man, the settings setup is an abortion... - Motorola Atrix 2

i can spend an hour trying to figure out the structure of motorola's settings. seriously, how many different menus do i have to search to find simple things like email sync?
then, i used the stock music app for the first time today, my album art disappeared, now i keep getting dlna notifications. so now i cannot for the life of me find where the dlna notifications keep coming or why they keep coming. i have media share disabled in the music app and i cannot find any dlna settings anywhere in the settings app.
why couldn't there just have been a sync menu in the settings app? then list email, social crap, media, etc. and the individual settings be under there. i understand a lot of this is because of the battery and data saver stuff, but still, keep it simple.

LOL. Why did you have to search hella different menus to find email sync? I never even tried to find that before but after reading your thread I went into settings and found it in the very first place I looked, accounts. Seemed easy enough. As for DLNA notifications, I have no idea what that is either but after reading your thread I did what I thought was the most logical thing and opened up the DLNA app, hit the menu button and tapped "settings". Hmmm. Album art disappeared? Interesting. I've had my phone for 3 weeks now and none of my art disappeared. I dunno man.
I can think of a few things to complain about but none of them would be what you just posted

dlna > settings takes you to media share, which is also located in music > settings and gallery > settings. all of which are marked none for sharing. yet, i continue to get dlna notifications.
when you go to settings > accounts, sure, you can control your gmail sync, but, if you have other email accounts that are non-google, and click on them in accounts, it's just the server settings. you have to go to settings > battery and data manager > data delivery > email and corporate sync > email delivery to change sync/fetch schedules. i also have sync off for my gmail accounts and my other accounts are set to manual for fetch, yet, i continue to have email pushed to me. gmail folders under folder sync buried deep in batter and data manager, inbox is greyed out and cannot be changed. it's just listed as sync in background.

calendar: missing menu + holidays

Recently I updated from TnT 2.0.0 to 2.0.2, and I notice that the menu & return button on the notification bar has disappeared. In fact, they appear for half a second and then got covered by the notification bar, and now I can't change mode (day/week/agenda). The return button on the side of the g-tablet still works, but the menu button does not -- only for this app! Any suggestion?
One more calendar question, and I noticed that even back in 2.0.0: the calendar app does not show US holidays. The holidays do show up when I log into google calendar directly; they also show up on my pandigital novel, so this is an issue with the g-tablet calendar app. Any suggestion?
Bonus question: I thought that TnT 2.0.2 is supposed to have a different calendar & contact app than 2.0.0, but they look the same to me after the update. And I know there's an update since I now have a "home" button and long-press on home gives "recent apps". Any suggestion?
Are you able to select your online Google calendar?....I can't. I have my calendar on two separate android phones but not on this tablet. When I go into settings to select calendar from the Jorge app...there is nothing.

I just borked my calender for stupid unrelated reasons, but this is what I did to get it working (I believe others have similar things; search!):
* fire up the contact app
* click menu > add account > choose corporate
* enter your google account info, make sure you enable both contact & calendar sync
* once you're done, go back and turn off and then back on both contact & calendar sync. I found that I had to do that a couple of times before the calendar syncs.
YMMV! Now, back to fixing my borked contact :-(
If you're wanting the calendar and contacts to work on your gtablet the same way they do in basic Android (without having to use the Add a Corporate Account kludge, and to see multiple calendars), I figured it out:

Requires wiping your user data to start fresh (on TNTLite 2.0), but it is doable.

[Q] xoom chrome bookmark sync

What's the deal....syncing is sporadic at best.
Anyone know the trick yet?
You need to go into settings then applications and clear all data on browser, then sync and should work fine.

