Amazon Launcher Icon Resolution - Kindle Fire Themes and Apps

Does anybody else have an issue where some apps that are sideloaded or Market installed show up at a very low resolution in the carousel? Any way to fix this?

I had this issue too. It looks very ugly, which is why I installed a third party launcher.

I love the Amazon launcher though, so simple and clean. If anyone knows of a way to change icon resolutions (?) I'd love to know. I tried but it resulted in icons that looked nice but only displayed half of the icon

you can't fix it. The apps themselves would have to have been released with hi res icons in the apk. Most of these apps were made for lower phone resolutions. The carousel shows very large sized icons, so if the app doesn't have them, it's going to use the smaller ones and scale them up.

Right, but we could edit our apps and add a higher res icon right? Would be tedious but I'd almost rather do that for now for some of the apps I know I'll have for a while (barring updates that would reset the icons).

It's simple...
Apps from the amazon market require a higher res icon. Notice this issue is only with side loaded apps that didn't come from amazon.

I don't want to sound like a jerk but what is the point of saying this? That should be obvious from the OP.

Lol, no worries. I was merely re-stating to the OP that he already knows why the icons look blurry. It sounded like he was asking why, yet he already knew why.
*edit* re-read the OP and he did ask how to fix it. The only answer is to repackage the app with a fixed icon. We may just have to wait for devs to submit their apps to the AMZ market.

Right. I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to edit them or adjust to fix this issue, I guess not though judging on the replies this thread has seen today.

Yeah im thinking the bulk of the modders / rom cookers are going with the nook color.

Yes.

Yes, you can. You might first do a little android App development reading to understand the multiple size Icon rules.

I'd be interested too, can you point me somewhere to get the info to change the icons resolution, please ?
I've downloaded that program, unpacked an .apk, but now?

Modding an apk is a bit more than can be covered with a simple post. Probably digging through the forums would be a good bet.
I thought I read somewhere that Amazon apps download a special-sized icon for the carousel, but I'm not sure (could be an internet rumor, like Eddie Murphy dying). Some of the apps I have sideloaded have hi res icons, but they still look like garbage on the carousel. Maybe when I get a moment or two I can pull an apk and see if there is something special going on with the icons. I haven't done this yet cause they are not too annoying to me.
---------- Post added at 06:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:52 PM ----------
According to this site, https://developer.amazon.com/help/faq.html the Amazon apps have hi-res icons supplied through their servers; side-loaded apps cannot do this.

StarfieldModded LiveWallpaper

it works, but not perfectly. The background needs to be made tileable.
Things I had to do
1) uninstall the old apk.
adb uninstall -d com.kalicinscy.wallpaper.starfield
2) sign and then install this one.
adb install -r StarfieldLeopard.apk
3) enable "Background" in LWP settings.
Screenshot and apk attached.
edit: removed attachments.
thanks got it, when i have that working i will let you know. in the mean time can you check what happens if you put the full wallpaper in the assests/texture folder? maybe the width measurements i made on the first one was not adequate. Unless the exact measurements are coded in followed by making the image tilable. If that is the case, i will put some effort in to making a tilable version of the wall.
It might get really slow though!
the file has to be renamed to starfield_04.png
I used the gimp's filters->map->make seamless tool and it helped a lot.
Its not perfect. Added a bluish version too.
edit: removed attachments.
thats awesome mate, i am a newbie here but already feeling good that senior guys are helping us out! You think you can recode the black stars to white though?
One final request bro,
>here<
is the final image i made using your gimp concept, it worked out well with a slight touch from ps cs4 , could you use this and attach the final apk for me.
Thanks
Below is a new colored icon aswell for the new starfieldlep edition!
All Done! ^Check the first post!! ^
can I check the source for problems?
really cool, i like this new bg than the original.
question, why are some star streaks black instead of white?
Are you finished working on this apk? I mean wallpaper.. The pictures are absolutely stunning. I dont have a N1 yet (42 more days till I do) and I could see this being a full-time wallpaper when I do get one.
I like this Live Wallpaper, but sometimes the app is closed with an error
is there any way that i can get the source so that i can work on errors in it?
Sorry guys for the late reply, but thanks, @samir5421 i downloaded the apk by googling as i have not rooted the n1, if you have a rooted version i am sure you can download the updated apk (starfield) from the market and fix the errors :S
I think the version I have downloaded was a pretty old build compared to the one that is up on the market right now. I am attaching the files I made changes to aswell as the original apk.
@cdmove, I am not actually any good with this, I am just a graphics designer and so i wish someone could get into the guts of this and change the black streaks to white as I have no knowledge on how to edit android resources yet.

yup and also the stars start of as black [blending into the original bg(b/w)], and move to white, which actually makes sense as or else there would be too many white dots on the screen popping up at the same time, but if its possible to change the gradient from black to white to white to white we could judge it for ourselves.
any fix yet on the fc's? i really like how this looks!
stars with background really slow. maybe you can change the star's background color instead of use an image.

[MOD] Semi-Transparent App Drawer / Shortcuts Background

This is another change I ended up with by accident, when working on the text-less icons for the app drawer. This is based off of Fresh 2.1.2, but should work with any Sprint based 2.1 ROM.
I originally discarded it, but thought it might be cool to, in addition to changing the color of the app drawer & add shortcuts background from solid black to some other color (gray in this mod), to also make the background semi-transparent, so that your wallpaper shows through, and this is the end product.

I like it because it is different - what Roms will it run on?
This should work on most Sprint-based ROMs.
It is really starting to grow on me. Here's an example using a photo type wallpaper background where you get a better sense for the "transparent factor".
It is something, I think, that looks better in real-life, as opposed to screen captures. I'll probably post a MetaMorph tomorrow.

