[Q] Providing resources for qHD phones - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys!
I can't seem to find the answer to my issue. How can I provide resources for qHD phones?
I was under the impression that Android automatically scaled the resources to fit the screen. And it did. Until I one of my users told me that the background image of my application doesn't fit properly on a qHD screen (Atrix or Sensation).
I would like to fix it, as well as continue supporting this screen, but I'm not sure how.
I checked the chart at hxxp://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html but qHD is not listed there.
I would really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction
Thanks in advance!!

Htc Snap - Windows 3.1 (1992) :(

Hi,
I just bought a Htc Snap (S521) with a windows mobile 6.5 standard edition.
I didn't know that the software is so ****ty..it looks like windows 3.1 (1992)
I want to do something to change the look...to change the icons, smooth edges, maybe a better Rom update. The icons look like they were 320X240 resolution and i put them stretched on a 1024X768 desktop. you can clearly see the pixels and i really think that it was a bad ideea to try a windows phone
Can someone pls help me with some directions? i want to make it more friendly
Is there someone here who already cooked something for this kind of smartphone?
thank u in advance,
mih
Welcome to the forums!
I do not own a Snap myself, so I have no experience with it.
However, there's a ROM development section for the Snap.
You can find it here. There you can find guides and ROMs to get your Maple updated.
Flashing another ROM will probably make your WM experience better because most of them are skinned.
Good luck!
Cheers,
EC

[Q] Replace the camera with higher resolution one

Hi. Today I'm asking you something that doen't even seem realistic for me I'm an undergrad. Electrical Enginnering student and I like playing with electronic hardware. I made some projects with CMOS cameras and Arduino. Although I know Java and a little about Android programming, I don't know the inside of the Android ROM (Kernel etc.). Now, here is my question:
Is it possible to replace my 3.15 MP camera with 8 MP camera?
Hardware can be done, but what about software, will it be too hard to change the software for 8 MP? I'm asking just because of curiosity, and hope somebody will help me It will be very exciting to me to try it
Thanks
I can't tell you how much trouble I've seen with cameras... for any rom I've used on HTC phones, it seems to be the last thing working on any development ROM. Even when they do get it working, it's much longer until the full resolution is supported.
When the HTC hero was ported to 2.1, it seemed like eons before damage got the camera working; and a lot of talented devs had already spent a lot of time working on it.
Now for the EVO, with HW003/4 changing cameras/screens in the middle of the game, it's given the cyanogen mod team one hell of job to do.
Personally, I'd stay the hell away from it. The kernel support for the camera looks like too much work...
This is not a good news Thank you so much for warning me.

[Q] Android on e-ink smartphone

Just seen an article on armdevices about Chinese e-reader maker Onyx International building a prototype smartphone based on Android with an e-ink display.
Can anyone tell me, or point me in direction of someone who knows what specific technical challenges there may be re-architecting Android to work better with e-ink display? Given e-ink's limitations on screen refresh, colour/video i'm assuming there would be certain elements of the OS that you'd want to optimise?
Thanks
A much more minimalistic UI, for starters. I saw a video and noticed the homepage was like Metro UI. But Android was not built for E-Ink and I don't see a practical use for an E-Ink phone, so what is the point of Onyx making this phone? My prediction is a complete and utter failure, maybe 100 sales

[Q] 4.7" Android 4.1 Phone "Vanern"? Could not find info.

Hello,
I am looking to buy a new android smartphone, no contract, with T-Mobile. It's for my mother; her main criterion is having a big screen. I looked around and found this:
4.7 Inch Touch Screen Dual Core Android 4.1 Phone "Vanern"
www(DOT)chinavasion(DOT)com/china/wholesale/Android_Phones/Large_Screen_Android_Phones/4.7_Inch_Touch_Screen_Dual_Core_Android_4.1_Phone_Vanern_-_3G_512MB_RAM_4GB_ROM/
(Sorry, I can't post links yet.)
I could not find much info about this phone at all except at the website where it's sold. Does this phone go by another name in the US, or is it really some foreign phone with not much info available? Would it still be possible to root and flash a custom ROM for this phone?
Also, if you have recommendations for other budget, big-screen phones, please let me know. Thank you.

[Completed] [Q] Hardware related Query - Need response from Rom developers

Hi, Well let me tell my story in brief,
I have a FHD phone with 1080*1920 display,
Auxus Nuclea N1 (a rebranded Tianhe H920+)
The display is broken and cost a cost. I have found the similar device with 1080*720 resolution
Tianhe H920, the display unit for the same cost almost INR 3k less. The slots and everything seems identical.
I just wanted to know if i replace my broken screen with the lower resolution display unit. Will it work fine ? or the Display resolution is defined in the ROM. If so is it possible to make it work by making changes in ROM.
I am noob in Development and compiling / Decompiling roms, apps, But i can make few edit to text based files in Roms.
Please guide.. I didnt knew whom to ask this question so posting a thread here.
Thanks
