whats the best rom for nexus s 4g ICS - General Questions and Answers

What's the vest Tom you guys have found for the Nexus s 4g? I want to be able to use facelock and all. Please let me know and where to download from. Thanks!

I'm sorry. I mean what is the best rom.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App

Here you go. It was just released yesterday, fully built from source, works amazing. Has face unlock and every feature the GNex has.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354263

OK that's the one I just downloaded. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I downloaded it from my phone and went to recovery and it won't install it.

OK I think I figured it out. I think I downloaded the nrsus s file instead of the nexus s 4g file. Would that do it? Lol

Yeah, lol. You need the 4G version. The other one isn't made for the sprint one, two different phones, actually.
I think you'll like this ROM better than the SDK port.

I hope so. So I can download the file on my phone and install it? I don't have yo do it on a computer?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App

Nope. It'll just be in your download folder on your USB storage/sd card when it's done. It would be faster on a computer though, but it can be done on a phone.

Still waiting for phone to download. Computer internet is slow. So iis this the actual version of ics?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App

Yup, pretty much. It's a combo of some ported Galaxy Nexus drivers, the source code from this past week and some other stuff. It's pretty legit and awesome.
Face Unlock is a little iffy though. You gotta hold the phone almost arms length away from your face or it will say it doesn't recognize you.

I got it. I like it. Why doesn't mmswork

It's alpha 1, the first release.

It keeps saying could not find face. Email me. [email protected] if you can. I have a few more questions.

How long has the Eris been out for? How long has the Thunderbolt been out for?
Is it the 4g part that makes it difficult or is it taking about as long as any other phone? EVO, I think, got cyanogen pretty quickly when it came out...maybe I'm wrong.

Cyanogen had a good friend with an Evo that was readily available for testing. And when he released it WiMAX didn't work.

Man, that white battery cover is sexy as hell. I so want it and can't seem to find it anywhere online.

I also got the white one for AT&T.
One thing you'll learn quickly is that with the official radio on the i9020a, the data speeds are capped in the ROM. You should probably read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
You will need to unlock the bootloader and root the device in order to apply the fix but after that you will love the speeds you can get on your NS.
What radios are working well for you all? I haven't had a chance to read up on them yet.

I've got the white one on ATT as well...
i have it and love it! Although, I am considering getting the Galaxy S2 unlocked

From what i've read so far, the KB3 radio is the best for the AT&T version (i9020a)
One month later.
Do you guys regret paying full price now that the nexus s is officially on at&t. I did for a minute but then I was reminded that it have the white one so I don't regret.

ok, so is Carrier IQ on the sidekick?

I don't know where to look for it in my root folder, does anyone know where it would be or if it's on this phone?
CIQ is only on the new phone's starting the amaze to SGS2 not on the Sidekick 4G .

Update: I downloaded treve's app onto my broken Sidekick and ran it. it appears that it found no trace of Carrier IQ on the phone; however, as far as I'm aware, different OEMs may be able to install it differently, and we're just beginning to understand it, so there is the possibility that it's just installed in a different folder on this phone, or under different file names, etc. So we should probably keep an eye out for it.

do we know that for sure though? the company's been around since 2005, and apparently has made a name for themselves among the cell phone barons; surely they didn't just start shipping a product to the carriers. also, the Sidekick is only about 7 months old or so. and i think I saw a post saying it's on some older phones than that... this one may be ok, given that CIQ probably has to be modified for each modified Android version, and the one we're running is pretty unique, but it's too early to tell.
Best person to ask all that is sudvick pm him

I'm telling you what i know , CIQ has been started on RECENT device's , i'm talking about 2 month's recent .
CARRIER IQ IS NO ON THE SK4G ONLY THE NEW BLACKBERRIES the amaze, exhibit 2, and the 3 new lg phones the mytouch and the doubleplay http://www.tmonews.com/2011/12/t-mo...rnal-quick-guides-for-carrier-iq-information/

I think we should still keep an eye out, especially if the device gets upgraded to Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich -- the newer OS may add Carrier IQ.
But thanks to all who did the research on this. I am VERY relieved this forced spyware is NOT on this phone!!!

From your screen pics, it looks like you are rooted/ROM'd -- ROMS will not have Carrier IQ. Are you ROM'd or are you running stock SK4G?

Here's an idea

If you are like me that is in an ATT plan and is forced to wait an entire year to upgrade your phone here is a tip.
Right now another week has passed and we still have no reports on the ICS update we are suppost to be waiting and Jellybean is right around the corner. My guess is that this model is going to be outmoded in a matter of time and no more updates will be provided for us. This is still not official but it is a posibility. I have been looking up and Cyanogen is going to launch CM10 that is basicily Jelly. If the phone does get out moded then there is the perfect reason to root and apply CM10 when it becomes available. Sure you will no longer have the Samsung Galaxy style of android but still Jelly's UI is really beautiful and wohld work with a beautiful phone such as the Skyrocket.
