a update is risk free- ZUNE make before update it a complete backup from your phone- if you get any problems - you can restore it back . 7740 update are o.k- is not affected to chevron unlock
That is the tethering firmware update.
Cannot comment on Tethering firmware stuff as I havent used it but like mirolog said you always get to have a backup so go ahead and try
Maybe M$ need to be more straight when talking about updates lol

has anyone figured out how to add custom ringtones to devices with nodo already installed on them?? i cant believe microsoft is waiting so long to allow people to use custom ringtones on their devices.
i know before the nodo update you had to have the device unlocked with the chevron unlocker but now if im understanding correctly that no longer works with nodo is there anyway to get custom ringtones on wp7 devices with nodo?
Only one way: Flash back to shipped version 7004, then Chevron it and side load the custom ringtone app. Finally, update to NoDo. Notice that you will be able to sideload any app after NoDo update because it is already unlock before that.
how do i flash back bought a used dell venue pro i wanna unlock my device
when you go to zune.. on the update page.. when it says theres no new update it gives you the option to restore

I have ver.7392 on my Focus. I tried what you said but it doesn't show that option. I wanted to had reset my phone but I have Chevron and didn't want to lose it. Is there anywhere else to check to make sure I have a backup?

if you happen to have an LG phone you can still unlock even after NoDo without previous unlock. Which phone do you have? Here are instructions for LG devices. This works before and after NoDo

The restore will only be available if you updated your phone with Zune software and it will only show on the same PC you used to run the update. If you used another method to update that didn't use the Zune software then you are out of luck, unless you have an LG phone.

I am using the same computer. I updated a friends phone on my computer, but I updated to 7392 a few days later. Someone mentions that Zune saves one backup, but he didn't know if it's one period or one per device.
zune only keeps one last backup. if you connect a different wp7 device to the same zune account it will be handled as guest and it won't let you update (at least here on my PC it didn't with my wife's phone, had to do it on her own zune account).

if you applied the registry key that is around the forums to keep it unlocked for NODO and everything then it is safe, i have it running and unlocked still
hope i helped.. and remember, if anything would go wrong you can allways "restore" with the zune software to a previous version
hope i helped

eh? What are you on about? Why would you lose all your texts from updating? He's not talking about flashing a new ROM, he's talking about updating via Zune

But didnt that happen to people when they updated to Nodo???
Nope. No one lost any text messages by updating to NoDo. People may have lost text messages if, in an attempt to resolve a problem during the update, they chose to hard reset their phone. But that has nothing to do with the update itself.

i mean the registry hack that came up when going to "NODO" update would re-lock your phone. and this would anable you to keep your unlock for further even for this newer update.
i think there is a .xap file now that does it automated. but thats what i did and it worked.. i didn't do the airplane mode for that, i think that was just to fool zune into giving you the update when it wasn't showing up if i remember correctly.
i was busy for a while till i found the right place with the info using the search.
this is the link to the .xap i found in another post http://dl.dbank.com/c0u5q3xic8
No, without a developer unlock, 7392 can't be unlocked. I restored from 7390 to 7008, performed the Chevron unlock, edited the registry to prevent relocking, then updated back to 7390, and the phone remained unlocked. After updating to 7392, the phone retains its unlocked status.

Update will not ruin your phone (Dev Unlocked)
But i found some bugs.
If you let your phone run like 2 days non-stops, daily use, sometime the phone wake up in laggy condition. I mean, everything inside the apps is laggy, not the metro ui. The Metro UI is still smooth, but in people tab, photo tabs, IE... everything is laggy. It forces me to reset the phone.
I don't know if this issue is releated to the reg hack to instant resume apps (for now, maybe Mango will have some kind of new "multi-tasking" that we don't know) .
BTW, just upgrade it.
What do you mean by "edited the registry to prevent relocking?" is it the file where I copy to my windows on my phone??

as i said before, you go and get the .xap file that does the edit for you or you go and look for the registry to edit with a registry editor for your phone
the easiest way to do it is to side load the .xap files that does it for you and then just run it on your phone and you're done.
just get the .xap file i provided from another forum or if you don't trust that then search is your best bet, if you wan't do it manually or do it for you with a .xap
of course if you don't have a registry editor on there allready i would just go for the .xap file that does it for you that i provided on my previous post.
hope you get it this time

Hey, just something quick. I'm running teh Mango beta but i keep hearing about the pros of unlocking your phone. So I wanted to unlock. I recieved this phone without the NoDo update, since it downloaded that when I first used zune.
So can I just click return to factory settings on the phone and then use chevron? then go through all the effort of updating back to mango.
thanks
no u cant..

No ...its not that simple...
Sinse your phone has nodo and its not unlocked you cant use chevron to unlock.
You must first flash a pre-nodo rom (7004 or 7008) unlock with chevron and then update all the way up to mango
Roms for trophy can be found here
is there a way to upgrade from NODO to Mango because im not really sure even after searching around...i had my phone chevron unlocked in pre nodo and upgrade just recently so my phone is nodo and wen i go into chevron is says unlock but can...so if there is a way to go from nodo to mango i would love to know so i can do it..if not i guess ill be waiting till its released
Well, it's really hard to understand your question. If I understood right, your phone is running a ChevronWP7 unlocked WP7 with NoDo installed - is that correct? And now you want to go to Mango (beta) without loosing your jailbreak?

Hum I'm not sure how Chevron Labs works but when I unlocked my phone via Dev unlock, I had to use the Windows Phone Registration that came with Windows Phone Developer's Tools.
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=23854
Have you tried installing all of the Windows Phone 7 Developer tools?
I dont think it really matters, but i have unlocked my phone yestarday with the Chevron method and I have all of the Windows Phone 7 developer tools, latest zune, latest Phone OS.
I have Windows Phone tools...
and the latest update but thanks for a reply
Which version of OS do you have? Check it in Settings->About
Chevron unlock only works if you have the OS version 7004 or 7008. It does not work after NoDo update.

Your phone and PC should have the same date, I think. Try changing the date on your PC too and check.
However, as I said before, Chevron unlock via cert method is known to not work on OS versions later than 7008

Flash it to either stock ROM(Chevron will then work) or to fully unlocked Mango ROM.
