Everyday im finding out maybe samsung didnt do too bad on this phone.. i have a vibrant and swore to never get another samsung phone.. but im ordering this next week i hated the button layout cause in portrait hitting home at the top is kinda funky but with the holding back button feature im feeling okay about this phone. Thanks a ton

Ya that was my one thing I didn't like. But once I figured out the back button I don't have any problems with the phone at the moment. Samsung did a really nice job on this phone

Holding down Home will open the notification panel (good I guess if you are using apps in full screen?)
Make sure you set up your jump shortcuts! They are awesome to have
Something I missed at first: There is a small arrow on the right side of the universal composer in the notification panel (where you'd update your twitter/fb) -- if you click the arrw, you'll get toggles for wifi, bluetooth, gps, silent, and auto rotation.

Jump + R opens up the Jump menu screen for me because "R" isn't a previously assigned shortcut.... ?

Thats what I am saying, I dont have anything assigned to it, so it doesn't do anything. You made it sound like it was going to do something hidden!
Since you don't get my humor, and obvioulsy haven't tried it yourself, I'll spell it out for you... there is NO JUMP + R. They forgot the 'R' in the jump menu list. I guess you can say it IS hidden.

LMAO, sorry. Too much vodka? Too little sleep? I'm just like "seriously it wont do anything until I actually assign it, geez!"
But you're right - how weird. I wonder if they did that intentionally?!
Hope I'm not ruining a joke or anything, but when I hit Jump + R, my phone reboots. And I definitely didn't set it up to do that.
More specifically, it vibrates, then does 2 quick vibrations after a moment, and then after a few more seconds reboots.
I have a similar problem but mines not with JUMP +R it just randomly does the vibrate and reboot thing.
Haven't set jump keys yet. But just found the toggle switches on the notification bar. Haven't found ay other "hidden" features yet.

sweet. thanks man. i will check that when i get back on it.
not sure if this is a samsung deal or a sk thing but i love the fact you can change the font using settings-display-font style. cool jazz is pretty sweet.
I've had mine for nearly a week. I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep it and finally ditch the Grand Old HD2. I've managed to get many of my questions about this phone answered here over the last few days, but here are some I'm not convinced I know the answer to...perhaps someone can help:
- Can I adjust the number of rows/columns on Sense screens? I'd been using HyperDroid CM7 on my HD2 for a while, and seeing, like, 4 icons on the entire Sensation screen is corny/cartoony. I'd like to get more stuff squashed onto each screen.
- Can I add/remove Sense home screens? There are 7. I'd like to change that.
- Can I change or add more buttons to bottom or home screen? I see, from left to right, the apps, phone, and personalize buttons. I'd love to dump the personalize button, shrink the phone button, and add several more.
- I'm pretty sure many of the things I want to do are not possible with just an out of the box T-Mo Sensation and HTC Sense...so, are there apps that lets me do any of these things?
- Can I adjust when backlight goes off? I seem to be able to only adjust the amount of time the entire screen stays on.
- Auto-brightness is wacky. I'll just be sitting somewhere, in what seems like perfectly level/stable lighting conditions, and the screen just arbitrarily dims and brightens every few seconds.
- How do I get rid of that irritating page-by-page scrolling of apps list? I'd like one long, smooth-scrolling list. And is there a way to have a favorite apps list, other than placing them on the home screens?
- How do I turn off the dial/key press sounds when I'm dialing a phone number?
- I get a lot of static when I use my BT headset with the T-Mobile silicone case on the phone. If I take the phone out of the case, the call is much clearer. Any way to otherwise compensate (so I don't have to take the case off all the time)?
Thanks.
The quick answer to every question right now is no. The slightly longer answer is yes, but you will need to install a custom launcher: Launcher Pro or ADW come to mind first. They won't get rid of Sense and will actually use up more memory, but what you want will be accomplished. The really long answer is no, but soon. Most of what you want to change are things built into the HTC Rom. S-Off is supposedly coming soon. The great devs of the forum are hard at work. Once they do that, the bootloader will be unlocked, the cooks will do what they do, and we will begin to see custom Roms. Then you will have your removed bloatware, customizable anything, different launchers, stock-Sense lite-Sense full-CM7-MIUI-or anything else you can think of Roms.
The day is coming. We will have a true superphone any day now.
Best wishes.

for the backlight off thing go to settings->brightness and uncheck the box next to automatic brightness and adjust the slider to your liking
To take off the sound while dialing go to settings->sound and uncheck the box that says Audible touch tones
hope it helps
Thanks for the sound setting info. I know about the automatic brightness setting. Turning off doesn't fix the fact that automatic brightness doesn't seem to work.
Any idea how to, when using the Mail application, to move to Next or Previous messages? No swiping motion I'm trying is working, and the best I can find is Settings and then the arrow keys. It'd be much easier if there was a button or swipe right on the message screen itself.

