Hello
One thing that I don't like about typing someone in skype for instance is that every sentence starts with capital letter. Is there any way to disable that? When i type thru my phone it's too obvious because every new sentence is with capital letter and my style of typing is with only small letters.
Thanks in advance!
Settings -> Keyboard -> Auto-capitalize first letter.
No such menu. I have Settings -> Language & keyboard -> Select language | touch input and when i click touch input got hardware keyboard settings and personal directory. On hardware keyboard settings there's only prediction submenu.
Hmm, seems to be in the custom roms only.. Have you also checked skype settings?
I'm actually using imo but nothing for this in the settings

I have deselected it under settings / input. But it still tries to fill in bloody words for me when i am using a keyboard with all the keys i need! What the hell is it trying to do? I find it physically impossible to type anything without it constantly putting in random words!!! AHHH!!!!
Ok. I'm ok. Any ideas?
Haha no clue, but it does get annoying. I'll keep an eye on this thread and look through the user manual to see if I find anything.
Open the on-screen keyboard, tap the little arrow next to it then select "Touch Input Settings"
Clear the tick for Spell Correction and your problem should be solved
I've just been pressing FN + Space, and choosing "ABC" from the menu.

Thanks! Perfect.
I've checked the box to turn on predictive, but doesn't work? Any ideas?
First, go into the messaging app and open a text conversation without sliding the keyboard out. Then long-press the text input box and choose "touch" instead of swype. Then exit out of that, go into settings > languages and keyboard > and the touch input option needs to read "standard." Also go into one of the other screens and turn on text prediction and spell check (if you want) for QWERTY keyboard.
Now go back into the text messaging screen and it should work.
I don't want to tell you how long it took me to get it to work. It's nice of them to tell me that when the keyboard is slid out certain menu options aren't available that you need to access in order to turn on certain features for said keyboard...
I don't have the option for auto-correct on the hardware keyboard.

unnclespoon, you rock!
@unclespoon, thanks a MILLION. This answered a lot of questions for me. I was going round and round in all the menus trying to find auto-correct. Lame that you actually have to enable this menus from an actual message.

The only reason you need to open a message is to be able to switch from "Swype" to "Touch Input". You can do this on ANY text entry field, though.
For the auto-correct and prediction options, you can go (from the Home screen) Menu, Settings, Language and Keyboard, Touch Input, Hardware Keyboard Settings, then tick the box to enable Prediction.
Edit: Note that you HAVE to have "Touch Input" enabled instead of Swype for the touch-screen software keyboard, or prediction won't work on the hardware qwerty, even with "Prediction" enabled in the menus.
Hi all
I have been setting up my phone since hard resetting it.
I am sure before reset it i had the google voiceicon highlighted on the bottom left of the keyboard. Now that key has EN highlighted on it and it takes a long press to activate the voice app

How to apply PC layout?

Instead of hijacking the original thread the above question came from, I'll put the instructions in this new one.
The Android keyboard (AOSP) (and the Google Keyboard, I believe) is capable of having a numbers row and being set up to resemble a traditional PC keyboard. For those who are unfamiliar with how to set it up, here's how:
Go to Settings > PERSONAL > Language & Input
Press the settings button to the right of 'Android keyboard (AOSP).'
In 'Android keyboard settings,' scroll all the way down and press 'Advanced settings.'
In 'Advanced settings,' press 'Custom input styles.'
In 'Android keyboard settings,' press the 'ADD STYLE' button on the upper-right corner of the screen.
Choose your Language. Then choose 'PC' for the Layout. Press the 'Add' button when done.
Return to the 'Android keyboard settings' page in step 3. Press 'Input languages.'
In 'Input languages,' deselect 'Use system language' and any other default 'ACTIVE INPUT METHODS.' Select the method that corresponds to the language you previously chose that is followed by '(PC).'
Back out of Settings, and enjoy your PC layout keyboard.
Hope this helps.
Very nice guide, cheers, I was wondering how to get the number keys to show :good:
EDIT - Not a biggy, but it doesn't seem to have changed to UK layout even after following the guide perfectly, the @ symbol is above the 2 and the " symbol is above the right shift key, that is the US keyboard layout, the UK layout is reversed
Like I say, not a big deal, just wondering why it didn't set UK up even though I have it selected

This looks like an oversight/bug by Google:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=37166
If you want to try another keyboard with a PC layout, how about Hacker's Keyboard:
http://code.google.com/p/hackerskeyboard/
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.pocketworkstation.pckeyboard&hl=en
It claims to support 'English/British (en_GB),' and it even includes arrow keys.
I installed the KitKat Google keyboard, but it looked like the PC keyboard has been removed as an option. Can anyone confirm this; or better yet, suggest a workaround?
Hey,
does anyone know how to disable the seperate key on the lollipop keyboard if you have more than one input language enabled? It used to be possible to disable it from keyboard settings, but i can not find that option anymore. But you can still switch languages with the space key, so it only takes up space.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Anybody? I was looking for an answer to this too and ended up here. There's literally 3 ways to do this directly from the keyboard in L. There's the language switch button next to the space bar, the new soft key on the bottom right next to the multi tasking button, and there's long pressing the space bar itself. I'm all for some redundancy, but this is just wasteful and space consuming.
At the very least, bring the option back from kitkat to turn off the language switch key to the left of the space bar. I'd love that space freed up again.
I would really like to know as well, SwiftKey is lagging terribly so I am using Goggle keyboard for now, but holy crap that language switch button is annoying! I keep pressing it instead of comma because I need both English and danish when i type
Looking around but nothing found I was thinking to move to another keyb waitnig for an update.
Thats's very 'idiot' to propose three ways then also the switch by the space is easy to press by mistake
The added key by the multitaks is great
This is very annoying for me when using swiftkey. I accidently always swipe over this keyboard button. It would be really helpful to disable this button as it was in kitkat.

+1
Google please fix this
Im having the same annoying issue
I have a moto g and Im agree is stupid have 3 ways to change languages
I too ended up here while looking for ways to disable the annoying language switch button. I could understand its function if we didn't have the long-press option of the space bar to switch languages, but it's ridiculous to not have an option to hide the button.
So... Still no solution?
Maybe if someone is able to decompile the google keyboard.apk and disable it from there, I don't know. It's very funny that Google developers doesn't use 1+ languages in their tests, otherwise they'll know.
Language & input -> Current keyboard -> Choose Keyboards -> Turn off any enabled keyboards (you will not be able to disable Google Keyboard)

Not sure what you mean. We are talking about Google keyboard with multiple languages enabled because we want to use more than 1 language.
When you have multiple languages enabled, the "Switch keyboard" icon appears.
Your solution doesn't work, the language switched button still appears on the keyboard.
I had this same problem when i had the A.I. Type keyboard installed and the issue disappeared entirely when I uninstalled it.
