We all have noted that android system process in the battery stats is responsible to considerable wake locks and cpu usage ! well i have finally found a solution to this ! all u have to do is settings>privacy>uncheck back up my data ! and DONE android system should consume lesser battery it works u'll barely notice android system in the battery stats ! REMEMBER it wont show u effect if ur 50% on battery as the process would hav already taken up battery ! once fully recharged u'll notice the difference

NEW topic is NECESSARY to spread the news ! that process used to consume 20-30% of battery now it consumes 6-8% ! if battery life is not important to u, BUZZ OFF and FYI this is not mentioned in the HELP TOPIC IN THE TASK MANAGER :|

no offense shriomman but noobs like you don't know that every 'running' process in the back consumes battery and that is what is written there..
anyways congrats on your noobistic find
If it is unchecked, which data wouldn't be backed up, which previously was getting backed?
ok guys dont fight. Back to topic.
juicedefender will make much more battery life increase (including backup deactivate i think) but thanks for the backup information

thanks for clearing that up. if it's only backing up to google, then it would be considered "inactive" and not use any battery if you're not connected to the internet by either mobile data or wireless, right?

/INFO Rant BEGIN
Just install system tuner app and run it... There are various layers of tasks, process, threads going on in background at various levels which have their own hierarchies and distribution.... And for those who do not know all details about functioning of tasks & the OS's handling of memory, do some research on google... Coz already there is lot of controversy regarding various threads & processes.... There are 2 schools of thoughts for people in favor of task killing / manual memory management and there are OS developers and Cyanogen himself who say that task killers are unnecessary! So read about it people...
Aside from that for all those people who wish to have good battery life..
Make a nandroid backup of your current state... Then try selectively freezing few user & system apps in titanium backpack pro... If not sure of what to freeze... LEARN to google it!

The suggestion by shriom is solid...
I HAVE PERSONALLY FELT DIFFERENCE in battery life after stopping this as well as saved money on my data by disabling market auto updates...
And try to follow what was written in my rant rather than blame shriom..

Hey all. This is version 2.0 of my app installer. Gone is the 550 line batch file and here is a nice little GUI!
This app is the first step on the way to a full on visual kitchen for Android, but it may be a while before that becomes a reality. Right now this is really only designed to push back the stock applications that came with the CDMA Hero but were removed in Fresh ROM. However if you look around a little bit you will find a secret menu that lets you push whatever apk/odex you want (will be pushed to /system/app).
I have also added a button to clear your cache. This is a nifty little trick that is similar to clearing your temp and prefetch folders in Windows. It can help fix random issues like programs displaying wrong version numbers, an icon that isn't working after a rom flash (the voicemail icon is notorious for this) or any other little issues that just appeared.
As always, please report any known issues. This is another 4am release so there's bound to be mistakes. The only issue I know about so far is that after closing it in Windows 7 I get a dialogue pop-up saying that CDMA Hero App Installer may not have installed properly (it thinks the program should be installed rather than just ran). I'm looking in to the issue but right now it's just a minor annoyance and doesn't affect anything.

Works great. I wanted Sprint tv back for Thursday night football. One thing when prompted yes or no, type the entire word. Y or N will not suffice and will result in an error. Very well done and super easy to use.

Copy/paste me your "interaction" with the program and I'll check out what the problem might be. I'm throwing another batch script style program like this together that will help people disable some programs that are auto-starting. i should really learn how to just through a quick gui together. I hate programming though. ha.

wow! i can't belive it. i've installed cm7.2, because ics and jb have so much battery drain! only 12-14 hours in idle and with wlan sometimes even less! i've tried several kernels but no real changing.
my wish are only 24 to 36 hours runtime (mail, some messages, weather and traffic)!
which rom do you use? which kernel and what settings?
Thats why i posted this. So Many comments about battery drain. As i said i am on jellytime from blindndumb. Kernel 3.0.42. Switching mobile data or wifi only on if i need to.
hmmm that's the problem. i absolutely need mobile data for whatsapp and mail!

maybe you can use Tasker to swich data on/wifi on every 15 minutes to get an update...
BTW. I always have data/wifi on. I think smartphone without data is like fish without water
a couple of sms, 3 calls and surfing with smartphone is quite shocking actually...huhu...i used whatsapp, gmail, wifi (downloading) navigating with google maps, gaming quite frequent...so 1.5 days of usage is really makes me happy....fallout 5.0 with amidabuddha latest kernel really impressive...

I am also using data, but only at specific times. 3 or 4 times a day. I would really like an APP, that switches on data if i switch on the screen, and off if the screen turns off. My Mail is loaded if i turn on data anyway. Does someone know such an APP?
i've read this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31686138&postcount=72
maybe the reason for the bad battery drain is the newest htc radio..... at home i'm going to test it and flash the kernel! i hope this will be the answer to everything..... i can't belive it!

I have just yesterday flashed Fallout evoliution v5 ROM abd with UV custom voltage -50 and CPU set 1200mhz max on Active and 500Mhz Max on sleep and i got 2% Drain of battery in 11,5hours. It got from 100% to 98% It was on standby aswell and i did 1- 2 mins call and did 2 or 3 Text messages. And when i started Some mid- heavy usage it drained to 65 % in 4,5 hours. So its not best but its not something you should fear, it is completely reasonable for every day usage.