Actually, I believe the internal portion of the antenna is different too. The Tmo Sensation have 4 internal contacts areas for antenna and the international unlock one has 3. People were claiming that to be the problem with the death grip reception issue. Idk if the newer unlocked versions have changed yet. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have moved across from the HD2 also and i find it irritating that i cant set both backlight off and power off as separate items.
Had the HD2 set that the backlight went off quite quickly to save juice, but it was set to not power down for one minute after that so just a quick screen press would bring it back up.
the Sensation powers down exactly 8 seconds after the screen dims and there is no setting to change that period !!

I don't have to reboot too often, but when I do, I usually get a "Set current time" pop-up message stating "Unable to detect your current time zone. Tab below to select a city." Then is has a menu with various time zones in it. I select Eastern Time, and click Done. But why does this keep coming up?
All the threads I see here and elsewhere on the internet (yes, I cheat on XDA) seem to assume the network is not providing the time information, so we need to uncheck the automatic time update setting. But why should I have to uncheck this? And how will that impact me when I go to another time zone?
Thanks.

you can somehow:
i used the "more icons widget" it lets you add 4 icons in a place of usually one.
So the 3x1 icons would consist of 11 small icons (+ 1 settings button) available from 1x2 to 1x4 and inverse. Works great on this screen
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.reeyees.moreiconswidget
it costs a bit, but is worth it!
Hey bro i get this app from the market Honeybar it work great with root access.
I work with touchwiz work 100%.
Program tested MX Video Player,Dolphin Browser HD.
It works well and I suggest using Button Savior in conjunction. Barely seen my taskbar in a week
Works pretty well, main problems I have with it are accidentally re-enabling the taskbar in games (tapping near the bottom), and also accidentally hiding it when trying to hit the 'menu' button in portrait mode. They're too close together so it's hard to avoid hitting it.
I asked the author about the possibility of other trigger locations, or gestures, and he responded but didn't sound like he planned to do anything soon.
I installed HB myself, and although it is nice in some ways to get the taskbar (I use that reference with tongue'in'cheeck) out of the way, there are too many apps I have that place "menu" in the location of the hidden button even when I set it to shift left. Many apps I have to rotate to landscape to get to the apps settings menu hidden behind the shift-left positioning for HB. It's just not a sound UI choice.
The option to just leave the taskbar hidden and use Button Savior is better, but it's like using one hack to make another one work halfway correctly in its effects. HB needs more development and it doesn't look like it's going to happen as of now.

Thanks very much for your info. Yeah... this Button Savior is a real true name in case of the HoneyBar's gone somewhere..
Problem I see with using Button Savior all the time is that you do lose the notifications.. and then it's still easy to accidentally bring back the real bar when playing games etc. Oh well.

I don't know about the games... the notification is hiding except the sound but the real trouble is when the call is coming.... you have to activate the task bar to bring back the panel "Answer or Denied" (!!!)

I did indeed get quite angry at the loss of notifications but I was able to (sort of) get around that by changing the screen density to 171 using Blade Buddy. This set me back to a 2.x launcher.
It doesn't really work 100% however as browser, Gmail, Google Talk will constantly crash. I was able to work around the browser by just getting another browser and Gmail by uninstalling the Honeycomb version of Gmail and installing the Gingerbread version. I didn't care enough to do anything more than uninstall Google Talk.
On the positive side I no longer have to deal with the taskbar. Ever.

Does the Gingerbread version have the Gingerbread UI? i.e. without the multi-paned stuff? I tried loading a Gingerbread version a while back but it didn't work (just crashed). I prefer Gingerbread style -- more room for the content rather than lists of labels.

Yes this is exactly my only issue with honeybar. it would be nice if we could choose the right side as the "offset". Even in portrait I have space just to the right of center that would allow access to honeybar on/off and not interfere with the menu on a lot of apps.
There's a much better way to do this. Using tasker, I have a profile set up that auto hides the toolbar for certain apps and then restores it automatically when I switch away from them.
Follow the instructions in this thread:

Yes but how do you switch away from them?
That is actually what I am trying to figure out how to do. I am trying to set it up when in specific apps it takes away the task bar but also only within these apps after something... (haven't really figured that out yet) happens it will bring it back for an exit. In a perfect world I would love to be able to press both volume buttons to close an app. Which in this case would be perfect but tasker can't do that...
I'm using task switcher pro. It lets you map a gesture to the back button or home button.

what might be cool is to "shake" device to bring back the bar.
you guy also can use AutomateIt... kind of like tasker but to me it more friendly user...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123423
and the pro version is cheaper too...
Using tasker I did manage to make the bar go away by shaking. Instead of setting programs to do it make it toggle the bar by using a shake. I don't have it in front of me to do step by step but if someone wants me to I can put it up.
I would most certainly love to see that "How too" Zadeis.
Thanks.

