So I see a lot of people discussing N64 emulation, and even SNES, but is there any emulator that supports Sega Genesis out there that works with the Xperia Play?
MD.EMU is the best of the lot, if you don't mind paying. If you do, Gensoid and Tiger Genesis do the job fine.
I'd assume you're already aware of the obvious one Gensoid... are you looking for something that actually integrates touch-pad support?
best in my opinion is GENPlusDroid, easy to navigate and allows rewind in game (prince of persia esc rewinding in game, great for sonic )

I'm good without touchpad, d-pad controls are just fine.

Hmm I will have to try that one as well.
Make sure you play star control when you get that emu, will keep you busy for a long time.
No matter which one you use, most Sonic games are not emulated properly. I use MD.emu because it is trhe best by far, and it will emulate Genesis CD in future versions.

I'm just sayin'... if I ever get to take Knuckles Chaotix and Sonic CD with me on the same device, I might just come to the conclusion that the gaming functions of this phone > any form of social interaction... and keep this on Flight Mode 24/7 so that nothing can interrupt me playing games

Like I've said for a while in these forums the GENPlusDroid and SnesDroid are the best for there respective systems because they provide 100% compatibility and accurate emulation at the cost of performance. I had the same problem in sonic 2 chemical plant the water was transparent instead of pink and zombies wouldn't display any map. Those two emulators are the best for oc phones

Hi guys, I was hoping we could get a project together to work on a Playstation 1 emulator for Android.
What I miss about my HD2 was FPSECE.
Something like this for us Android users (mainly snapdragon) would be awesome!
A paid app for it would be even better. (money going to whoever creates the app, not me)
Tell me your ideas on this!
+1 was thinking about this when i found at that the N900 had a PSX Emu, Chrome Broswer and Firefox :|
PSX Emu is on almost everythin except Android :/

Would be cool.. but I'm sure it would absolutely KILL the battery
How do you plan on controlling games?
I can't really see this being an enjoyable experience, unless you have a BT controller or something and you're sitting on a plane or bus where you can prop your phone up.
Iphone has it... wers its buttons ... as long as touchscreen buttons are correctly layed out across the screen it shud be fine. I dont find it hard to play the snes emu or any other emu on the nexus tbh
Also on the N900 they got the ps3 pad hooked up... maybe thats summet that can be done on android, now that would be...
I'm more interested in a n64 emulator myself.

Maybe somebody could figure or a way to connect a dual shock 3 via bluetooth. lol
I saw that someone managed to get the Wii controller to connect to the iPhone for playing games
This would be absolutely awesome!
Thanks for all the responses guys!
I think we cold make this or a N64 emulator happen for snapdragon devices.
For a physical controller:

bump. Let's get this thread going again!
I would personally love to see this happen and have loads of GI Bill money to DONATE toward the cause!

oooh! that would be awesome.
Maybe someone with C++, linux, and java can help us out
Has anyone tried contacting the developer of Fpsece or the developer of Psx4all? They might be able to help get a ps1 emulator for android.
Yes and was completely ignored...
this is a shame, with android becoming more and more popular, a KILLER app like this could change the tide faster. I hope some bright folks reconsider and make one.
Guys with the way the Nexus handles multi touch, PSX games would be near unplayable. Any game where you are pressing multiple buttons simultaneously will have a big problem translating over. Hell, this even applies to many of the SNES roms there.
sad news i was surprised on how well the hd2 handled it. damn do i miss playing psx on it
PSX emulator would be a waste of time, how do you expect to emulate 2 analog control sticks, 4 buttons and the R1/R2/L1/L2 buttons? Only very basic games would be playable.
Even playing PSX games on a PSP is difficult enough sometimes.

and it is almost done..yongzh the creator of the emulators on android and zodttd the creator of the emulators for iphone are working together on it
That is the only thing I miss about my iPhone (Android ftw though). The games are so damn good on it.
Look at this upcoming one:

I absolutely love my Nexus but the games aren't up to par. I wanna try some of the new Gameloft games but I was told that because of the multitouch limitations that the N1 has they are terrible to play.
The only games I need is pocket empires and what a doodle, I am addicted to both

and don't forget the upcoming Need For Speed Shift!

the problem with gameloft games is the very bad optimization not the multitouch
PS: forgot PolarBit too =) http://www.polarbit.com/

may be it has a lot of settings but i don't have a WII to try
its been proven that nexus one has multitouch problems so it doesnt matter what games. Games that have a joystick and action button on the bottom will not work with multitouch on the nexus one. Maybe if one is on the bottom and on at the top they would work
I'm playing at Heavy Gunner 3d actually, it have both controls at bottom of the screen and they work very well togheter on froyo, probably it was a broblem on Eclair. i've never found problems on gameloft games too (excluding optimization)
Asphalt is a money racing game.
with move2SD now activated in Froyo, why aren't the big game company making more quality Android games... so far gameloft, com2us, polarbit, deckeleven have done pretty well with their games, but we need more games...