Yup, I have the trick you're looking for. After some trial and error, I figured this out. Its essentially a method by which one can refresh the saved attributes (in this case bookmarks) across all Google/Chrome outlets:
1) On your desktop, open Chrome and sort out your bookmarks as you would like them.
2) Then, in Chrome, on the menu bar under "Chrome", go to "Synced...", and click "Stop syncing this account", and then click the pop up to "Stop syncing".
3) Right after that, in the same location, click "Set Up Sync..." (you'll be prompted to sign in to your Google account, so do it). Once you've signed in, you'll be prompted again; this time, check off the Bookmarks option as the item you'd like to sync (no need to check off anything else. Leave the other option for Google Account password ticked as it was.
4) Click "OK" and presto, your bookmarks will be refreshed across all Google/Chrome devices or browsers. At this point you can check your XOOM to verify that those bookmarks have updated.
Its too bad they don't have a slightly easier option for doing this, but its not bad and it works. And the best part is you don't have to do a thing on the XOOM to make this happen (i.e. no wiping of browser data like saved passwords, etc.) So every time you'd like to tweak your bookmarks, or change the order of them as they appear in your XOOM's bookmark list, I have found that this is the best method you should follow.
Enjoy!

The method I've detailed above is the best way I've found to truly get this to work; I've tried your method with extremely mixed results on many occasions.
EDIT - oh and by the way by your method you'll clear out any saved passwords for websites, etc, so if you want to keep any of those, this might not be a great idea. Just an FYI

ok, tried this and it synced my bookmarks bar and one of my & bookmark folders. Any suggestions for getting the other 5 folders to get synced?
Strange that its a partial sync. Its almost as if the sync process is time limited. Couple more milliseconds and it would be complete. Just speculating
By the way, I did get a full sync a couple of weeks ago. But a FC requred killing the cache and I accidentally killed the saved data too. PITA

Well the only thing I have now figured to do, with regard to utilizing the "Other Bookmarks" folders is to 1) populate your bookmarks bar with everything you'd like, and then 2)long press on the bookmark(s) you'd like to place in the "Other Bookmarks" folder, then click "Edit", and at that point you can select the location where you'd like this bookmark to appear. Once its there, if at any point you want to change the order of any of your bookmarks, you'd have to come back into Chrome on the desktop and take care of it there (followed by the syncing procedure I already outlined). Again, hopefully Google will come up with an easier method than this eventually
I had the same problem and got hold of the developer of chromemarks who informs me that its Google "throttling" the amount of bookmarks synched!
In Chrome, you can you goto the addess "about:sync" (no quotes) and you
should get some stats. Then you look for the "Unsynched count"
My original count on synch start was: 3,085
Mine shows today: Unsynced Count - 2,320
It is generally going down around 50 to 100 per day! So I will be waiting for some months before I get all my bookmarks synched!

You seriously have that many bookmarks? I think you'd be better off with a list of sites on the internet that AREN'T bookmarked, it'd be shorter!

Thanks for the tip. I had over 1000 unsync count and watched it sync to 0 in a matter of minutes.
Hmm.. I have 0 unscynced according to about:sync but I'm still missing folders on Xoom :/

Actually seem to have fixed the issue. There were just a few root folders that were not being synced.. Renaming them on my desktop computer triggered a sync on my xoom.
so the problem is fixed now.
I deleted my chrome sync data from google dashboard and then added I back and xoom now has all my bookmarks and folders

[Q] What setting components are backed up by Google?

As you all know under the privacy settings, there is an option that lets you back up your settings. I am wondering what exact components of the settings are backed up there? I know contacts, emails, calendars,....are synced (i.e. backed up) in accounts and settings, and i noticed that, for example, my ringtone or wallpaper is never restored after wiping the phone (and of course checking the automatic restore option).
So again, what exact settings are backed up then?
no clue?!...
I'm not 100% sure but I believe just contact, email, calander, socical settings like google talk. They have a dashboard that stores, website searches, blogger, ext, just about anything at all that's Google related. You can take a look at your personal dashboard to see what is exactly stored their on you. It's quite a list. It lists your devices, playstore activity, much much more. Then you will know exactly what is stored

