right steps in order to improve your battery life.

how do you like it?

i too am getting a Sensation as a replacement for my vibrant. its not here yet, so just reading up until it gets here.
is this link really the easiest/best way to get the stock phone ready to flash custom roms and kernels?

any suggestions on what to read up on?

Ended up giving to my wife since I am getting an SGS II but she is getting amazing battery life. Well compared to her G2 that wouldn't make it through a day she now makes it minimum of 12 hours.. that's good for a powerhouse device.

[Q] Stock ROM vs Custom ROM Battery life

Hi i'd like to know how battery compares on the DS.
I hear many ppl say that on custom ROMs the battery is better, but by what margin?
There is a person saying he had his DS approxiametly in standby for 200hrs (stock)
then with a custom ROM 400hrs...
is that an accurate prediction... do the custom ROMs increase battery by that large margin?
i would have thought that having all the newer sense 3.0 , overclocked ROMs etc, would make the phones battery life worse than stock, but it seems not so....
Anyone can share their expierences please?
i dont know about stand by but if u ask about usage stock rom battery life sux.I'm on cm7 (right now) and must say that this rom is the best one for battery life...tried miui, lbc, virtuous and now cm7 so far and in cm7 is no drain at all...7-9mA on idle ..all roms drain fast if u use wifi ..if u really use ur phone whatever u use stock or custom rom u will must charge every day thats for sure
in some lines, when screen off i get use of:
Stock: 14-15ma
Custom 6-8ma
Meaning that custom rom uses half of current... means better battery life
yeah just like that

on standby you can see a huge increase in battery life if you use a custom ROM
but when you are actually using the device the battery life isn't changed that much as the display causes most of the battery drain & so reduction in battery consumption of most other processes does not affect the battery life much, but it definitely is a lot better
& also most custom ROMs underclock the device when the device is sleeping so that also helps the battery life
AOSP roms had battery drain issues, but the devs are working on it & it should be fixed soon(im not sure if its fixed yet)
Thanks everyone for your input!
Will be considering rooting my phone and installing a custom ROM , once i'm fully settled in with it

would just agree with what @kartkk said above.
Would also say that you are correct to delay, as there are a decent number of guides and weeks worth of reading material here in the forum to keep you busy and help you along the way.plus lots of us here willing to answer any questions you may have as you should be fairly confident what you are up to before you start flashing.

[Q] Best HTC Sensation Custom ROM and battery life

Heyy,,as the topic says which is the best custom ROM for Sensation and which ROM has good battery life?
You will get flamed for your post. Every rom its unique to its dev. Threads like this create a barrier for devs where one dev will get more quentin than another cuz of a thread like this. I suggest you try out the roms personally and stick to one you yourself prefer

my thoughts exactly, plus, have in mind that the very reason for an open source OS, a rooted device, and rom development, is that different people need and want different things out of their device.
cheers.
It differs even with exactly same install for two different answer. There is no combo that would work the same.

Would it be useful to have a thread that posts comparisons for each rom so users can compare key features side-by-side and objectively decide which might suit them best, without having to download and flash every single one?
Things compared could be key distinguishing features, kernels supported, average reported free ram, benchmark scores (controversial I know).
Just a thought
I tried 2-3 roms but atleast i think insertcoin is the best.Very very fast and smooth but best of all the battery life is amazing.

Agreed and I just flashed coredroid 2.3. So far only on complaint battery went down when first flashed.. expected.. but the problem was I plugged in my phone and turn it off then battery would not charge. Too dead to turn on. I got past that and now battery is a lot better have used non stop for about 12 hours and down to 30 percent
Would normally have to charge after about 6 on stock. So no complaints. Also I'm partial to the blue skin

+1 for Coredroid 2.3, although I need to calibrate my battery, I flashed at 60%, when it died, I swapped batteries. So far 41 % left, just over 12 hours with 2+ hours screen on. I get over a day on stock ROM with medium to heavy use on my Anker battery.

It's not just the rom you run its the custom kernal that helps out. I run Virtuous Inquisition 4.01 and I use the Socali 1.2ghz underclocked kernal for better battery life. Even though I do a lot on it I can manage to get about 20 hours on it, lots more if I don't play videos or music.
i just tried almost every rom and i made this result:
battery life:
1. opensensation (latest update)
2. android revolution hd 6.6.3
3. OrDroid 2.2.0
[..]
performance
1. android revolution hd 6.6.3
2. hyper slite insertcoin 5.3.0
3. virtous s4v alpha3
this result are totally objective.. it is just my opinion.. i didnt test elegancia rom out because its not my favor
when i flash in a ROM i will probably take Revoulution 6.6.3 .. seems really stable..
I use ViperS 1.6.3 and BrickedKernel 3.0.36 and the performance is GREAT!!
But it drains battery .... omfg, more than stock
But it's a nice rom and with heavy usage you can use your phone for quite a day... so the balance between battery drain and performance is quite okay, so it is like I think

Are you happy with your sensation?

So guys, are you hapy with your HTC Sensation? After seeing the performance, lag and battery issues, and also phone heat ups, are you happy with the phone?
Please feel free to comment!
Thanks
No. Look at the problems it got. The power button issue, which HTC KNOWS, but simply haven't fixed yet. And then there is the screen "failure", dust can come under it, and spoil the joy of having the phone. And there is also the home screen issue, when it sometimes doesn't work. Not only that, but the lack of support been given is just incredible. I have reported the issue in online chat with an HTC employee. And she simply said that I could reset the phone, delete all third-party apps. I mean WTF? If you know the problem, at least inform the workers, so they know such things. But apparently, HTC is shooting devices out! HTC sensation, then it exploded! XE,XL Rhyme, explorer, rezound. And the worst part is! They haven't fixed the audio issue, which comes when you record a video. Even in the new rezound. I am gonna trade it for a S2, if I can. Properly not. But I will give it a try.

