[Q] TTS App on Kindle Fire - Kindle Fire Themes and Apps

The TTS App is on the Kindle Fire, if you do a search on the net it says it's not supported. Why is the app there? Can anyone firgure out how to get this to work. It would be great to be able to have books read.

Text to Speech (Pico TTS) is installed under all applications but there is no way or setting to enable it, come on there has to be someone that can figure this out.

No mic?
I didn't think the fire had a mic.

You don't need a mic to do text to speech, just text from like say a book so it could be read to you via the speakers.

I can confirm that tts does in fact work. To test I loaded quickoffice pro and typed in a word then had it speak it back to me. Unless quick office uses its own tts speach engine I can only assume it is using the android tts engine.

You need an app that supports tts.
The kindle reader app that comes with the kindle fire or is found on android market doesn't support tts.
There are a couple book readers that support tts on android market but they're not free, non of which that can read kindle books,MoonReader and EzPDF for example.
If you don't like the sound of the default voice than you can change it by following my guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378352

If you plug in a headphone with mic (like the one with cellphones) with 4 connector jack, mic can be used on fire.

BlueSTAR 2010 Module (Bluetooth OnStar Replacement)

Alright. Here's my new project, integrating CoStar Technologies' BlueSTAR 2010 module into my 2008 Pontiac G8 GT to work with my Nexus One.
http://www.costartech.com/pb/products/bluestar.html
I was going to wait for the car dock but what could be better than pushing a button on my steering wheel/rear view mirror and using the voice search function of the Nexus One? Not sure if I'll get system wide voice search, I kind of expect it to only work with the voice dialing functions of the phone but either way I'm really looking forward to it. From my understanding the A2DP streaming isn't fully functional yet but that will be really sweet once they get that part implemented. I'll keep everyone updated with how it goes and also provide some pics and videos. These devices are supposed to work in all 2002 & up GM vehicles that have OnStar.
I am getting ready to order one too for my G8, gonna use it with the G2.
From what I see on their twitter posting, they are beta testing writing the caller ID to the DIC, so might get that soon as an update.
Hope it works as well as advertised.
Any updates on these projects? Interested for my Impala
I gilot mine and installed it. Only works with built in voice dialer from HTC. Looks like the voice search app does not publish itself as Bluetooth.
The device works great but the voice dialer can be finicky.
Have not found a solution yet, but can tell you Vlingo does not work well through bluetooth.

good luck...............
They released an update. It now has caller ID on the DIC.
Now if only the voice dialer worked better on the G2

Works decently in my g8, recently switched to an evo and still works great with cm7, a2dp soon
I am pretty sure the problem is the phone. The G2 uses HTC's default voice dialer instead of Google's voice control, and it is just not as accurate.
Will the audio work through the bluetooth to the stereo to listen to music?
No..
the Onstar integration is calling only.. the module has a 1/8" jack thatallow you to plug into an aux port.
Given that there is no bluetooth stereo streaming that remotely sounds as good as a wire, its better to connect the phone w a cable..

[Q] App idea: Soundhound integration

Hi,
Casio's new GShock-GBA400 model watch is able to record music sample and query it from Soundhound app on the phone. Then it returns the result from app on the watch's LCS screen as song title.
The watch is communicating with the Android phone through bluetooth.
I believe this could be achieveable with our beloved Gear 2.
Any developer who could do this ? I'd gladly pay for such app.
any ideas?
is it possible ?
with the soundhound widget and Wearable Widgets app, I was able to do this. Of course it does not use the mic on Gear, instead uses the mic of the phone. But better than nothing.
I use AppLauncher and then added Shazam to the list. In Shazam, there's an option to enable the app to listen right after its been opened. Works great
A new app got posted today called Gearam Music ID - works great and seems to use the watch mic instead of opening an app on the phone. Bonus is you can immediately play to Google Music if you subscribe.

yes, I saw and tried that. Good one.
But personally I would prefer Soundhound. Because Gearam has a smaller DB (imho) , its recognition is not that well.

Gearam uses Gracenote DB.
I used to have Gearam Music ID installed on my watch, but I just bought a new phone and had do a factory reset on the watch when pairing them up. I want to reinstall Gearam but I can't find it in the store anymore! Does anybody have an apk for it?

[Help] - An app that tracks the trackers on Android

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/28/business/media/alphonso-app-tracking.html
Is there an (open-source) app that notifies its users if the camera/microphone/Bluetooth are in use and which apps are using them?
scenarios:
Google Play is currently streaming music over Bluetooth. I want to know that Google Play is using Bluetooth right now.
I'm playing a game right now and it has enabled my microphone. I want to be aware of that.
A website opened in one of the Firefox tabs is currently using my camera (front/rear), I want to be aware of that.
And so on. You get the concept.
Would love to have an app that keeps track of the trackers. If Tasker can do it, even better.

Question Google's Live Transcription app shows support for Watch 4, but no audio

Long throw, but does anyone happen to be using the free Google app for Live Transcription in many languages. Watches like the 4 are found and activated by the app, but the app doesn't hear anything from the watch mic. However, another additional function of the app, e.g. the display of a smoke alarm tone, works. Google support doesn't have a solution either, refer to Samsung. Also looked for a companion app for WearOS, but couldn't find it. The app works perfectly with the mobile microphone. It would be cool if I had any speech or interview transcribed on my cell phone via this app using the watch microphone, and could forward it or even have it translated.