OK the link smaug408 put up leads to a guide on how to set up a task that when an App starts it will remove the bar at the bottom. The thing is though you no longer have a back button and get out of the app unless it has a dedicated exit button.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301857
I take no credit for the premade files for tasker. The thanks goes to the creator Quietthinker through that link.
-First Open the link and download the attached StatusBarToggle.zip and place the files into /sdcard/Tasker/tasks (in this case you will only need the StatusBarToggle.tsk.xml, the StatusBar_Hide.tsk.xml, and the StatusBar_Show.tsk.xml files)
-Second open tasker and go to the "tasks tab" and tap and hold the Tasks Tab at the top. An options window will come up but select Import and import all of them into tasker
-Third go to the profiles tab and tap the Green plus at the left and give it a name. ShakeToToggle can work but you can name it whatever you like.
A context window will popup and you will select Event and then the Sensor Category and finally select the Shake Event.
You can mess around with the setting for the shake gesture now or tweak it in to your liking after everything is set up up to you.
-Forth once you have the setting you like press the green check mark, select the StatusBarToggle task and you are done. Now when you shake your tablet side to side it will make the status bar go away.
Now I just happened to figure out that you can shake instead of using an app for the context. I take little credit for how this works.
This method requires Super User Permissions. It will ask on the first toggle of the bar if you allow it to remember it afterward, if not it will ask each time.
Great app. Works perfectly
Bought this watch today, off Craigslist for $40 in new condition with all original accessories, the white band had actually never even been opened.
Everything seems to work great except double-tapping the screen doesn't turn the watch on. I do have the watch set to that option (First choice, the digital watch-face with the double-tap turn on) and after choosing said watchface, it works fine for a while - but I try again 10 minutes later and it doesn't work. Any idea what might be causing this?
Also, I am loving every feature of the watch except there's one thing - I'm wondering if there's any app or other way to make it so I can hit a button on the watch and have it open S-Voice or Google Now automatically? I think it'd be cool to, as I'm going to bed, be able to hit a button, say "Wake me up at 7" and have it do so (Yes, I know the phone would have to be near by to hear the voice command as the watch has no microphone)
Try double-tapping the bottom left corner - it's more sensitive there. But this "Bluetooth deep sleep" problem, as it is called, is common.
You can also try turning the watch off (long button press) and on again to wake up its Bluetooth.
You can use two finger to hit it. The most sensitive time is when the mn2 turn to the Clock screen and turn off the screen.
The double tap feature only works when your last screen is the clock(either by using two fingers until you go back to the clock screen). You could also doubletap the band instead, since it seems like its the accelerometer that's sensing the "taps"
You can use AppWidget launch apps that use widget, not sure if s voice or Google Now use widget shortcuts, but this should give you an idea.

Loving my Gear S3 Frontier but still a bit confused about using it on occassions! Can anyone tell me is there a simple way to:
1. Keep an app you are currently using on the display?
For example, while walk around the supermarket, I was using the excellent "My Notes in Gear" to work through a shopping list I'd created previously. Problem was that when the watch display turned off if I raised my wrist up to look at the screen it frequently had reverted to the watch display. Only way i could get it back to my shopping list was to select the apps view and tap on the "My Notes in Gear" app again. Surely I must be doing something wrong and there's an easier way to resume the view of an app you are currently using?
2. Easily toggle between watchface (time) display and current other app in use?
Say I'm tracking a hike in S Health but I want to check the current time. Is there an easy way to toggle from S-Health to the watchface, and then quickly switch back to S-Health tracking again?
Having had the watch a couple of weeks now I'm sure I should have a handle on these things by now, so maybe I'm just being dumb - or maybe these things are not as easy to do as they should be?!
Really, NOBODY has a solution to this??!!

Thanks for the tip. OK, maybe it's not rocket science but to me it seems very strange that there's is not a standard quick way to click back to a current open app. After all, on your mobile phone it's very easy.
And is there any easy/quick way to toggle between watchface (time) display and current other app in use, as when I just want to quickly check the time? Yes, I realise now I can optionally set my double-tap on the home button to view current app, but what if you prefer to set that to normally open another app like S-Health or S-Voice? Sorry, but I really think this is an aspect of typical use of a smartwatch that the designers have not fully thought through. Surely the ability to easily switch between your watchface and another app you are running should be a standard and quick operation?!
I'm having the same issue. And yes, I've set the home button to revert to my previous apps. I'd prefer, however, to raise my wrist and have the app that I was currently using still be there. For example, whenever I'm out on a run and I'm listening to music, I have to double press the home button, and select the application in order to begin toggling to the next sound track. Similar situation happens when I'm using the notes app. Does anyone know of a way to "lock" the current app so that it doesn't go away when I put my hand down?
Worked in the previous Gear 1&2&S. There are a setting for movement activation : Last screen or Clock. Very usefull, do not know why Samsung removed this setting in the Gear S2/S3 ???
It does this on Galaxy Gear too.
It makes much more sense the app you're using is just there, no need to press any button :-/
Thanks for the double tap tip.