There is APP called tasker, it can pretty much make your phone super smart. But it asks for a lot of setting up. You can make your phone for example every time your gps app is turned on to turn GPS receiver on and shut it down on closing the APP, or in your case Switch data ON when you turn browser or app store on and turn data off after you close that program or screen is off.
As i said it is very smart APP which makes your phone very smart aswell, and it can make multiple scenarios and it can look up for multiple variables at the same time to make a decision

Hi, the other day i installed the JellyBean leak. And since that day, the battery had a GREAT life.
But, today, i don't know why (Well, yes, i do now why) my battery had a terrible life.
And, there's a curious process that is killing it.
It's name is: 'Mediaserver'.

Any contraindications?
don't know but you might need to un freeze drm for i believe some type of files needs the service to be playable
why fix it if it ain't broken ?

Forget about my question. My english is bad, and i can't express myself right
I want to stop that process, because is killing my battery and i don't want to.
So, i freezed the process, and today i'll see if that process still bother me.
Edit:
Well @nikufellow, your answer didn't work. I freezed the DRM content. But, still drain the battery.
But, the good part, is that i desactivated the sync, and now, i think the battery is going great.
It was that all the time (i believe). The sync of the accounts.
Edit 2:
Mmm, nope. I was wrong. The 'mediaserver' process is in the top again, with 43% usage.
Are you using Google Play Music? Maybe experiment with that. Maybe disable sync for just that, or remove the app and see if anything changes.

If you have backups on the phone and they are in DUP change them to tar.

WOW.... does no one read or search on google anymore?
All you need to do to get the mediaserver app to stop "searching" your phone all the time and draining the battery, and using CPU, is to put a file in all your media folders on the phone that is empty and called .nomedia
Notice that there is a dot (period) before the filename, this is important.

I am not trying to be a jerk here, but with all the posts in here, and it appears that no-one even thought to google this, just irks me a little bit.
To the OP, create an empty file in all the directories on your SDcard named .nomedia, and see if that helps to stop the 'mediaserver' from eating CPU and battery. This has been an issue since the 1.8 days of android with certain file types and has only gotten worse over the years.

I already did all the pseudo-solutions that appears on google. And no one works. That's why i made this thread.
But, the solution that works for me, was, formatting the sdcard. That was the solution that i don't wanted to do.
You had the two solutions.
DRM freeze and tar instead of dup.

As a member stated it's the google play music (i believe). Cuz since I stopped using Google play music and switched to poweramp, i don't see it on ma battery consumption list!

Your concern is rightly understood. Yes, we have also researched on all similar apps and no one is actually effective. Hence, we have designed this amazing app. This app will get few more updates and then you will realize its effectiveness.
Please wait for few days. We are also making a video on real time scenarios. Then, all users can know how amazing this app works!!
Thank you and we need more feed backs to improve this app.

Very nice and detailed feedback. We have indeed started working on them. If not in single update, we will implement in phases.
Thanks a lot. We will work harder to make it the most effective tracking app...

It's great that Trojan is detected by the app. That's our purpose.
Please let us know the issue. We will resolve asap.

Hi all,
Few users reported minor issues with the app. Hence, we tested the app rigorously and republished. Please check out.
Seems like a vague description. Whatever this app does I'm sure it's not important

GPS feature development is completed for Android 2.3 and lower. For higher versions, as it is different process, we are working on it.
Okay, so to make a long story short I have terrible battery life. (See image below)
I don't even game, all this time the only thing I did was listening to music trough my headphones whatsapp, and some low usage of Facebook (Messenger). Nothing special in my eyes.
2h55 min SOT. This is really the worst battery life I ever had on every phone, I have this for a couple of months now already. And I am so done with it.
I am looking for options:
Will a new kernel help me out? If so, which one? I don't like fine tweaking. Just a new kernel that works, no tweaking and that works for battery life. I heard FrancoKernel, or ElementalX is good. But keep in mind I just need a kernel for battery/performance. Not for fine tuning.
I will also install xXx No limits. Is this recommended for my case?
I want to know all of your opinions on this, and with my batttery life in mind. Because I really want to get this fixed, I am getting annoyed so much.. Thanks!

There are really no specials apps installed. Also Battery usage (detailed) doesn't give a lot special.

Nope I am not rooted. I am looking for options what can cause this and preferable without root. I am afraid that root will only will make things worse, while this already really worse.
Do you use Chromecast? its so poorly optimized its insane.

In the months that you've been dealing with this, have you factory reset your phone?

Yes, its a while ago now. I think it has been 1-2 months ago. But I can remember it didn't make a huge difference. The thing is, I can't reset it because of banking applications and working abroad. (I wont be able to install them again). And I am pretty sure it wont help.
So I am looking for a kernel option or other tweaks..
There's no miracle, a kernel won't help significantly. You just need to track what's draining your battery. Delete ad many apps as possible, deactivate system apps you don't need.
You can try deep clear in the recent apps management and turn off smart boost in the laboratory.
You might have to replace the battery if the other suggestions don't help
Download Accubattery from play store and charge your phone above 80% then check battery heath, i have 86% health and it's pretty good.
Also if you oem unlock bootloader it will wipe everything.
Your doing something wrong.
Tinder much? Or u checking to many IG babes?
Edit: in that case nothing wrong, but something else is wrong (logs plz)
I'm experiencing exactly the same. Idle battery drain is about 1,5% per hour, I hardly get more than 3 hrs of screen on time. I do think it has something to do with the OS, but can't figure out what...
Go in Google settings, location, scan, and check in wifi and Bluetooth are enabled. This combo drains a lot
Airplane mode + Wifi enable.