perhaps because it's been only what a week? they need time to develop games for the android.
I'd like to see an MMO on android.
Anyone know any good final fantasy type RPGs that work on honeycomb? There is one called Spectral Souls I found in the market but it looks to be in japanese. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I have spectral souls, and it's not in japanese:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.hyperdevbox.spectralsouls
Also- Check out BattleHeart. It's much less involved than Final Fantasy, and not turn-based, but it's ton's of fun:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.KelliNoda.Battleheart
I suggest you use various emulators for android to play RPG's such as final fantasy. Also as said before battleheart is a decent one, although imo its not really Final Fantasy like.
Like you I've been keeping my eye out for some good RPG's for Honeycomb and haven't found much yet.
Emulators and some of the older ones are awesome but the emulators don't make use of a touch screen (apart from a emulated d-pad) and its the same problem with Spectal souls... I mean they go so far to get a huge tablet RPG but then don't make it fully touch?! You use emulated buttons to navigate around (apart from turning the camera! WOO!)
Battlehearts is pretty cool but a bit simple - awww can't win with me it seems
Would like souls to make use of a full touch screen (i will buy it then) or waiting for something new to come around.

I've been scouring looking for a nice android rpg but find myself in the same situation.
I'll be experimenting with the ps3 controller hooked up to the dock soon and will likely play psone rpgs that I never got around to playing years ago.
I got about 10 hours of enjoyment from battleheart, it was fun.
There's actually not many games at all optimized for honeycomb, but hopefully soon.
Been itching to try Souls but haven't succumbed to the temptation to drop the money for it.

Speaking of RPG's, what about pen and paper RPG support, like dice rollers, mappers, etc.?

if i could get uae4droid to work on the asus i'd be playing some of the KRYNN series from SSI (champions of krynn, etc.). Apparently it's a deep dark secret how to actually get the kickstart to work with the emulator.
Love this game, played it to death in the arcade when I was younger. Came out today. I have not played it yet so I cannot tell you if its Xperia PLAY optimized, but I am hoping that since the King of Fighters was optimized (sort of) this will be too.
ENJOY!!!!!

We spotted this earlier great game. Have tested and everything works D-pad and Fire as well as all the menus. The onscreen controls also vanish when press a hardware button. Made by the same people who did R-Type port, Metal slug port and they always seam to remember the PLAY

Pulstar (game previous to Blazing Star)
Radiant Silvergun (Sega Saturn / Xbox Live)
GigaWing 1 & 2

Since no one really responded with anything back then, I might as well just come back to tell all of you on the fence of getting this, that this game is very well optimized. Good, responsive hardware controls and full-screen resolution for the XP. Plus the soundtrack is awesome! Here's a gameplay vid:

Good to see that they optimised it anyway.

Mame/Neo/Cps Emulators are great but where is the challange. I like and brought these official ports (metal slug too) for 2 reasons. 1) Bluetooth multiplayer 2) a limit on credits. Where is the challange if you can keep shoving fake credits in, it makes these games too easy because you have no real death. Its like cheating and there is no point in that when you are only cheating yourself out of a good game. With metal slug on Emulator i completed in a hour (fun over). On the official port not even half way in and been playing hours worth. At least with emulators like Snes and PSX you have limits as its built in to the game (Saves states are also bad but still mean you have to get past the place your stuck on dying). I am happy to recommend these ports over the emulated way
Original MVS cartridge are 'free play' at will anyway, but you are right about arcade, nothing can beat the 1coin challenge and bt coop option is the best.
My previous bought of metal slug for android was a disapointment, few option, gallery mode, slowness this one seems better optimized. I think save state is a bless to train yourself in the hardest level without crawling again the whole intro + much more freedom to simply save your progress.
My fingers thank autofire as well. I found vsFighters a bit more difficult compare to the arcade because of the controller, xplay paddle is tiny and snk special moves can be tricky.
I've heard retroarch is very good with cartridge based games. In terms of playing GBA, SNES and Genesis titles is retroarch the ideal choice (including camelot GBA games, which i've had poor experiences in the past playing on my psp). also is psx emulation close to as good as what is available on the PSP?
I checked the reicast compatability thread and found a few titles weren't listed. They are:
-record of lodoss
-floigan brothers
-fur fighters
-tee off golf 2
has anyone tested these four games. also i saw a large amount of feedback with shenmue. whats the latest on how it handles with the current build. Thanks
