[Q] GTalk not found in Market and Android refuses to install APK - General Questions and Answers

GTalk is an app that is essential for me. I had to format my Samsung Epic today and tried to reinstall GTalk but I couldn't find it on the Android Market. I downloaded several APK files to my Epic but the phone would respond with "Application not Installed". How can I get Gtalk on my phone? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.
Model: Samsung Epic running Gingerbread 2.3.5

I think you have to drop it in your system/app as opposed to installing it like a regular apk

Do you know how I would do that? Thank you for your help!

Skype with Video

How soon do you think it will be before Skype with Video gets ported over to the EVO? The Nexus S guys already got it...
I want this too...

I think its as easy as tricking the system into beliving we have a nexus s just as it was for others when the netflix released for only certain htc devices.
If we could just get the nexus s build.prop and change our device name to what theres is i think it would work. anyone have a friend with a rooted nexus s and rootexplorer installed to check it out and post the device name ???

I'm no expert but I do not think it is that easy. If it was it would have been done back when the one for the thunderbolt came out. There is already a thread for it HERE (not Evo specific). If you look at the last page or 2 it is referencing the one that was just released.
Looks like someone confirmed this works on the evo. I did try making a call myself but the other person didn't answer so I cannot confirm it works 100% but it appeared to work fine.

This is working on my EVO. Someone posted a patched APK. I think in the Nexus S forums. Anyhow, works on EVO Shift, S, S2 etc.
I never made an actual video chat but the window loaded up and video was showing via the front cam.
Try it out...
I tried this but the other person couldnt see my video. I could see ny video on my screen but when they enabled their video, mine went black and they couldn't see me.

Can someone please upload the apk? I can't download that rar from my zoom. Thanks.
I can comfirm this patched apk works with video !! I have been waiting for this a long time !!
in the android market, download a file manager and then extract it to a folder on your android phone... and then the apk will show up and hen install it.
sorry this is a reply to qpstatus
skype2_0_45.rar worked for me. One thing though is that until I updated my Mac client to the dreaded 5.1 (user interface fail) from 2.8, video was not working -- when the call started, the video button on the Mac side would actually get grayed out. 5.1 works just fine. Makes me wonder what version is required on the Windows side to be compatible with the Android client.

That doesn't help. The issue is that when I try to download attachments via XDA from my stock browser on my Xoom or Evo it won't download successfully. The download gets to 100% and says unsuccessful.
For some strange reason it does let me down .apk's successfully.
Force close on Evo 4G.. "The application Skype (process com.skype.raider) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
Boo :/
*edit, I just read that video chat only works on 2.3(?).. sorry, but I'm not changing ROMS just to use Skype*
Having issues with video calling - my front camera is not picking up any video. Tried lowering the quality and connecting 4G,Wif,3G all with no success - it's just a black screen on my end - and the spinning circle on the far end.
Anyone have any suggestions?
empty zip?
I seem to be haveing the same problem as gqstatus0685. The zip seems to be empty cannot extract anything from it... running latest stock odexed sense rom likely user error will keep working on it. let me know if anyone has any solutions..
Here's a link to the direct .apk -- just download and install.

Just navigate to the file with Astro or File Manager and click on it. Make sure you have "Allow install from unknown sources" checked (Settings >> Applications >>). Should install after a double click.

I wonder if Cyanogen is causing my error?
EDIT: Flashed King's 7.3 - works great... Gonna try a few other ROMs to see what happens. At the moment Cyanogenmod's 7 - "update-cm-7.0.3.1-Supersonic" does not allow my video to go through. Will update with further testing.

APP: Gtalk video chat app installer

Here's the gtalk with video chat everyone's been waiting for, just install like a regular apk file. Developer information is in the app with instructions on how to install. DO NOT DELETE ORIGINAL GTALK APP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I get a "Parse error"
"There is a problem parsing the package."
Is there a specific ROM design to run this?
Stock ROM or any GB?
Thanks
FYI, this installer is available in the Market as "Talk 1.3 Installer".
I'm running infused 2.1 and it worked fine for me. I didn't know it was on the market though.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Also, since Serendipity VII usually comes without GTalk installed unless you hit the "addons" section of Mikey's site, the "backup" function of the app won't work.
However the installation function works fine.
Installed... and seems to work fine!!! Running on Infused 2.1.0!

I can't find the installer in the market.
Maybe it was pulled.
It's still there, I just saw it " talk installer"

I, Too got the parse error. Hmmmmm
hmmmm, must have got pulled again, I see nothing at all regarding Talk 1.3, or talk installer etc.
i searched "talk 1.3" on market.android.com and found it just fine and pushed the install to my phone. installed just fine and works great.
Serendipity Infuse v7
Downloaded and installed successfully from the attached file. Checked the market, and talk 1.3 is there.
Quick question though, you have to be on WIFI to use the video feature? It wouldn't let me unless i was on WIFI
I to am Running Serendipity 7

Doesn't work. Parsing error...

Thanks for posting these, febycv. Are these the same apks that were released last week or are they from a system dump?
Thank you now I want the launcher x.x

I'm getting an "Application Not Installed" prompt after trying to install...
I'm using a Samsung Captivate running stock Gingerbread 2.3.4... I897UCKH3 Base (although I have root access and a stock gingerbread kernel with CWM [boog])
Thanks for sharing your work. Hopefully I can get these working.
PS-
Do you have any plans on looking at the "Galaxy4.apk"?
It appears to me to be the Galaxy Nexus "Galaxy Live Wallpaper"...
After looking at the PNGs it looks like a really nice live wallpaper.
This is a dump of the Galaxy Nexus System Apps...

Every app that is system it says app not installed
Is it true that the Gallery.apk won't work on previous versions of Android?
Whats the change with the new G maps??
If you're getting the app not installed error, uninstall the one in your phone then install the new one and it should work.

Umm, that Gmail apk probably only works on Honeycomb and higher, right?
Can someone rip the 1.0 Google Plus widget to work with 2.0?

for me, Music, G+, Market and Streetview works. Maps not, can't install. Deleted the old one, changed permissions, no clue.
I uninstalled the original market app with TIB. I'm using Astro to install the .apk, and getting the "not installed" error. I'm using CM7 (2.3.7) on a Droid 2.

If you want the market to work...
First go to
Setting > Applications > Manage applications > All
look for Market, clear data, clear cache, and force stop.
then copy the vending.apk from /system/app and place it in a safe place on your sdcard (as back up) and then copy the 3.2 version to the /system/app folder and rename it to vending.apk and reboot

I flashed this one.....http://www.mediafire.com/?tty10kvri734vte...... recovery and have yet to have a single issue after 2 weeks. No uninstall, no clearing anything, just flash in recovery over existing.
What about the keyboard?