It's right under your nose. Check the link in my sig, lol.
First post has been updated with MetaMorph control files for applying this change.
It has really grown on me and I am liking it very much. It is not too dissimilar to the semi-transparent notification menu we've grown accustomed to. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.
As mentioned above, I think it looks really nice when you have a photo style wallpaper.
Added this Mod!!! I have been looking for a transparent app background for a while. You also went the extra distance and did the same thing to the shortcuts background. Just wanted to say thank you for this and it worked for fresh 2.0d. The only thing that I had to do is re-add all the widgets on my screen after the update. Thanks man keep the updates coming!

[Themes] LauncherPro Dock Themes

So it seems XDA was in need of a LauncherPro Dock Theme thread. Feel free to post any dock themes you have so that we may admire your work!
LauncherPro FTW!
edit: For anyone that is not aware, there is a very extensive list of these Dock Themes over at LauncherPro.com. Here is the link.

But by all means, share here if you like.
Instructions on applying dock theme (must have LauncherPro):
1. save image from thread
2. hit menu key on phone
3. click preferences
4. click Appearance settings
5. dock background-choose custom
6. choose which background. you are all set!
yeah you can change icons in the dock and the background also......it's been like that for a while.

[APP Widget]Cowon D3 Clock

rsmartin said:
Hello,
I have pushed a code update to github, the features appear to have been rather painless which is always nice.
I have added a colour picker for custom colour choices.
I ended up using https://github.com/attenzione/androi...ckerPreference which is an incredible, well put together little colour picker.
I added the ability to launch the clock app from the widget. This will attempt to open the clock if it can find one. Because some custom roms run custom clock apps and there is no published intent this might not work on your rom. If it fails to launch your specific clock please let me know the details.
I added the option to lowercase all the text similar to gomorrah's blue mod
I should have fixed the 12 hour 00 bug aswell!!
I did test it on a few devices so hopefully it works fine but if there are any problems please let me know.
The plan is to put it on the market, for free, in the next few days when I get a chance.

as soon as it comes out, you'll have it. But until then I'll try to make a clock look the same, but it'll be hard seen as the numbers overlap.
P.S the stock theme for this mp3 player looks alot like the homescreens people show of in the 'post your homescreen' thread
EDIT: I knew it would be hard but it's turning out seemingly implausible for me, I can't get the numbers to overlap with the transparency.
Sorry, you'll have to get a real dev on this.
I hope you'll get to do this clock.
good luck
Looks really nice- would also be interested....
look, maybe this is a little substitute until somebody develops this clock for android...
you can set two minimalistic text widgets one upon the other and let them overlap.

no- there's no clock like this so far- thats the reason for this thread.
The only alternative is a copy build with minimalistic text widget or make your clock widget. I got a quite good copy with the last one but unfortunately just very small...
This clock has letters the size of 200 pt- the max size of the make your clock widget letters is 72 pt...

Beautiful Widgets skins are distorted, scaled wrong, or missing images

I'm hoping this is just an issue with Mahdi rom, and considering i went through 50 reviews of beautiful widgets on the play store from the N5 and i didn't see a single complaint about this.
Every single skin i download for beautiful widgets is displayed wrong. all of the background images are either distorted, scaled wrong so you can't see them, or flat out missing. I've confirmed it on over 50 skins.
As far as i can tell it does not seem to be an issue with the app even though i've uninstalled/reinstalled 3 times, but looking at reviews i see no complaints of this. I also have no issues on my N4 or N7. So my only last idea is that it's something wrong with my N5, my Rom, or something i can't think of yet. Looking for any help and ideas here. Going to try flashing a new rom later but i wanted to post hoping maybe someone has experienced this before and knows what to do as i'd like to stick with my current rom if i can.

Have you got a screenshot?
for me the only issue I have is the top and right of each skin is "cut off" however, I have worked around this by changing to "full icon"

here ya go. first pic is the skin in the store and what it is suppose to look like and then what it actually looks like on my phone. The stock default clock works but nothing else.

uploaded to imgur to get full quality. As you can see both the clock background and full backgroud have been stretched out all the way instead of how they should actually look
I only use weather so its probably a bad comparison.
I honestly cant see what's wrong though...

Not sure how you can't, the first image, shows what the skin is suppose to look like, the second image shows it displayed. Everything is being scaled out to the edges instead of sitting there normally.
This isn't the skin i use just an example to show it. Other skins go solid white or are missing pieces, most just do this, all of the details are pushed out to the very edges. I mean, just look at it, it's obviously not the same and the first image is what it's suppose to look like.
The only difference I can see is that one has rounded edges and one square. I can't see any "over scaling" and because they'll be patch9 images, I wouldnt expect to :/
Edit > oh and the sun is higher.
Think I'll let someone else help as I cant see an issue
All you have to do is look at the background of the time images, on the home screen the 3 pages are pushed all the way out to the edge, on the sample they are layered.
hopefully this will explain it, i honestly don't know what i can say beyond this.

Mine is scaled well on stock as far as i can see. Might be a rom problem.
PS: send a mail to the BW dev to explain the problem and attach screenshots, he is the one that can fix the issue

I finally did manage to find their support but considering i looked through over 2 dozen reviews specifically from N5 owners and haven't seen a single complaint i'm assuming this is on MY end and nothing to do with the app itself. i just have no possible idea what could be wrong from my end.
Same problem
I am having the same problem I bought and now everything is distorted. I am on stock rom nexus 4 I tried all kind of launcher, stock, nova, apex, next launcher but nothing helps. Also i tried difftent desktop grid mesh 4x4 4x5 5x4 an so on but still the same distorted image. Hd widgets works fine but beautiful widgets just won't