[Q] newbie to android. Have some Q's

Hi TIA for helping.
issues need help with
1) how do i play music movies? on the ios itunes handle everything. i searched and most mfg has their own skinned player, but naked android??? cant figure it out.
2) how do i delete photos from "gallery" autobackup album?
3) is there a app to import profile pics to contacts from G+ (even if they are not in your circle). I had luck with a FB importer called sync.me
4) whats a good flash light app that doesnt require launching the app to activate. ie: activate with 3taps of the volume key.
5) can some explain to me hangouts. someone said its like imessage but i dont get it yet. imessage was based on phone# or email. hangouts if i am understanding is tied to your circles (of which i have 0). please correct me if i have it wrong.
6) is there a way to see notifications on the lock screen with a swipe down. (i have a pin enabled). - i dont like unlocking to see the notifications.
1) Google play music or any music player you get on the play store will easily play any music. For Android, there is no itunes (duh) , so either download music and have it on googles cloud services, or you can drag and drop the mp3 files into your phone.
2) Well if these photos are from your google account/gmail , heres what you can do first go to settings -> Google -> under accounts select the gmail -> uncheck Google Photos or Google+ photos. Then from your homescreen, hit the app drawer, press and hold gallery, drag it to the top where it says app info. Then press clear all data and clear all cache (this doesnt delete any photos, so it wont cause any harm). By doing this you won't have the auto synced photos anymore.
4) theres plent of flashlight apps that all do the same. just search up flashlight on playstore and the first few results are your best bets.

1) Google Play music comes with your phone and its awesome. You can use it as a subscription for unlimited streaming or upload your own music and stream it (or DL onto the device).
2) Go to settings>apps>all>gallery>delete cache and app data (you'll also want to go to settings>accounts>google account>uncheck the photo account stuff from there.
3)Unsure, try going to G+ app and having it sync contacts
4)I use smart tools...it has a bunch of tools in it and also includes a flashlight "widget". To add a widget, go to your app drawer, press widgets at the top and drag and drop the widget onto your home screen.
5) Hangouts is just a central location or Google hangouts and SMS. You can hangout with your friends if they also have hangouts or you can SMS them normally.
6) I don't think you can swipe down when you have a PIN (defeats the purpose of the pin). Try Dashclock in the app store. It has some cool extensions and might be able to help.
Let us know if you need any more help!
Thanks everyone.

10 Facebook App Settings You Should Change Right Now

Whether you are concerned about Privacy or just that Facebook is consuming most of your limited mobile data, these 10 settings got you covered.
Well, if You log into the Facebook App (in this case Android App) here are my top 10 settings that you should Change and my reason for telling you to change it.
#1 SAVE YOUR LOGIN INFO (ON THIS DEVICE)
DON'T DO IT at least for security reasons. If you log out of the device, your login info still remains there if you didn't wipe Facebook app data and that could lead to a security breach.
#2 TURN OFF LOCATION.
Facebook uses your location for mainly ads and other kind of profiling so, always turn it off. That doesn't mean that Facebook won't know your location but at least they'll have to do a little more work to Get it (as I'll show later)
#3 TURN OFF START VIDEO IN TIMELINE WITH SOUND FROM SETTINGS
Anyway, this mainly serves Facebook interest were ads that pop up on timeline plays Automatically. At least, give yourself the chance of being the one to click on an ad because the title is catchy or the thumbnail interesting.
#4 TURN ON OPEN LINKS EXTERNALLY.
You should be the one to choose which browser opens URLS from inside Facebook App. If not, Facebook will automatically track your browsing history, activities and behaviors
#5 CLEAR YOUR BROWSING HISTORY
Since you have turned on open links externally, it is important that you also clear any browsing history left on Facebook.
#6 AUTO PLAY VIDEOS ON MOBILE DATA AND WIFI
May not be bad if you are on unlimited data plan but come on, on mobile data too? by default? Not a good news if you are on limited data. Moreso, this dumps a lot of data on app cache.
#7 & #8 ADS PREFERENCES
Ads Preferences setting is interesting because it has a lot of settings on by default that makes you want to wonder why they are on by default. There are two major parts I looked at here - Your information and Ads settings you just have to turn everything off.
#9 OFF-FACEBOOK ACTIVITIES - TURN IT OFF!
This one is so deep we made a YouTube video for it you just have to turn it off.
#10 Privacy settings.
There are loads of settings in the privacy settings that you need to change by default. You really need this one...

What great advices thank you
Or else, uninstall the Facebook crap and use a browser with an ad-blocker to access. Better yet, delete the application altogether. With the number of times, Facebook has leaked user data, I would advise to not use it at all.
