T-Mobile Galaxy S 4G Gets Gingerbread Update.....So can it be rooted yet ? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Has anybody tried using SuperOneClick v2.2 with the new T-Mobile Galaxy S4G update (2.3.6) ? If so, did it work ? Did it brick your device or what ?

Others have reported it working, but in my opinion you are better off flashing one of drhonks kernels over the update, so that you'll have root and clockwork. This is being discussed in the development section, check it out.

KJ1 should do the job just fine. SuperOnClick should be fine also if all you want is root.
You. Will. Obey. XDA Premium

SOC 2.2 works fine.

If you really want to stick to KJ6 kernel, I say use SOC 2.2. First time it will hang, but second time it will root. Or wait for dr.honk KJ6 modded kernel since there is not one yet.

Seems like my captivate has alot of lag even this I have the one click lag fix. Any suggestions? Thanks

oclf is not needed. If you are running onix or speedmod you just have to go into clock work mod recovery and enable lag fix and battery mod and bam! Thats it! Look in development for more info on this.

Can I install this kernel through rom manager?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
You have a few options. You can install a rom with the kernel already added which to me is the easiest way. Just follow the instructions on the roms page. You could also place the kernel on the root of your sd and and use something like sgs kernel flasher from the market. It allows you to pick your kernel and flash it.
Look under development stickies and look for how to install a custom rom. It explains it better than I have. Also, backup all data and apps. Use titanium backup and look up how to do a nandroid backup before flashing.

I would suggest to stop using ROM Manager, as it sometimes causes issues with 2.2 and later ROMs.

no... rom manager causes problems with kernels that already have CWM built into the kernels (like all of the customs)
rom manager uses the update.zip method for cwm. which causes problems when cwm is already in the kernel.....
Newbie Question.

What else have you done to your phone besides the purpleliscious or was this rom enough to get you to 2600???
And how is your battery life???
Thank you!

Which firmware do I download to go back to 2.2.1?

Hey guys,
GPS Isn't working, and I need LBSTestMode, since I don't have it right now after upgrading to 2.3.4.
Where or which firmware do I download from here:
http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm
or wherever else that is 2.2.1 and will work on the Galaxy S 4G.
I'm in Canada on the Bell network.
Thanks!
Check out the bible in the dev section. It has links to every rom we have for the sgs4g. There are odin versions and cwm. If your looking for it you can, most likely find it there.

Well it doesn't have 2.2.1
I'm looking for the official Stock Firmware which I'm just going to root later on.
Isn't kd1 2.2.1? Or flash kb5 then use mini kies to update it to stock

Both are located in the general forum.
I read that. Its too complicated for me. AHahaha. Thats why im asking for a stepbystep. :/. i search before i post

Are you serious?!
Use the huge knowledge base xda forums provide! It's not too complex how overclocking works. I think you are too lazy to get on it.
I don't want to be mean, but if you think that's hard to handle with than I recommend to let your hands away from this kind of stuff.

The only thing i know how to do is flashing via odin. Lols and that took me a month to learn. Ahahhaa im just a really slow learner.

What do you do on your phone that would require overclocking anyway?

I think those are as simple as the guides get to flashing and overclocking. If they're too complicated, then maybe you should consider not making any mods to your phone until you've read enough and feel confident.
The thing is, on tegrak overclock, when i change the level 0 to 1500/1400/1175, it closes and says testing stability. Then when i open tegrak again, nothing changes...
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
You shouldn't really be making the jump from 1000 to 1500 right away as it is. Should be easing your way up. However as long as the phone vibrates and it says checking stability, then it's working.
I definitely agree with FBis251 here. You really don't need anything to be OC'd on this phone. If you don't understand how to OC, you should probably avoid it. However, If you're THAT eager to OC, just gradually bump up the GHz to whichever amount you want.
As for CWM, you'll definitely have to learn how to use it. Here's as simple as it can be said. I'm assuming you know how to get CWM properly, since your OP asks about CWM flashing.
1) Put the ROM you wish to flash in your SD card
2) Boot into CWM
3) Check mounts (UMMU) if you're on orange CWM; you don't need to check it if you're on red CWM
4) Select the ROM you wish to flash
Remember that not all ROMs have the same flashing instructions. While it's okay to be a slow learner, it's not okay to not read carefully here. Please read carefully and try not to clutter the forum with "OMG, I BRICKED" threads. There seems to be more and more these days.
Honestly, if you have trouble understanding these guides, you might want to just stick with whatever you have. Flashing is usually more difficult than just what I mentioned up there. Btw, if you didn't understand how to use CWM, how did you even get KH2 Deodexed?
Sorry if this post made me sound mean, but I just wanted to make it clear for you.
Im on Kf2. not kh2. ahahhaha. And that one was via odin. I wanna learn how to cwm flash so i can use the kh1 or 2. . thanks for the posts guys. Although i dont get it, im constantly reading it over and over again ahahaha.

Looked up a different way. So, i plan on flashing bali kernel 3.3 via CWM. Will it work on my current build?

Edit again. Sorry for the spam. But when I flashed kh1 or kh2 via cwm, I got bootloop ((( currently on kf2 deodexed rooted stock gingerbread. Downloaded bali kernel 3.3 then attempted to flash. Flashed successfully then got caught in bootloop help anyone?

As far as I remember, and I may be wrong at this point, but you can't use flash Bali 3.3 on KH1 or KH2. If you want to flash to KH1 or KH2, then I'd suggest following the steps in this thread.

Rooting?

running 2.3.3 Gingerbread and im trying to root with superclick but i cant dosent let me stays on waiting for device can anyone help
I have a similar problem; but it freezes on step 6 instead
You can get root by simple flashing Dr honk's kg4 kernel via Odin.
Hope this helps!

go to the development section and read up happy flashing.
Random question, why do you have 2.3.3, Kf1 and 2 were the most unstable roms ever built for the gs4g. You need to use kh2. Kh2 is 2.3.4.

Noobs what can u say I'm one too takes trial n err....most imporatant lesson I've learn is not to try to cwm anything away from my screenless laptop that's basically a desktop now. Atleast till you know what ur doin....almost to that point now heh.

Sorry could not find anything stating HDMI will work.
I'm new to this just have Infuse with 2.3.6 leaked rom.
As soon as att puts out gingerbread on the infuse we'll most likely get the hdmi support back but as far as i know only froyo rom has the hdmi support for it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
Leaked 2.3.6 UCKJ4 and UCKJ2 HDMI works like a charm, but lacks the customization I would like from custom ROM. I use HDMI often with Netflix. Therefore I was thinking if the UCKJ2 Kernel can be flashed to this rom and see if HDMI will then work.
Ukj2......that's only a modem i don't think that would fix the hdmi.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
I downloaded it from one JordanElliott threads. Don't rememeber where but have it.
ATT_Leak_UCKJ2_Stock_Kernel. I followed instructions for rooting by ODIN flashing Infused_Gingerbread _Kernel_V1, then using SGS Kernel Flasher to Flash ATT_Leak_UCKJ2_Stock_Kernel. When you flash the leaked AT&T 2.3.6 J2 or J4 roms thru ODIN you loose the ROOT and the only way to regain it is by flashing rooted gingerbread kernel.
