I don't think so. I don't know how to do any of this stuff lol. I need someone to walk me thru with it all.all I know is I downloaded something on my computer the other day and now it says my phone is unlocked.
The file you named is a ROM for rooted users.

OK that worked. I'm rooted now. I'm redownloading ice dirty alpha 3.6. That's the most recent right?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Correct.
Download it and put into onto the phone. Then post back here and I'll help you install it.
Do I just drag and drop onto the SD card. Or do I put it in a particular folder. Like the root folder
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Nope. Just the sdcard part. Not "system" or anything.
Alright I think.I got it from here. So all I do after this is done is power off and press volume up and power then recovery and install from zip or whatever. Right?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Wipe first just in case then yes, install from zip and choose the file.
If I wipe wouldn't It remove the file I just put?

Remove (or rename) the PD98IMG.ZIP from your SDCARD. It's finding that and trying to install it.

That's fine. It won't mess anything up. It just needs to NOT see PD98IMG.zip, however you want to go about it...rename, move, delete. The result is the same.

Not to insult your intelligence, but are you sure you have cwr flashed? Perhaps try reflashing it?
I've never uninstalled ROM manager, so I don't know how that affects cwr, whether the stock recovery gets put back on or not, but Rom manager, with a working cwr, should at least get you where you want to go.

1: Download sgs kernel flasher
2: Download CWM community kernel
3: Flash kernel via sgs kernel flasher "unchecked the reboot button" when done flashing turn phone of "SHUTDOWN"
4: 3 finger until the Samsung logo pops up keep holding the buttons the screen will go black then Samsung logo will come up, let go of the power button and keep hold the volume up and down buttons "For about 20 seconds" then let go it should boot into Red CWM after a few seconds.
5: Go to install zip from SD card go all the way down and run update.zip it will boot back into RED CWM run update.zip again and it should now boot into GREEN CWM
6: From here Re-Flash MIUI "New Release would be smart", Wipe Fact,Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik, Flash, reboot at sign of Samsung logo pull battery, 3 finger into blue recovery and flash again.
7: Presto you should be set and have recovery back.

Everybody needs to read we have answered this same question over 20 times in the last week lol.. Do not use the downloadable super user app. When you flash miui there's a tools folder in that there's a super user app, click on it got menu button on bottom of phone, click turn root on. NOW YOU HAVE ROOT. Second follow my instructions to get recovery back there on the first page of Jordan's post and also posted in this thread. If anyone who is having these problems is reading this please research and check threads before over posting questions. Thanks

At least in my case, I agree something is not right with rooting after I updated to MIUI-Infuse-1.10.14. The superuser app is different then last week's (1.10.7) and no apps show up in the approved list.
I reloaded last week's MIUI-Infuse-1.10.7 and the apps show up in the MIUI list but some apps work ok...others don't. Went back to 1.10.14, same problem.
I think I'll wait till this week's update and then start trying some of the solutions already posted. yeha!!
Thank you cajun that's what I thought I would have to do, just thought someone would have an easier solution before I went thru the pain of reverting back to stock... the thing is everything was great with all the other updates until I updated to 1.10. 14. Then everything went bye bye.. lol.. thanks for the help everyone you guys are really great and helpful.

I make a habit to clear it every time I flash something new. After you flash, you can wipe it in the Advanced menu in CWM. When your phone reboots, be sure to not touch ANYTHING and let it sit for 10-15 minutes to let it rebuild. If you don't, your phone will lag.
If you didn't give sufficient time for your phone to rebuild the dalvik cache, you can always go into the Advanced menu in CWM and wipe it again. You'll just have to wait the 10-15 minutes again.

After you flash recovery, you should boot into it. Then flash a ROM. If you leave it stock, there is a script that flashes stock recovery every boot, so you lose cwm.
There is a way to disable that script if you want to remain stock, but i can't remember where i saw the instructions for that.

So am I not actually rooted then? Super user is still empty and titanium backup is still failing to get root??
I tried this below but it wouldn't let me change the name?? I used astro, solid explorer and ES file. If I have root shouldn't I be able to do this?
"Note: There is a script in your phone that will remove ClockworkMod recovery when you reboot. In order to stop this from happening, download a root explorer from the Market (ES File Explorer, Root Explorer, File Expert). Use it to navigate to /system/etc/ on your phone. Find a file named “install-recovery.sh” and rename to to something like “install-recovery.sh.bak”. This will render it disabled and will make sure you keep your custom recovery."

Factory images from Google don't have the install-recovery.sh file. Only if you get OTA you will have that file.

I have the app, the problem is that when I try to Install OpenRecoveryScript, it has to download a recovery image which I tried, but it just says the download failed because of the SD card.

Drop that file where your fastboot file is located and go into your bootloader and type "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-Ville.img" then "fastboot reboot-bootloader" then go into your recovery and try reflashing the Rom. Twrp is far better then clockworks.
