[Q] Meida Player / DLNA client - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have external hard drive connected to my router. I have music and videos in this drive. How do I connect to it using Windows Phone? I can't seem to find any any app for this.
Other DLNA clients are usually able to automatically discover and play media from that drive. But not sure how to get Windows Phone to access it and play media.
I tried TVersity, it kind of works but it does not seem to play all format (my .avi files aren't playing)
I tried OnePlayer - it discovers the drive, but it only plays music.

DLNA - How to?

I watched a video not long ago of playing music with your HTC sensation through the Playstation 3 via DLNA. I've had no luck on setting it up. Has anyone did this and if so how?
No idea how to setup DLNA with a PS3, I am having problems with my Sony BDP-S570. Any help is appreciated.
I was wondering this too, when i use connected media app and select video my Tv shows up , but when I select it as a player it always state that its unresponsive, tv doesnt show the phone as a media server either
Download Twonky app from market. Open app, go through settings tv/other device should pick up phone. Any probs let me know...
Not sure about ps3 but i have used 2 player (free market app) to play music on a variety of DLNA devices.
Oops didn't see this was an old thread that got bumped!
Use the app "Connected Media"
I am using Imediashare from market, easy to setup.. work with music, photos and videos
Great!

Works like a charm!!!
You can even share online content
Has anyone had any luck sharing media to an Xbox 360? I can stream photos only, using the connected media app, via WMP on my Win7 notebook.
I'd like to know if it's possible to share stuff (photos, music + videos) directly to my XB, using DLNA or not, either way.

I use doubletwist with airsync, it allows you to airshare to ps3 and xbox360 and i think a few others too
I've. Used all apps here but no one of these are working on a Samsung home cinema system.

It's dead easy (when you know how, and for Microsoft's definition of "dead easy")
First, you need to set your Xbox up as a Media Center extender, so with both the Xbox and your computer on the network and no firewall blocking anything between them:
1. On the 360 start Media Center, it will give you a numeric code
2. On the computer start Media Center and add an extender (tasks, then along to the right)
3. Enter the code the 360 displays and you should now have the 360 accessing the MC of your computer (you can close MC on the computer)
4. Open Connected Media on your phone and select the type of media you fancy streaming
5. Select the media (for photos, it starts a slideshow starting from the pic you select, if your pics are too large then they won't show for long due to their loading times, but you can pause them on the phone and manually go through them), you should then be taken to the player screen where you can select the "Xbox 360 Media Center Extender" and done
See? Wasn't what was required obvious?
Oh you'll need your computer on whenever you want to use the 360 as a MCE, but you don't need to log in (with W7 at least - the MCE logs in with it's own account in the background).
Basically, the 360 doesn't enter DLNA mode unless it's acting as a MCE, of course there's always the chance MS will release an update that allows DLNA without needing MC on a PC, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

[Q] NAS streaming (upnp,smb) -> what's best

Hi
I know it has been posted before, but I am not yet satisfied with the solutions. Situation is that I have my mp3 collection on my NAS, I can access it via upnp, itunes server or samba.
However, there doesn't seem to be UPNP player that fully supports my setup (my mp3s are in folders Music\A\Ark\Album1\trackXX.mp3) and I am only able to play single albums. Besides that, they usually do not look very nice on my Honeycomb tablet and do not support headphones control.
Second option was mounting CIFS partition and use normal music player app (my favourite is "Cubed"). This works, but my NAS is being accessed all the time because of "media scans" etc, so it cannot properly hibernate.
Is there something better? I am getting quite jealous on iPhone/iPad users who can easily stream their whole music collection via built in iPod app.
Cheers
I also have a NAS at home, with SMB enabled. I use ES File Explorer to play files from the NAS. You could also enable the media server on your NAS, and use 'UPnPlay' from the Android Market. Good luck.
Well that's what I tried - both samba and upnp. Samba works but Android keeps checking my samba share too often, draining my battery and preventing my NAS to sleep. The other option (upnp) works, but my directory structure isn't recognized by bubbleupnp and I can only play single folder. So I am still looking for more optimal solution ;-)

[Q] help! connected media and dlna? i dont get it

I've had enough of staring at the media content I've got in Zune on the pc.
How can I stream this to my phone? I've gotbit to stream to my Xbox and assume to the phone should be simple enough....
Or is it?
Try this: http://blog.brightpointuk.co.uk/sharing-media-dlna-htc-desire-z-and-desire-hd-windows-media-player (this is for Android but for Windows Phone is the same settings in Windows Media Player)
Connected Media and similar DLNA server apps are for streaming *from* your phone *to* another system (it could be a computer, or could be a stereo setup, etc.). Are you looking for a way to use the phone as a DLNA *client*?

Any apps that let you transcode video streamed via DLNA to another device?

I have several low res videos that I would like to watch on my PS3 without having to convert them all (they are just too many). I have successfully streamed video through different apps from my phone or tablet to my PS3, including HD stuff, but of course, none do any transcoding. The videos I want to watch most do not play because they use HE-AAC, which the PS3 does not support (plays the video but the audio is a complete mess). They are quite light and I'm sure if there's any app out there that can transcode it would be able to easily handle it.
I know I can just do HDMI through the Nexus 10 or my PC, but 1) I don't want to have the PC on all the time, 2) I don't like my tablet being on all the time while watching on the TV. It will still be on while transferring the files to the PS3 but the screen will be off completely which is what I want.
Not sure you will find a Media Server app that's going to offer Transcoding directly from the phone, as it requires a lot of CPU power to do.
Skifta ( http://www.skifta.com ) does the transcoding from the computer (from what I'm told), makes the file available to your phone, which then you stream to your PS3.
But this requires the PC be on all the time, and the video you want to be sent through transcode will need to be on the computer to... Basically, it just turns your phone into a fancy remote.
Could convert them to playable media files, then stream them through which ever Media Server app you prefer.. but that would require a few extra steps.
Sidenote: Its no good to shutdown your computer often. Your HDD has a Spin Up life span...

[Q] Any media playing apps that will play media from google drive

Sorry if this has been asked previously, I have spent some time looking for a solution.
Due to the Moto G only having small memory (in my case 8gb) and no expandable memory, I was wondering if there is some music / media player that will allow me to view and play my media from Google Drive?
Its a bit of a pain for me to go into the Drive app and scout through everything to find a song which then stops playing if I come out of the app. It would be much easier if all my media in Drive was to show up in a media playing app and play in the background.
So any ideas anyone?
TIA

ES Explorer - It can integrate with Drive (and other Cloud Services and SMB shares) and has a basic music player inbuilt that will stream from Drive, and supports basic playlisting. Alternatively you can send single music files to other installed music players on the device. It has a Picture viewer as well. For video it looks for video players on the device to use as the renderer.
Alternatively you could just use Google Play Music and utilise Google's generosity in allowing you to upload upto 20,000 of your own tracks to the Play Music Server to access via streaming. They don't eat into your Drive allowance either.
Don't want to trust the cloud - set up your own Media Server on a PC/Mac/NAS at home and stream from that. Plex is reasonably OK, but you'll need to invest some time in setting it up and I'm not wholly convinced this is without security issues for your home network.
The google play music manager for my PC is just what I needed ! thanks for that I didnt know it even existed
Ive just transferred all my music from my PC into the manager and now I can access them through the music app! Thank you very much :good:
