[Q] Android Live Wallpapers on Windows 7 - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I would like to know... is there any way to get a LIVE (ie: animated) Android wallpaper to run as the desktop background "picture" of a Windows 7 laptop?
I'm talking about the actual live wallpaper form the apk, and not a crappy gif.
If it won't loose its HD status, I don't mind if it's html or flash.
I'm thinking about the new ICS wallpaper... the one with the different colors and particles floating around. I have it running on my Desire HD, but I'd like to have it on my laptop too!
I Googled enough to find out that no one has a clear cut answer for this, and i thought: if the xda developers can't do it, who can?!
I'm posting this in Q&A because it's a question, not a request.
It's about Windows 7 (no win7 sections in the forum) but it also requires the devs to have knowledge about android wallpapers and how they work.
I've attached the apk of the ICS background in question.

no you cant these wallpapers are made only for android phones. You can search anyway in google for windoes 7 animated wallpapers or gif pictures

You can get a program called Windows Dreamscene for windows 7. Then you will have to search yourself for an ics lwp.
Here is the link to Dreamscene.
http://www.dreamscene.org/

i upp this topic because i'm looking for answer of this question (request) too

I tried Dreamscene, and though the idea behind it is great, its execution is less than satisfactory.
The "movie" loop stops looping if you stand-by your laptop (and let's face it, most people rarely "shut down" their laptops anymore, except maybe if they need to take it outside of their homes), the Dreamscenes available online free of charge are very few, and the good ones are even fewer.
All of that, I'm still find with. What I don't like, is the fact that I can't uninstall dreamscene from my laptop! It got integrated into the system, and doesn't have an "uninstall" button, and installnig it messed with the registry enough, and I'm not going to risk messing with it again.
aaanyway... I hope somebody finds a way to make the android LWP's show on our windows backgrounds in full HD.

Android vs Windows Mobile - Functionality

Just a quick question!
How do you think Android will stack up to Windows Mobile when it comes to functionality? Android will certainly look better and be much more finger friendly, etc, but will it be closer to the limits of the iPhone when it comes to copy paste (Android has copy paste, but dont know if it works everywhere), email, contacts, and such? Will Windows Mobile fans be dissapointed or feel crippled when using Android?
Ive played around with the Android SDK a bit, but i havent really gotten a definite feeling if the functionality suits my needs
Cheers!
Yes I am also looking for some forum information on this matter. I would like to know the opinion of anyone who has had a hands on experience with both OS's. Found a nice article in endgadget but I like user opinions better.
I definetly want to know too!
Here is what I want to know for the Droid...
Can you use it as wifi router?
Does it do push hotmail instantly?
Is there logmein support?
Does it work with orb?
i'm moving to Android when Acer A1 liquid is out, then Sony X10a.
Android got free gps navigation with realtime traffic! nice!

1. Yes
2. No, not that I'm aware of anyway, but you can forward Hotmail email to your Google Account to receive it instantly.
3. Yes
4. Yes
Anything else anyone else wants to know then feel free to post here and I'll do my best to answer it in a reasonable time.
I swapped my Touch Diamond for my G1 and I can do everything that I could do on my windows mobile (although I didn't have WinMo for long)
I've had all of the mobile OS's and always come back to windows mobile. Android is approaching windows mobile when you think of the ability to flash other OS versions and wide range of applications on an open system. But windows mobile gives me true multitasking ability like a desktop computer, and windows mobile can be edited and programmed to be something else. Through haret windows mobile phones can run haret and even android.

Yes I'm heading this way too. Android has been quite a disappointment to me. Initially I was very happy with my new Milestone that replaced an HTC Touch Pro running WM6.1. The performance difference was staggering, there really is no comparison between them. However I just find more and more things missing from Android/Milestone note this list is just a braindump, some of it's in Android, some of it's the packaging for the Milestone, I'm guessing you can tell the difference.
No Outlook Integration, I really think that should have been there out of the box, there are third party apps that i've used with varying degrees of success.
Restricted Video viewing. I used to use coreplayer to view just about anything on WM without any conversions. Now through restricted information on APIs needed to port CorePlayer to ANdroid I'm stuck with a lengthy conversion process when I want to put video on the phone.
No contact lookup while dialing from the keypad, I really miss that.
No note taking, or word editing apps built in.
Can't save attachments in email - wtf!! this is basic functionality, everytime I want to view a word file attached to an email I have to wait while it downloads form my mail server.
Can't foreward some attachment types - crazy crazy
Can't edit original text in replies or forwards - this is basic functionality missing
Cut and paste is awful - ranging from not implemented, to badly implemented depending on where you try to use it.
Can't switch an sd card without rebooting - I don't know if this is milestone specific but you actually can't remove the sd card without removing the battery.
Tethering, I'm using PDANet, I don't think there is a WMWifiRouter equivalent without rooting the phone? So I am using PDANets blueTooth Dun service, much inferior to WMWifiRouters Personal Area Network implementation.
Can't charge from my exisiting Solar charger (Power Monkey Explorer), thats a pain in the ass, not sure why it doesn't work.
Facebook Contact integration, it claims to have it but it just doesnt work
Logmein doesnt work for me, nor do citrix support it for gotomypc
I'll add more as and when.

can you explain what you mean with real multitasking? what miss you on android?
Hi guys new to the forum and my first post
So I have both OS I just got a HTC HD2 Winmo 6.5 and a HTC g1 Android
To me the Android is a lot lot easyer to use then Winmo. And the Markit place is the best I have used. But the HD2 looks nice the layout is top notch but when I go behind the HTC front skine and in to the Winmo I get lost and it all so looks like my winmo PDA witch I dont like.
As you can tell im not realy in to phones that much so dont know the correct names for the stuff im talking about lol.
If I could have Android under the Htc HD2 skin I would be happy

Help Need Powerpoint player not viewer

Hi all, I'm new to the android tablet. I have had an ipad up until 3 weeks ago when my wife had hers stolen so now she has mine and im trying to see how android works out.
Anywayi teach a class once a week and i down load powerpoint presentations for my class. On the Ipad i just run them in keynotes and al the animations and everythng just work fine. I have tried all the office programs i can find and none of them play the powerpoints. They let you vew the slides but dont really run the presentations. Some of them dont even show the slidesin the right colors and the textis not even viewable.
Does any one have any ideas?
I can take the same file and it works great even after conversion on the ipad. I really want this to work or i will end up going back to apple and i would rather not.
Well, they all play the powerpoint. You can start by telling me which one you want to use. I'll tell you how to play it.
I highly recommend office suit pro.
Polaris, the one that comes with it for free, also plays it quite well.
How do I know this? I've done a few presentations with the office apps.
That said, it is my experience that ipad users are completely lost when they try to use android tablets. It's not worth the headache. You should have stuck with the ipad. Android is designed more for flexibility and having options. Instead of having 1 button to do something, you now have 10 buttons. If you're not used to having options, it really is a pain in the butt.
By the way, I've bought all the office apps available.
Quickoffice
Doc2Go
Freethink... or thinkfree (I keep forgetting the order)
Office suite pro
Between these, I can pretty much do everything I need to do. Have even made a few presentations using the TF+dock.
quicks office is great. but i kinda feel that polaris works fine by itself no need to buy any other office apps
ok I'm not lost using the Android. I am a software engineer I have been building and programing computers for 25 years. The Ipad was my first apple product sence my Apple 2e in the early 80's. I have rooted my android phones and put new roms on them and have rooted and over clocked my transformer so I think I'm qualified to use it.
I know the office apps out there will play powerpoint presentations but they play them as slide shows and do not play the animations. If a slide has multiple pictures on it that come and go they just stack them all in right away and show the last one.
Here is a link to the download
http://www.sugardoodle.net/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2205&Itemid=200015
You will find the download at number 3 on that page. Try it on your PC to see how it should look and then let me know if you can get it do look the same on your tablet. I would be very happy if you can..
They dow have a PDF version of it on there too but so far when I try the PDF version it is super laggy and hard to work with. Also they do not always have the pdf version.
Like I said these run perfect on my ipad but I would rather use my TF.
*****EDIT
I forgot, make sure you look at it on a PC because the android viewer like the mess up the colors and fonts to and make them hard to read.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Brandon
I love that you refer to it as the android
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Do you need adobe flash installed to view the animations? Just a guess....
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I know i keep calling it the android because that is what my wife has been calling it.
I do have flash 11 installed so that is not the answer either.
Brandon
Hahaha. Anyone remember when Bush kept calling it "the google"?
You didn't even tell us what kind of animation. Can you post a sample ppt or pptx?
i posted a link to the down load so you can try it out. Maybe if you read my post instead of trying to chastise me you would have seen the link.
The animations are things like words coming in and going away or pictures changing.
I like the fact that i ask a question for help and inplace of helpful answer i get put down because i had an ipad and you assume i do not know anything and i also get compared to Bush because i called it the android.
Thanks for not being helpful

Look, I didn't assume you didn't know anything. My mentor, a leading scientist in concrete engineering, regularly asks me for help with his computing needs. Not knowing how to operate a device says nothing about a person's abilities.
That's why I suggested you stick with the ipad. It's a universal device.
At this point in time, android tablet platform is very much like the early days of linux OS. Back then, there wer3 kinds of people who used linux: (1) the programmers and developers who created and maintained the various linux distros, (2) the modders and enthusiasts who liked to push some boundaries, and (3) the people who went into it thinking they could use it as a windows replacement and ended up going bald by pulling their hair out.
I'm a minimalist. My powerpoint slides almost never contain animations. I think it's just a distraction.
Anyway, I'll take a look at your file there and tell you what I find out. Since I have all the office apps for android, so I'll it with all of them.
Added by edit.
Hang on, aren't you honored to be compared to the president of the United States of America? To quote tea party members, why do you hate this country? LOL

I tried it on both Docs to Go and Polaris, but neither of them showed the animations. To be honest, I don't believe animations should be used in presentations, but that aside I have no idea what program to use then.
Well, my thought is to convert it to flash.
I currently do not have access to my TF. Someone is using it hooked up to the TV to watch movies.
Brieflet can convert powerpoint files, I don't know if it keeps the animation, but it's worth trying, I guess.
Ok... I've just bought it, I'll tell you soon how it deals with ppt.
Thanks for testing it. I will be waiting for your report.
I have also emailed one of the office app developers to see if they can do what im looking for as their app is $20 with no free trail on the app store.
Ok I've just tested with brieflet the powerpoint presentation you mentioned earlier : no animations. You can only have animation between two successive slides, configurable inside brieflet parameters.
If you want to keep your animation, you have to create two different slides when you just have to create one with ppt : for instance the first slide
with no image, and the second slide, same as the first slide plus your image. Since brieflet can fade between two slides following each other, it would work.
I tried also your ppt with quickoffice pro hd (not the latest version though, but the 4.5.15), and same story, no animation.
Hope it helps.
Having the same problem here
bro ...
i get your point 100 % because right now i'm facing the same problem like yours and next week i have already do my presentation and it killing me softly that all the animation, hyperlink than i edit not even work either in : Doctogo, Polaris and all the stupid program.
really need BIG ADVICE for this case.
P.S : if you already solve your problem, please let me know.
Regards,

Something to keep in mind, Microsoft and Apple worked together to bring MS Office to Mac, and most likely iPad/iPhone/iPod. I Microsoft and Apple hate Android and have not shared any of the MS Office secrets therefore every office app for Android has had to reverse engineer the formats and that is not easy. This is why none of them produce 100% compatible results. If you create a new document in a native Android office app I am confident it will do so you ask it to, but to expect it to perfectly replicate a closed source suite's results is inane. Perhaps one day big businesses will all play nicely with each other, but not today.

[Q] Does windows 8 have these apps?

I have Windows 8 developer preview on my laptop, but for some reason it seems I am not getting all the apps on the market place. Does the developer preview have a different store than the real Windows 8 on the Surface?
Since I am thinking about getting the Surface when my laptop dies, it had a clicking episode once now, can anyone tell me if these apps are there. As I am thinking about replacing my laptop with an RT.
-Is there a bible app, where I can fully read the whole bible? Without connecting to the internet?
-Windows movie maker
-paint
-audio editor
-sound recorder
-youtube downloader
-truecrypt
-QQ (a Chinese messenger)
-alarm clock
Or is there a place online I can check so I don't have to ask people to check for me?
I couldn't find the Q&A forum for the Surface. If this is in the wrong place, I apologize and feel free to move.
P.S. Is it just me, or does the whole forum feel more tablet friendly? Nice!
Yes you get most of the ones you want.
I don't believe you'll find Windows Movie Maker - I think the more media heavy stuff is reserved for the Pro version, but the rest looks doable. I do have a Surface RT but can't check one by one at the moment.
I was looking for the ability to browse the Windows Store from a PC as well, but I haven't found a URL yet. Hoping they come out with one soon like the play store has.

You can for the windows phone marketplace so I don't think it will be long.
As for Bible apps would it not be easier to get the bible from kindle then you can have it across all devices and it will bookmark itself for you. Just a thought.

Why would you even consider committing such a henious crime against such a beautiful device.. there has been dozens upon dozens of web posts, forum threads and websites asking this question, which is the same reason you cannot put Android or WP8 onto an Apple. IOS and WP8 are closed and protected platforms
You cannot put Android or any of its components (Launchers and such Android excrement) on to a Windows phone.
Buy an Android phone and get the WP8 Launcher from the Play Store.. the New HTC M8s look nice, naff camera, but good phone..
Hope that helps
yes - sorta...
Yes, you can get alternate launchers, sorta.
For many years I used Android and had many alternate launchers to used depending on my mood, place, work, battery life, etc. Now on my 1020 I have a couple of Android style launchers, iPhone launchers, and a Blackberry launcher. All work fine and allow my to do most basic taskes.
Now for the "sorta..." part: As mentioned earlier, WP8 is a closed platform. These other launchers are actually just apps running on top of WP8, and are not actually replacing the tiles. Functionality is limited and basic. They all offer a chance to pay for an upgrade for more functionality, but I don't yet know what functionality they will add. Thankfully, unlike Google, Microsoft DOES accept my Paypal account so I will be finding out, but just haven't done so yet. I assume I will have access in the app drawer to all the apps installed on my Windows Phone, but I doubt I will be able to add new "shortcuts" to the "homescreen" or change the given wallpaper. But who knows, like I said, I will try it & get back to you.
Not sure how to correctly add a link to the WP store or anything, but just search for Android, iPhone, or Blackberry and you should find something. Also, something else to keep in mind here is that 8.1 will be out soon. Having played around with a Lumia 930 with 8.1 for about a month now I can say it will offer more options to customize your homescreen tiles, and it's pretty cool. It would be nice is they offered a choice of homescreen configurations maybe, one for work and one for home. But first and much more importantly they need to work on multiple Skype logins for work and home, as it is now I am stuck with my "friend" skype on my phone and need to carry around a second phone for my work Skype.
I know it's not exactly what you were looking for but I hope it at least helps a little. Have a great day!

[Q] Android to Windows: apps question

Recently there has been a few teasers regarding Windows 10 for PC, Tablet, and Phones. Pretty soon the Galaxy S6 will be coming out and since I'm already a Samsung customer, my initial thought is to go with that... But when I think about windows 10 and its possibilities, it makes me reconsider. So I have some questions. Please understand that I know Windows 10 is vague so far, but hopefully some of my questions can be answered based on existing windows phones/tablet
One of the strongest reasons I'm considering Windows 10 OS (PC, Phone, and Tablet) is full immersion and connectivity. Currently Im able to use my Samsung Tablet and phone to completely control my computer, transfer files and connect in other ways. Since my computer doubles as my entertainment center, this is necessary.
Question 1.) It sounds like if you get a Windows 10 Tablet you'll be able to use the Tablet as a secondary controller and screen for XBox One. Does anyone know if this is true or not? Is the feature also expected to be part of Windows 10 Phones?
Question 2.) Up until now Ive avoided Windows 8(.1) and iOS like the plague... so I'm only familiar with Android. Android has allowed customization to the screen layout with app shortcuts and widgets. They apps and widget are how I control my computer like I was talking about earlier. That said, does anyone know how many apps are cross platform? and I just mean a general ballpark idea based on experience, like 60% or 85% or something. Is there a way to find out if a particular app is available on windows?
Question 3.) For now, I'm sure most answers to this next question will be speculation, but does anyone know if the screen customization for windows 10 phones will be as it is for current windows 8(.1) phones? Will they allow shortcuts and widgets instead of rubix cube tiles?