The only thing that upset me was the squeky battery door besides that what a classic phone.....I jumped to the amaze for build quality purposes and I have zero regrets. Go HTC

I loose phone signal sometimes here at home
Wifi death grip
I 'currently' don't have any dust issues and I'm pleased about that, although I keep checking.

WOW, what are you running ? (ROM, Kernel, UC/UC/OC, ....)
I am extremely happy with it now thanx to the devs on this forum to make my life easier lol. Only thing that sucks is the battery, but i just purchased anker 1900 battery so it gave my phone extra life and using rom ARHD with Bricked Kernel 1.5r beta 2. Now for the terrible part the fron facing camera that sucks mad ass, but i dont use it anyways cause i have an itouch4g
I'm using Sensation around 3 months, I switched from the old Nokia 3510i and I don't have any single problem with it. Only issue was poor battery life.
But now Bricked 1.5 kernel with latest MIUI rom extended my battery lifetime significantly.

well ... it depends on what did you bought it for i guess. Iam well satisfied as for functionality but there are few but's.
1. The image and video quality taken with the camera is very poor (my HD Mini did better)
2. Battery life is horrible on 4G networks
3. Sense UI keeps restarting often, to prevent it you have to manually clear Sense cache
4. Network and wifi signal keeps goin up and down like on a rolercoaster
5. The HTC audio enhancement (HTC SRS) in HD movies is awful
thats the only negative things i found, all in all, its not that bad, could be worse.
I use good phones (MDA compact III-> Nokia E90-> Xperia X1-> Sensation), but this one... dream! Battery-nightmare.
Cheers
My sensation is running great.
I haven't had a single problem. Haven't had any dust, or power button issues etc.
I'm running Scott and Jon's latest MIUI with show-P's latest AOSP kernel. Running like a dream. Excellent battery life. I also got an anker battery.
I was a bit hesitant before I got this phone TBH, because of the issues I heard people talking about. But I haven't experienced any of them.
I would definitely recommend this phone to my friends.

That's a question almost imposible to answer. It is very subjective, battery life depends on the use of the phone and the features you have activated. The brightness of the screen and so on. I have used CM7 and Absolution roms and both have great battery life. I am using CoreDroid wich is a sense rom and is also great. If you flash a rom you are recommended to use the radio that works better with that rom but it is not compulsory....just make sure that you give time (at least a week) for the Rom to settle....
Before this thread is closed.like the above member said its hard to say so many roms to use. I'm on wc wild child.Rom but its closed for now Damn good Rom and battery is good. Just depends lot of roms on here offere different kernels and radio / rils to help with battery and single just look into the threads of killersolth he has so.good uv scripts to help with battery his work is amazing. each person has different experiences because they use their phones in different ways. Also each person's radio consumes different amounts because of the area they live in.You are asking for everyone's opinion which is all it is without legit testing data. This could eventually turn to a e-peen contest of 'whos best' so I would suggest try out some roms and find one that works for you. there are too many variables involved for there to even be a possible 'best rom for battery'. Rule of thumb, the less your phone does, the more battery it will conserve. So keep that in mind.

[Q] Most stable battery efficient ROM?

I didn't ask what's the most stable, battery efficient ROM on SGSII forum when my friend gave me a day. Flash a ROM, give it to your friend and see what he thinks of it, then if he doesn't like it then flash another ROM.
It's all about preference, you might like SCOM ROM (GB) but your friend might prefer CyanogenMod9 (ICS) more. But if your really looking towards battery life go for Gingerbread ROM.

You guys really can't just tell me what works for you or what you had experience with? I already tried to help once and it takes weeks before this person has free time to give me their phone to try and fix it again.
It's not like this phone has different hardware from all the rest of the galaxy s 4g's and they are dependent on the phone. They should all work the same so it shouldn't be such a big deal to ask for some measly suggestions.

Please state with reasons and what variables there are and what the tradeoffs are or you are talking out of your ass. Of course people's usages vary, but if you keep your usage constant while changing roms like you typically would or have a composite number than your can compare roms for battery life.
It's seriously not that hard to quantify which roms last longer on battery. This is ridiculous.
If it's that easy to you (may be?), do the testing and post the results. Document and publish your methodology so it can be peer reviewed. Please keep it up to date as ROMs are updated.
I look forward to your findings.

I just told you that gingerbread roms have great battery life.
There is no definitive answer bro. I dont get the same battery life as jeffsf or FBis251 on AOKP. And neither one of them get the same battery life. It really does depend on each phone and the users habits of use.
Im going ahead and reporting this thread because the community here dislikes these threads. They never end well and you have POHR people being belligerent .

As I've said before, usages vary but it's pretty reasonable to think that some people have used a few roms while keeping their usage constant. What makes it frustrating is that the people on this thread spew some faux wisdom that it's impossible to compare which it isn't.
I've had pretty good battery life so far with HebMIUI when it comes to ICS. Of course, GB ROMS such as Valhalla Final, Valhalla Black, and Octane are known for the excellent battery life.

All of this is far too subjective. Try them and make your own decision.
