Upgrading from froyo/trigger, do I need to flash kc1/kd1 for gb rom - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I got sgs4g rooted and installed trigger rom on it and upgraded to bali kernel. I would like to upgrade to gingerbread rom stock that samsung released 2.3.5 and also try a custom gb rom after. Ive been reading a lot and my only question is all posts here say from froyo use one of the two gb roms with bootloaders, to flash gingerbread, then flash back to kc1 or kd1 so I can run cwm and flash gingerbread again. then im set. The samsung release does not state from froyo to do anything else.but flash gingerbread from odin and yer done. So would just odining the gb rom from samfirmware.com just be it? Or would I need to flash ones with boot loaders firat and back to kd1? Or is back to kd1 just for flashing gb rom from cwm which I currently have on cwm. I just want to know if.i should do the bootloader flashing of kc1/kd1 from trigger froyo rooted cwm to get to gingerbread stock or gb rom like octaine or audiophile. Please anyone ? Ive read everything and know the procedure just wondering about if flashong bootloaders... How ppl with straight stock w/o rooy would know to do extra steps or not. Thanks

You're confusing yourself and me. Go the the development section & look for The GB Starter guide by fbis251. Sure, painless, fast way to get on gingerbread.

If u get a loop..which happened to me hit three button recovery and factory reset...u should be good, then kj1 kernel from drhonk to root...if u wish.

I will do the kj1 kernel. I did update through keis. Phone calls have no sound unless I press speaker twice, anyone ?

I getting confused by your post. But from what I'm getting, I think you want to know how to downgrade so you can upgrade to KJ6 on Kies. Odin or CWN down to KB5 or KD1 then connect to Kies. Downgrading to KD1 didn't work for me, but downgrading to KB5 did.
Then use SOC 2.2 to root your phone, will hang and fail the first time but will root the second time. As for CWN, you can use dr. hong KJ1 custom kernel but that will downgrade your kernel down to KJ1 from KJ6. If you want KJ6 kernel with CWN, wait for dr. honk.

Looking to downgrade from 2.3.3 ROM to stock 2.2

I upgraded to the new ROM that was gingerbread for the SGS4G. I don't like it all that much and I know I need to Odin but what files do I need?

Read this post. helped me a bunch when I soft bricked my phone using CWM.

I used this ROM instead of the one in the above post. It's the stock Froyo KD1 build with deodex and root

[Q] ICBINB by ACID

I was looking around the Forum and I found Team ACID's ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15419687#post15419687
and I wanted to try that out for my Galaxy S 4G.
Right now I flashed my phone today to KC1 Stock+Root Froyo.
And before I do anything. Could someone tell me what Bali rom is? That's what it says that's included in the rom. Bali 3.1.
If I do flash it, if I get tired of it, will I be able to reflash back to the KC1 Stock+Root Froyo?
You should be able to flash back via odin...
I'm pretty sure it's 3.1 but you can flash whatever version you want
**Edit... Just read post, it has 3.3

You can always flash back to stock with ODIN if you don't like a ROM.
Bali is not the ROM, it's the Kernel. If the ROM is like a particular model car, the kernel is like the engine. Some car models have more than one engine you can get in them.
ROMs can have different kernels powering them (but they look the same otherwise).
hmmmm. I like your insight
I like to try and make analogies like that, so they are easy to understand

[Q] Samsung Infuse

I just got my new phone and i am ready to install custom roms. I am coming from a Captivate. I've been read and searching about how to install roms. After reading and search i have a few questions.
I am currently at stock UCKH1 2.2.1 FROYO. I would like to update to Gingerbread. it seems as there is some Gingerbread ROMS, but no Gingerbread bootloaders? Do i need Gingerbread bootloaders to intall the custom roms in the Samsung Infuse Dev section?
I've read that some Gingerbread roms are not root able, but then read that they are? After looking at some of the ROMS some state that they are rooted.
I've read that i will lose CWM after flashing Gingerbread as well, how would i get CWM back after installing MitRa Rom?
Maybe i am totally confused i do have a simple mind, but if some one has a little time can you explain these issues to me please.
Thanks,
TA

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331381 - this will give you stock GB and then kernel for CWM to flash your choice ROM

I just came from a captivate. The infuse is a lot easier to flash roms. If you are on stock Froyo, download any gingerbread leak and flash it using odin. Download entropys kernel and flash it with odin. Entropys kernel has cwm. Its a little different from the captivate but it really don't take long to get used to.

The only kernel i found that's entropys kernel is this one.

[Q] Downgrade from gingerbread?

Good morning..
Couldn't find an exact thread, but long story short:
I'm failing at trying to root my 2.3.6 gingerbread infuse,
and from what I've read, it's just so much easier doing it on froyo.
How can I downgrade to froyo?
Thanks in advance-
here you go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112555
You can Odin to froyo...or you could Odin to a pre rooted gingerbread
Check out the super thread and just choose one of the pre rooted odins or hemidals
A pre rooted Odin/hemidal pretty much flashes/installes stock system but its already rooted for you
I suggest qksters uclb3 hemidal-thats the latest gingerbread leak

theres some custom roms that are stock but debloated ( useless apps on stocks)

[Q] need some help to tell my bootloader and basic root and CWM procedure

Hi all
I recently receive a 2nd i897, it's running fine but it's only a 2.2.1 (rooted and CWM installed already)
To get myself busy, I decide to upgrade it to 2.3
Here is some background from the setting page:
Model number: i9000
firmware version: 2.2.1
baseband version: i9000ugl2
build number: lidroid 1.9.3
And if i switch on my i897 from complete switch off state
I see "first" i9000 symbol, then i897 symbol
Because of this, i am not too sure what bootloader i am currently on.
My plan:
1.To flash this firmware from samfirmware - SGH-I897_I897UCKK4_UC_ATT (To get GB bootloader and clean 2.3.3)
2.To flash one of the GB kernels from http://www.semaphore.gr/downloads/captivate (To root and install CWM)
3. To flash my favorite GB custom rom
I wish to make sure if my plan is correct before going ahead
THX
Joe
It looks like u currently have an i9000 froyo rom and u have the i9000 froyo bootloaders.
I would suggest an upgrade to the GB 2.3.5 i897ucKK4 firmware with the Bootloaders and then flash KK4 Corn Kernel v7.0A to get the CWM Recovery that is included with that kernel (u can flash the .tar version of this kernel through Odin...use the PDA slot). Then flash ur rom of choice through the cwm. There is no need to get Root before u flash a Dev Rom.

Thx 4-2ndtwin
It looks like my little plan is align with your reply.
One more question, can i flash semaphore kernel instead of Corn kernel?
Thx
U can...But if it is not a KK4 based kernel then it will not boot ur phone.
If u try to boot up it will more than likely bootloop. U can use the 3 button combo to get into its recovery though. And then flash ur rom from there.
I would say, go with Corn Kernel.

hi guys
things didn't go too well.
30 mins ago, I just flashed UCKK4
from this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357848)
Odin reported no errors, but now i have bootloop, I see at&t bootscreen
then a "3g" flying animation with white background.
Can someone guide me from here?
1. I think i need the proper way to get in recovery again
2. or to boot into download mode
Thx
Joe
don't worries guys
I have it solved
Cool. Glad u got it goin.
