So, you can't Root Leaked 2.2 for Captivate? - Captivate General

I have tried everything... is the official 2.2 able to be rooted? If so, then I will wipe and reload that version into my phone .
ANY WAYS, DO NOT GET OFF TOPIC!
I still want to know if I can Root leaked version of Froyo 2.2 ... there is literally nothing on the web out there that has helped me, so I am starting this.

try this:
open google.com
type in SUPERONECLICK
download from the xda link you get

then you were doing it wrong. i have used superoneclick on 100 different captivates....

I too have tried without sucess...This is as far as I get and hangs....
see attacthment. Not sure what i am doing wrong? Thanks for input anyone has.

try changing the exploit from auto to rageagainstthecage. zerg is a dirty hack.
also, if you would read the last 2 pages of the thread, Superoneclick 2.2 seems to be iffy on root. try 1.9.5
i have been using 1.7 forever

Many Thanks to you for that try it worked perfect!!!! Thanks!!!!

I told you that I tried everything lol! 100 different Captivates with the Real 2.2 is a different story... I seen the real 2.2 and on that version the Mobile AP and the Tethering looks like it is locked or something. They literally are two different types of the same version, but I think the leaked version was "hacked" to make it work on a Captivate. Or, if possible was hacked to give it certain appearances and give it a few extra things too.
I can confirm that the following DO NOT work for Froyo 2.2 Leaked Captivate: Superoneclick v2.1, v2.2, z4root.
If you want to sideload apps from your PC for Froyo 2.2 Leaked Captivate then only AndroidCentral-SWM 1.0 works... weird right? The new one WILL NOT work!

Give some feedback!

Superoneclick 1.7
The only way to root/ Shell Root Samsung Captivate 2.2 Leaked is with Superoneclick 1.7 ONLY! I can confirm that Root worked, Shell Root Worked, Non-Market App Worked.

the OP insists 'leaked' 2.2 is unrootable. based on the fact that so many people have done it, proves him wrong.
by the way, i wouldnt consider kb2 to be a 'leak' since its officially out on newer captivates.

I didn't make this post the say that the Leaked 2.2 was unrootable... I made it so I would get an answer for me and anyone else who got stuck where I was stuck. I was not able to root my phone until you guys told me that 1.7 works ... what I did find out later though is that anyone who used the Leaked version 2.2 screwed themselves. Meaning, you lose your unlock code doing so... sad when I found out . I have a hunch that adding 2.1 to my phone again would fix that though.
But yeah, long story short I made this post so people could Google the answer I was looking for.... "you can't Root Leaked 2.2 for Captivate?" ( Google This)

...tried Kies Mini at 11:03am EST and it was working. I've been messing with the phone for the last half hour now and have found that I am pretty happy with the e-mail updates, browser updates, and the fact that the update didn't remove any of the data from my phone that I can tell. I just have to re-organize my home screen and get my icons and widgets the way I like them.

Ask your friend to download Kies Mini software from Samsung support site. Then he connects the phone to it and it will automatically upgrade. ROM image files (which are already leaks a few days ago) are useless to you unless you want to use ODIN tools.

No, bone stock. The Kies Mini was also updated on my machine a few days ago, on the 19th, I think.
As for the update, it went smooth. I cannot find anywhere the update file is on my host machine, as if it used the phone's memory to store it as it downloaded it.
It appears that Samsung was listening to some of the wish list stuff. I almost forgot to check to see if copy/paste was active in Exchange or not, as well as the browser. There is a MUCH improved copy/paste in the web browser, but no copy or text selection in the e-mail prog.
.
Great, I can't wait to try this out at home. Does anyone that has updated to the 2.2 use HeyTell? If so, can you verify if it is working correctly?

This thread should probably be merged with the main upgrade thread here, but...
For me, I never bothered to mess with the Captivate. First and foremost, I didn't want to void my warranty. Otherwise, it was just because I didn't feel like messing with it. I have three phones, one of which never has a SIM in it (Captivate). I use mine as a tablet more than anything else. Well, a really small tablet
I'm biding my time until I either get the Infuse or a tablet of some sort. Until then, I don't feel like messing with it. Had the update not worked as quickly and smoothly as it did, I wouldn't have bothered.
.
Please post anything about the 2.2 update in the already opened thread.

You can take it to a store tech center and have them reflash your phone with it if mini kies isn't working.

Bottom line: Our developers and users have moved to Rootzwiki. Its still the same users and developers that were once here; same usernames and everything. Everyone's there. Just a new location (and new management).
Whats done is done; the mass exodus has occurred and it can't be changed. So lets quit talking about it. Get on the Rootzwiki boat or stay in ghost town. Your choice.

