folder-based music player - HTC Sensation

it's a pretty simple question. I have my ringtones (mp3) on my sd-card, now I added some (~4 GB) of music in another folder. All i want now, is a music-player, that excludes the ringtones-folder and only shuffles the music-folder.
I tried "instinctiv" and "music player pro", but both INCLUDE the ringtone folder.
Does anyone know a good player, that plays the music-folder only?

You should try Power Amp, 15 day trial is free in the market. And if you haven't organize things, I have a folder called Media on my SDcard and in there I have Music, Movies, and Audio. I have Notifications and Ringtones inside Audio. Haven't had any problems with ringtones showing up
Sent from my Sensation

With PowerAmp you can choose which folders to scan and which not.
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium

Folder based music player = Mort player
try it, simple and awesome

thanks for answers, gonna try both.

All Good including Player Pro with it's widget.
it has that function too.

PlayerPro has a Folder Browser and you can set the Dir you want scanned for Music. I bought It because I am so used to the way my iPhone used to do music. I couldn't live without it (Genre>Artists>Albums). App is worth every penny!

Using stock music play from sensation. I made a folder called Music and dumped all my mp3s in there. Stock music player didnt play all the ringtones and such. Only the mp3s in the created folder.

in your SD card, create a folder "media", in this one create an other folder "notification" and put your ringtones in it.
i did this since the first day and my ringtones never appear in music player hope it will work for you

You can try MyMusicOn Music Player. Can configure it the setting to browse by folder.

MIUI music player works with folder view too. Not sure about the latest versions though..
Very good and simple player.

Best Audio Player?

Is anyone working on a S2P type audio player for Android? One reason that I regret going to Android is the lack of any good audio players. Using Nemoplayer and it is alright...but I want my S2P!
Until then, can anyone recommend an audio player that DOES NOT scan then entire SD card for audio files? As much as I like my 1 second audio clip for notifications, I don't want it to be included in my playlist.
S2P was ideal because all music needed to be in the /music directory. Thanks ahead of time!
You can put an empty file named .nomedia (the dot is important!) in the directories you don't want scanned.
You have just made my day! Thanks very much.
Well, that fixed my audio player issue, but now that essentially is preventing android from seeing my ringtones. So now I can either have my ringtones or an audio player that will not play my ringtones. Any way of having both?
My ringtones don't show up in the Music application, are you doing something differently?
Try Mortplayer. You can even find info about it in this forum. It doesn't use the Android media database. It scans only the folder and subfolders you designate.
guags99, mortplayer is exactly what I am talking about. Thanks for the information!
For all those who prefer other players, try to put a file named .nomedia in the directories you don't like to have scanned for Android's media library.
MortPlayer doesn't handle that file since I think it's enough to point it to the correct main folder, so you could even use .nomedia to omit audio books from your favorite tag based media player and play them with MortPlayer Audio Books.
(Of course I hope many like MortPlayer, but of course folder based navigation isn't for everybody. And I didn't like to code the 5,000,000th iTunes clone...)
Edit: Oops, skipped an important post... I think ringtones in /media/audio/ringtones (resp. .../notifications or .../alarms for those) should be regarded even with .nomedia.

Mine don't either. Maybe it's a difference between different versions of Android?
Careful
Hey guys - be careful with .nomedia - you can loose all your media files due to a silly bug in Android...

I quite like btunes. You can specify which folders for it to look into. Ive just got all my mp3s in my music folder.
Audiobooks ive got in another folder and use an audio book reader for them so btunes works pretty well for me. Also like the interface.
The key to keeping ring, notification, and alarm tones from showing up in the media player is to have them in the correct folders. And there is where the "why didn't I think of that" comes into play.
At the root of your sd card:
alarm tones go in the "alarms" folder
notification tones go in the "notifications" folder
ring tones go in the "ringtones" folder
Now your phone will be able to see the tones and use them properly, but they will not show up as media files in any media player unless you tell it to look for them (some players, such as Meridian for example, allow you to exclude folders in the application setting).
Android Delight has a great comparison between Cubed and DoubleTwist. (can't post links yet)
Those are my two favorite music apps. Cubed was my fav but for reasons in the article (syncing, ease, etc.) DoubleTwist is taking over.
I'm using btunes right now. You select the folder with your music manually. I used to use Meridian where you also selected the folders. I changed because of a bug after an update, but that might have been fixed now. I like them both becaus you can skip, fast forward by swyping (best on meridian)
one of the best audio player is deadbeef. simply to use, GUI is perfect, sound is clear.