No kies on my Samsung N150 Plus netbook, just installed USCC_I500_EH09_SimpleDL from the US Cellular android upgrade section. Followed instructions (except for battery life, performed this with 81%) phone rebooted, all apps intact including acircuitboard live wallpaper, root apps, contacts, calender, etc...., EXCEPT ROOT ACCESS! Super User gone baby, verified with root check app. guess I'll give GingerBreak a try this weekend, heck I may even try SuperOneClick again to see what happens. Here's a trick for you warranty voider freaker outers, if you brick it, just tell your provider you lost the phone and pay the $50 or whatever dollar insurance claim and get a new GXS.
Obviously no root access, it's a stock official rom.

[Q] Tips for a new Shift buyer?

I am looking to get a new phone this weekend, and I'm leaning toward the Shift. Any advice for a new owner? I saw a thread that there is an OTA Gingerbread update, but that there is only "temp root" (not familiar with that - I guess maybe root that only lasts until you reboot??). Should I try to get them not to update my phone in the store so that I'm still on FroYo? Anything else I should know as a prospective Shift owner?
Yes temp root will only last till you reboot. Then you have to do it all over again . As to where to go to get your Shift, try to go to a place that doesn't sell a lot of them. That way you have a better chance of getting one that is on Froyo. Also make sure you have them power it up, and check for yourself that it reallly is 2.2 ( Froyo ) . Then tell them not to update it. If whatever place you choose says they have to update it, just say no thanks. They do not have to. The places so far that I've seen that you have a better chance are Wallmart, Target, Costco, and Sams Club. Hope that helps .
Well, unfortunately, I'll be going to Best Buy, since they have it for free with upgrade right now. Is the temp root complicated and involved?

I assume your talking about GB Temp Root. Haven't had occasion to try the Temp Root method for 2.3 yet. But you can try this thread.
It's not just that with 2.3 you'll only have temp root and have to reroot upon reboot. You also won't be able to flash any custom ROMs.
^ Shift Faced
Don't buy it unless it has 2.2.
what version of sense does the new 2.3 ROM have on the shift?

Stock 2.3 has Sense 2.1 out the box. If your using one of the custom Sense Gingerbread ROMs, most of them are Sense 2.1 with some Sense 3.0 aspects.

I don't see what was confusing about what that guy wrote. He suggested that I go to Radio Shack so I could get a Shift with 2.2, and if I wanted, I could get full root on it. The confusion comes in where he says he took the ota and will wait for it to be rooted. There's absolutely no advantage to rooting Gingerbread over froyo. There are stock rooted ROMs that if flashed would be exactly like running a rooted stock Gingerbread. He's free to do whatever he wants, just seems pointless to me.

Its been available for I think over 2 months now. ATT just sucks. But yes, there is an official GB update but that update has been on the forums as an unofficial release (KK4) for a long while. I highly recommend the update and then I recommend immedaitely flashing a custom rom as the stock update isnt much of an improvement upon 2.2 Froyo.

Has anyone tried this ROM for a decent amount of time yet? I'm just curious for stability purposes. I'm having decent luck with ICS, but until things smooth out a little, I'm contemplating just switching to something stable. I have no idea if this meets that description though
Yep. Have it rooted with corn kernel and its smooth and fast enough for me.

Has anyone tried this ROM for a decent amount of time yet? I'm just curious for stability purposes. I'm having decent luck with ICS, but until things smooth out a little, I'm contemplating just switching to something stable. I have no idea if this meets that description though

The "official" upgrade is the KK4 build that leaked about 3 months ago. They're exactly the same. So if you've tried the stock KK4 or any KK4-based custom ROM then you've experienced it.
I'm running a KK4-based ROM. It's reasonably stable; however, it's much smoother and (for me) more stable if you flash the most recent Corn kernel (7.06) on top of it.

I downloaded and finally got GB installed last night. However, I tried to root with super one click but it stops on step 7. Sounds like a lot of people have had this issue. How are you rooting? I'm pretty noob with this stuff, so I'd prefer something like one click rather than odin.

It's not that I didn't search (in fact I already discovered the thread you linked to), it's that we're looking for a one-click method rather than using odin. Are there any solutions for the problems we're having with Super One Click? Or perhaps another one-click solution that we're not familiar with?
There are two threads in this forum just below this one that provide all the info and files you need. Take a look. Worked for me ( and thanks to OPs for that). Flash gb, then a kernel that gives you root. I tried a few, like corn 7x best. Were not any one clicks out there for gb root a month ago, may not be yet.
Try this:

I am running the Fasty2.5 ROM. I would like to update to the stock kk4 version and then flash the Fasty kk4 version after. Should i flash to froyo stock before i attempt to install the stock GB update or will the ATT update wipe the phone for me?

Download the kernel file directly to your phone, use an app from market to flash it, no odin. Try SGS.

There are no one click methods that I know of. You really should learn to use Odin. Its not hard at all and opens alot of doors as to what you can do with your phones. I mean, its laid out step by step in that thread. Just follow instructions. I imagine we all can do that.
Thanks for all the info guys. I followed the instructions from the link below and everything went smoothly. Thanks again for all the input.