[Q] How can I play music by folder - Sensation XE

Hi everyone,
My Sensation XE is completely stock, not rooted or anything.
I have a few folders storing songs, & I'd like to play the music by folder.
How do I do that?
Thanks,
D
Well, as far as I know you can't play music by folder...Unless inside the folder there is only one album. Then it would show as different albums, not folders.
Hope I helped.
Have a good day.
There are a few paid apps that will allow you to play by folder, e.g. poweramp and winamp. An excellent free app alternative is mort player, which can also play folders.

Beats Audio doesn't work with these paid & free apps correct?
I'm trying poweramp per your suggestion & I feel like it's not as good as stock player with Beats Audio.
I'd like to be able to use Beats Audio or a program equivalent.
Please advice
Thanks.
Seems PowerAMP did get something to do with Beats support recently: http://powerampapp.com/2012/02/poweramp-v2-0-5-build-473/
I use the stock player with beats audio. It does not play foldersm but there is a workaround - you can create m3u playlists in each folder.
The stock player can see/play those just fine. Its just like playing the folder but requires a bit of extra work.
I run linux and use a script to auto generate m3u playlists for each of the folders on the computer, so whenever the files are synced up, its always up-to-date

yeah, seems like creating a play list is the only way to work around it for stock player & Beats audio.
Your linux approach sounds like a great idea. But I know nothing about it. Wish you were my neighbor hehehe.
Thanks gentlemen!

[Q] HTC Music adds IGO audio files to playlist.

The HTC Music player added IGO audio files to my Music library and this is very frustrating. I can make a playlist without them but everytime I add new songs to my phone I must update the playlist so this is not a solution. I want to exclude the IGO folder or something like this because now I have so many audio files that are not songs in the music player.
Please this is very frustrating. I can't listen to my music normally what a bull**** again. Could recommend me a player that I can solve this issue with if the dumb HTC player can't solve it.
Not sure if it'll work with HTC's player, but usually when you add a ".nomedia" file to the folder with stuff you don't want to show up, they won't be added. Could be worth a shot. If not, use Google Play Music when you're on ICS - it's only good with hardware acceleration.
Worst case scenario, buy Poweramp. It's decent.
Thanks a lot! Cool trick. But when you add a .nomedia file you must go to Settings-Apps-All Apps-Media Storage and Clear Data and restart the phone. That did the trick

[Completed][Q] App to listen to my own audiobooks

Hi,
I have a few downloaded audiobooks which I would like to listen on my Samsung Galax 4s. I have dowloaded to my music folder and I can listen to them but:
1. Any time I want to stop listen to my audiobooks and listen to music, music app is not remembering my audiobook position etc
2. If I shaffle my music collection, my audiobok tracks are also mixed.
What is the proper procedure to copy my audiobook from my pc to S4 or any other android phone (which folder etc)?
Is any special app (free) which I can use to listen to my audiobooks to keeps them seperate from my music collection?
Do I need to copy my audiobooks to special folder? If yes, which folder?
Thank you,
citygatetwo
Please review MortPlayer This is one of my favorite Player for Audio Books. Your typical Music Players are not designed or meant for playing Audio books or bookmarking process either. Your Audiobook collection needs to be in a separate folder and your music needs to be in a different folder. For Mort, set the Audio Book folder as default startup folder.
Thread closed. Thank you.

ISO music player app

I am looking for a music player app. Nothing fancy. I have 1 request that it MUST do.
I have 2 folders on my phone: "Music" and "Audiobooks"
I want the music app to play stuff ONLY found in the "Music" folder. So far every app I have tried cannot be regulated to 1 main folder (in "Music" I have many sub-folders). So when I push shuffle I get audiobooks in there as well. I do not want that.
This will be installed on an unroofed galaxy 5S with up to date software.
I would recommend MortPlayer Music and MortPlayer Audiobook!
I use it myself for many years and I'm satisfied.
Oh common man...you can do that with any music player.....just rename the folder "audiobooks" to ".audiobooks".......ie just put a dot before the folder name..... And all music players will stop scanning files from that folder..... You may need to clear media database first......for that simplest method is settings-apps-all apps-com.android.providers.media-clear data.......then reboot and wait for a while so that all the stuff in our gallery and music player comes back...this time nothing will show up from audiobooks folder.
GoneMAD Music Player. You can select which folders are to be scanned and thus which audio files are shown in the music library.
I believe poweramp has this feature, too.
Honestly, if you want to go deep with it, I would use this modded Sony Walkman app. It is awesome and most, if not all features work depending on device and Android version.
Check it out HERE
